    Bible Study Primer
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a great book, easy to listen to, yet full of precious instruction for solid Bible study. I recommend this to everyone serious about reading the bible either for or against it.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Knowing Scripture?
The rules for 'private interpretation' and 'implicit statements interpreted by explicit statements' were very eye opening and extremely helpful in finding what the author of the bible meant to communicate. "Truth is not subjective, but objective!"
What about Rob Deans performance did you like?
the reader performed his job well. Present, but not distracting...
Solid teaching from a great teacher
Would you listen to Knowing Scripture again? Why?
The amount and depth of the solid theology in all of R.C. Sproul's books never cease to amaze me. I would always say yes I will probably listen again, because there is so much depth to his teaching, you can never get it all in one trip through his books.
    Any additional comments?
R.C. Sproul is a powerfully gifted teacher, that breaks down the subject matter in such a way that anyone can understand, and grow from it. You could be the newest Christian, or a seasoned pastor, and gain from his knowledge, and adherence to the Bible.
    Truly blessed
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I want to send this book to everyone I know, I wish when I started my journey I was introduced to this book, but it is never too late. I learned that reading the bible is essential as part pf a Christian life.
So much in our world is changing quickly and we have to come up with new ways to handle things, well its the same with reading the bible. Finding newness in your spirit while reading because the bible is alive and it ought to revive you. This book helps with that.
What does Rob Dean bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
His emphasis on certain action words and confidence in the reading made e want to pause the CD and do some research for myself.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book made me think more about how I read Scripture, the resources I use and how to use them us to get the most from them.
    Any additional comments?
One of my favorite quotes was "you can understand the basic message of the bible" the newspaper and some of these blogs are harder to read. Refresh your devotion time with a new improved way to reading the bible.
    Very informative
as my first introduction to Hermeneutics, I will be buying the book. R.C. Sproul is certainty one of my top go-to theologians.
    Highly Recommend
This is a library necessity for your theological studies.

    Language: English

    Publisher: christianaudio.com

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Foster provides a way to rethink our priorities and to "seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness"/ He shows us how to live in harmony with the rich complexity of life while stressing the relation of simplicity to prayer, solitude, and all the Christian Disciplines.
    Critic Reviews:
"Lloyd James narrates this fascinating book, which addresses the problem of people's attempts to find satisfaction in their lives by acquiring more and more things - which, of course, rarely achieves the desired end....James's well-modulated voice reflects the author's passion. His strong, clear delivery creates a convincing presentation. This dynamic audiobook is well worth your time. (AudioFile)
"If everybody in this country could read--and heed--this book, what a difference it would make to the planet; nay to the cosmos." (Madeleine L'Engle)
    Members Reviews:
    Challenging and provoking
In this book, Foster challenges us to view ourselves and our stuff from God's perspective - His people and His stuff. In calling us to the freedom from protecting our possessions, he leads us to live our lives with an open hand.
He remains ecumenical in his sourcing for this work, much like Celebration of Discpline. Even in this, his "Quaker-ness" comes through, with the beauty of Jesus as teacher.
A worthy read, and the narrator does a superb job in creating the illusion that the words are his. The hours of listening are much like having a deep, extended conversation with a trusted friend rather than a stilted lecture from a professor.
    It's Not About Simplicity
    Any additional comments?
This book is mistitled. It's about Christian charity and giving, which is a fine message, but not why I bought the audio book. Almost all of the book provides a Biblical basis for helping our Christian brothers and sisters, but just about none of it how to achieve simplicity. This was a disappointment. The message is great. It's just not about simplicity.
    There's Nothing Easy About Simplicity
This is my third time through this book by Mr.Foster. The audio book is wonderful, but I find myself pressing the pause button frequently. This is one of the finest examplrs of Christian theology available.
    Recommended listening
Provoking, insightful, and well narrated. Recommended listening for anyone wanting to consider what it means practically to seek God's kingdom first.

"But Christians have responded by making "Christians", not "disciples". This, according to brilliant scholar and renowned Christian thinker Dallas Willard, has been the church's Great Omission.
    Critic Reviews:
"Dallas Willard is a brilliant, modest, immensely experienced Christian older brother, calling to us." (Christianity Today)
    Members Reviews:
    A Rare Read
Mortimer J. Adler, in his classic How to Read a Book, refers to those few, very rare books that are well worth reading over and over. This is without reservation one of those rare gems. And not just to read, but to use as a faithful compass. Willard gathers and synthesizes millennia of the most cogent wisdom in the practical matter of following Jesus as He intended to be followed.
Transform in Christ or conform to Christianity?
One need only attend many local churches for any length of time to see why many find no use for church, or Christianity as most have experienced it. How deeply sad. I encourage all not to dismiss Christ based on the poor representation of some. He is most worthy of worship and truly amazing to know.
    Would like it in print
I enjoyed listening to this book and feel it was beneficial for a better understanding of how to effect the great commission. He describes spiritual formation and its benefits, though more in theory with references to other sources on the disciplines. Basically, it helped me realize why I often just want to spend more time with Jesus and feel uneasy about evangelism the way I learned it 15 years ago.
The print version would be nice to make it easier to review and reference certain parts. In reality, I would have trouble getting though the whole book in print, though, so I enjoy listening even if I may not get as deep of an understanding. The audio version is very well done, so I think it depends on what you have more time for.
Am I Christian enough to make it to heaven?
I have always wondered that! Haven't you? Then there's the nagging question, what if one of my kids should be killed. Will I see them in eternity?
Many churchgoers just make the assumption
Just make the assumption that attending church and having gone forward once to except Christ as Savior is enough to get them there. If you own a home, but didn't take the time to open the envelope, read over the agreement, sign, Enclose a check, and mail the insurance agreement back to the insurance company, you'll have only yourself to blame if the house burns down the insurance carrier declines your claim.
A solid understanding of this book is more important than that! Get it! Read it! Do it! And get it into the hands of anybody you Love!
    Comprehensively tackling the luke-warm problem
Willard explains brilliantly how there is a modern day problem of merely believing but not following Jesus. He comprehensively uses scripture as well as life examples to explore and offer remedies for this problem. He does this all while staying centered on our own personal need to be relating to God and trusting him within our own hearts and minds vs. is trying to fix this problem on our own.

    Not what I expected
    Any additional comments?
I was expecting a book more about Moses and less about the author's thoughts. I only made it to chapter 4 before I started looking for a book that's actually about Moses.
    Moses
He was a humble God's chosen man! He had been obeying God but yet not perfect the he let his temper caused him to sin. He had been living in an isolation after he killed one of the Egyptian authorities for a very long years till God called while he was living in a desert.
Identifiable, my life in a land the I was not born to but I have to live in by my status of marriage, I have often need to learn the patience and wait on God just as Moses waited and had to endure all things.
    Excellent History of Moses
the narration was dry but the book was written very well. I love the history and the call to obedience!
    lived it.
Great story by a very good narrator. Informative, funny and respectful for the story line.
    NOT ANOUT MOSES
This is about the author and his thoughts. It's a very long, boring, book. I had to quit listening cause it would not hold my attention, even while laying in bed.

    Powerful, intelligent, insightful
Spurgeon presents a powerful, intelligent, and insightful call to be reconciled to God and find true life. Direct, thought-provoking, heart-penetrating, passionate, and loving without compromise. Vance is excellent in his narration - with tone and cadence that demonstrates understanding of the author's intent, that illuminates the text, and that adds value to the experience. If God is in control of everything, does that mean the Christian can sit back and not bother to evangelize? Or does active evangelism simply imply that God is not sovereign at all? J.I. Packer shows in this classic study how false both these attitudes are. In a careful review of the biblical evidence, he shows how a right understanding of God's sovereignty is not so much a barrier to evangelism as an incentive and powerful support for it.

    Publisher: christianaudio.com
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 189 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
In 1962, Don and Carol Richardson risked their lives to share the gospel with the Sawi people of New Guinea. Peace Child tells their unforgettable story of living among these headhunters and cannibals who valued treachery through fattening victims with friendship before the slaughter. God gave Don and Carol the key to the Sawi hearts via a redemptive analogy from their own mythology.
The peace child became the secret to unlocking a value system that existed through generations over centuries, possibly millenniums, of time. This analogy became a stepping-stone by which the gospel came into the Sawi culture and started both a spiritual and a social revolution from within.
With an epilogue updating how the gospel has impacted the Sawi people, Peace Child will inspire a new generation of readers who need to hear this unforgettable story and the lessons it teaches us about communicating Christ in a meaningful way to those around us.

    Great first-hand missionary account
I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. If you would like to hear a first-hand account from what it is like to be a Christian missionary to a jungle people who may kill you, this is it.
At times it tells the story from the viewpoint of the Sawi people, how they interpreted the world around them, and what the arrival of the missionaries meant to them. It is told in a way in which you can understand their amazement. At other times the missionaries relate their thoughts about their experiences -- their understanding of God's calling for them to preach the Gospel to these people, their love of the Sawi people, the challenges of communication, the personal danger to their family, and the wonderment of how God would eventually work out His purpose through an amazing turn of events.
I was especially amazed at the redemptive analogies the missionaries discovered in the Sawi culture that turned out to be the key to their acceptance of the Gospel message. How do you witness to a people who hold up treachery as an ideal, who "fatten friends for slaughter", and consider Judas to be a hero? Read it and find out.
I thought the narrator did an excellent job. His voice is clear and authoritative, and he didn't stumble on any of the difficult Sawi language terms that were included in the book. At least, not that I could tell!
I highly recommend this book. It will be one that I will listen again.
    AMAZING
This is a must read! The narration is amazing! I have listen to many audio tapes and this is by far the best!

Have you listened to any of Simon Vances other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but I did really enjoy his narration. He carries a great deal of authority, but maintains great accessibility. I imagine him as an older college professor that offers coffee to his students and no excuses for apathy.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I didn't laugh or cry, though my reaction to this book was still significant. Just after listening to the introduction I felt a huge constriction in my chest release. The sense of relief that another was thinking and conversing about these things was immense.
    Any additional comments?
Though I would say first that the discussions in this book are very accessible to both avid readers and the just curious, I must caution that Wright does not shy from his intellectual and academic background. My father is a deep thinker, but not much of a reader. I thought of him often as I listened. Most of the book would have been very enjoyable and interesting to him, but I fear much still would be lost because of the scholastic tone and nature of the content.
