    Narrator: Mary Ann Jacobs
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 2 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-29-15

    Publisher's Summary:
A .38, a nip of gin, and sensational legs get Depression-era private investigator Maggie Sullivan out of most scrapes - until a stranger threatens to bust her nose, she's hauled in on suspicion of his murder and she finds herself in the cross-hairs of a crime boss with connections at City Hall.
Moving through streets where people line up at soup kitchens, Maggie draws information from sources others overlook: the waitress at the dime store lunch counter where she has breakfast; a ragged newsboy; the other career girls at her rooming house.
Her digging gets her chloroformed and left in a ditch behind the wheel of her DeSoto. She makes her way to an upscale bordello and gets tea - and information - from the madam herself.
A gunman puts a bullet through Maggie's hat. Her shutterbug pal on the evening paper warns her off. A new cop whose presence unsettles her thinks she's crooked. Before she finds all the answers she needs, she faces a half-crazed man with a gun, and a far more lethal point-blank killer.
If you like Robert B. Parker's hard boiled Spencer series and strong women sleuths, don't miss this one-of-a-kind Ohio detective from a time in United States history when dames wore hats - but seldom a Smith & Wesson.

A Perfect LISTEN: Pithy Mystery + Spot-On Voice
NO GAME FOR A DAME is both a good mystery and a good audio book, not an easy accomplishment. Successful audible tales must have fast-paced and vivid scenes and clearly-conveyed characters. The narrative voice must be smooth with a bit of inflection and dramatic variation, but not too much. In all these ways, NO GAME FOR A DAME excels.
Moreover, the novel's protagonist, aggressive and resourceful private investigator Maggie Sullivan, takes us on a romp through 1930s Dayton, Ohio. Maggie views the world and its residents with a steady, honest gaze; her perspective brings to life even peripheral characters. Stereotypes do not exist in Maggie's world.
What fun it is to immerse myself in a Maggie Sullivan mystery. I trust that many more will follow.
    Retro
Very retro feel, old time detective story. Nothing special, but a nice listen. If there were more in the series I'd listen to the next.
    Fun book.
This was a really fun book. I enjoyed the characters, the story, the mystery and the narration was very good. Mary Ann Jacobs did a great job of changing her voice so that different characters were easily distinguishable. Plus she read the book with dramatic flair. I would recommend this book.
A good read. Effectively captured the era. I want
to see the romance develop with Connelly. The narrator was good just the right nuance for the current episode
    Well written, well read
I love the Maggie Sullivan mysteries, and was thrilled when I learned they were available as audiobooks. The narrator does an excellent job as Maggie's voice.

    Fantastic!
The only thing wrong with this series is waiting for the next installment! The quality is wonderful as is the narrator!
    The heroine is a favorite,
The series continues on a pleasant path. In these books, one gets a flavor of the slow and gentle south. However, this translates into a slow-paced plotline.
    The series is getting better
This is the best yet in the series- I'm just hoping in the next book Colleen gets special dispensation to let Nate know about her.
Can't wait for the next book
What made the experience of listening to Lowcountry Boneyard the most enjoyable?
The narrator did such a great job with the southern accent. I love the romance, the family interaction and all of the mystery.
    Any additional comments?
    Don't miss this wonderful series.
    Suspense and romance
Mystery within a mystery in historic Charleston as Liz works through her own relationship issues. My favorite it the series but also a good standalone read.

    Release date: 05-05-15
    Publisher: Macmillan Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 632 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
Ann Cleeves is back with the sixth book in her Shetland series featuring Inspector Jimmy Perez, whom listeners will remember from Raven Black, White Nights, Red Bones, Blue Lightning, and Dead Water.
A group of old university friends leave the bright lights of London and travel to Shetland to celebrate the marriage of one of their friends. But one of them, Eleanor, disappears - apparently into thin air. It's midsummer, a time of light nights and unexpected mists. And then Eleanor's body is discovered lying in a small loch close to the cliff edge.
Detectives Jimmy Perez and Willow Reeves are dispatched to investigate. Before she went missing, Eleanor claimed to have seen the ghost of a local child who drowned in the 1920s. Her interest in the ghost had seemed unhealthy - obsessive, even - to her friends: an indication of a troubled mind. But Jimmy and Willow are convinced that there is more to Eleanor's death than they first thought. Is there a secret that lies behind the myth? One so shocking that someone would kill - many years later - to protect it?
Ann Cleeves' striking new novel is a quintessential whodunit with surprises at every turn.

    weird pauses throughout
weird pauses throughout book...production could have been much improved. the book content was awesome but the pauses kinda ruined it for me
    Best in the series.
What did you love best about Thin Air?
The descriptions of life on the Shetland Islands and the wonderful voice of the narrator.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot was engaging, but to be honest, I listened more for the back stories than the plot.
Which character as performed by Kenny Blyth was your favorite?
Probably Jimmy Perez, but I also found Willow very interesting.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, absolutely. It ended too quickly for me, again, in part because of the great narrator.
    Any additional comments?
I can't praise Kenny Blyth enough!
    Best Shetland Mystery Yet
Ann Cleeves kept me guessing 'til the end. Jimmy is appealing, dark, quiet, brooding, yet vulnerable and kind. All characters were interesting. Narration was great.
    Shetland Island Intrigue!
Another great Shetland Island mystery. Great characters and good plot. Ann Cleeves never disappoints! Anxiously waiting for next book!
    Suspenseful novel that gains power
When I started this book I enjoyed the exotic setting but found the story slow going. Before too long the characters took on lives, particularly the detectives. By them I was committed to the book and had to find out what happened...who did it! I was surprised at the ending!

    Vera enemy better in print(voice)!
I love watching Vera on TV. Ann Cleves magnificent novel about Vera is a reading (listening) treat beyond all. I never write reviews, I decided to write this one in hopes of convincing you to listen to this wonderful performance. I also hope that the rest of the Vera books are eventually recorded. And if that's the case, Please give the job of narration to Charlie Hardwick
    !
    Long Live Vera
I first "discovered" Vera Stanhope on TV. The extraordinary actress Brenda Blethyn brings her completely to life. Anxious to see if the books were as good, I was glad to see that Audible features one of her adventures - I certainly am hoping for more!
Vera is a dedicated, persistent investigator. She's also a loner, inept in social situations; a poor dresser; and a woman with demons from her past. Sound familiar? Well, she may not be the only such character in mystery fiction, but she is one of the most interesting.
"Silent Voices" follows a very complicated path to a very complicated conclusion. Maybe a bit too complicated - but Vera and her team make it well worth the journey.
I will look for more Cleeves
A very enjoyable read/listen. I had enjoyed the Shetland mysteries and decided to try one from another series. I love Vera! She's not an antihero, but she is certainly a non-traditional heroine. What fun to read about a real person, one with brains to spare, but also with real foibles.
    Great plot, even better narration.
North east accents are hard to do, the narrator nails the accent, the turns of phrase and local idioms. This is one canny book pet.
    Wonderful
Excellent story, perfect narration. You envision the characters from the TV series, but it does not get in the way of the story. More please.

I hope there will be more of this series.
A Crime of Passion is Book 7 in Scott Pratt's extraordinary Joe Dillard series (yes, I know that Audible lists it as Book 6, but that is not correct). I hope it is not the final Joe Dillard novel. Scott Pratt is now on my short list of favorite mystery/thriller authors and is #1 in the legal thriller category. Tim Campbell flawlessly narrates all of the novels in the series.
Highly recommended, but read the series in order.
    Good solid story, fine narration
Kept my attention and I stayed in the driveway more than once to finish a chapter. That's all I ask
Another Home Run By Scott Pratt
What an excellent job Scott Pratt did in writing this series. Every book has had a riveting plot and the characters blend seamlessly from novel to novel. I have a hard time finding a stopping place in all the books because they never cease to hold my attention.
    Another legal thriller
Totally enjoyed this book. Pace was good, dialogue was well done, and character development was excellent.
    Riveting
The storyline continues without any mediocre details. The narrator flows into each character in a way that allows my imagination to picture the character. This story was not predictable.

    Totally unput-down-able! More please!
    Any additional comments?
I was first introduced to Anne Cleeves' Shetland series via the BBC's televised series, which I loved. The books are much much better and beautifully read by Gordon Griffin. The mystery remained whole until the last fifteen minutes and I would have never guessed the identity of the culprit. But added to the suspense, there is the unfolding of Jimmy Perez, the main detective's, new romance with Fran, as well as the wonderful sense of place and an introduction to the Shetland Island's customs. I thoroughly recommend this audiobook.
    Another gripping Shetland thriller
Great story! Ann Cleeves really keeps you guessing. I found the end shocking and difficult!
Thanks to BBC and Public Television!
If my local public television station hadn't broadcast the Shetland mystery series produced by the BBC I might not have found this author.
This is my fourth Ann Cleeves book. The books are long, but they've never seemed too long as I've listened to them. In fact, as soon as I'm done with a book, I immediately want to move on to the next one. I am trying to pace myself, so I don't run out of Ann Cleeves books to listen to!
One thing that sets this series apart is Jimmy Perez. In him the author has created a complex and fascinating character. The other main "character" in this series is Shetland. There is a very strong sense of place in this series.
    Narrator Gordon Griffin is superb.
    So Satisfying
As always with Ms. Cleeves, her characters are wide-ranging, interesting, and believable; and her sense of place is exquisite. Things didn't always go as I'd wanted, but it worked somehow. Narration is good. Happy to have had this one.
    Slow-burning police procedural
This was my favorite of the first four Shetland books I know because it forced me to immediately start the fifth book. Its a slow-burning police procedural about a bird expert being killed on the Fair Isles. If Cleeves has a problem, it's that she creates such rich characters, even minor ones who are only around for a few chapters, so you want to scream at her when she kills them off. Bechdel test: Pass. Grade: A-
Narration: Very good. I like him slightly better than the narrator who takes over after this book.

Good narration and storyline. Patterson never let you down. I enjoy the characters and the way they progress. Looking forward to the next book.
    Pretty good!!! Great announcer!!
I enjoyed it!!! Really enjoyed the announcer!! Great story teller. Great character voices!! Pretty face paced... Good storyline. Get it a try!!
    Great As Always
Great storyline overall loved it I love how they keep the characters going but put them in totally different scenarios..
Great Addition to the NYPDRED Series
It is not uncommon for books in a series to decline in quality after the first 1 or 2 books. Not so in this case. The book was very enjoyable with a lot of nail-biting moments. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good cop story.
    Patterson comes through again.
What did you love best about NYPD Red 3?
The characters of this book are setup perfectly. You wouldn't have to listen to either of the first two books to enjoy this one.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
NYPD Red 3 has a great story keeps you involved in the story. Couldn't wait to listen daily.

Another book in a great series ruined by narration
I have listened to every one of Lisa Scottoline's Rosato and Associates books in the series. I always purchase Audible versions of Scottoline's books because the narration by Barbara Rosenblatt has been outstanding and pure enjoyment. Maria Bello is simply awful as a narrator. Some words are almost mumbled, others over-enunciated to the point of annoyance, terrible attempts at Spanish accent, common words mis-pronounced, poor pacing of narration ... you name the potential problem with a narrator and it has been exemplified in this book. If Maria Bello is reading the next one, I'll be buying the book and reading instead of listening.
    Fastpaced & fun
I prefer the story about Mary, but i still enjoyed this. Bit too much drama, especially towards the end, but i liked it anyway.
    Good story - awful narration.
Would you try another book from Lisa Scottoline and/or Maria Bello?
I enjoy Lisa Scottoline but Maria Bello's narration is not enjoyable.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
It was nice getting to know Judy.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Maria Bello?
The narrator that has read past Scottoline books - she was fabulous.
Do you think Betrayed needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
    Of course.
    Bad narration spoiled the book
I couldn't finish this because of the narrator. I usually enjoy the author so I may buy the book on Kindle at some stage.
    A good page turner
In this book of the Rosato series now the Rosato and DiNunzio series, the story focus on associate attorney Judy Carrier. Judy is at odds since Mary DiNunzio became a partner in the firm. Judy is busy with the Linda Adlers sex discrimination suit against Penn Bank. Bennie Rosato turns over 75 asbestos liability cases to her. Its the type of work that could establish Judy as a rainmaker and pave the way to becoming a partner.

    Publisher's Summary:
Winner of the Tony Hillerman Prize, Bad Country is a debut mystery set in the Southwest starring a former rodeo cowboy turned private investigator, told in a transfixingly original style.
Rodeo Grace Garnet lives alone, save for his old dog, in a remote corner of Arizona known to locals as the Hole. He doesn't get many visitors, but a body found near his home has drawn police attention to his front door. The victim is not one of the many illegal immigrants who risk their lives to cross the border just south of the Hole, but is instead a member of one of the local Indian tribes.
Retired from the rodeo circuit and scraping by on piecework as a private investigator, Rodeo doesn't have much choice but to say yes when offered an unusual case. An elderly Indian woman has hired him to help find who murdered her grandson, but she seems strangely uninterested in the results. Her indifference seems heartless, but as Rodeo pursues his case, he learns that it's nothing compared to true hatred - and he's about to realize just how far hate can go.
    C. B. McKenzie's Bad Country captures the rough-and-tumble corners of the Southwest in accomplished, confident prose, with a hard-nosed plot that will keep readers riveted.

Wow!! Please give this book a chance to knock you off your feet!
Wandering around Audible can be great fun as you all know. I stumbled on this book and went for it because of the reviews and the narrator. I tend to avoid modern western themes, finding them often as arid as the land they describe. This listen is different. The lush description of land and people is, well, blushing as I type this, simply majestic. The room of a dead boy, the
P.I's home, his dog, his life that only slowly starts to reveal itself, is the writing of a master. If you love words, give this book a chance. I hope his follow up will be as good. If it is, we have another Hemingway on our hands. Whisper sync is a good idea for this listen just for the ease of bookmark retrieval and to see the beautiful words with your eyes as well as hearing with your ears. Please give it a shot and share with me what you think. This is a talent that deserves our support. Peace, love and understanding to all!
Gritty Western Motif Not Afraid to Bend the Genre
The dialogue in this story is fantastic. I kept marveling at how this author brought these characters to life with what they said. However, what was even better was that just when the listener thinks he/she has a character caricatured, the author slips us another nugget to jiggle up our stereotyping tendencies.
The plot is so much more than the blurb above. This is a story of a righteous man, living the best he can with very few resources other than intelligence and determination. It's not your run-of-the-mill detective story. The main character is just shy of mythic, no doubt written as such to ensure we see him with more humility than heroism.
For my Western loving friends I say, "Yes pard'." And, to everyone else, I say that this story can be gritty, but is worth your time. Enjoy!
Captures the spirit of modern day old west.
I have listened to the entire Cork O'Connor series by William Kent Kruger and the Joe Picket series by CJ Box. This book reminds me a lot of those books. Excellent story telling. Intriguing characters. It was a little hard to get to know Rodeo Garnett in the beginning.

    Good story
I've read all of the books prior to this & enjoyed them- the story was good, I didn't care for the narrator. There was a weird affect to her voice as just the normal narrator that I found annoying.

Would you listen to Some Enchanted Eclair again? Why?
Read yes! Listen, No! Amy Rubinate is too breathy and colorless, the main character Katie Lightfoot and the psychic sound exactly the same! They had a conversation that I could not keep up with who was saying what. Ms. Rubinate's other female characters are ok when they have a strong accent, she can do it, although rather they come across rather dull. But worst of all I could have sworn there was only one man in the book, they all sounded the same! All gruff, no distinctive difference.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Some Enchanted Eclair?
I do not want to give the plot away, but again, another great story!
How could the performance have been better?
Give distinction to her male voices, and be less "breathy and dull".
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Read, yes, listen to No! I had to listen a few minutes then put it down because her voice was so anoying!
    Any additional comments?
Am I the only one who finds this woman's voice anoying? I like these books and I would like to recomend them to friends but I would not recomend with this Narrator!
    Angry and Annoyed
I enjoy this series for what it is: a light cozy mystery with recipes. However, the recipes are not included in this version. I had to buy the Kindle version after I already bought the audiobook version. I was very upset. However, the book was good and I enjoyed reading about Katie and her friends solving another murder while creating delicious treats.
The narrator and story line were enchanting.
Listening to this audiobook was a pleasant mental break from ordinary responsibilities, a fun staycation. I recommend it highly!
    HoneyBee Bakery Series
The whole series is so good and enjoyable. It has humor, mystery and thrilling climaxes. You can't go wrong with listening to Bailey Cates Honeybee Bakery Series.
