Where does Defending Your Faith rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

R.C. Sproul has a effective understanding of apologetics and it's desperate need in this modern era. This book is a must for any one interested in sharing and defending Biblical Christinity

Thouroughly enjoyed it.

This was my first delve into apologetics and R.C Sproul does a wonderful job of making complicated arguments comprehensible. Rob Dean, the narrator, does a great job. If you like apologetics, you'll love this book, I think.

Too technical

This is not a layman's introduction to apologetics. This is a very technical textbook for graduate level philosophy students. At least, that's what it seemed like to me. I am not a stupid person, but I was lost through much of this. This is not the first apologetics book I've read/listened to, but this was the most difficult. I haven't finished it yet and I'm not sure I will. Very advanced and uses highly technical language. I would only recommend this only if you have a firm foundation of philosophy and logic.

I think Protestant evangelicals ought to challenge themselves to a reading marathon of thoughtful Catholic writers of the last century - starting with Chesterton, Tolkien, and Nouwen (and I say that as an evangelical Protestant!).

Wonderful Narration, Important Work

I'd be lying if I said I can read Chesterton with ease. In truth, I listen to this book often, trying to follow the great GK Chesterton. His wit is unsurpassed. His confidence is inspiring.

Great voice, great content

A very pleasant British voice reads a masterpiece by Chesterton. Easy to follow on audiobook... Not too dense to mentally process without the physical page.

Good information for today

I can see why this is the book that CS Lewis found so compelling. Even though it was written over 100 years ago, you still see the same attitudes today.

Classic, for Christians and non-Christians

For those new to Chesterton, this is a great place to start. He lays out his basic Christian philosophy in a way you will not find anywhere else. It is not a sermon--more like a highly literary and hilarious explanation of his "discovery" of truths that others had discovered thousands of years ago. Highly recommended for Christians and non-Christians alike--Chesterton is simply one of the funniest and most profound writers in the English language, and even if you come to disagree with his ultimate conclusions, you are guaranteed to enjoy hearing how he came to them. I think that were it not for the fact that many of his writings are at least partly religious in nature, he would be required reading in all schools. He's that good, and for the non-Christian, even for the committed atheist, this book is a must read/listen. You will enjoy it, it will give you new insight into why reasonable people can come to be Christians, and despite the title, you will not be annoyed by his idea of orthodoxy--it's quite different from the common meaning. The recording is excellent.

Excellent

I have listened to this book several times now. I recommend it to any man who truly wants to change and become a true leader within his home, workplace, church and community. I continue to listen to this book as a source of encouragement and motivation. I continue to strive to make the necessary changes in my life to love my wife and children the way Christ commands. Something all men should read.

In a world filled with so many views of what a man is; this is a detailed reference guide through the word of God.

A guide to be a man of Christ

Gene lays out well what it really takes to be and show real biblical manhood.

If you need help this book may be what you need

if you need help this book may be what you need; however, if you are looking for how to improve a moderately OK life then this is not your book. If you just need a ffew pointers in life, this is not your guide. This book seemed more for the "the world is crap" male mind-set. Sorry, I'm not even close to that mind-set, so I couldn't relate. I suggest "The Male Brain," as a very good read/listen.

Decent read for Christians (men and women, alike)

A little old fashion (which is to be expected given when it was written), however there were good nuggets of information in here. I felt the author did seem to self promote his book a lot (which I found a bit annoying).

Repeat forever: over & over

This is more than a one time experience. I will listen to this over & over for continued prayer & meditation on the beautiful psalms. It is soothing, uplifting & encouraging. I really loved it. Interesting

Well narrated shirt simple explanation of Catholicism. Being raised catholic you often do as you are told and this explains many of the things that just were.

incredibly informative.

I'm not a catholic, yet intrigued. this book was teeming with knowledge and insight. Catholicism is such a complex belief system to me but this helped shine some light. It didn't really cover their ideas and thoughts as far as angels and demons per se, however the everyday catholic and his/her life is greatly displayed. Thank you.

The description of the Catholic priest scandals as a bad marriage. The concept of marriage is still sound and not to be blamed. In the Catholic priest scandal the religion is not to be blamed it was just a couple of bad apples.

This book is a modern classic for the esoteric

I really never thought I'd find a modern book that gives so much hidden esoteric & symbolic knowledge & wisdom. I have been a member of several esoteric groups for many years that have not penetrated this deeply into the true & highest levels of understanding of a path that I gave up many years ago. This book has given me a new & dynamic perspective of Christianity & completely reinvigorated my interest in it's teachings. Richard Smoley is not only an adept but his voice & tone is pleasant & scholarly while he is able to articulate intricate information in a way that even a beginner on the path can understand & assimilate into daily practices that will reap wisdom & self knowledge for a lifetime.

Would you consider the audio edition of Inner Christianity to be better than the print version?

I have over 300 audio books in my Audible library and this is the first book that compelled me to write a review. It continues to hold my interest and is a great balance of scholarship and modern language. There is substance for the experienced adept as well as the uninitiated. There are so many outstanding attributes contained in this audio book, that I also purchased and read the paperback and buy copies for friends and fellow esoteric students. Give this well researched and written gift to yourself.

Comprehensive and Achieves its Goal

Very detailed without being overwhelming. He explains much in a very orderly manner that most who follow the path must either discover or dig out on ones own. He provides a launch pad for further study, (very little of which is unfortunately in Audible.)

Richard Smoley unveils some of the symbolisms of the cross to make it understandable by the layman. One of them, the cross as the living intersection of time and space was brought about by unassailable reasoning. And led the listener to a long meditative inner travel...

This is not the Audiobook . . .

Instead, it is a recording of Caroline talking about what I believe is the contents of her new book. She is often strident in tone. I believe the reason for this tone is she is trying to reach and ground many folks who are seeking knowledge, but are motivated for the wrong reasons. If you can listen through the repetition, the strident, lecturing tone, there are some real gems in this 'speech.' In particular, the last 35 minutes I will replay again and again for myself. I'll have to watch carefully in the future to distinguish between 'speech' and 'audiobook' when I select recordings from Audible.com.

Loved it...

This is the third audio course I have listened to by Myss. If you liked Energy Anatomy and the Language of Archetypes then this will be your next installment. I feel like I have been following along with Myss' as she developes her own deepening understanding and insights on the journey and challenges for those of us who feel like a monk without a monestary.

One of Caroline's Absolute Best

This wonderful audio program (and the book of the same title that inspired it) should be called "Keys to the Kingdom", because that's really what it is. A profoundly moving and potentially life-changing spiritual teaching...how anyone can find it lacking in substance or get hung up on Caroline's passionate delivery is utterly beyond me. This is deep, challenging material, not the usual New Age fluff that has infected so much of our contemporary spiritual culture. Yes, Caroline's interpretation of St. Teresa's brilliant work is inclusive and not wedded to religious dogma, but that's a positive aspect of this program, not a negative one. The insights of the world's great mystics -- regardless of spiritual tradition -- belong to all of humanity, and Caroline has helped to share some of this holy wisdom with us in this amazing program.

Excellent, as usual

I love her tone - it is full of conviction, power and awe. I do not find her strident or judgmental, but instead inspiring and urging people to come to a deeper understanding of life and God, and the mystics. Yes, she does speak with conviction (and is sometimes quite humorous!), and rightly so - this is an excellent examination of ourselves, with very practical and specific suggestions on how to navigate the internal spiritual pathways with grace and humility.

Excited for Heaven

I listened to this book while on a mission trip in Russia and as he described the "new earth" I looked around at the rolling hills, orchards and mountains in the background and realized that is where I wanted to live in eternity! This book really has me looking at eternity in a new way and thus living my life in a new way. I highly recommend it.

What a Blessing!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. Unlike most books where the author does the reading, Randy Alcorn is as good as any professional reader I've heard. He makes me anxious to get to heaven (but in God's perfect time)!

An intresting study

You know, I was surprised to see how little I knew about the afterlife. This book goes through (in some detail) what to expect in your new life. It clarifies several misconceptions such as that we will be disembodied spirits in heaven and that God gave up on the planet earth and is just waiting for it to end to gather up whats left. The author gives us many things to look forward to, and he reads it so well that it is like you are hearing a friend speaking to you and comforting you.

I am very new to this whole thing, just listening to the authors interpretations helped me a lot to just get the general gist of things and kept me motivated to keep looking. After you read this consider picking up `lord foulgrin's letters` or `the screwtape letters`, both very good!

Poor quality

I have purchased and given multiple copies of MTC as a tool to spread the gospel. The audio falls short however. Ending with a lenghtly telephone interview of the author which is terrible in quality and content. It comes across like a cheap attempt to sell books and is a complete turn off. I would not give the recording to anyone who is not a believer. Very sad...could be a powerful tool. Should be re-recorded w/o the interview.

This is a serious life changing book

After reading this book anybody that rejects the gospel will have a healthy enough respect for it at atleast! I am a Christian already listening to this book just served to strengthen my faith.
