Publisher's Summary:
A one-woman play in two-acts about the life and times of Carole Lombard.
This study of Hollywood's favorite "screwball" comedienne begins on the eve of her death. Following a successful war bonds tour, she awaits word in an Indianapolis hotel room to see if she's been successful in securing plane reservations for a flight back to Los Angeles. She's anxious to get home, because she suspects that her husband, Clark Gable, is cheating on her.
Drawing liberally upon her legendary sailor's vocabulary, Ms. Lombard talks about her tragic affair with singer Russ Columbo, ex-husband William Powell, as well as George Raft, Gary Cooper, Joseph P. Kennedy and, of course, David O. Selznick and her ill-fated attempt to secure the role of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind.
Michael B. Druxman's Lombard is not a depressing play of approaching doom. It is a warm, funny story of a woman - the highest paid film actress of her day - who was a "fighter", both in her career and personal life.

Meeting Lombard Backstage.
For any fan of Carole Lombard, this play is irresistible. Druxman seamlessly incorporated many quotes associated with Lombard into the one-woman play, which is set in an Indianapolis hotel just before the plane trip that was to take her home to husband Clark Gable. But reading it is one thing: in your mind you see and hear Lombard herself. It would take a special woman, who may not necessarily look like Lombard, but would have her energy, sense of humor, and intelligence for the play to work. I haven't seen a presentation of it but will when the chance arises. Even if you're not a Lombard fan, you can come to know her and appreciate her. I highly recommend this, especially at a great price for downloading it to your device.
A great play on Carole Lombard
Michael B. Druxman's one woman play on the life of Carole Lombard is a moving and funny insight into this woman's life. She is remembered today mostly for her zany antics both on screen and off, her blue language and her marriage to Clark Gable. But Lombard was much more than a screen comedian and the consort of "the king" of Hollywood. She was a vibrant actress and an honest-to-god, giving and caring person to her co-workers, her friends and her family. Druxman's play captures the joy and the pathos of woman who was celebrated for being the spouse of a man she knew was cheating on her, Clark Gable, and a woman who lost the one man she truly loved, Russ Columbo. Lombard took life as she found it, and made lemonade from lemons. The say great comedians learn to laugh through their tears. Carole certainly did and Druxman's play captures the essence of the woman. A great read.
Carole's character remains timeless
Druxman wonderfully captures the spirit of Lombard -- someone whose sensibilities will always make her seem modern -- in this one-woman play.
surprise
The one woman play is a gem for an actress to play. I found the script surprisingly dense in that Lombard was portrayed not only as a star but a living breathing person with interesting and poignant relationships with her father, mother, husbands, fellow actors, and life itself. A fascinating potrait of an important life cut short by tragic circumstances.
OK
I guess I had higher expectations than was warranted.
