    Audible's description inaccurate
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The Audible description says that Si Robertson is the narrator of this audio book. Si's voice is on the introduction or forward but his "nephew in law" narrated everything else. I'm certainly not going to criticize any of Si's family but I was looking forward to hearing Si's voice.Audible does need to correct the information about who actually narrated the book.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Si Robertson?
I would prefer that Si actually be narrator of the book. No one can replace him.Audible needs to correct the information on the description.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Why? It is already on A&E.
    Any additional comments?
The program would have been better if Si had narrated the whole book rather than just the introduction or forward. He could have been promised a nap and fresh iced tea between chapters!
PREACH SI! 6 out of 5 stars JACK!
What did you love best about Si-cology 1?
I really enjoyed how the story was laid out for the listener. Unlike other books of this nature that drag on endlessly until a conclusion that is beyond lackluster, in his book you can almost see whats going to happen, but at the same time the outcome (which you may already know) is viewed in an entirely different light. I also liked how this wasn't just a make it rich quick sell it why it's hot type book. It also lays out how Si isn't a character fabricated by a grad school producer.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The obvious answer to most would be Si and he is high on my list, but his wife Christine sounds like an awesome woman who endured a lot physically, mentally, and emotionally.

It Takes Guts to Share a Story Like This
This book is quite possibly the most candid book I've ever experienced. That Claudia Christian narrates the audiobook herself makes it feel that much more personal, and that much more powerful. On Babylon 5, her character Susan Ivanova is tougher-than-nails, the left hand of God and vengeance personified when the call arises. The actress behind the character... she's much tougher by necessity, and all too human, just like the rest of us.
Everyone has that personal chink in the armor, the Achilles' Heel to which we can fall prey. She found hers, and this book is an amazing chronicle of her battle with what she calls her inner monster. The book is intense and as relatable as a tale like this can be. It's not for the squeamish, but it is one for pretty much anyone who doesn't live that fairy tale perfect life. At its core, which she reminds us up front, this is a story of hope.
While I myself am not an alcoholic, I found the details to be particularly enlightening as to what that kind of thing really is like, and in the sharing, I felt like I was given a boost to my own fight against my own personal demons. We all have an addiction to something, even if we aren't aware of it, and even if it seems minor by comparison of others. I'm in the midst of battling with mine. This came along at exactly the right time, which is perhaps why I'm biased towards a higher rating, but I just can't give anything less than the highest mark for a person who bared her soul to the world in this way. A book like this is courage incarnate.
    well written.
Wise and funny and thougt awakening. Could not stop listening. Happy that the author was the narrator in the audio book.
    Taming The Monster
Truth about addiction is hard to come by especially when you think you are hiding it so well. This is a very open and honest look at what addiction can do to our lives. I appreciate her courage for sharing her truth because abuse tried to stay hidden creating the monster. I also admire her for reaching out to others to try and help with their monsters.

    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
A deeply misunderstood sports legend, once the most hated and loved man in America, gets his due in this absorbing, revelatory biography.
Howard Cosell was one of the most recognizable and controversial figures in American sports history. His colorful bombast, fearless reporting, and courageous stance on civil rights soon captured the attention of listeners everywhere. No mere jock turned "pretty-boy" broadcaster, the Brooklyn-born Cosell began as a lawyer before becoming a radio commentator. "Telling it like it is", he covered nearly every major sports story for three decades, from the travails of Muhammad Ali to the tragedy at Munich. Featuring a sprawling cast of athletes such as Jackie Robinson, Sonny Liston, Don Meredith, and Joe Namath, Howard Cosell also re-creates the behind-the-scenes story of that American institution, Monday Night Football. With more than 40 interviews, Mark Ribowsky presents Cosell's life as part of an American panorama, examining racism, anti-Semitism, and alcoholism, among other sensitive themes. Cosell's endless complexities are brilliantly explored in this haunting work that reveals as much about the explosive commercialization of sports as it does about a much-neglected media giant.

Cosell and Controversary Walked Hand in Hand
Author Mark Ribowsky has treated the readers of this book with an in-depth biography of the much-maligned sportscaster Howard Cosell. To those of us old enough to remember Howard he was involved in a number of noteworthy events during his four decades of being a public figure. I remember his Speaking of Sports program on WABC radio in New York City. When Milwaukee Judge Elmer Roller briefly suspended the Braves' move to Atlanta Howard came on like gangbusters with, "Hello again, everyone. Howard Cosell Speaking of Sports. In the headlines this morning the National League meets in New York with feelings raging from chagrin to chaos. Details after this meassage." The things that stick in my mind.
Howard Cosell is primarily remembered for his role in boxing and Monday Night Football. His relationship with Muhammad Ali was something very special, and author Ribowsky does a very commendable job in bringing that to the forefront. Howard's call on George Foreman's decking of Joe Frazier with, "Down goes Frazier, down goes Frazier, down goes Frazier" is often imitated, and his final three words spoken on the death of John Lennon, "Dead on arrival" during a Monday Night Football game is equally memorable. Howard took the advice of fellow announcer Frank Gifford to make the announcement. The Monday night trio of Howard, Frank Gifford, and Don Meredith turned Monday night into a special event that often upstaged the game itself. The travails that involved this trio are also included in the book.
In addition to boxing and football Cosell was involved in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics along with the Olympics of 1972 in which eleven Israeli athletes were murdered by a faction of the PLO in Munich, Germany. ABC announcer Jim McKay spoke the legendary words, "They're all gone." ABC Sports boss Roone Arledge made the correct call in denying Cosell's insistence of going on the air to vent his feelings.

You are never down and out unless you think you are
Inspiring to learn Downey's story. Even the challenging times in our lives have purpose and his life proves that. Met Robert twice and now actually understand why there is a glow when you are around him. If you like him as an actor, after listening to the book, you will admire Robert even more as a person. The book is entertaining and motivational.
    A Roller Coaster Ride
I was amazed of RDJ's, one of my favorite actors to date; roller coaster ride through life. There are "highs", lows, and a lot of loops. He is a great example of how anyone can hit rock bottom more than once, claw their way out, reform their life, and really prosper in a way that you can see their light; RDJ's light is bright.
I've seen and grown up with most of the films he's been in and was blown away to learn about his personal life and all the crap he's been through.
The narrator is perfect for this bio and really helped to keep me engaged in the story. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who's a fan and not a fan of RDJ.

    Title: A Curious Man
Subtitle: The Strange and Brilliant Life of Robert 'Believe It or Not!' Ripley

Length: 11 hrs and 56 mins

    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 60 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
A Curious Man is the marvelously compelling biography of Robert Believe It or Not Ripley, the enigmatic cartoonist turned globetrotting millionaire who won international fame by celebrating the world's strangest oddities, and whose outrageous showmanship taught us to believe in the unbelievable.
As portrayed by acclaimed biographer Neal Thompson, Ripleys life is the stuff of a classic American fairy tale. Buck-toothed and cursed by shyness, Ripley turned his sense of being an outsider into an appreciation for the strangeness of the world. After selling his first cartoon to Time magazine at age eighteen, more cartooning triumphs followed, but it was his Believe It or Not conceit and the wildly popular radio shows it birthed that would make him one of the most successful entertainment figures of his time and spur him to search the globes farthest corners for bizarre facts, exotic human curiosities, and shocking phenomena.
Ripley delighted in making outrageous declarations that somehow always turned out to be true - such as that Charles Lindbergh was only the sixty-seventh man to fly across the Atlantic or that The Star Spangled Banner was not the national anthem. Assisted by an exotic harem of female admirers and by ex-banker Norbert Pearlroth, a devoted researcher who spoke eleven languages, Ripley simultaneously embodied the spirit of Peter Pan, the fearlessness of Marco Polo and the marketing savvy of P. T. Barnum.
In a very real sense, Ripley sought to remake the worlds aesthetic. He demanded respect for those who were labeled eccentrics or freaks - whether it be E. L. Blystone, who wrote 1,615 alphabet letters on a grain of rice, or the man who could swallow his own nose.
By the 1930s Ripley possessed a vast fortune, a private yacht, and a 28 room mansion stocked with such oddities as shrunken heads and medieval torture devices, and his pioneering firsts in print, radio, and television were tapping into something deep in the American consciousness - a taste for the titillating and exotic, and a fascination with the fastest, biggest, dumbest and most weird. Today, that legacy continues and can be seen in reality TV, YouTube, Americas Funniest Home Videos, Jackass, MythBusters and a host of other pop-culture phenomena. In the end Robert L. Ripley changed everything. The supreme irony of his life, which was dedicated to exalting the strange and unusual, is that he may have been the most amazing oddity of all.
    Critic Reviews:
"A Curious Man is the rollicking, terrific story of one of Americas greatest menRipley brought back to an awed nation the richness of an endlessly exotic world, and Neal Thompson tells the story with a perfectly-pitched sense of what makes such a man, and a nation, tick."
--Peter Heller, New York Times bestselling author of The Dog Stars
The breathtaking life of a quintessential American: a Frankenstein monster stitched together with equal parts genius, bravado, insecurity, and propaganda. A master of oddities, Ripley himself was the purest form of his own collection and Neal Thompson is his wondrous exhibitor.
--Brad Meltzer, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Inner Circle
"Ralph Waldo Emerson once said that the history of a time can be resolved in the biography of a few stout and earnest people.

    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
Mike Piazzas autobiography - the candid story of the greatest hitting catcher in the history of baseball, from his inauspicious draft selection to his Hall of Fame-worthy achievements, and the unusual controversies that marked his career.
Mike Piazza was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 62nd round of the 1988 baseball draft as a "courtesy pick". The Dodgers never expected him to play for them - or anyone else. Mike had other ideas. Overcoming his detractors, he became the National League Rookie of the Year in 1993, broke the record for season batting average by a catcher, holds the record for career home runs at his position, and was selected as an All Star 12 times.
Mike was groomed for baseball success by his ambitious, self-made father in Pennsylvania, a classic father-son American-dream story. With the Dodgers, Piazza established himself as baseballs premier offensive catcher; but the team never seemed willing to recognize him as the franchise player he was. He joined the Mets and led them to the memorable 2000 World Series with their cross-town rivals, the Yankees. Mike tells the story behind his dramatic confrontation with Roger Clemens in that series. He addresses the steroid controversy that hovered around him and Major League Baseball during his time and provides valuable perspective on the subject. Mike also addresses the rumors of being gay and describes the thrill of his game-winning home run on September 21, 2001, the first baseball game played in New York after the 9/11 tragedy. Along the way, he tells terrific stories about teammates and rivals that baseball fans will devour.
Long Shot is told with insight, candor, humor, and charm. Its surprising and inspiring, one of the great sports autobiographies.

I loved the story of Ted Williams showing up in the Piazza driveway to watch a young Mike hit
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
How to build a future Hall of Fame catcher
    Any additional comments?
If you love Baseball, you owe it to yourself to use a credit to learn the real story of Mike Piazza. i really have a whole new respect for Mike now, and even before listening to this book he was my all time favorite catcher.
    An Inspiration For Everyone
    Any additional comments?
If you love baseball stories and overcoming adversity, this book is for you. He takes you from his early days hitting balls in his backyard right through the major league. Amazing how such a standout player can be overlooked by everyone in baseball, as he was drafted as a favor to his father in the 62nd round by the LA Dodgers. His hard work, perseverance, and belief in himself eventually carried the day. Mikes's language can be a little rough at times for very young readers, but it does fit the context of his story. I especially liked it because Mike is the narrator which makes it more personal. Aspiring young players will get a mental boost from listening to this program.
    Great book

  • Never Goin' Back Audiobook by Al Roker

    Title: Never Goin' Back
Subtitle: Winning the Weight-Loss Battle for Good
    Author: Al Roker
    Narrator: Al Roker
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 41 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-31-12
    Publisher: Penguin Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 90 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
Al Rokers aha! moment came a decade ago. He was closing in on 350 pounds when he promised his dying father that he wasnt going to keep living as he was. That led to his decision for a stomach bypass - and his life-changing drop to 190. But 50 of those pounds gradually crept back until he finally devised a plan, stuck to it, and got his life back.
Never Going Back is Rokers inspiring, candid, and often hilarious story of self-discovery, revealing a (now slimmer) side of his life that no one knows. With illuminating and sometimes painfully honest stories about his childhood (as the "husky" boy in class), his struggle against the odds to make something of himself, and his family life today, Roker reveals the effects that a lifelong battle with weight issues can have on a person - and how, regardless of the frustration and setbacks, you must never lose faith in yourself (just inches).
Al is telling his story to inspire others to lose the weight theyve always wanted to lose, keep it off for good, and regain their health. He knows firsthand that it is a day-to-day process and that unrealistic diets rarely work (he has tried most of them!). And, most important, he knows that losing weight is as much - if not more - a state of mind as of body. Thats why hes here: to recharge your willpower and see you through it like a friend - with warmth, humor, and a healthy new outlook on life.
    Members Reviews:
    Very inspiring
Al told his story in a way that you can identify with if you have a weight problem and even if you don't you learn something helpful in everyday life. I highly recomend this book.
Never Going Back After Gastric Bypass Surgery
I was looking for an inspiration tale of how someone took control of their life and beat their obesity. I would hope that anyone who has this surgery never goes back to being obese. Al is a wonderful fellow but I was expecting a superhuman feat. Not everyone could afford such a surgery.
    Spoke to Me
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I liked the way Al spoke as if we were sitting down talking together. His story was very personal. I got a lot of good information from his experiences. I have read this book several times because I relate to his situations and enjoy the antic dotes.
I was looking for info on the surgery
I am about to have the same procedure and was looking for more information on the surgery, the problems he encountered and how he overcame them. There just wasn't much on that.
    disappointed
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
For a guy with so much personality on air, he's a very boring narrator. I heard his interview on NPR. He was natural, compelling, fun and easy to listen to. But he brings very little of his personality into the narration.
I also got tired of hearing about his cleanse, complete with references to his related bodily functions. His humor is fine in quick little segments on tv, but gets old quick in this book. He's trying too hard to be funny and it becomes painful.
The book is at it's best when he's talking about his struggles and people's reactions, but it's boring and off-putting when he starts lecturing.
What could Al Roker have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The book needs editing. His story has moments we can all relate to and that's the part that is the most interesting.

    Publisher's Summary:
Now a major ITV drama series, Mr Selfridge is a tale of Edwardian excess and the rise and fall of maverick retailer Harry Gordon Selfridge. In 1909 London's first dedicated department store opened in a huge blaze of publicity. Zola called Selfridges a 'great cathedral of shopping', and its high priest was Harry Gordon Selfridge, father of modern retailing, philanderer, gambler, dandy and showman. Selfridge's talents were for shopping and seduction: and as his shop grew in success, so did his list of mansions, yachts, racehorses - and conquests. He lived through the turmoil of the First World War and the glittering excesses of the 1920s before losing millions at French gaming tables and being ousted from his store in 1939.
To this irrepressible man, 'the store was a theatre with the curtain going up at 9 o'clock': Mr Selfridge reveals the captivating story of what happened before the curtain fell.

    modern marketing 101
Where does Mr Selfridge rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Up at the top. It has been a while since I have listened to a book that both entertained and, informed me.
What did you like best about this story?
The book was a journey through turn of the 20th century England and, to an extent Europe and the US. Mr. Selfridge kept me on my toes as he did his staff and, the shoppers of a now forgotten age. Did you know that television was invented and indeed used in the 1930's. In Mr. Selfridtge I saw woman's fashion tuned on its head from a dress that did not dare show an ankle to one that barely covered necessities. Every time we are entertained by newpaper ads filled with the latest gadgets Harry Selfridge lives behind them. We can blame him as well for our forming wants rather than needs. It is also a cautionary tale as he skipped across the wild and extravagent jewel filled hedonistic life of his middle years to end up as an old man whose only riches were his memories. But what memories they were. Mr. Selfridge was a well loved and considerate boss but he never provided his employees with any sort of a retirement plan. He felt that they should each provide their own. He never followed his own advise. Harry Selfridge was in many, many respects not a nice man. He was one of the most complex individuals I have met in books for many a year.He was the little boy who was very, very good or horrid.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Too many favorites. The TV show cannot give the full extent of his escapades. I would have loved to have seen his office window which was signed with a diamond tipped pen. Every celebrity who visited his store signed the window. it was distroyed in a bombing in WW2.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, too much. Like eating a rich dessert all at once.
    Any additional comments?
If you like history and are fond of rogues this is the book for you. Kudos to suthor Woodhead for her excellent, tntensive research.
    Belén's Review
Was happy to hear what really happened in Mr. Selfridge's life in the book which was more detailed, of course than in the PBS Series. Overall it was done very very well. I was pleased that the story was told as honest as possible, and what lead me to that conclusion was when numerous times it was said, "nobody knew what was really going on in his mind".

    Publisher's Summary:
Film and television icon Gina Gershon may be best known for her movie roles in Bound and Showgirls and television appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm and How to Make It in America, but deep down she is a self-described cat lady. In Search of Cleo follows Ginas desperation and despair when her assistant loses her beloved cat, Cleo. Gina spends two months roaming the back streets of Los Angeles at all hours of the night, searching for Cleo and meeting several quirky and outrageous characters who help or hinder her in different ways, including Ellen DeGeneres, who searches with Gina and recommends her pet psychic, Sonia; Arthur, the newspaper delivery man who gives her advice; and the mysterious fortune-teller, who appears from the shadows to give her a statue of Saint Gertrude, the protector of cats everywhere.
Gina soon finds herself enmeshed in L.A.s strangest subcultures, doing everything she can to bring Cleo home, including chanting with a bunch of crystal-wielding hippies and being slapped with a chicken by a Santeria priest. Along the way, she reflects on the various cats that have been a part of her life and shares her travails as a single girl in search of both her cat and some sanity. In Search of Cleo will delight pet lovers and singletons alike as it introduces Cleo to the celebrated pantheon of literary cats that includes Dewey, Homer, and Oscar.

    Loved it!!!
This was great! A cat lover myself, I TOTALLY understand what she went through. My cat disappeared for three days and we walked everywhere looking for her. This story hit every emotion from A to Z. I highly recommend this book. Thank you for writing such a touching story.
    Good fun read!
What did you love best about In Search of Cleo?
Her crazy quest to get her cat back.
    Which scene was your favorite?
When she brought home the real Cleo.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When she cheated and slept with the olther cat.
    A Fun Listen
What did you like best about In Search of Cleo? What did you like least?
The best parts were her experiences in the back alleys of LA. I think she probably took some creative liberties with the characters but they were unique and their tales were interesting. I liked the musical interludes.
Would you recommend In Search of Cleo to your friends? Why or why not?
Sure, especially to my cat friends. Like the headline says, it's a fun read. I listened during my daily two hour commute and it kept my mind off the traffic.
Did Gina Gershon do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
She's a good narrator and she brought the characters out with her interpretations.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    Probably not.
    Quirky but fun read!
    Any additional comments?
Short but entertaining read. Ms. Gershon is naturally funny and that shines through her narration of the events leading to and involving the rescue effort of her cat, Cleo. The writing is down-to-earth and easy and the entertainment value just what you might need on a gray winter day. The quirky characters Gina ran into along the way of her quest sound like fiction but in Hollywood, totally believable. (I lived and worked there for many many years.)
I would recommend this book for the shear delight of a light and entertaining and genuinely funny "read." Thanks Gina!

    Great book
A very inspiring and motivating book, I only wish Arnold narrated the entire thing rather than just the beginning and ending.
Amazing. I wish I got the extended version!
Where does Total Recall rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Being the first of it's kind that I've listened to, I'm very pleased with the quality and layout of this product.
What did you like best about this story?
How it doesn't end, and when it does, you're stuck wondering "where's the rest of it, that can't be all that happened!"
    Any additional comments?
I was never a huge Arnold fan until I listened to this. Now I find myself needing to do more research into his life. I have to listen again for items I missed the first time, and go over all the lessons he insist you learn from this book. The last chapter really brings it home, the first chapter really lets you know why he is the way he is.
    Excellent
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would most definitely recommend this book. I grew up watching Arnold movies and always found his story interesting. My expectations of this book was that it would be something to fill the time, but I didnt expect it to be so captivating.
What about Stephen Lang and Arnold Schwarzenegger s performance did you like?
Stephen Lang has an excellent narrative voice for this book, although I more thoroughly enjoyed Arnold's voice.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I definitely found myself making time to enjoy it. Great book.
    Insightful
I will admit it: I came into this book because I wanted to hear Arnold Schwarzenegger narrate an audiobook. And while it was funny at first, I was soon hooked to the story of his rise to power. Stephen Lang, the primary narrator, covers most of the audiobook except the first and last couple of chapters.
    only partly Ah-Nuld
great story, of course. unfortunately, Arnold only reads a small part of the whole. Otherwise, it was thrilling.
