Would you listen to Dead Man Walking again? Why?

I would listen to this again. It was immensely enjoyable. The descriptions made it easy to "see" the scenes. The plot was well thought out and I loved the twist in the tale.

60 years later, still a great read

When Amazon had a couple of Kindle her books on sale, I had never heard of author Dorothy Salisbury Davis â which is quite a pity, as she was quite well known in her day. Who could resist a book titled The Judas Cat? Not I!

Alex Whiting runs the Weekly Sentinel in the Midwestern town of Hillside, as his father Charles Whiting has gone into semi-retirement; Fred Waterman is nearing retirement as the honest police chief of Hillside. When a 92-year-old recluse named Andrew Mattson dies in very peculiar circumstances, the townâs and countyâs power structure seems arrayed against anyone poking their noses into what actually happened to old Andy Mattson.

Both Whiting and Waterman suspect the hand of the Addison family, millionaires who run factories across the country, including neighboring Riverdale. But what did the Addisons have to fear from an old man who almost never left his house?

Cleverly plotted, The Judas Cat remains as suspenseful as it must have been for readers in 1949, when it was first released. Davis never lets her tale of crusading newspaper man and incorruptible cop fall into cliché; neither man rivals Sherlock Holmes â or even Penny Parker â in cleverness, and they have other flaws, as well. But I couldnât put the novel down, and the ending came as an utter surprise.

I also appreciated that the novel reminds readers that the post-World War II era was not necessarily as perfect as is made out in nostalgia-laden accounts. The type of gambling and political corruption that made the Kefauver Hearings necessary emerge in the novel, and itâs too easy to forget how much sway the powerful had in that supposed Golden Age â much more so than now â when crossing the townâs biggest shot could well mean ostracism, financial ruin, or even institutionalizing in a mental institution. No rose-colored glasses for me, thank you!

A good read.

A vintage mystery with many turns and twists. Kept me interested (read till 2 AM).

Many of the characters have secrets they will protect at all cost. A good read.

Somehow I missed this one, glad I found it. I like her style, her story telling is excellent.

Not her best book!

Too many characters (mostly names starting with the letter A!), had a hard time keeping track of who's who and the intricate relationships. Not her best book!

Disappointment!

What disappointed you about Paris Match?

Too much sex and not enough substance. Very weak plot and story lines. Last Stuart Woods book, Cut and Thrust was one of his better novels. Maybe did not spend much time cranking this one out.

Not worth a credit!

Too many love starved women fighting over him. Dumb and dumber. The sex scenes were vulgar and unnecessary Way too much political yada yada.Overall a very dull read. I have read most of the Stone Barrington books but this one was ludicrous. The last one should have warned me not to pr-order. Never again. Even Tony Roberts couldn't save this lemon.

Dodd's new direction is worth your time and money

Virtue Falls is Christina Dodds first foray into storylines with a more intense thriller/mystery focus. She has written romantic suspense before (see her Bella Terra series), but Virtue Falls focuses much more heavily on the suspense element. While this is a new direction for her, its also her 50th published novel, and her deft hand is evident.

Elizabeth Banner has returned to the town where, according to trial results, her father killed her mother 23 years ago. Elizabeths father is a famous geologist, and she is following in his footsteps. As he has been in prison for those 23 years, Elizabeth points out that her career is due to aptitude more than influence. The project he started before the murder is still ongoing, and Elizabeth has signed on. The town of Virtue Falls is on the cost of Washington state, the perfect place for Elizabeth to investigate the path and impact of tsunamis caused by earthquakes.

Thats foreshadowing, folks, as it doesnt take long for both an earthquake and tsunami to strike. Serendipitously, Elizabeth is at the teams coastal worksite alone when that happens, and she videos the event. The cataclysm isolates the town from the rest of the world, and also uncovers hidden bones. Some of those bones prove to belong to Elizabeths mother. Her father, who is slipping erratically into Alzheimers, has been moved from prison to a memory care center in Virtue Falls. Elizabeths suicidal ex-husband, former FBI agent Garik Jacobsen, finds a reason to live when he takes on the task of protecting Elizabeth. And it turns out she needs protection: A killer is stalking again, and he has Elizabeth in his sights. Is it the same person who killed Elizabeths mother?

I really enjoyed this book, and fans of Lisa Gardner, Alex Kava, Tami Hoag, Erica Spindler, and other similar writers will find it worth their time. Because of the setting small town and the isolating earthquake, the possible suspect list is limited but Dodd does a good job of casting suspicion around. I wasnt 100% sure of who the killer was until nearly the end, which is as it should be. The characters are engaging as well. The narrator, Rebecca Soler, does an excellent job, and I will be adding her to my list of narrators to watch for.

I will definitely be purchasing Dodds next installment in the Virtue Falls series.

The characters were all unlikeable. This works for some stories, but just fell flat on this one, at least for me. For a main character with logical thinking, the things the author had Elizabeth doing were in my opinion, just plain stupid.

Nazi Hunter Hounds Angel of Death

This thriller is set in 1974 as the fictional Ezra Lieberman, a Nazi hunter based loosely on Simon Wiesenthal, is contacted by a U.S. reporter on the job in Brazil who just heard of a plan by Josef Mengele, infamously called the "Angel of Death," to activate ODESSA (former SS members on the loose in South America) in order to kill 94 men. The only link among the men who have thus far been killed is they were murdered just after reaching age 65; otherwise, they seem to share no common traits.

The chilling novel tracks Lieberman as he desperately tries to determine the link among the targeted men before more are killed (why does Mengele want these seemingly harmless men dead?) and attempts to track down Mengele.

While some parts of the novel are dated (mainly because most any SS officer in the Third Reich, if alive, would be near 100 or older), the genetic engineering premise is much more likely than it was in 1976 upon the novel's publication.

A hearty recommendation for a change from the glutted market and often overlapping scenery of recently-published mystery/suspense novels.

A captivating story

I chose to give this novel 5 stars because it deserves it. This is Saskia's 2nd book and it is beautifully written.

the topic is not that unusual but she creates a situation that is quite unique, I would recommend it to any one that likes

a well written story of suspense, heartbreak, and maybe a happy ending? Read it and see!

Sehr spannendes Buch. Interessant auch, wie der Autor die Ereignisse um die letzte US Präsidentenwahl vorneweg nahm (Stichwort Cambridge Analytica). Wie bei jeder Technik gibt es aber Vor- und Nachteile. Ich bin überzeugt, dass die neuen Techniken der Datenanalyse auch für gute Zwecke genutzt werden können. Speziell für die im Buch beschriebene augmented reality sehe ich eine grosse Zukunft voraus, Beispiele dafür gibt es auch schon mit Hololens.

Good second book little slow

I do enjoy this author but this second book and the first had some very slow parts that were great for falling to sleep to but not so great for the story. Sometimes it felt he dragged on certain bits to make the book longer. I did think it got much better towards the end and at times had me on edge. Good adios narration

Terrifying!

Couldn't put it down! I didn't know not was book two and wish I'd read book one first.

Scariest read ever!!

I loved the first book in this series which led me to this one. I absolutely loved it from beginning to end. The character development was excellent and the narrator was the best I've listened to. I loved how he did the women. Especially Beautiful Maxine. I forgot I was listening to one man read this story I believed in each character and lost myself in the performance and story!!! loved it!!!

Excellent continuation of the series!

Just a great book! Love the characters, the writing, and the narration. Fabulous! Can't wait for the conclusion!

Andrew is NO Lisbeth Salinder!!

Disappointed again. I read the second of the Series hoping it would improve. It didn't. It became more of a caricature of a murder series. I couldn't figure out who was more cartoonish, Luther, Andrew or his parents!!! Come on Blake! I know you have better stories in you! Stop letting the grad students near your manuscripts!
