Inspiring Story of a Strong woman
Fabulous true life story of the work it takes to fulfill one's promise and following one's passion. Save the Rain Forrest!
    Amazing
This book shows you the life and struggles she went through and makes me understand her so much better as a designer!!
The story of bar fights to couture. Great book.
I never knew a lot of the fashion world until I started studying fashion in college. Vivienne Westwood is one of my icons in the industry.
    Mother of Punk
If fashion and fashion histories appeal to you and if the history of Punk appeals to you, you'll get a kick out of this. I have learned so much I didn't know. The reading is very well done although at times confusing when you can't tell if she's quoting Vivienne or someone else.
    Compelling and inspiring
Would you consider the audio edition of Vivienne Westwood to be better than the print version?
The narrator was so good, often I thought I was listening to Vivienne Westwood speaking.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Vivienne's tales of hard graft, fashion and revolution is utterly compelling.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yep. I didn't listen to the radio for a week. At the very least this is a really interesting tale, with shocks and laughs aplenty. I also found the messages in the story to be invigorating and an invitation to value my own brain and feed it with better quality information and ideas.
The only obvious down side is in an audio version there are no pictures, but the descriptions of her buffalo phase and pirates collection are quite visual anyway.
    Any additional comments?
    It's ace. Go for it.

    Publisher's Summary:
Following on from his hugely successful books, Moab is My WashpotandThe Fry Chronicles, comes the third chapter in Stephen Fry's life. This unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of More Fool Me is performed by Stephen Fry himself.
    Editorial Reviews:
    Praise for The Fry Chronicles:
"Heartbreaking, a delight, a lovely, comfy book". (The Times)
"Perfect prose and excruciating honesty. A grand reminiscence of college and theatre and comedyland in the 1980s, with tone-perfect anecdotes and genuine readerly excitement. What Fry does, essentially, is tell us who he really is. Above all else, a thoughtful book. And namedroppy too, and funny, and marbled with melancholy." (Observer)
    Members Reviews:
And more fool me for buying it.
I'm a fan of Stephen Fry and really enjoyed the first two volumes of his autobiography but this was a huge disappointment. He phoned it in. The majority of the book is spent bringing us up to date - OK, I understand the need to go over old ground - and reading from the diary he kept as he rushed madly around London snorting coke and hanging out with nearly every name he could possibly drop (not those he was sharing his coke with of course, that would be beyond the pale). This book doesn't advance us very far through his life and although he obviously had a serious drug habit we don't get the sense of how this was affecting his everyday life. The diary entries don't cut it. Pardon the pun.
Probably not worth it if you've read the others
What did you like best about More Fool Me? What did you like least?
Stephen Fry's performance is good, but the book seems slightly rushed and contains lots of 'filler'.
The book is almost split in to varying thirds:
    - First third: Going over details and stories from the previous 2 books.
    - Second third: Some new info and anecdotes (although a lot of them I'd already heard on various tv shows and during promotional stuff for the book).
    - Final third: Just reading from his diary. No newly written content. While some of the stories were interesting, I'm not too bothered about what SF had for breakfast/lunch/dinner/drinks and when he went to bed on any given day.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
More anecdotes and original writing. Less goign over old stuff and just reading from old diaries.
What about Stephen Frys performance did you like?
    Excellent, as always.
Do you think More Fool Me needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes, but not yet, and in a format more similar to the first two books.
    Good start but poor end
I very much enjoy Stephen Fry's books, but only enjoyed the first 2/3 of this one. The remainder is a very long and repetitious diary extract when could have been wrapped up in a few pages. Too much illustration of why the book is so tiitled
    Extremely entertaining
Wonderful book. Full summation of previous delights. Highly recommended. Wonderful insights of life from a delightful mind.
another gorgeously written book by Fry
One of the kindest, sweetest, most ethical, gentle and fascinating human beings on the planet talking more about his life. A wordsmith it is a pleasure to listen to, even as you cringe at his self loathing. Stephen Fry, you are a legend and we love you xx

    Extraordinary
The luck of the Irish? Hey charmed life, absolutely. A harmed life, most definitely.
A heroes journey of epic proportions, yes indeed. As entertaining as a one night stand with God.
    Interesting, easy to listen to
I enjoyed this audio book. It was interesting to listen to Mr. O'Brien's struggle with his sobriety as well as how he started. I very good insider view into the battle that goes on in the mind of an addict. A perspective that one may not see on the outside of a person with the same struggles

    Wonderful insight for women
A group of women simply discussing living a faithful life directly from the rules and lessons from the Bible. I enjoy listening to Korie in audio books. Simple, the only term you really need when it comes to living life well.
love the women of duck dynasty
I found this very inspiring as I have with the other books. thank you. your faith helps renew mine.
    Impressive women
Uplifting look inside the lives of the Duck Dynasty world. Through the good and bad these women grew to the impressive set of inspiring, God fearing women we see today.
    Hard working ladies!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
It is a culmination of all the duck wives struggles and triumphs making them very relatable. I kind of feel like they are my friends now. They struggle like everyone else except we get to see their blunders and they don't see ours.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Women of Duck Commander?
One of the most memorable moments was the part Miss Kay says she was so sad and depressed she locked herself in the bathroom, hopeless. However she heard her children's voices telling her not to cry and see that God gave her strength to put up with Phil and wait for the storms to pass.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Wives hang by their toes from duck blinds??
    More inspiring than I imagined
I didn't know what to expect, but I really enjoyed it! Each of the women had an inspiring story. I'm glad God has provided them with this opportunity to share their faith and stories of the power of God.

    Title: Cycle of Lies
Subtitle: The Fall of Lance Armstrong
    Author: Juliet Macur

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 31 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-18-14
    Publisher: HarperAudio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 219 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
The definitive account of Lance Armstrong's spectacular rise and fall.
In June 2013, when Lance Armstrong fled his palatial home in Texas, downsizing in the face of multimillion-dollar lawsuits, Juliet Macur was there - talking to his girlfriend and children and listening to Armstrong's version of the truth. She was one of the few media members aside from Oprah Winfrey to be granted extended one-on-one access to the most famous pariah in sports.
At the center of Cycle of Lies is Armstrong himself, revealed through face-to-face interviews.
But this unfolding narrative is given depth and breadth by the firsthand accounts of more than 100 witnesses, including family members whom Armstrong had long since turned his back on - the adoptive father who gave him the Armstrong name, a grandmother, an aunt. Perhaps most damning of all is the taped testimony of the late J. T. Neal, the most influential of Armstrong's many father figures, recorded in the final years of Neal's life as he lost his battle with cancer just as Armstrong gained fame for surviving the disease.
In the end, it was Armstrong's former friends, those who had once occupied the precious space of his inner circle, who betrayed him. They were the ones who dealt Armstrong his fatal blow by breaking the code of silence that shielded the public from the grim truth about the sport of cycling - and the grim truth about its golden boy, Armstrong.
Threading together the vivid and disparate voices of those with intimate knowledge of the private and public Armstrong, Macur weaves a comprehensive and unforgettably rich tapestry of one man's astonishing rise to global fame and fortune and his devastating fall from grace.
    Members Reviews:
    ...Pants on Fire
First of all, bravo to Macur, not only for her excellent job of journalism here, but for having the balls to stand up to Armstrong's cocky insistence, "You can write what you want, but your book is called Cycle of Lies? That has to change!" Evidently, the fallen, self-aggrandizing demigod is still juiced up on a cocktail of arrogance, bullying, moral relativism, and egotism. I'm more fascinated than disgusted -- as long as I don't have a full stomach. I'm also fascinated by Pete Rose, Bernie Madoff, the Emperor's new parade outfit, Presidents that scrutinize what the meaning of the word 'is' is, and anyone that has to have Oprah Winfrey clarify the word *cheater*.
Oprah: You did not feel that you were cheating taking banned drugs?
Armstrong: I went in and just looked up the definition of cheat. And the definition of cheat is to gain an advantage on a rival or foe that they don't have. I didn't view it that way. I viewed it as a level playing field.
Almost everything that has come out of this guy's mouth since he was finally cornered and force fed the irrefutable evidence, is a toxic sound bite arguing the case against there being even a miniscule glimmer of remorse, enlightenment, or humility within.
Cycle of Lies (nee-ner-nee-ner-nee-ner) is a *fascinating* and wonderfully researched book that rises above previous points of view and factoid pieces of work, setting some records straight, and obliterating others.

Writing with an exuberant love of language and detail, Anjelica Huston shares her enchanted childhood in Ireland, her teen years in London, and her coming of age as a model and nascent actress in New York.
John Huston was filming The African Queen - in the Belgian Congo - when he received a telegram from his wife announcing the birth of a healthy baby girl. She named her Anjelica, after her mother.
Now, the magnificent Academy Award-winning actress shares the story of her deeply unconventional life. Living with her glamorous and artistic mother, educated by tutors and nuns, intrepid on a horse, Huston was raised on an Irish estate to which - between movies - her father brought his array of extraordinary friends, from Carson McCullers and John Steinbeck to Peter OToole and Marlon Brando. Every morning, Anjelica and her brother visited their father while he took his breakfast in bed. "What news?" hed ask. "Id seen him the night before," Anjelica recalls, "There wasnt much to report." So she became a storyteller.
In London, where she lives with her mother and brother in the early Sixties when her parents separate, Huston encounters the Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac. She understudies Marianne Faithful in Hamlet. Seventeen, striking, precocious, but still young and vulnerable, she is devastated when her mother dies in a car crash.
Months later she moves to New York, falls in love with the much older, brilliant but disturbed photographer, Bob Richardson, and becomes a model. Living in the Chelsea Hotel, working with Richard Avedon and other photographers, she navigates a volatile relationship and the dynamic cultural epicenter of New York in the Seventies.

    Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 92 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
Beloved actress and bestselling author Shirley MacLaine contemplates a wealth of subjects from the mundane to the esoteric in this all-new collection of musings that begin with two simple words: What if...
What if hope is the most dangerous emotion?
What if a frog had wings? (Answer: He wouldnt bump his ass so much.)
What if our political leaders actually led?
What if Downton Abbey was full of Americans?
What if, for some reason, I couldn't be creative and work?
These are just a few of the what ifs that Shirley MacLaine considers in her new book written in the style of her beloved and laugh-out-loud memoir Im Over All That. In What If..., she speculates on a wide range of matters both spiritual and secular, humorous and profound, earthbound and high-flying, personal and universal. This is Shirley MacLaine at her most funny, acerbic, imaginative, and irresistible.
    Members Reviews:
    Very relatable!
Fun, interesting, and relatable. I want to say "Me too!" constantly!
She's not "out there". She's "In there".
    EXCELLENCE!
Shirley MacLaine did a beautiful job introducing an enormous amount of information; covering many and various subjects/topics - and touching on most.
A book well written & read by the eccentric author ; which is almost as impressive, to me, as the contents. I LOVE her no-nonsense interaction with life in general and people in particular. she is an icon who will enhance anyone's life who is (even a little bit ) interested in spiritually evolving ... or just waking from the dream state. I have been intrigued by her since the movie "Some Came Running", because I observed a diamond in the rough becoming polished; which she stripped & sanded over the years to become REAL! And appear to be polished when neccessary.
Shirley MacLaine is, in my opinion, the most versatile, open, honest, secure, talented and aware person I have ever observed.
The only thing I have left on my "bucket list" is to meet her.
This book is only one of her many excellent pieces of art.
If I had to choose one thing to say about this book it would be this:
I was looking for intertainment (a break from listening to and reading hundreds of serious 'self-help' and esoteric books) and what I received is both!
What If..: I really enjoy this Book?
What did you love best about What If...?
Shirley is an excellent actress and it comes through in her audible books.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Shirley tells her own life story in a fascinating and intriguing way.
Have you listened to any of Shirley MacLaines other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to three of Shirley's earlier works and this one was my favorite.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I enjoy Shirley's candid insight into the behind the scenes look at the Hollywood elite.
    Gratitude to Ms. MacLaine
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and getting to know her history. Such an intelligent and mindful delight! I feel so much more enlightened and educated, aware thanks to her. It will stay with me a lifetime no doubt. Her courage to be an individual is so admirable for someone like me who is constantly striving to get to my true self and stay there in peace.

From the founders of the international health-care behemoth Johnson & Johnson in the late 1800s to the contemporary Johnsons of today, such as billionaire New York Jets owner Robert Wood "Woody" Johnson IV, all is revealed in this scrupulously researched, unauthorized biography by New York Times best-selling author Jerry Oppenheimer.
Often compared to the Kennedy clan because of the tragedies and scandals that had befallen both wealthy and powerful families, Crazy Rich, based on scores of exclusive, candid, on-the-record interviews, reveals how the dynasty's vast fortune was both intoxicating and toxic through the generations of a family that gave the world Band-Aids and Baby Oil
    Critic Reviews:
"Oppenheimer follows the clan of dysfunctional Band-Aid and baby-powder millionaires through the adulterous affairs, ugly divorces, drug and alcohol addictions, tragic accidents, suicide attempts, paternity disputes, will contests, and other turmoil as the family reaps the rewards of inheritance through privilege, opulence, and excess, for better and for worse." Terrible Narration
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I just enjoyed listening to Fortune's Children (about the Vanderbilts) and looked forward to this book. The story seems promising, but the narration was awful. The reader was completely unmodulated - everything was rapid and at an uncomfortable pitch - rather like a tv furniture store ad. I'm returning it - couldn't get more that 4 chapters in.
What other book might you compare Crazy Rich to and why?
Fortune's Children about the Vanderbilt family, in the subject matter.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Michael Prichard?
    Frankly, anyone.
    Narrator sounds bored
The story is fascinating but the narrator sounds like he's jaded and bored which made it difficult for me to finish the whole book
