Very Google book for minecrafters

It's a very good book for people who understand minecraft. I play it all the time. Listen to this one first before you listen to the others or you won't understand. :) Thank you Mark Cheverton for putting all this effort in to these books!

Tron meets Never Ending Story

Would you consider the audio edition of Invasion of the Overworld: An Unofficial Minecrafter's Adventure to be better than the print version?

For me the narrator stole some of the pace from the story and removed the emotion from a lot of the chapters, disengaging me from the story. Having read the first few chapters I wasn't so removed in text format.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

What interested me most was the Minecraft tie in. I felt the lead up to the final was too long.

What three words best describe Chris Sorensens voice?

Emotionless. Void. Distracting.

This was purchased for research and I was looking for stories to recommend for the reading age. And I would recommend it. There is plenty here to keep someone turning the pages, plenty to discuss about tropes, story building, the genre expectations, word use.

Horse Sense

Jane Smiley has given us treasured books like "A Thousand Acres." She also writes for children. "True Blue" is the third of her horse books for those of us who fell in love with horses and books simultaneously, whether it was "Black Beauty" or "The Black Stallion."

In "True Blue," a horse's owner has died. He is a beautiful dapple gray, who responds to his name with a whinny. Luckily for the horse, the boarder knows just the family for him when he is left without an owner: the Lovitts, a ranch family down the road, trains horses. Abby, the young girl, is thrilled to have True Blue for her own, to keep her mind off some of the boring stuff in school, like geography and grammar. She can tell you the geography of the horse quite well, from hoof to withers, from ears to tail.

As much as this is Blue's story, this is Abby's story. She finds out that "there's no such thing as a gift horse," since horse care is hard work. She also learns that both friends and families have foibles, just as she herself does.

Each chapter begins with illustrations. Each chapter reflects a step of growth into young womanhood and greater knowledge of the world outside the pure world of the horse corral. The divisions within the Lovitt family and the mysterious realm of ghosts and spirits keeps this horse tale moving along at full gallop.

It's a good primer for people who are not horse owners and as always a good primer for writers on the use of voice, dialog, and back story from the eminent, horse-loving Jane Smiley.

third in The Horses of Oak Valley Ranch series

Initially, I thought that the "ghost" subplot did not work, but re-reading _True Blue_, I changed my mind. Jane Smiley has successfully crafted another in her series. Publishers will release the fifth in September, and I have pre-ordered the work. The series is YAâyoung adultâbut I have enjoyed reading the stories, too. Smiley has unerringly written realistic plot and a spunky, talented protagonist. I have purchased all for my classroom and my grandchildren.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I think that the stories end was sweet. I know that the beginning of Jane Smiley's books are a little dry but it couldn't stop reading after the introduction! I just wish that the books were numbered because I think I'm going ahead in the series..... YES it is a series!

Fine story, Kindle edition has many typos

Most of the Boxcar children Kindle editions have a few typos, which is disappointing, but this one is worse than average. I reported 32 typos to Amazon. The story is of the usual high, consistent quality, though.

Amelia teaches us the meaning of being literal.

I had never read these titles as a kid so it was new to me but my daughter's speech therapist uses them to teach kids about being literal. It's a fun exercise to help her understand why Amelia is so silly. It's very abstract and challenging. Almost like a book of puns that teaches you the purpose of having a sense of humor and thinking in a more literal way which can show parents how kids may interpret what they say.

Classic children's book

I grew up having my mom read this story to me so finding it as an adult was wonderful. It's a classic children's book that is sure to make kids laugh.

A relic of a bygone age

What did you like best about The Marrow of Tradition? What did you like least?

Best--the dialect was accurate based on a character's social position. Least--We never really find out what happens to one of the main characters (Tom).

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

For the time it was written, the book is appropriate. Although, it was not all that well-received in 1898. Too much romanticism.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Tom gets his comeuppance over the card game, but his greater crime going unpunished is annoying. Chesnutt does make an important point by allowing Tom to remain more or less unscathed.

Could you see The Marrow of Tradition being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Never. This book has disharmony between the races at its core. While that is still an issue America struggles with, the book's main themes differ from the problems today. I think that the event the book is partly based on (the 1890s Wilmington Riot) would make a good documentary, though.

great book

My son still rereads these books a year later. He read these as a first grader initially and now still reads all of the flat stanley books he can get his hands on. Great for a first time chapter book to get kids into reading as well as to teach geography of the world while having fun doing it.

it was hard to find a series of books that ...

it was hard to find a series of books that my son would read, he just wasn't that interested until we found Flat Stanley - he loves these stories and has stuck with the series. Although I prefer physical books, he loves getting e-books so that's what we do as a treat!

Flat Staynley's Worldwide Adventures #3: The Japanese Ninja Surprise

I got this book for my children, and children absolutely love it. It is not easy to find appropriate, inspiring and good language reading for boys, and this is one of fun readings for them. I totally recommend it for the boys who love adventure books.

my son just started reading Flat Stanley, he is just entering 1st grade. from what i recall the description didnt specify the ages on these book. they are more along the 2nd-3rd grade level. no problem that just means we have to read them with him.

My six year old enjoyed!

At six, son is fascinated with Ninja's, so he enjoyed me reading this boom to him. Liked the plot.
