New York Times best-selling authors Lisa Jackson, Nancy Bush, and Rosalind Noonan unite their talents in this riveting novel of family secrets, obsession, and murder
    A killer's patience
Twenty years ago, a fire ravaged the Dillinger family's old homestead, killing Judd Dillinger and crippling his girlfriend. Most people blamed a serial arsonist who'd been seen around town. But strange things are happening in Prairie Creek, Wyoming, again.
    will be rewarded
Ira Dillinger, the family's wealthy patriarch, has summoned his children home for his upcoming wedding. Eldest son, Colton, and his siblings don't approve of their father's gold-digging bride-to-be. But someone is making his displeasure felt in terrifying ways, setting fires just like in the past. Only this time, there will be no survivors.
    in blood
As fear and distrust spread through Prairie Creek, soon all the Dillingers, and those closest to them, are targets - and suspects. A killer has been honing his skill, feeding his fury, and waiting for the moment when the Dillingers come home - to die

    ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE
95 percent icky, poorly written romance novel and 5 percent murder mystery. There was little suspense and the "scary parts" were mere interludes between cringe worthy sex scenes and family drama. The narrator plays multiple characters with a whiny, sickly sweet voice --- even some of the so called masculine characters. I can't say enough negative about this book. This is one of the worst books that I have listened to and I am even more irritated because the cover claimed this book was "the scariest novel of the year". Hardly.
    Don't Bother
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If Lisa Jackson had written this book by herself. The book is broken down into three parts. The first part is written by Lisa Jackson. Very well written and the book starts out with promise. Then they say - Second part written by Rosalind Noonan and the book takes off into another direction and immediately you have no idea what the story is about. It gets worse when Part three starts written by Nancy Bush.
Has Sinister turned you off from other books in this genre?
I thought it was a romantic suspense and to be honest I have no idea what kind of book it was.
Have you listened to any of Hillary Hubers other performances before? How does this one compare?
She did a good job as a narrator.
What character would you cut from Sinister?
All of them. This is a book with no direction. Too many love interest to keep up with. This is not the kind of book Lisa Jackson writes. I am a huge fan of Ms. Jackson and I am disappointed that she attached her name to this book.
    Any additional comments?
I will not purchase a book in the future that Lisa Jackson writes with co authors. A huge waste of a credit.
    Another winner!
I am a big Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush fan. Although this was in 3 parts with each part being written by a different author, the story blended seamlessly together. The plot was well constructed and keeps the listener on the edge of their seat. Bravo ladies.
    awesome
This was a good book, loved the narrarator. Hoping to find another by the trio.
    Intriguing story
Loved all the characters and the story line, kept me wanting to listen. The story didn't stray of track and kept me interested.

Thoroughly Enjoyable Mystery & Great on Audio
Katie Lightfoot is keeping herself busy. Between working at the bakery and volunteering, she barely has time to see her firefighter boyfriend, Declan. She's not avoiding Declan, but moreso avoiding her fate and destiny as a witch, and a powerful one at that. However she can't constantly run away from it, especially when her powers are needed to solve the murder of a fellow volunteer at the conservation group.
Charms and Chocolate Chips is the third book in the Magical Bakery Mysteries and I adored the first two books in this series. They combine my love of culinary cozies with paranormal elements just perfectly and often leave me [im]patiently waiting for the next book. I read the first two books in this series, and opted to listen to the latest book as an audiobook.
I like Katie Lightfoot. She's discovering lots of things about herself and her family that she didn't know before. She's only recently learnt that she's a witch and that's a lot to take on - especially when she learns that she's a "catalyst" and might be more powerful than she first thought. She's also taking baby steps with her relationship with Declan, given her previous disaster relationship. Add in another murder and well she's certainly got her hands full. However, what Katie soon discovers is that she can handle more than she thought she could!!
Charms and Chocolate Chips felt like a turning point for Katie. Her mother, who she hasn't spoken to very much since learning that her mother hid from her that Katie's a witch, is in town and it's great to learn more about Katie's family history and putting pieces of her own life's puzzle into place. For the reader we get a hint at exactly how much power Katie has and it's very interesting. I cannot wait to see how her powers progress as the series go on, as I'm sure it's going to be a great magical journey.
Charms and Chocolate Chips was a fantastic listen on audio. I listened while I dug into some holiday baking and it was a fantastic experience. Amy Rubinate was already one of my favorite narrators (based on her narration of The Selection series by Kiera Cass) and I'm so happy to see her narrating this series. She does a fantastic job of telling this story and her narration of Katie and her aunt, Lucy, are simply spot on. I plan to listen to future books in this series on audio.
I highly recommend this series to fans of culinary mysteries and paranormal mysteries.

Welcome to the first Haunted Guest House mystery - the getaway every reader can afford.
Newly divorced Alison Kerby wants a second chance for herself and her nine-year-old daughter. She's returned to her hometown on the Jersey Shore to transform a Victorian fixer-upper into a charming-and profitable guest house. One small problem: the house is haunted, and the two ghosts insist Alison must find out who killed them.
    Editorial Reviews:
Amanda Ronconi narrates this humorous mystery with the vocal equivalent of an eye roll. While she doesnt sound bored, she certainly sounds annoyed. But imagine her characters predicament: Shes purchased an old crumbling Victorian on the Jersey shore, shes fixing it up into a guesthouse, her precocious nine-year-old is hectoring, and now she finds out the Victorian is haunted!
Admittedly contrived, over-the-top, and including references that will be dated unto obscurity within the next decade or sooner, Night of the Living Deed seeks to achieve only one thing: Your temporary laughter and merriment at - or with - Ronconis eye-rolling voice.

So Happy I Found E.J. Copperman
Amanda Ronconi is one of my favorite audio book narrators. I will often try an unfamiliar author based on the narrators, which is why I gave Night of the Living Deed a listen. I am so happy that I did.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters, and look forward to listening to all the books in the series.
Had a blast listening to this one!
    Listened for fun (Audible)
    Tracking Books Read Review (Short)
    Overall Rating: 4.25
    Story Rating: 4.25
    Character Rating: 4.25
Audio Rating: 4.50 (not part of the overall rating)
First Thought when Finished: Night of the Living Deed had great characters, a solid mystery, and ghosts who added a bit of unusual to the story!
Story Thoughts: Confession: I picked up this book based on the fact that Amanda Ronconi narrated it. Yes I have gotten to the point where I will pick up books that I haven't heard of because of the narrators. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I actually enjoyed the story. I had not heard of E.J. Copperman but I think fans of Juliet Blackwell's Haunted Renovation series would really like this one. Alison is a strong leading lady, single mom, and she can see ghosts which is problematic at times. This particular element has a twist in that one of the ghosts is a private detective trying to solve his own murder. What ensues is just a fun who-dun-it with ghosts, moms, daughters, PTA's, and house renovations. Overall this was just a ton of fun and I can't wait for the 2nd one to come out in audio (these are older books so they are already out in ebook).
    Audio Thoughts:
Narrated By Amanda Ronconi / Length: 10 hrs and 3 mins
Amanda Ronconi simply rocks in most cases and this was no exception. She pulled off Allison, her daughter, her mother, and the two ghosts extremely well. Her timing was dead-on and the personality used was perfect for the characters. I totally recommend this one on audio!
Final Thoughts: Night of the Living Deed surprised me with fun, ghosts, and a leading lady I could root for!
    Fun but no cigar
The start of a new series with ghosts and killers and quirky characters, but it's still missing something. Night of the Living Deed, tells the story of Alison, a single mother who receives a whack on the head and now can see ghosts.

    Disappointed
Would you try another book from Anne Hillerman and/or Christina Delaine?
I would like to give Anne Hillerman another chance but not the narrator!
What was most disappointing about Anne Hillermans story?
I, like other reviewers, had the villian figured out half way through book!! Which left later part of book's supense dependent on Leaphorn's outcome & how all the involved agencies would finally figure out 'who dun it'!
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Even taking into consideration my bias toward Geo Guidall as narrator of Tony Hillerman's books I absolutely could not get into Delaine's narration!! The navajo female voices all sounded the same and the males feminine. Ugh.
What character would you cut from Spider Woman's Daughter?
The sister was unredeemable as written and I was left hanging as to her outcome or how 'stooped boy' played into her character.
    Any additional comments?
Prehaps I had too high of hope for this book. Those were mighty big shoes to fill and I really felt Tony himself was having difficulty filling his own shoes the last several books. They just weren't up to the first ones!
    The slide continues
The later books in the Jim Chee/ Joe Leaphorn Navaho series saga were lacking in comparison with his earlier works. His daughter's work (at least I assume this is his daughter) doesn't greatly reverse this slide. Officer Bernadette Manuelito is too broadly drawn to be a strong main character. the only thing we know about her for sure is that she resents her husband Jim Chee giving her directions; much less orders. This despite the fact that he is her superior officer.
The culprit in the book is obvious before you reach the halfway point. Despite this, both professional police officers and the FBI are don't perceive it until the the last hour of the audiobook. The relationship between 'Bernie' and her family never rises above obvious cliches and her sister is so entirely unsympathetic her problems so obviously self induced it wasn't possible to care much for her troubles.
The biggest problem I had with the audiobook though; was the reader. Perhaps it would not have mattered who replaced George Guidall; it wouldn't have been the same.

    POOR NARRATION
Would you try another book from James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge and/or Danny Mastrogiorgio and Henry Leyva ?
YES, IF IT HAD BOBBY CANNAVALE AS THE NARRATOR. I LOVE JAMES PATTERSON AND HAVE READ ALL THE BOOKS OF THE "MICHAEL BENNETT" SERIES, BUT THE NARRATION IS VERY DISTRACTING.
What was most disappointing about James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge s story?
I'M SORRY. I WAS UNABLE TO FINISH THE BOOK
Would you be willing to try another one of Danny Mastrogiorgio and Henry Leyva s performances?
    NO
    Any additional comments?
I MAY JUST HAVE TO GO BACK TO READING THE BOOK INSTEAD OF LISTENING IF I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.
    Missing Bobby!
    Any additional comments?
I missed hearing Bobby Cannavale as the voice of Michael Bennett. I guess I was spoiled hearing his voice. The story was a bit slower but the ending was good.
    Always Great
    Any additional comments?
As always, I love the MIchael Bennet series. The stories always keep me in suspense. I keep hoping that Michael and Mary Catherine will get together and add to the clan.
A good wrap up to I, Michael Bennett
A little gruesome for us old schoolers who remember when the cowboy was shot and you didn't see the blood didn't mean he wasn't dead. But I guess people need a more vivid picture these days to tell the bad guys from the good guys.
    Typical Paterson, terrible readers
My title mostly says it all. It is an exciting action story, but the readers were just terrible ... and there are two of them ... Oh well ...

    Publisher's Summary:
One misstep puts a man - and everyone he loves - in the path of a relentless killer.
The scion of an old-money San Francisco family, Daniel Brasher left his well-paying, respectable money-manager position to marry his community organizer wife and work at a job he loves, leading group counseling sessions with recently paroled violent offenders.
One night he finds an envelope - one intended for someone else that was placed in his office mailbox by accident. Inside is an unsigned piece of paper, a handwritten note that says, "Admit what you've done or you will bleed for it." The deadline in the note has already passed, and when Daniel looks into it, he finds that the person to whom the envelope was addressed was brutally murdered. But that's just the beginning.
It appears that the killer might have some connection to the offenders Daniel is counseling.
As he scrambles to uncover the truth, Daniel finds more warnings in his office mail, to people whom the police cannot track down, and to victims who cannot be saved. Daniel's efforts to find and help the victims, however, have alerted the killer to his involvement. Next Daniel gets a deadly threat of his own. Now, with the clock ticking, Daniel must somehow appease, outwit, or unmask a seemingly unstoppable killer.

    The purgatory of group therapy
I've loved every other Greg Hurwitz book I've read or listened to, so I actually 'saved' this one for a time when I really needed distraction. That was not a wise decision.
If you like lurking and prowling along the edges of endless group therapy sessions with a bunch of really low-life people, then this is for you. However interesting the first hour or two of it might be, as you see the techniques the protagonist-therapist uses to make headway with some of them, it gets supremely boring going into hours six, seven and eight. I started to think I should get paid to listen to all this. (Okay, there's SOME other plot points in between, but not much. Clearly Hurwitz has chosen this vehicle to tell the story.)
That's one thing you can say about Steve White's Dr. Alan Gregory -- also a psychologist: he knows when to stop with the coverage of therapy sessions. There's a limit as to how much the non-psychologists among us are willing to listen to.
Yes, it picked up toward the end, but if you're considering this book, think about how many hours of group therapy -- much of it rendered in Ebonics by narrator Scott Brick, who does a fine job of staying awake through it all. Unless you're a psychologist who can get continuing education points for this, I'd suggest moving on to some other Greg Hurwitz book.
Gregg Hurwitz just gets better and better!!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have read most of the Greg Hurwitz books and this one was not only nail biting and intense but also moving. The characters in the story are lovable, well most of them anyhow. Redemption being a common theme, I just loved the characters and the relationships. How about a sequel? The main character could easily have a series where he continues to help the police detective. And narrator, Scott Brick never disappoints. He has narrated many of Greg's books and I have listened to all of them.

2nd book I tried by him, wanted to like it but....
What disappointed you about Stalking the Angel?
It just couldn't hold my attention.
Would you ever listen to anything by Robert Crais again?
Maybe if it was a narrator I love.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
His sentences seemed to run together, pace or speed. I am not sure it just couldn't keep me interested.
    Any additional comments?
I may try it again, not sure.
    Not Crais Normal Standard
I enjoy Robert Crais characters and storylines. This book didnt rise to his normal excellent plots. It will be satisfying for Elvis Cole fans but is not a strong enough story to be a stand-alone example of his normal excellence.
    Reader wrong
Story was OK , but the narrator was all wrong for this part. Needed someone with a deeper voice and a little more menacing sounding.
Hated the performance. The last one was so good.
Whoever directed this one needs to check the previous work for performance continuity. hated it.
I love Robert Crais and his Elvis Cole novels.

A torso in a suitcase looks like an impossible case, but Sean Duffy isnt easily deterred, especially when his floundering love life leaves him in need of a distraction. So with detective constables McCrabban and McBride, he goes to work identifying the victim.
The torso turns out to be all thats left of an American tourist who once served in the U.S. military. What was he doing in Northern Ireland in the midst of the 1982 Troubles? The trail leads to the doorstep of a beautiful, flame-haired, twentysomething widow, whose husband died at the hands of an IRA assassination team just a few months before. Suddenly Duffy is caught between his romantic instincts, gross professional misconduct, and powerful men he should know better than to mess with. These include British intelligence, the FBI, and local paramilitary death squads - enough to keep even the savviest detective busy. Duffys growing senseof self-doubt isnt helping. But as a legendarily stubborn man, he doesnt let that stop him from pursuing the case to its explosive conclusion.
    Members Reviews:
Hear "Cold Ground" First, Then Audlble This!
Sean Duffys back in both the 80s and in Belfast A double dosing of intriguing melancholia. Please. Please. Please listen first to The Cold Cold Ground, Adrian McKintys introduction to Sean Duffys police work in the heart of the Irish Troubles. Its important to avoid spoilers for that introductory book youll surely want to visit after youve finished this one.
But more importantly, Sean Duffy is bending in the fury of the cultural maelstrom raging about him. And the way the nature of all of this is shaping his development is deeply moving. Duffy of Sirens in the Streets is not the young man who we first met in Cold Cold Ground. This isnt as much a series as it is an epic psychological evolution cut into sort of stand-alone hunks with I Hear Sirens as the second.
The sense of place in time hot-welds you inside of Ulster and its non-normal normalcy. Apparently McKinty means to write a trilogy but the detective puzzle this time is powerfully different from the fist and the ensemble cast adds and loses characters with the frequency of Irelands emigration rates.
Gerard Doyles mouth is filled with Irish and he speaks the story through a lilt thats got to make this a finer experience than youd hope for from the printed page. Ill be among the first to buy the next installment in this Sean Duffy series.
    Pitch Perfect Voice and Words
The narrator's voice with a beautiful Irish lilt is perfectly matched to the words that are so well-written by McKinty. I want to compare the writing to soaring poetry, but I lack the skills to define how much this story -- this series -- moves me to listen so intently. I actually listened to some chapters a second time, not because I didn't understand, but because I wanted to hear it again. I am already looking forward to the day that I can re-listen to this series.
Don't even think of starting this book unless you have heard the first in the series "A Cold, Cold Ground". The background and place (1980's in Northern Ireland) have taught me a great deal about the "Troubles" near Ulster. It is fortunate that the first book is just as excellent as the second.
    Sean Duffy is my hero.

    Waited so long
For Martha Grimes Jury series on Audible, I love this series and it only gets better. However, the narrator is all wrong, he misses the wit and nuance. The humor is dry and smart, the narrator is not.
Good mysteries, but I'm not sure I'll keep buying if they are all narrated by West.
    what genre is this?
I came across this series and started with book #1 and this is my second in the series, book #2. I'm still not quite sure what genre to put this in? it's clearly a murder mystery but it's not really a thriller, not a page turner. It's more in the line of a Sherlock Holmes mystery, a thinking person's mystery. And, yet, there is also the aspect of an American author writing the story set in England and sort of making fun, a spoof almost, of the British way of life, the language, the aristocracy and the class system, which we Americans find interesting, I suppose, if not a bit strange. Still, with all this said, my goal in any book is to be entertained and that I was.
Second reading through narration a real pleasure
Where does The Old Fox Deceiv'd rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    Top 5
Who was your favorite character and why?
Richard Jury and Melrose Plant. They are strong men with different personalities formed out of different upbringings yet they develop an intuitive relationship as the books move through the series. While the books can be stand alone, reading them in sequence lets you see this respect grow; you also meet the other characters with all their eccentricities as they move in and out of the books. They are a treat and how Jury and Plant interact with them is great fun.
Have you listened to any of Steve Wests other performances before? How does this one compare?
So far, this is my 3rd book I'm "rereading" with narration by Steve West. The Audible narration is a true delight. I read all the Martha Grimes Richard Jury books years ago, up to her latest. Her earlier ones are her best as one follows the eccentric characters through several books.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
These are murder mysteries after all so the subject is not humorous. However, there are lots of chuckles especially with Mr. West's narration catching the sarcasm and off kilter humor of the characters. He conveys the dry humor and quirkiness in these books so well yet the seriousness of the murder(s) comes across strongly in his narration.
    Any additional comments?
Mr. West has an impressive range for the various voices, so much so at times I almost think more than one person is speaking the various voices.

Like a pilot for a tv series...
This book for me is similar to a pilot for a tv series - the characters and the plot are just getting settled into their roles and there are moments where they don't feel "firm". There are a couple of times where I felt something was off with the characters, but by the second book the author had the flow and characters down pat.
This book is a short one at just over 5 hours. It might come across as a bit rushed for some so I give that warning, but I feel it's a good start to the series and I liked it enough to purchase the second book.
I will say there are no clues as to who the murderer is throughout the story. *cheeky grin* But you do meet him early on in the story. This is something a little different for me as most mysteries I listen to have clues and I can guess them with accuracy pretty early on. So it was a refreshing change.
    Promising mystery, but lousy romance
What would have made Dirty Little Secrets better?
More mystery, less sex and constant talk of sex. I found this book in the modern detective section of mysteries. I had no idea that it would be half mystery half really bad Harlequin Romance. The main character is a coroner investigating several murders, yet 75% of her thoughts and conversation revolves around sex, how long it's been since she's had sex, and hen she will have sex again. It was boring pretty quickly.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The murderer was a surprise. The why was a bit contrived, but it was pretty well thought out.
Have you listened to any of Laura Faye Smiths other performances before? How does this one compare?
No this was my first book narrated by Ms. Smith. She was good and had very good control of her characters.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Dirty Little Secrets?
Everything involving the mystery writer, Brody. I liked him and he could have added to the story as an outsider and possible suspect. But Brody was only treated as a warm body for the main character to objectify.
    Any additional comments?
The main character is supposed to be a 30year old doctor, but her internal monologue and actions are more in line with an 18 year old.
