Fascinating

My first Bolton mystery. It is just excellent: tightly plotted, well drawn characters and very hard to not listen to in one sitting. It's perfect for a snowy weekend.

This was amazing. I can't risk giving anything away, but as an avid listener of books in my life there are few that I will remember for the rest of my life. This one I will remember.

Had me give up in all things in my day just so I could finish listening to the story. Edge of my seat all the way!

I loved the characters. The teasing out of details. The organization of the story and the way they dished out each clue. Wonderful

Too many to count. I can't believe I have never listened to this authors books before. That's going to change, I can't wait to find her next book.

The ending. When things could have gone 4 different ways. I was soooo tense waiting to see what was going to happen next!

I'm one of those 300 books a year kinda gal. If I give 5 stars u really need to consider reading eat. That didn't sound as nice as I thought it would. Lol. Just give it a try ! If it ends up great and u liked it, let me know! Share some good ones with me!

Not my favorite Bolton

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. Would recommend others though. Similar to another reviewer, i was drawn into this story until then last few chapters which I found impposible to believe. The attempt at irony failed miserably.

Would you recommend Daisy in Chains to your friends? Why or why not?

Same question. See above. When writing a mystery there's a trust or a bargain created between reader and author. Rather felt used and had my time wasted. There was a whole backstory completely hidden.

None. Nothing to do with Antonia Beamish's performance. In the end no one was likable.

A bit hard to believe

It was a great story until about the last six to eight chapters. Then it became excelerated and rather hard to see as credible.

What did you love best about Sleepy Hollow: General of the Dead?

I thought the first two in this series were great fun to listen to, but General of the Dead was superb. My favorite part, other than the exceptionally engaging story, was that Gleaves took these wonderful characters and really fleshed them out in this story. I enjoyed it all the way through, and I didn't want it to end.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sleepy Hollow: General of the Dead?

Agathe's Tale was particularly well done. It is a story within a story, and it is particularly long. It is a testament to Gleaves' maturing skills as a writer that the change in the continuity to his main story was smooth and painless. It added such a compelling layer to an enjoyably layered story.

Which character as performed by Eric Michael Summerer was your favorite?

Eric Michael Summerer's reading of Joey and Zef was perfect. Two well drawn characters to begin with, but his reading of them, with the emotional ups and downs that came with their stories, made me smile and tear up several times. Summerer, like Gleaves, has taken his art to a whole new level in General of the Dead.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Well, there was the part of the story toward the end that made me sincerely mad that Gleaves had chosen a particular outcome. And then he made it all better. These characters stay with you, they move you.

This book rockets the Sleepy Hollow/Jason Crane series into the ranks of first-rate literature. The depth of characterization here, the solid advancement of the always gripping plot, the locale descriptions which put you IN the story, the beautiful and wise observations about what it means to be alive and happy on planet Earth along the way -- they all combine into this wonderful reading/listening experience. Enjoy it for the adventure alone, or enjoy it for the masterfully crafted story it is, but go ahead and spend the credit because you will enjoy it.

Epic resolution to the series

This was an epic finish to an amazing series!

I absolutely loved these books. They were so much fun! Ghosts, magic, witches, history, hidden tunnels and lost documents. Lots of action, a bit of romance and an amazing resolution to the story.

love everything she writes.... some mystery some paranormal and some romance... all rolled into one.

Good but...

I usually love these books, but this one was so incredibly boring and hard to get into for the first 3/4 that I almost did not finish it. Seriously, I the whole thing could have been five-ten chapters. Seemed like this was just a broken out pie've fluffed up with nonsense for the sake of making money. Disappointed. If if the next one has the same stunt, I won't read another.

What made the experience of listening to The Candidate's Daughter the most enjoyable?

It is an exciting book with well-written characters. The author is a great story teller. The narrator gives an excellent performance. In all this is just a great book.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, first the characters are very likable and well written. The story is fast paced and has many unforeseen plot twists. Kelsy and the Candidate's wife are wonderful protagonists. They are both fighters and meet their challenges head on. This book captures the amazing experience of knowing a Down's syndrome child and the joy they bring.

What does Amy Tallmadge bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

She gives each character a unique voice. Each character is an individual and sounds like it. It is easy to follow and very edge of your seat. I especially like the voices of Holly and Kelsy.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely, but it is a little too long for that. It is very suspenseful and keeps you engaged all the way to the surprising end.

Includes swearing, but in a realistic lifestyle way rather than graphic. Touching and inspiring book. I received this book for free in exchange for a fair review.

ENGAGING, INTRIGUING & RIVETING - GREAT READ!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Candidate's Daughter to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version so I am unable to compare the two. However, I do not believe I could have brought the story to life the way in the way that Amy Tallmadge managed to do for me.

What did you like best about this story?

This story was written extremely well. Excellent and interesting characters. The story peaked my interest from the beginning and maintained it throughout. With so many twists and turns, I was unable to determine who was responsible until it was revealed to me.

Good story - typically American finish

I enjoyed the style and plotting if this story. My only real disappointment was that I anticipated an ending that would have taken this beyond the standard crime novel - but instead it hurriedly degenerated into a more formulaic denouement. My assumption, perhaps even my hope, is that this came at the insistence of a "safety-first" publisher. At least then I can believe that the author's future may hold something more satisfying.

Best book I've heard so far

This is a brilliant story, twists and turns and the ultimate twist right at the end!!! I couldn't stop listening! Performances were good too again some of the best I've heard so far- it does help having more than one narrator. Genius :-)

Didn't hold my interest

This book began so good, but drifted off mid way and was so far fetched for my liking.

I hoped for more from this - the twist in the middle was good, the ending was just a massive let down, like the author lost interest!

If you could sum up Sleep Sister in three words, what would they be?

Emotional, Chilling, Secret.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Beth because she endured so much dislike from her family and so much pain with the secret and guilt she felt after leaving her sister and home. But she was also brave and wanted to do what she could to let the secret go.

What does Marcella Riordan bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?

I think Marcella Riordan has a very nice voice and listening to her read Sleep Sister felt emotional.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Two girl secret, one girls fight to expose the truth and revenge the monster who created it....

Sleep Sister is a very emotional, gripping and dark story. About two girls who have their lives destroyed by their uncle. And grow up with a secret that tears them both apart in different ways. Confused

I thought I had missed a chapter or something when George Guidall ended the narration. Even went back and re-listened to last 5 chapters and I still don't understand the ending! Felt like I was left in the Deep Blue too.

Lame,lame, lame

I read most of the early Doc Ford novels til they started to sound alike. Came back to check. Nope. I had trouble following the story. What was the dopey conversation with Ford's "Boss" all about? What was the trip to the cabins with the Brazilian all about? How does someone survive an 80' fall onto concrete? When did the shark turn into a whale and then back into a shark?

Best RWW book of all time: Batfishing in the Rainforest"! Cmon, Randy step it up.

I thoroughly enjoyed this installment, as I always do. I've been a Doc Ford fan since the very first book. Randy Wayne White not only does a wonderful job of creating Doc Ford and his supporting cast, but his description of the area is so wonderfully done it makes me feel as though I'm actually there. George Guidall as always brings the characters to life. I highly recommend this book to not only Doc Ford fans, but also fans of mystery/suspense books.

Wonderful book

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The story takes place all over the globe but doesn't make you feel like that is being done as window dressing to a sagging story. I found myself alternately hating and liking the characters which pleased me immensely.

Chris Pavone Does It Again

Chris Pavone's writing is awe inspiring. He character development is something you only find among the best writers in any form of writing. To me his books are two in one. One obviously is the thriller which doesn't try to glamorize the ruthless world of spies. The other "book" is his study of people, how we think, what makes us tick, and the questions we ask ourselves about our lives everyday. In other words it is the thinking person's thriller. Great reader.

An entertaining and cinematic spy thriller

It felt like a lot like a film, not only in its premise and spy thriller genre hallmarks but in the way it was written. Not a bad thing at all, kept me engaged and entertained throughout.

Great escapism, also nicely situated in reality, one could really imagine something like this happening in real life.

I have no doubt this will be developed into a film and I'm sure it won't live up to the book :)

A fresh new take on the espionage thriller

What did you love best about The Travelers?

It felt a little more realistic than many espionage thrillers. The "reluctant hero" wasn't quite the trope that we're used to and I felt that the situations were realistic and kept my interest.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Absolutely. There was just enough back and forth between scenes and characters to keep me listening.

Which scene was your favorite?

There were several good scenes, but the final "showdown" was particularly well done without being over the top.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I wouldn't say I was "moved", but I really enjoyed the novel and expect that I'll be reading/listening to more of Mr. Pavone's work.

Very enjoyable book.
