Great New Narrator

Where does Cop Killer rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

Very high, a lot of unexpected twists and turns. Great character building and the story was very believable. Easy to listen to; great narrator.

What other book might you compare Cop Killer to and why?

Actual it's a great story that's unique in my opinion. Normal cop stuff but the story line was unique.

What about Charles Hinckleys performance did you like?

His voice is deep. He was really able to build suspense in the cadence of his voice. My pet peeve is when male narrators can't do women well, but he did an excellent job. He also was able to give all characters their own voice, so you could easily follow the dialogue.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

An Homage to Classic Radio

A solid adaptation of the two Agent 13 novels from the mid-1980a, done in style befitting the classic era of radio drama in the 1930s. It captures the pulp-inspired atmosphere of the Flint Dille-David Marconi novels.

Would you listen to Agent 13 and the Invisible Empire: Part I again? Why?

I'd listen to CRT's production of Agent 13 again due to the excellent writing and dialogue. This is a many layered story masquerading as a pulp tale. Allusions to literary works, famous lines from movies and radio, and other pop culture from the 1930s all exist in this radio show.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the story because it's full of everything a pulp tale contains. Biblical references, G-men, lost races, diabolical scientists, talismans and can do characters facing the forces of evil.

Which character as performed by the narrators was your favorite?

Agent 13 of course, but followed close by Jack Spade. Combined all the radio actor performances demand a listener listen more than once. If you're a fan of old time radio then your ears are in for a treat.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No I didn't have an extreme reaction, but I did enjoy some chuckles over dialogue. It's not every day a group can pull off a comedic adventure pulp tale. The fine line between camp and action, once crossed, usually loses integrity in both genres.

Beware of the violence on children

I wish I had known this book contained violence against children as I would not have read it. I had the misfortune of reading this book (bust stopped due to the violence) before I was a parent. Now that Im a parent Im even more appalled that books with this content and/or storyline arent readily available to unassuming readers. This book has haunted me for the terrible things in it. I would not willingly read something with this content as it included extreme violence against children.

Well written and narrated. Great mystery, police procedural novel. With more than a hint of crazy monks.

I liked A DARK REDEMPTION, but I couldn't get through this book...I gave it 3.5 hours before I gave up. I might try the next book in series but I'll have to think about given how dreadful THE BLACK MONESTRY

The setting on the Greek island is very well described and adds to the tone and pace of the narrative. The description of the 3 main characters is full and rounded and makes them sympathetic and believable.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Black Monastery?

I don't think there was any one moment that stood out for me, rather I liked the way I was drawn into the mystery and the way that the past and present were drawn together.

What about Chris Pavlos performance did you like?

Great story, excellently read by a good story teller. Characters are brought to life by good narration.

Bang!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Damian Lynch, who has a light touch, is good at characterisation and getting personality into all the characters of the story. At times the investigation does not move very fast, but the listener is still held by the main story teller, Mr Brock, as his cleaner calls him.

I was happy following the twists, turns and good red herrings of this tale and have most of the books in this series.

Ok but...

The plot is reasonable but the detection a bit simplistic. The author was a high ranking police officer who does not seem to be in touch with modern methods and misses the procedures of the past. This would not be true of an officer of the modern day. The jargon and language is old fashioned. Ok if you want a very easy read.

Disappointing

I think Lennon has been reading a lot of Jonathan Franzen, Lionel Shriver and Stephen King, and then sat down to write this novel. The monotonous and uninteresting characters are very reminiscent of the first two, while the metaphysical premise of the novel is reminiscent of the latter. However in the hands of a good wordsmith like King, this story may have really gone somewhere, but this pallid version simply goes no where. Ultimately boring and mediocre.

She doesn't assume her readers are stupid! Wonderful reminder of physics class

One thing I like about Sara Paretsky's books is that they don't pretend the reader is stupid! I was reminded so much from my college physics classes and from general ethics and patent theory! And it's definitely something that was made obvious that the general, even smart person, doesn't see right away or at all. And as is generally her standard, no loose ends are left flying. I love Sara Paretsky, and her books are satisfying and fulfilling!

How close is this to real life? How close to the fictional detectives whose stories are on TV, who say there are eight million people in the city and the city has eight million stories. WWII even more?

Guau excelente!! una novela policíaca que combina viajes en el tiempo, universos paralelos en el marco de la guerra civil española. Desde el principio es sorprendente porque plantea un universo paralelo en la los Republicanos triunfan en la guerra civil debido a que Franco es asesinado, y allí comienzan los giros sorprendentes del relato con un final inesperado.

La producción no se queda atrás: varias voces y efectos especiales (buen trabajo).

I only got through three quarters of this book - the characters are too shallow and predictable and the language is clipped and unrealistic. I would not recommend this book.

I would absolutely listen to this book again because it kept me on the edge of my seat.

The psychological suspense felt just a tad like Silence of the Lambs.
