Pamela Wollenberg, a 20-year-old girl from Harvey, Illinois, in a previous incarnation the daughter of a Scottish nobleman, killed herself in a leap from the tower of her castle.
Ruth MacGuire, who now lives a peaceful life in an abandoned inn in Connecticut, found memories under hypnosis of earlier lives as a Puritan girl dying of consumption before reaching America, and as a British officer's wife, raped in a bloody Hindu uprising in India.
June Volpe was a belle of Atlanta before the Civil War and, as Elizabeth Simms, was killed by her son on a new plantation in Florida. She now lives the quiet life of a Pennsylvania housewife.
These are just a few of those who have been...Born Again.

    Flashback to 1973
Reincarnation was never anything I considered until a strange experience in 1991 knocked me sideways. Unbidden, spontaneous, and dramatic, it changed my life and made me question many things. Unfortunately, I still don't know what to make of reincarnation, having neither the faith to believe nor the confidence to deny.
In the early seventies, I read a good many of Holzer's ghost stories, but I don't remember BORN AGAIN so I thought I'd take a listen. Overall, it is worth a listen, mostly for the questions it provokes rather than any which it answers.
The book is largely made up of stories from female subjects. Unfortunately, there is a heavy reliance on hypnosis. Much has been written about the perils of this approach, particularly regarding expectation and suggestion. (Weiss' popular works are similarly problematic).
The science of memory has advanced greatly since 1973, and we know a little more about the way memories are stored and retrieved. Many things may seem to be true memories which may in fact be something else, from forgotten information, imagination, or fantasy to confusion, neurological disturbances, or even dissociation. In that so many things may be at play, it's hard to discern what is or is not a past life recollection, or even if there is such a thing.
The skeptical Schermer-Nickell-Randi crowd would find much to mock in this book, especially in the case of June Volpe. Hers is not a case that weighs in favor of reincarnation, nor is "A Tale of Two Katherines." In the latter, a woman experimenting with planchette and board is led to believe she is the reincarnation of Katherine Parr.
Another Tudor queen? Seriously? Once again, there is the impression that people recall only "special" lives which may be based on vanity or fantasy. (Judy Hall addresses the "queen" phenomenon in her work, with an interesting theory).
The final case in the book, from a male subject, is more interesting and varied. Overall, it is more suggestive than the two mentioned above.
Ian Stevenson's work is mentioned, and his study of children is fascinating, if far from definitive.
It is natural that we wonder why a certain child has a disability or deformity and another has perfect health. Are such things "deserved" based on past life actions?
Holzer is of the mind that child prodigies carry over abilities from previous existences. I was a child prodigy in music, but have never attributed this gift/curse to paranormal circumstances.

Now, view Jesus as you've never thought of him before. Experience his birth, life, ministry, death and resurrection as told through the eyes of his best friend - his dog! This book blends the deep emotional attachment people have with their pets, and their personal relationship they have with God, as lived by Jesus. The life journey of Jesus will never seem as real as it does in this story...from the manger to the cross...with his dog along his side all the way. The greatest story ever told is now the greatest love story ever told about a man and a dog.

    Five Stars
    Love this book
To thinks it was a super canine is stretching it a bit
I believe this is a cute version to imagine that Jesus had a dog. To thinks it was a super canine is stretching it a bit . And I lost count of how many times Mary was pregnant and I don't believe that. However I read it with a non judgemental view open to all Religions and not necessarily the Gospel truth.
The Life Story of Jesus with a dog
Absolutly amazing story aout Jeasus life on this earth. The diference is that he had a dog. It was very interesting I highly ecommend it
... just looking to be entertained and didn't expect anything great. But
I was just looking to be entertained and didn't expect anything great.But... some books/writers have a way of presenting the 'old' and commonplace and without trying touch that part of us that needed to be reminded that there are good feelings awaiting a moment, the right one, to be reexperienced.I loved it
    Not for serious dog lovers
I was expecting a great read from this novel concept of a dog book. Unfortunately the author made Jesus' dog a "wonder dog" and showed even after so many years of dog ownership himself, that he does not understand the nature of the emotional bond between man and his dog. This could have been such a powerful book, and perhaps a wonderful evangelical tool. The writing and depth is juvenile. Save your money and don't buy this book. If you are Chrtistian writer who loves dogs, maybe you can do much better? If not donate the money you would spend on the book to Best Friends or a local shelter.

    Narration not my favorite
What disappointed you about The Fearful Gates?
The tone of the book seemed so different from the 1st in the series. Good guys maybe weren't good guys. Bad guys - were they really bad? It almost felt like it belonged in another series entirely. One of the main characters went through a transformation from being pretty violent to not at all, which I understand was part of the character arc, but it seemed way too quick and not realistic. Something was missing. It could be I just couldn't get past the narration and missed some of the nuances.
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator really ruined the book for me. While his different character voices were okay, whenever he was reading just narration I cringed, sometimes literally. It's hard to describe but it seemed like he raised the pitch of his voice higher and made it feel unnatural. I probably would have enjoyed the actual story a lot more if I could have gotten past that. I made it through the book but I will not be listening again.

    Awesome!
As always, I am never disappointed with the ending. I can never put your books down. Can't wait for the next book!
    Great Read
I enjoyed the second book as much as I did the first book. In a few months I will probably read it again.
    RUNNING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
Rebi was faced with serious decisions that would determine the course of the rest of her life. As she sifts through her unresolved feelings for Will and a disgruntled co-worker in Salisbury, her relationship with God begins to flourish. She starts to realize that running is not always bad - if it is into the arms of the Lord. After sacrificing his engagement for Rebi, Will is left to navigate through the passion that drove him to that point all alone. Continuing to scuffle with the unsettling loss of respect for his father, the unveiling of the past threatens to affect everyoneâs future. As a result, Will must singlehandedly contend with the prospect of an outsider taking over the legacy that his father built with his own hands. Will their individual struggles with their emotions and spiritual status ever lead them back to each other?
Path to Promise by Sherryle Kiser Jackson was an awesome follow up to Land of Promiscuity. Even if read as a standalone title, the author included enough information about the characters & plot to get a good grip on the events that have led up until this point. I love how the charactersâ flaws are so authentic. This is not your run of the mill church book. Everyone has their own quirks, and the story teaches us how to love others for who they are and not who we want them to be. It highlights the struggle many people have, which is whether or not to conform to the status quo or stand on your own two feet. At the end of the day, Rebi and Will had to come to a point where they dealt with their own personal issues in order to come determine if it was even feasible to have a future together. I am hopeful that Ms. Jackson will take us further on this Weary & Will journey in the future.
    I'm On the Path!
Wow! In the sequel to Land of Promiscuity, Sherryle Kiser Jackson offers a beautiful and inspirational love story, resolving readers' lingering questions from Book 1. Path to Promise picks up shortly after Land of Promiscuity leaves off, addressing the issues that were introduced in the first novel-Rebecca's work woes, Will's reluctance to leadership, and the couple's hot-cold relationship. Rebecca finds herself drowning in harassment on the job by a lawyer who seems to stay one step ahead of her. With her legal career at risk, will she finally believe in herself enough to fight for her own justice?
Will's biggest fear has become reality-he is being pushed into the senior pastor role too soon.

    Spiritually challenging, literarily inventive
If you could sum up Now and at the Hour of Our Death in three words, what would they be?
    Belief is freedom.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Mary, naturally. A modern-day saint shows how it's possible to do what's right despite the pressures of a decadent culture.
Which character as performed by Mim Drew was your favorite?
Mary--she fully captured the earnest innocence. Also, Mim nailed the sarcasm of the sister, Hannah.
If you could take any character from Now and at the Hour of Our Death out to dinner, who would it be and why?
    Mary's grandmother. She's a hoot.
    Any additional comments?
Now and at the Hour of Our Death is a magnificent work of spiritual and sociological examination that will thoroughly entertain from beginning to end. It is a page-turner even though it's an audio book. JSB Morse is a masterful storyteller and manages to weave in some of the most amazing themes you'll find in all of modern literature--faith, skepticism, fame, media, coolness, innocence, good, and evil.
It's much more challenging than most spiritual books out there, and has much more soul than most novels out there. In short, it's a unique piece of literature that is sure to be the source of great conversations on a number of fronts.

    bad theology
I downloaded this book hoping it would give me some insight into why people are prolife. The premise of the book is that the angels are the unborn babies. They try to protect their mothers from making the choices that lead to them getting pregnant and then hang around as the mothers make the decision whether to abort what would be the angel's body. The aborted angel gets renamed and sent to someone else to be born, the mother suffers as a result of her choice. If the author believes babies can just be reborn elsewhere, why does abortion matter? Except apparently there is an angry God who might cause earthquakes and stuff if we keep doing this.
The characters seem hollow and the conversations contrived. The author seems to be giving a very shallow portrayal of why a woman would consider having an abortion.
Instead of gaining empathy for those working to reduce abortions, I find myself wondering what percentage of prolifers believe in such a mixed up cruel system. Hopefully not many.
An Novel Approach to Lactation Erotica
Henry Broadnax is among the most influential authors ever to be featured on his own amazon page.
His utter talent - or should I say "udder" talent - really soaks through in this exciting horror erotica book "Abortion Angels" - about pre-undead zombie babies who are hell-bent on retaking their uterine hovels.
Filled with randy werewolves and sexy billionaires, this disgusting book is sure to make you lactate in your pants!

Great story BUT consider the Narrator
What did you love best about Disciple?
The story is great, I have to give it high marks for that.... presents a sense of being in the real world in first century Palestine. Love the book. I bought the others in the series.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The woman who narrates has a high voice and her impressions of male voices is really bad. And in a story set in first century Palestine there are a lot of males! So consider that...BUT I am still glad I have the book. It was worth it because the writing is terrific.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, it's rather long so it wouldn't be practical.

I enjoyed these short stories of times past and how people found Christ in Christmas and how their lives were changed.
Too many glitches in the digital display to truly enjoy
This book is a compilations of short stories about Christmas. Some are just sweet stories to read to children, and some feel like they just suddenly ended and didn't really make too much sense.
The "suddenly ending" may have something to do with how my digital device displayed the stories. There may have been some glitches because when I tried to turn the page, it went to another story. I tried decrease/increasing the font, re-installing, and reading from another device, but the stories jumped around, so I couldn't figure out if it was poorly written or poorly edited. In the end, I gave up reading the book.
    I enjoy most of it
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I enjoy most of it. There were one or two stories that I found rather "contrived" and simplistic. Still, Christmas is a time to suspend our beliefs and cynicism - entering into the spirit of wonder and child-like joy. So all, in all, I enjoyed the collection and the author's unique view point in presenting the real reason for the season.
    The Heart of Christmas
Stories in this book illustrate the true meaning of Christmas so that small children to elderly adults not only enjoy the stories but gain a real understanding of the true Christmas spirit.
    Everyday Miracles
This collection of short stories will both tug your heart and remind you that living faith must live in every day life. And when it does, true miracles will happen.
