    Publisher's Summary:
    An Albert Campion mystery.
In a masterpiece of storytelling, Margery Allingham sends her elegant and engaging detective Albert Campion into the eccentric Palinode household, where there have been two suspicious deaths.
And if poisoning were not enough, there are also anonymous letters, sudden violence and a vanishing coffin. Meanwhile the Palinodes go about their nocturnal business and Campion dices with danger in his efforts to find the truth.
    Critic Reviews:
"Miss Allingham is one of the few writers who can deal with art. Both her passions and her patterns are beautiful, accurate and serene" (Daily Telegraph)
"Margery Allingham has worked her way up to a worthy place among the tiny hierarchy of front-rankers in the detective world" (Tatler)
"Margery Allingham deserves to be rediscovered" (P.D. James)
    Members Reviews:
Once again Allingham draws a complete picture of a past time
We're in the post-WWII era now, but the victim's family refuses to admit that times have changed. What hasn't changed is the delightful back-and-forth between Campion and his curmudgeonly upwardly-mobile gentleman's gentleman, Lug. Introduces a new member of the police whom I hope we meet again. As usual, Thorpe brings the disparate cast of characters brilliantly to life.
    One for the ages
This is one of my favorite books, full of color and character and plot. The narrator seems to be having as much fun burrowing into these wonderful characters as I have every time
    I re-listen.
    Good Story Spoiled for Me
If you could sum up More Work for the Undertaker in three words, what would they be?
In my view only, one of the best Albert Campion Story's totally spoiled by the reading
What other book might you compare More Work for the Undertaker to, and why?
    Not really
Would you be willing to try another one of David Thorpes performances?
I have already purchased another Albert Campion by this reader as it is another favourite. I should have waited!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really, the whole book just sort of carries you off on the merry-go-round of strange characters
    Any additional comments?
Sorry but I will have to stick with the abridged version which was very well read by Philip Franks
    fantastic campion

    Publisher's Summary:
Set against a backdrop of escalating terror, Ghosts of Babylon is a fast-paced military thriller that features an intense, gritty, and powerful cast of characters. In a desperate attempt to salvage both his career and a wrecked personal life, archaeologist Stuart Knight volunteers to serve in Iraq as a translator, but his real objective is to get his hands on Babylon's ancient treasures. Once on the ground, he meets Captain Allen, a battalion intelligence officer determined to catch Al-Khayal, the insurgent who blew off his leg and annihilated his entire crew with an IED.
Entangled in the grisly web of Allen's private war, Knight's quest for redemption turns into a struggle for survival with deadly enemies on both sides of the wire. Stuart soon finds himself staring into the face of terror, his own mortality, and an evil as old as Babylon itself.
Written by R.A. Mathis, a veteran armored cavalry officer, this unique novel exposes the pain, horror, and exhilaration of the Iraq War - harsh realities that can only be revealed by one who was there. Spiked with elements of the supernatural, it peers into the abyss and reveals how unchecked obsession can damage those around us and ultimately lead to our destruction. Will Knight heed a final warning, lest he, too, loses his soul to the ghosts of Babylon? Nobody believes in Hell - until they get there.

    Publisher's Summary:
A sacred chalice leads to murder,
The Gyrth family had guarded the Chalice for hundreds of years. It was held by them for the Crown. Its antiquity, its beauty, the extraordinary legends that were connected with it, all combined to make it unique of its kind. It was irreplaceable. No thief could hope to dispose of it in the ordinary way. And indeed no ordinary thief would dream of trying. But there are others besides those who make their living by robbery, others whose immense wealth and passion for collecting render them less immune to the practical considerations that must guide even the less honestly minded citizens. These people cherish a desire to possess for their own private pleasure treasure that cannot be bought. And it was by this sort of person that the Chalice, and the lives and happiness of its guardians, were now threatened.
Margery Allingham was born in London in 1904. Her first novel was published when she was 17. In 1929 she published The Crime at Black Dudley and introduced the character who was to become the hallmark of her writing - Albert Campion
    Members Reviews:
Love the start to this one, like the reader
What did you love best about Look to the Lady?
I like David Thorpe as reader for these books much better than Frances Matthews. I wrote a small novel about why in my review of, "The Crime at Black Dudley" and I will just add to it by saying that I think he's even better here than he was there, and that he reads Campion AS ALLINGHAM WROTE HIM which is what I like in a reader. Allingham was finding her range with this story, and it's got some splendid scenes in it, a great story line, and a lovely supernatural element as well. Plus, it introduces Lugg, Campions right hand man and one of my favorite characters in fiction. I highly recommend this both for the story and the fact that is is well read.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Look to the Lady?
I'm fond of the relationship between Lugg and the butler at the Gyrth estate. I also enjoy the way this one starts, with the homeless man mysteriously summoned to Campions flat in an.unusual way
Which character as performed by David Thorpe was your favorite?
    Always very fond of Lugg.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It didn't make me cry, but the dialog made me laugh more than once. It's witty and sharp and has the inimitable dry British wit that I love.
    Any additional comments?
If you love Golden Age mysteries, you will probably enjoy this.
    Kept me up listening
A wonderful listen. Campion is in fine fettle in this story about a gang of art thieves and a holy relic. Plenty of plot twists will keep you guessing until the end.
    Appalling voice for the hero
How could the performance have been better?
David Thorpe gives detective Albert Campion a high-pitched, silly ass voice which almost spoils the otherwise excellent book.
    Great classic
Very well read with great voices.
For anyone who enjoys a classic mystery in the style of Sayers or Christie.
Back to being as fun as the first
What did you love best about Look to the Lady?
Albert Campion is back to his best as a down on his luck nobility insider acting the part of an inane hanger-on while working to help a client in dire straits.

    Good romance suspense
It was a little predictable as some of the reviews suggest, and, yes, everyone was a little stupid at times but there were some surprises and a nice romance. Just an enjoyable listen wondering who was going to be the next victim and why.
The narrator did okay, although she could work on the male voices.
    Don't understand the bad reviews
I loved this book and love this series. Cynthia Eden does a great mystery. I didn't find the book or the series to be predictable and didn't completely put all the pieces together until the end. I had a few "suspects" and the killer turned out to be one of the three I thought it would be. Overall a very good read, kept me interested and on edge through the entire book. The romance side is also good, with just the right amount of steam.
    Twists & Turns
Where does Die for Me rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This was my 1st audio book & l loved it. It only took my 1 day to listen to it.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, cause you had no idea of when or who was gonna be killed.
What does Emily Beresford bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
This is my 1st time using an audio book & I enjoyed it.
    Good Plot - Dumb Heroine
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Hard to say - it's a good plot, but I was pulled out of the story more than once when the main character (Catherine) would do something so stupid you wanted to smack her. The cops aren't far behind her for stupid. Two different times the main characters had ample opportunity to kill the bad guy and didn't. Yikes - stupid!
Would you be willing to try another book from Cynthia Eden? Why or why not?
    Maybe
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Emily Beresford?
Anyone - really bad male voices.
Did Die for Me: A Novel of the Valentine Killer inspire you to do anything?
    Yeah - erase it.
    Any additional comments?
Argh - frustrating book. Very annoying.
    Good Romantic Suspence
Katherine Cole had thought she found the perfect man in Michael, until one day she was proved wrong. Escaping with a new life to New Orleans she has tried to go on with her life. She has succeeded in making a go at it, even if her attempts at dating have been futile.

Unsurpassable performance of a brilliant novel
I just couldn't imagine a better narration. Such a pleasure just listening to Rintoul's genius. Forsyth's real world understanding of spycraft and politics makes for a wonderfully believable adventure.
    ALTERNATIVE

yes a lot more action at start
What three words best describe David Rintouls performance?
    slow to go
Could you see The Devil's Alternative being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
matt damon and donald sutherland and anthony laparlia
    very good
very good clarity , narrator is 1st class would not mind another book by him
    Gripping thriller with renewed topicality
Published in 1979 this book is redolent with the suspicion and hostility between the Soviet Union and the West that prevailed at the time. I listened in the early 1990s (when audiobooks came on numerous tape cassettes) and recall thinking that although the book was exciting it was less convincing owing to the new rapprochement between the old adversaries. As many years had passed and Id forgotten most of the story I thought Id download the book and see how it played in the current climate of renewed tensions. It couldnt be more topical as the story involves Ukrainian freedom fighters, the importance in saving face for Soviet leaders and tussles between hawks and doves on either side of the Atlantic.
Apart from its renewed relevance to todays world it remains a first class thriller. As with other books by the author, there is quite a bit of technical detail about, for example, guns, tankers, aircraft, the SAS that I would normally find boring but somehow in these books adds authenticity. Though largely a book about men wielding power and manipulating events the book, unlike, say, those by Wilbur Smith, avoids misogny and the few women characters are not clichés.
David Rintoul narrates with perfect manly authority making the characters seem believable as they save the world from disaster.
A bit dated but still classic Forsyth
Would you consider the audio edition of The Devil's Alternative to be better than the print version?
    It's probably on a par.

    Loved this book
Karen Savage does a great job - this book has everything - mystery, comedy and a lil love interest -Gotta love that
    America's answer to Christie
A big claim to make in that headline, but how else do you describe a busybody detective in a story with twists and turns a plenty, where every character is hiding something and there are plenty of false trails to follow.
The wit and humour in the story is perfectly captured by both Balzo and Savage, as is the drama and tension, long may these two continue their working relationships over Maggie Thorson

    Great Book - Hard Content
This book has some very hard to hear subject matter and I must say some of it was a bit too over the top. For me, the girls having the caring families that they did but then coming home with a multitude of some pretty serious injuries just doesn't jive for me. However, that being said I can see where predatory and self righteous thugs could and would inflict such pains. For me the writing and story line were enough to keep me constantly engrossed, enough so that I've now gone and gotten her other book that Audible has to offer and I'm just as excited to listen to it - hoping it keeps my interest just as much as this one did. I can't help but be sad for one of the characters in this book - you'll know who by the end. Highly recommended if you can handle the context.
    I couldn't quit listening.
The plot, language and narration were fantastic! With only one (understandably) one-dimensional character, I was intrigued by the protagonists' personalities, lives and plights. With one exception, I was unable to piece together exactly what happened in the past to make Serena and Poppy "The Ice Cream Girls".
At the risk of being repetitive, I enjoyed this book immensely, and will enjoy listening to it again. Kudos to the author and narrators.
    Eh
I'm getting tired of these dull bestselling "suspense" stories in which the conclusion rests on some utterly random event or happenstance rather a well-built plot and character development. The narration was uneven, the voice(s) she chose for one main character were so whiny and self-pitying that it was hardly bearable. On the plus side, that did make it plausible that she was delusional, giving the book a bit of interest it actually lacked as written.
    A little slow
Would you try another book from Dorothy Koomson and/or the narrators?
    Maybe
What do you think your next listen will be?
    The Competitor
What three words best describe the narratorss voice?
    Soft, alive, quiet
Did The Ice Cream Girls inspire you to do anything?
    Unfortunately no
    Any additional comments?
The book was very slow paced and I was under the impression it would have spent more time on the trial as opposed to the girls' lives after.

Hate to see Collin Cellars go
Really enjoyed this one. Can't help but wonder how much follows Ken Goddard's logic. It was different to some degree from the first but as good and I think better than the second. I used to read Goddard years back and thought he had abandoned writing. So glad he didn't.
I also got a laugh out of the quirky, sarcastic humor and the way Cellars always managed to get into trouble.
    It's pronounced Crowchee. Jim Croce.
I have listened to the prior two stories to this series and Kennerly is an adequate narrator-as long as you slow the speed to 80 or 85. But where are the directors when Kennerly says Cross instead of Croce? Actors aren't literature majors, but isn't pronunciation a major part of narrating? Mispronouncing Croce's name is not the only incident, just the most annoying one.
