    DON'T read this review !!
This was a first for me! On the day I purchased this book, the sample audio wouldn't play, and there were no written reviews, so I decided to purchase it without ANY info. I didn't even read the publisher's summary. I think the title came up when I did a search for a mystery or psychological thriller, and what an excellent surprise it turned out to be. The story is outstanding, and the narration is brilliant.
If you like a good psycho thriller... you will likely be as wowed as I was. I highly recommend this novel, but then again, I told you not to read this review
    Equal parts irritating and interesting
    Any additional comments?
This book...nay...this FREAKIN AUTHOR! I find her extremely frustrating. In her book Under Your Skin, I was generously rewarded for wading through exasperating portions of the book, because the end was ON. POINT. So, perhaps foolishly, I figured this book would be the same - if I just powered through the irritating parts, and the annoying as all hell characters, the end would make it all worth it. Nope. Not even a little bit. But once again I'm frustrated, because she knows how to write a damn book! All the components are there, but she missed the mark on this one. Plus, this author really has a knack for writing main characters that you want to punch right in the throat. Narration was excellent, but overall - I'd skip this one. Listen to Under Your Skin, instead.
I loved the book! I think you will too.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would. It was one of the best audio books I have listened to so far. I am new to this and have to really check out all reviews, as I have had to return several books.
What did you like best about this story?
The back and forth between Lizzie and Zach. Is he dead? Is he alive? I didn't know until the very end. An amazing thriller. Highly recommended!
Have you listened to any of Penelope Rawlins and Daniel Weyman s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is my first. I look forward to more.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I could not wait to continue listening every chance I got. Very addictive audio book. Suspenseful, great narrators, storyline.
    Any additional comments?
I cannot say enough great things about this audio book. Highly recommended! I would like to hear what others have to say about this great listen!
    Good not great
The main character is very frustrating and naive, the story becoming a tiring track of PTSD.
    Save Your Money..!!
    Save your money or credit..
If they had condensed it down into an hour long novella it STILL would have been tedious going...
Too long ..waiting for something to happen was a mistake,.. and a waste of my time.

    ABSOLUTELY CREEPTASTIC
    Any additional comments?
This book was creeptastic! I am a huge fan of audio books because it allows me to do one of my favorite things while working around my house or running errands. I saw a review for this book on a fellow bloggers page, and immediately had to purchase it. I am so glad I did. I sucked it up in one day. Poor kids tried to talk to me with ear buds in my ears all day....Hmm, now maybe now they know how it feels as a mom to speak to them...
The very first chapter, had me squirming. Bugs......that's all I will say.
Psychological thrillers trip me out. Our minds are so complex and amazing, and at the same time can be scary. Things that make you go "hmmm".
Leon finds himself waking up from a nightmare to find his wife is packing her things and crying. When he sees her face all beat up he is horrified. Did he do it? Has his condition come back?
Leon decided to buy a camera to hook to his head to see what is going on at night while he sleeps. When he wakes the next day to watch the film he finds something in his house and gets pulled into an underground world. The problem is Leon cannot decide if what is happening is real or if it's all a bad dream.
The story is absolutely fascinating. Even I was questioning what was happening to Leon. Sometimes I didn't even know if what I was listening to was Leon being conscious of his behaviors or in some kind of in between sleep and consciousness state.
Leon finds clues that his wife didn't actually leave but is missing, and this door he has found in his room is going to lead him to her somehow. Leon finds out that his wife isn't who he thought she was, but he still loves her and is desperate to find her.
First he finds her cell phone. Then he finds his pen, that was on his desk. The more clues he finds the more Leon is convinced that he himself has put Natalie in danger, and may in fact be responsible for her disappearance.
As this story unfolds I was constantly saying "what the what".....Just when I thought something made sense something else would happen that made me question my own judgement of what was happening. I love it when a book does that to me.
The ending was as fantastic as the beginning. I was caught off guard, surprised, and it was awesome. If you like psychological thrillers this is a great one to pick up.

    Format: Unabridged

    Publisher: Brilliance Audio
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 116 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
From the number one New York Times - best-selling author of the W. E. B. Griffin novels comes a rollicking story of love, war, and adventure.
As the author of the electrifying W. E. B. Griffin novels of the military, police, spies, and counterspies, William E. Butterworth III has been delighting audiences for decades - but he has a special treat for them now.
At the tender age of 16, Philip W. Williams III is expelled from boarding school for committing a prank, and on the train home naturally wonders where his life will take him now. It never enters his mind that he will become a world-class marksman and a special agent of the US Army Counterintelligence Corps in postwar Germany, play a key role in the defection of a Soviet officer and then court danger as a courier for the CIA, marry an Austrian ballet dancer of ferocious mien, become a renowned best-selling novelist, and meet the love of his life on a hunting trip to Scotland.
Yet all of this, and a great deal more, awaits him, in a raucous series of adventures across Europe and the United States that will have listeners laughing, cheering, and fiercely anticipating what happens next.
It is a novel that only Bill Butterworth could write - and that his millions of fans will enjoy.
    Members Reviews:
    Reader can't say cuss words!
The reader ruined the story by using expletive deleted for every curse word in the book. It made it almost impossible to under stand at times. I think he needs to find a new job. Even reading the bible would be hard for him.
That being said, I really enjoy all of WEB Griffens books.
    Deleting
I didn't like that there were to many deletions
And they interfered with the story .
    don't bother.
loved w.e.b. griffin ' s other books. this one not so much. is this semi autobiographical? a real autobiography would be better.
Too 'Expletive Deleted' Cute By Half
Would you try another book from William E. Butterworth and/or Will Damron?
Yes. I can only hope that Mr. Butterworth will stick with what has made him successful in the past and leave this type of foolishness behind. So, I will try another to see if he has come to his senses. The narrator did the best he could with what he had to work with.
What was most disappointing about William E. Butterworths story?
The over use of the gimmick of replacing adult language with Expletive Deleted interfered with the flow of the story. The story was somewhat weak to begin with. Light comedy does not seem to be the author's forte.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
He did not have much in the way of materiel to work with.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
    I was very disappointed.
    Any additional comments?
Hopefully Butterworth will not look a gift horse in the mouth. His father has put a treasure trove of story lines in place for him to continue if he wishes. Perhaps it is the old, sad story of the son wanting to be out from under the father's shadow but he should remember that it is hot and uncomfortable in the blazing sun. A little shadow can be a good thing.
    Incredibly Entertaining
Very satirical. This is he most entertaining book I have listened to in a long time.

I expected to really enjoy this one, and I was right! Taking place 3 years after the Treasure of St Lazare, familiar characters become involved with new, threatening ones. The writing draws you in and you become invested in the story quite early on. There are some weavings of the previous tale into this one, and lots more new and unrealized things that totally surprise. The action is pretty much non-stop. Great book for plot twists that blow you away!
The narrator of the audio is okay.

    Publisher's Summary:
Will Robie is the government's most professional, disciplined, and lethal assassin. He infiltrates the most hostile countries in the world, defeats our enemies' advanced security measures, and eliminates threats before they ever reach our shores.
But now his skills have left him. Sent overseas on a critical assignment, he fails, unable to pull the trigger. Absent his talents, Robie is a man without a mission and without a purpose.
To recover what he has lost, Robie must confront what he has tried to forget for over 20 years: his own past.
    The Guilty
Will Robie escaped his small Gulf Coast hometown of Cantrell, Mississippi, after high school, severing all personal ties, and never looked back. Not once. Not until the unimaginable occurs. His father, Dan Robie, has been arrested and charged with murder.
Father and son haven't spoken or seen each other since the day Robie left town. In that time Dan Robie - a local attorney and pillar of the community - has been elected town judge. Despite this, most of Cantrell is aligned against Dan. His guilt is assumed.
To make matters worse, Dan has refused to do anything to defend himself. When Robie tries to help, his father responds only with anger and defiance. Could Dan really be guilty?
With the equally formidable Jessica Reel at his side, Robie ignores his father's wishes and begins his own desperate investigation into the case. But Robie is now a stranger to his hometown, an outsider, a man who has forsaken his past and his family. His attempts to save his father are met with distrust and skepticism...and violence.
Unlike the missions Robie undertook in the service of his country, where his target was clearly defined, digging into his father's case only reveals more questions. Robie is drawn into the hidden underside of Cantrell, where he must face the unexpected and possibly deadly consequences of the long-ago choices made by father and son.
    Members Reviews:
Love Robie & Reel but Not the Plot
Book 4 started with an interesting twist, but I thought it went off the rails when Will Robie went back to his hometown in Mississippi to find out why his father was jailed for murder.
First I didn't understand why Will would have the burning desire to see his abusive father Dan after 20+ years with no contact. Although Will was surprised to discover he has a young step-mother and a 3 year old half-brother Ty (mistakenly referred to as a step brother), he was determined to help.
Will jumped into investigating the murder, which he did better than the police. The best scene of the book occurred when Reel dropped in to help Will - just love Jessica & her dry wit. The "murder mystery" was dark & dreary and the identity of the villains seemed contrived. Hard to believe that many violent sociopaths could grow up in 1 small town.
I disliked when Dan, a Vietnam vet, tried to explain why he routinely beat Will until he left home at 18. Excuse # 1 was that Dan's father was even more brutal and Excuse # 2 was his combat trauma, which didn't explain why Dan didn't abuse Ty. Dan claimed to care about Will, while never making an effort to find him and make amends.
I enjoyed the easy partnership between Will & Jessica and the fast moving action but thought the book needed more lighter moments.
    Way under par quality.

    interesting!
a good book took a minute to connect the dots but once I did .....loved it ..loved it ...loved it !!!
    Great read!
The narrator could of been more better at the accents because it wasn't convincing at all, I think Carey Hite should have narrated this book! He's the best! Bust anyways the story was really good, can't wait for part 2
    Not bad
Before purchasing this book i read the reviews and they had me hesitant at first however, this was actually a really good book. The narrator did exactly what narrators do. She wasn't a bad narrator at all. She does sound a bit older for her character but she still did an amazing job narrating the book. Why would a person say Cary Hite would've been better? He's not the best narrator neither is he the worst but or a "female character" I would prefer a female narrator like Nicole Small, Lisa Smith or Honey Jones. All of the above are excellent. All & all its a good book & the narrator did a good job.
    Great Read
Ended to fast!!!! The characters were people who you could relate to!!! Great book to listen to!!!

the story was very predictable however it was a good story. The characters in the situations came together well . i would highly recommend.

    Great suspense thriller!
The 24th Letter, which refers to [Omega] the 24th and final letter in the Greek alphabet, is the second novel in the 8 novel (so far) Sean O'Brien mystery/thriller series by Tom Lowe. I previously reviewed novels 1 and 8 in the series. O'Brien is a retired Miami homicide detective. This novel uses a tried and true method of building suspense: desperately searching for the actual killer when the innocent man convicted of the crime is only hours from execution. O'Brien arrested and testified against the innocent man on death row 11 years ago. Michael David Axtell narrates this entire series perfectly.
another great book by Tom lowe
really enjoyed this book .I listen while I sew and really liked it.I am going to download another Tom Lowe book.
    Not bad, just off
I am not quite sure what isn't meshing between me and these stories. They seem illogical at times, similar to the kinds of problems typically found in TV or movies. I like the way the author and narrator handle most of the non Sean O'Brian characters. I have a disconnect with Sean. His quick finds of material other cops have missed and his disregard for all of the laws he is breaking also get under my skin. A lot of the problem may be that I am used to 400 page books with a similar amount of goings on, so those authors had a lot more space for character development.
I already own the next 2 books in the series. I hope the author finds the zone for these stories. The first in the series had some mysticism in it and this one relies more on miss direction and plot twists. They both seem to benefit from the authors knowledge of crime, but sometimes he strays from letting the story cover the issue and has a character, out of character, explain it to the reader.
A decent action romp, if you don't let the little problems get to you, but not the kind of book I tell my friends to check out.

    Publisher's Summary:
Chicago's V. I. Warshawski confronts crooked politicians and buried family secrets in the gritty new novel from New York Times - bestselling author Sara Paretsky.
No one would accuse V. I. Warshawski of backing down from a fight, but there are a few she'd be happy to avoid. High on that list is tangling with Chicago political bosses. Yet that's precisely what she ends up doing when she responds to Frank Guzzo's plea for help.
For six stormy weeks back in high school, V. I. thought she was in love with Frank. He broke up with her, she went off to college, he started driving trucks for Bagby Haulage. She forgot about him until the day his mother was convicted of bludgeoning his kid sister, Annie, to death. Stella Guzzo was an angry, uncooperative prisoner and did a full twenty-five years for her daughter's murder.
Newly released from prison, Stella is looking for exoneration, so Frank asks V. I. for help. V. I. doesn't want to get involved. Stella hated the Warshawskis, in particular V. I.'s adored mother, Gabriella.
But life has been hard on Frank and on V. I.'s other childhood friends, still stuck on the hardscrabble streets around the dead steel mills, and V. I. agrees to ask a few questions. Those questions lead her straight into the vipers' nest of Illinois politics she's wanted to avoid. When V. I. takes a beating at a youth meeting in her old hood, her main question becomes whether she will live long enough to find answers.

    Narrator
I tried to finish the book - each time I fell asleep. This is the only V.I. book I'm really disappointed with.
Good story, lousy narrator, can't speak Chicagoan
It was very difficult to get past the voice of the new narrator. She doesn't sound like a Chicagoan. I only continued because I like Paretsky's style.
    Another great V.I. Warshawski book...
At first I found the narrator to be quite boring, but as I continued listening, I discovered that Karen Peakes did a beautiful job of bringing the characters to life. And yes, even V.I. herself, I had almost let the fact that I believed that Susan Ericksen was the voice of V.I. interfere with my enjoyment of this story. In the end I'm willing to admit that Ms Peakes did an excellent job.
Sara Paretsky wrote another winner as usual! I highly recommend this book to anybody that is interested in mysteries.
    Wonderful book!!
Just use to "V I" voice being Jean Smart or Susan Ericson but it is a good story well worth the wait - can't wait for the next book!!!
    Excellent story, well narrated
A lot of characters to keep track of, but the story moves along well. generally excellent job with multiple characters ' voices.
