A Terrific account of our Favorite Celebrities
I just finished reading CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE CELEBRITY KIND and it was a book that I read straight through to the end. Brian has met such interesting celebrities and showed their kind side(and NOT so kind side). Being the grandson of a famous celebrity(Eddie Cantor, my PERSONAL favorite) doesn't enter into it because Brian is a talented performer and songwriter in his own right. He's paid his dues in show biz on his own. ALOT of the celebrities he has known because of his famous family, Janet Cantor Gari and his dad Roberto Gari, a very talented performer AND painter, BUT....it ends there. He has come across alot of these folks by happenstance and by setting up meetings with them and NOT being a "fan-boy". BUT, being in the business helped too. He has treated each person he writes about with the respect they deserve. My favorite chapter is about George Carlin. We also know that George made his fame by being a bit "blue", but Brian shows a very kind and compassionate side of him. Carlin saw the talent that Brian had when others did not. He was Brian's biggest supporter. A very perceptive entertainer. Each story has a beginning, a middle, and an end to it. It's not an "I met so and so at a party" kind of encounter. These are people who had a profound impact on his life. And alot of them have been very kind, especially to a total stranger, who Brian was to them. He very rarely if ever pulled out the Eddie Cantor trump card. He met them because he persevered and won these people over on his own merits. And besides....being persistant and writing to them also helped.
I just wish that he would put together a second volume in the future.....after he's had MORE "Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind". I guarantee that you'll NOT be able to put the book down. It's an easy to read book and his writing has a S-M-O-O-T-H style to it. Now....finish reading this and GO BUY IT!
A Wonderful Read!
Back in October for my birthday, Brian Gari gifted me with his new book, Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind. Thanksgiving rolled around and he asked me if I read the book. Embarrassed that I hadnât yet, I dug right in that very night and was instantly hooked!
I marvelled at Brianâs recollections of his dauntless pursuit of some of his favorite entertainers and song writers and how he ignited their interest with his vast knowledge and appreciation for their work.
