Publisher's Summary:
A fast, gritty, durable player who could read a basketball floor as well as anyone who ever played the game, John Stockton left the NBA after 19 seasons with the Utah Jazz, holding a massive assist record, including the career mark (15,806). He also twice led the league in steals - with a career total of 3,265 - and retired as the NBA's all-time leader. And during Stockton's career, the Jazz never missed the playoffs.
Coach Frank Layden said, "Nobody thought that he was going to be this good. Nobody. But the thing was, nobody measured his heart."
John's autobiography, Assisted, pulls back the curtain on his very personal life to show fans a thoughtful recounting of the people, places, and events that have connected with John along his path of extraordinary success. This book clearly illustrates the importance of his family, his faith, and his unparalleled competitive spirit.
Critic Reviews:
"An unlikely icon whose small-town values led him to take on NBA stardom on his terms." (John Blanchette, columnist, The Spokesman-Review)
"The intensely private basketball star gives readers a truly unique look at his career and his relationships with those who helped him along the way." (Steve Luhm, columnist, Salt Lake Tribune)
"If you thought you knew the Hall of Fame basketball player, the answer is yes and no." (Brad Rock, columnist, Deseret News)

Amazing!!
I loved every minute of John Stocktons narrative of his career and life during his time in the NBA. He is an amazing person, and I hope anyone who loves the game of basketball, or anyone who just loves a good story will take the time to listen from the man himself. You will not regret it!!
Very good book!
Great book, especially for NBA fans of his era. I was pleasantly surprised that Stockton is actually an excellent narrator- particularly for being an introvert. Overall, the book shows the importance of pursuing excellence while maintaining a good life balance. Solid read/listen.
Enjoyable biography
This is a great book, it is also a great audio book. John does great in writing and narrating. I am a huge fan.
The Most Boring Book I've Finished
John Stockton is an upstanding guy. He loves his family, community, and nation. He rarely does anyone wrong and often minds his own business. He is the neighbor you wish you had, but not the neighbor you need. The neighbor you need is one who will be your friend and support you, John Stockton will not. He's far too busy making sure his shoe laces are sufficently tight and that he never imposes on anyone. If he hadn't played basketball, he'd likely never had interacted with anyone outside of his family.
This book is extremely boring. There is nothing inspiring or interesting in this book. I endured because I am a Jazz fan and used to be a fan of John Stockton. I can't say that I like John anymore. Don't meet your heros, they'll only disappoint you.
A must read
Although I wasn't a giant John Stockton fan during his playing days because he and "the Mailman" defeated my Rockets so many crucial times. But I ALWAYS respected and appreciated John's talents. After reading this incredible book, I've become a tremendous fan. He is so humble and is such a great family man! It now makes me proud to have watched his entire career and the type of man he is comes though throughout the book.
