The battle for the crown has begun, but which of the three sisters will prevail?
With the unforgettable events of the Quickening behind them and the Ascension Year underway, all bets are off. Katharine, once the weak and feeble sister, is stronger than ever before. Arsinoe, after discovering the truth about her powers, must figure out how to make her secret talent work in her favor without anyone finding out. And Mirabella, once thought to be the strongest sister of all and the certain Queen Crowned, faces attacks like never before - ones that put those around her in danger she can't seem to prevent.
In this enthralling sequel to Kendare Blake's New York Times best-selling Three Dark Crowns, Fennbirn's deadliest queens must face the one thing standing in their way of the crown: each other.

One Murder Attempt after the other...
So... basically almost all the world building was done in book one, and this one is almost pure action. It's Ascension Year and the queens are trying to kill each other, because apparently that's what sisters do here. It hasn't been explained exactly why the goddess needs one sister to kill the other two, but it's basically just how it is here.
It's easier to pick a queen as a villain in this book as Katharine has gone completely off the deep end after her boyfriend/love pushed her into a pit in an attempt to kill her a 'more human' way. She pulls a complete 180 in her personality and goes full on pyscho on... basically everyone.
Mirabella and Arsinoe have an epic little team up along with Jules - who it turns out is a bit more powerful than we thought.
This book is one murder attempt after another, and there's even more blood as people are shot, poisoned, stabbed and just generally murdered (either successfully or not). There's some horror elements in here (because that Breccia Domain thing...) as well, so this one is even less for the faint at heart.
I definitely recommend this one, especially if you soldiered through the rather slow part (the first 80%) of the first book, this one is your reward.
Amazing
I absolutely loved it, that ending was not what I was expecting but it makes me want more. The best boom I have read in a while
Murder, Lies, and Secrets... PG version
Thank the Goddess this book has some action. It saves the series for me. Unlike Book 1, we get a faster pace and some actual murders. Now I don't mean Die Hard or John Wick type action, but a good number of fights, a dual, and a mini escape scene.
The sisters are fully engaged in the Accession year. One for revenge, one to stay alive, and one because she is now nuts. As expected, their plans to kill each other don't always go as expected.
The oldest, Mirabelle, is the only one with real magic. She is also the most sentimental of the three. She actually still loves her sisters. She is the sister the other characters in the book seem to root for.
The middle sister, Arinsoe, is the one the author seems to push as her favorite. She spends tge most time writing on this character and her companions. One thing I like about her is her self acceptance. So many books put too much value in their characters being "Beautiful". I'm proud of the other for bringing to life a character in, Aaa, who can be strong minded despite the destruction of her facial appearance.
