Members Reviews:
Fun, light read with a Christian twist.
Of the three novels that these authors have written, this one is by far my favorite. However, I'd like to note that I have enjoyed all three books because they are all funny and touching, with main characters who are Christians, but who have very real struggles with living in our secular culture. The characters are lovable because they are realistically flawed and are so easy for the reader to relate with.
While the plots of these three novels aren't terribly complicated, and are pretty straightforward, they are written in a refreshing way for Christian fiction, without following the standard outline, and that alone makes these books exceptional to read.
That being said, I really enjoyed "Emily Ever After", as, of the three novels these authors have written, it is the story I can most relate to. When you spend your whole life focused on achieving one thing, and you finally get it, you sometimes found out it's not exactly what you had envisioned it to be. But Emily, of course, makes the most of the situation and learns a lot about herself in the process.
My only qualm with the novel is that I wish there had been more talk about what she learned from and about God. I loved that she went through trials and did things that "Christians" aren't normally portrayed as doing in fiction... but I just wish that in the end the book had talked a little more about her faith. I suppose the purpose of that omission is to make the book more friendly to non-Christian readers, in which case, i guess it's perfectly acceptable to have left that discussion out of the book. This is a book that I would feel "safe" lending to non-Christian friends, which I can't say for too many Christian fiction book that i have read.

Good for teens
I thought this was a cute book. It was not super original or surprising, and in many ways felt a little generic; however, it was well paced, fun and had a happy romantic ending. I would put this book in the rom-com chick-lit categorie. I was a very quick read and would probably be enjoyed by preteen-teen girls. I appreciated the fact that all the content was clean (It didn't contain any sex or swear words) and I would feel comfortable recommending it to my little sister or moms of teens.
Quirky, perky fun -- well-written and thoughtful
I hate pigeon-holing books by category. "Emily Ever After" would have been just as successful had it been labeled something other than "Christian Chick Lit," but it wouldn't have had all of the baggage that goes with that stereotype. Instead, readers would have found -- as I have -- a wonderfully real, well-written, thoughtful story filled with sometimes outrageous humor, about a character whose life is worth reading about.
