Boring and repetitive

When my cat walked on my iPad and lost my place in the book, I realized that I didn't really want to try and find it again. Never got to the part about Hitler. Just one half baked scheme after another, with little variation. Character never became interesting or real to me

What a dud. 1 hour in and I'd like a refund.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The story is less than engaging. For anyone over 75, it'll have plenty of names that you'd remember from Hollywood and the movies, actors and actress' of that time period. The story sounded engaging, particularly from the piece on NPR that drove me to buy the book. However, it takes FOREVER to get moving. The narration is somewhat shy of a carnival barker, but even less entertaining.

Nothing from this author, or the narrator. Ever.

How could the performance have been better?

A more engaging story, faster pace, and less 'name dropping' of people that anyone under 70 would most likely never get. It had such promise to, I mean really who wouldn't enjoy hearing a story about swindling Hilter.

You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No.

If you are thinking you're going to get a jaw dropping narrative on swindling Hilter, forget about it. You get a long winded blovation about a 2 bit hustler, and about 10 hours of setup for very little payoff. Writer needs to learn about pacing and keeping the audience interested. I had hoped for much better.

Decent book but repeats same points

I picked up this book soon after learning of the champ's death hoping to learn more about him aside from all the usual accounts and pubic writings. While that was accomplished as there were many aspects of Ali's complicated life that I learned, I felt that the same key points were repeated. In an audiobook that made it harder to listen to and as a result my mind may have wandered off when crucial information was read. All in all I didn't enjoy listening to this one, but I give it a passing grade for fresh ideas and that the author did explore an area of Ali not well known, something not easy to find.

Not ready for production

The content is ok but it is repeated over and over and over. it's like they only had 2 hours of material but the publisher required 8 so they just recycled the same things to meet the requirement.....and they did so in an unorganized way. I mean, this was my first audiobook with the app and I had to check to make sure there wasn't a "shuffle" feature that I had selected . Hauser knows Ali, but his other book is much better

If you want all the nitty-gritty of what, when reading this Instaread summary, appears to be a very compelling novel, then you are going to want to dive straight into the original. HOWEVER if you don't have time to read all of Lisa's story about her life in the Church of Scientology and her eventual decision to leave then get this synopsis (think DETAILED review). This summary is only 30 pages long and really does a good job of condensing the 256 page original.

Growing up in Brooklyn, Leah, due to family circumstances, never feels good enough. When her mother's new boyfriend introduces the family to Scientology, Leah begins to feel some self-worth. That doesn't last long and the reality of the 'harshness' of this cult soon becomes clear. It is at the wedding of Tom Cruise in 2006 where Leah really begins to see behind the charade and sees the hypocrisy and manipulation from the leaders for what is really is. She finally leaves in 2013.

Excellent!!

A well written and moving account with narration by The Hairy Bikers themselves. Thoroughly entertaining, I just couldn't stop listening!!

The best audiobook I've ever read

Wow, what an inspiring, hilarious, emotional and uplifting book this is. I tend to listen in the car and had to pull over twice. Firstly because I shed a tear (and I'm not the sort of bloke to do this) due to heartfelt way Si and Dave read their stories. But also due to bellyaching laughter at some of the encounters they've had. They come across as two totally genuine people who love what they do and don't take it for granted. I wish them every success and am off to listen to it all over again!

Hilarious, heart breaking and totally humbling

It has been a very long time since I laughed and cried so much at a book. Coming from humble beginnings it just shows if you work hard enough you can do anything. Ive long been fans of the hairy bikers and now I've got to know them a bit more I absolutely love them. Couldn't recommend this book more, be prepared to laugh out loud but get those tissues ready.

yes I would, I find Simon is honest and trustworthy, Dave would be better if he was more natural and didn't try talking 'posh'

most of what Simon says, I don't do spoilers, but I got a lot of what he says

at first I wasn't very impressed with this one, basically Dave was trying to much to talk posh instead of just talking as Simon does. in fact I gave up after the first few chapters. I then tried again and I'm glad I did. the story gives a lot of insight into where they both come from, I enjoy watching them on the telly but always had my doubts, (I know that doesn't make sense) but now I see them both from a different perspective. Dave has had his heartaches, again I don't do spoilers, but a lesser man would give up. As for Simon King...

Needless To Say I had The Last Laugh

Oh dear, I've been wanting an autobiography from the talented Mr Coogan for years and had high hopes after the excellent 'I, Partridge.' The book begins with Coogan waxing lyrical about the success of the film 'Philomena' and how his Catholic faith had shaped him. The Alan Partridge cinema movie 'Alpha Papa' was also mentioned.

Fast forward to chapter upon chapter of bulk concerning his childhood, all told in a flat, monotone manner with little interest or insight. I mean, unless we're talking about the material in a post ironic Partridge way, who on earth wants to know about 'built in obsolescence' or his parents' kitchen knives?

I wasn't keen on the way he denigrated some of his former 'Spitting Image' colleagues either. Some fellow comedians came out well though.

What a disappointment.

Self conscious autobiography.

Just before the release I went to see Coogan and Ianucci at a Guardian live event - a thoroughly enjoyable evening and one which boosted my expectations for the biography.

To be frank, the thing reads (or listens) like a string of reviews that Coogan wishes he'd received for his life's works. When he's not talking up his own book, he painstakingly tries to justify his Champagne socialist attitude to life with tenuous references to his childhood. And I really do mean tenuous. I'm a huge fan of just about anything Coogan has appeared in, but this just reeks of 'stocking filler'.

The narration sounds rushed and emotionless at points where he speaks of moments in his life where he cannot paint himself as a saint.
