Fascinating to learn about the Shakers
It was a good listen! Fascinating to learn their contributions to us all! Too bad they didn't consider all of Scripture in their beliefs!
    The Blessed: A Novel
This is the first book written by Ann Gaphart. The book is read well but I struggled keeping the interest in the book. It moved very slow and I found the story very unbelievable.

    Critic Reviews:
Speculative Christian fiction is rare, and Brouwer does it with the skills of an episodic storyteller that make a reader wonder when the movie is coming out. (Publishers Weekly)
Recommended for readers of visionary and science fiction and for larger Christian fiction collections. (Library Journal)
Sigmund Brouwer is one of my favorite authors. His versatility and the ease that he switches between genres and styles never cease to amaze me. (Melissa Willis, TheChristianManifesto.com)

    too much demonic
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
No, when the text included satanic prayers in latin read out loud i turned it off. it is probably extremely realistic - there is definitely demonic worship in the vatican, but i don't want to spend my time hearing about it.
    Any additional comments?
no verbal satanic prayers. words have power and these are curses.

    Publisher's Summary:
She was of American blood, born in the islands. He was a native islander. Their love bridged two worlds that would one day threaten to tear them apart. As a child, Jana Rutherford played barefoot on the sparkling Hawaiian beaches with her friend, Akela, and Akela's handsome cousin, Kimo. But that carefreeness would change as Jana grew... and the quality of her and Kimo's friendship grew as well into something deeper, stronger. It was then that Jana first heard the whispers, "He's not her kind" - and discovered the differences people drew between a Hawaiian-born American and a native islander.
Faced with the ignorance of others and a painful time of separation from Kimo, it would be easy for Jana's love to grow cold. Especially with Bayard, the dashing brother of Jana's wealthy friend, Edith, showing such evident interest. Attractive, charming, and of American stock like herself, Bayard represented a lavish, exciting world that Jana had only read about. But Kimo stood for all she had known and loved.
In each intricate quilt of the Hawaiian women, a secret was hidden known only to its creator, a story contained in its design. Jana's life seemed much like a quilt: delicately yet passionately fashioned by a Creator who knew how to assemble the pieces into a mysterious, glorious pattern - a life's tale yet untold.

    Publisher's Summary:
Johanna Shelby could never have anticipated where that 'fateful encounter' would lead her. She could not have known then how love for the young, rough-hewn, mountain doctor would cause her to turn her back on her privileged lifestyle, threaten to estrange her from her family, and bring her to the wild mountains of Appalachia. If she had known... But no! Nothing could hold her back. Not her adoring, worried parents. Not her snooty, so-called 'friends.' Not even her own flashes of doubt and fear. No, this love would not be denied. It was part of a larger pattern - like the pattern of one of the family quilts her aunts and cousins met weekly to stitch. Into those quilts went not just fabric, but meanings and memories; and when they were finished, the were more than just quilts- they were life stories. Johanna did not know what the future held. But she trusted God... And she knew that he would cause her own family quilt to be rich and beautiful - a pattern like no other.

    Narration is painful!
The narrator reads very amateurish. I'm not sure how to describe it, but perhaps a baby-talk tone. For the most part, her character voices seems okay; but when reading the narration, it is PAINFUL to listen. I hope I can finish it, but I'm not sure.
    worst narration ever
I didn't realize until listening to this book how a narrator can totally ruin a story. It was like sitting in a library listening to the children's story hour.

    Members Reviews:
Bad Recording or Narrator, not sure which.
The story was "ok" but certainly not the best Lisa Samson novel. However, the worse part was either the recording or the narrator. Her accent was great but it sounded like she had lots of saliva in her mouth for the entire recording. She was either smacking her lips/tongue or something else weird. It was very difficult to listen to. Perhaps it could just be the quality of the recording.
    Good Christian Novel
It was a good novel. What you would expect from a Christian novel. I wish it was a little more fast paced. It seemed that the plot dragged in places. Overall, I really enjoyed it.

    Recently discovered good author.
I have really found this author to be very interesting as things medical are woven throughout the story. Could identify easily with the characters & quite a few surprises along the way
    Great book.
Great book. Kept you guessing the whole way through the book.
For the Rest of My Life
Unfortunately I read this series out of order but enjoyed each; one more than the other two. But it is worth the time to read all three. I especially like the way Dr. Kraus presents romance. You can tell it wasn't written by a woman describing what women wish it was but isn't. I won't say it is they best books you'll ever read but there are times you won't want to put it down.
    Read it.
Good book. Seller did good job as well.

    Horrible!!!
Where do I start? I am on chapter 11 and I had to come write a review before anyone wasted their money on this book. I just finished "The Help" and it was amazing the way the author makes you feel like your right there in the story, how advanced the author is in her writting, the depth of the story, it was great! I'm also reading, Night World No. 1: Secret Vampire; Daughters of Darkness; Spellbinder (three short stories in one book) every page you turn something is happening. You want to keep turning the page! This book has went on and on about NOTHING!!!! Chapter 11 and the only thing that has happened is you know Dillian was in Iraq and he's a drug addict. It keeps telling you over and over again Dillian is a drug addict....Quin was 15 years old homeless and all of a sudden she is 17 years old. But there was no point to starting at her being 15 years old. The author could have started her at 17 years old and looked back to the all the years she was homeless. The author uses the work "smacked" four times already. "He smacked his mouth, he smacked his gums"...UGH!!! Your an author...you couldn't come up with a better word to use when trying to describe something. I hate giving bad reviews because I would feel bad if I was the author and I read what someone was saying but OH MY GOSH....its bad!!
