let down

not a fan of the narrator, loved the story though, tigers curse was superbly narrated, let down when I listened to this book wish the narrator was better

I so wanted to like this book.

I felt like I was rereading g 'Tiger's Curse" (which I loved, but not enough to read it again) only set in Egypt. I didn't like the main characters, and that makes or breaks a story for me.

Amazing

I wish the reader did better at betraying each character as the reader for tigers curse did.

The book was amazing. Can't wait till next one.

There were moments in this book that definitely made me laugh. Even though there are points in this book that really tug at your heart strings because of the books topic, the characters find the humor in finding one another again and getting to know who they have become as individuals and friends

This book was cute. I expected more of a romance between Emmy and Oliver, but in a way I am glad there wasn't. This would be a great book for a young teen. It is about loss of a friend, finding ones friend, and getting to know the people they have become and the hardships of a teen thinking most of his life he was abandoned to find out he was abducted by his other parent. Emmy and Oliver do form a tighter than friendship bond, but there is nothing sexual in this book that would make in inappropriate for a teenage girl looking for a book to crush on.

Good book!

its really a predictable love story... but still a good story. I enjoyed reading this book.

Nothing Special

Interesting premise to select a girl suffering from OCD as the protagonist. However, this is not an in-depth analysis of the crippling side effects of the disorder, yet a thinly veiled attempt to add dimension. Typical story where cool girl falls for outcast with a twist so obvious from the start, I felt manipulated.

This could have been brilliant, but it's banal and the ending is implausible; don't need a Ph.D. to decipher that. Narration was bland and did not feel connected to any of the characters.

OCD like you've never seen it!

What made the experience of listening to Every Last Word the most enjoyable?

This will be another book I suggest to #yearofya May chat and I just loved Audible's Amy Rubinate as she narrated Samantha (Sam's) grappling with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) from the age of 11. Sam decides to keep this secret from her friends, who are not really nice girls, and there is a slippery slope in the pecking order of their friendship. So things begin to change when one day a girl a few lockers down talks to Sam in school and as she gets to know Caroline, Sam begins to see what a true friend is. I liked how vulnerable Sam was but how strong she was when it came to swimming, confiding to her doctor in weekly sessions and trying to control her OCD's dark thoughts and obsessions. I learned so much about this disorder from this book and the author has a NOTE at the end with important information.

Great story! Gives me a new perspective on its subject!

I loved the story. Being a straight man, I used to not think much about homosexual people. Now I have great sympathy for them, because I realize that they often have to go through a great deal of pain and grief just to be able to show affection for someone they truly care about. This book actually made me cry, which is a nearly impossible feat for a book.

It also helps that all of the characters are furries! I'm sorry, but anthropomorphic animals will always be cuter to me than humans.

I would definitely recommend this audiobook to my friends because I know they will fall in love with the characters and the story like I did when I first read this book back in 2009.

What did you like best about this story?

Waterways has been one of my favorite book from Kyell Gold. Ever since I first read this story, the characters has provided inspirations for me during difficult times of my life. I find myself relating to the things that happen to Kory in the story, some of which parallel what was going on in my life at the time. I've read and re-read both the entire book and sections from the story multiple times and it helped me find the strength to believe I can get through the obstacles I was facing and that things get better. Then there were a couple years during which some very big events of my life took place and in that time I hadn't been able to revisit Waterways and many other books that I greatly enjoyed. However, when I saw the author's blog post about the audiobook release, I did not hesitate in clicking the add to cart and buy button and listening to the story felt like falling in love all over again. I was pleased that I remember all the things that happens in the book, but what came as a surprised for me was that it was a completely different experience than before. The past 3 or 4 years of my life had changed me and my outlook on things tremendously, but when listening to the story, I was reminded of a younger, more naive version of myself by Kory while at the same time I was seeing how much I had changed and grown. By the time I finished listening to the audiobook, I felt a sense that I also came out on the other side of my struggles just as Kory did with his.

What about Robert M. Clarks performance did you like?

Robert Clark's narration is by far my favorite from the audiobooks I listened to on audible, albeit I've only listened to about 7 different narrators so far. He puts so much life into each of the characters that I love and hate. I would definitely like to check out other books he narrates.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, it was really emotional for me, I cried and laugh and rewind to listen to specific scenes over and over.

Depressingly Delightful

Aysel feels the dark sludge of depression daily and seeks a friend for the end of the world on a suicide partners' website. The story is honest, real and ultimately hopeful. There's depth to this one, tying together the theories of kinetic and potential energy through a school project, the pact, the future of the hero/heroine, and surrounding family. Well written in an introspective, detailed teen angst manner. Loved it and Rebecca Lowman is amazing.

Will "reread" this on April 7th.

I would definitely "read" this book again and again and again. Amazing characters, amazing story. As expected, the rain washed away all the dirt, but the suspension goes on and on. And finishing this today -April 4th- of all day just make this story comes to life, make me ask myself, where am I in this story? or hundreds of stories like this? I would definitely "read" the last chapter again on April 7th. For all Romans and Aysels.

Great Underlying Messages

This novel was a good quick listen and was easy to grasp. The two main characters are a little unlikable at first because they don't even like themselves and are both very depressed/negative. But ultimately their relationship helps them to see each other differently. The narration is some of the best I've heard on audible yet.

What a title!

I was originally drawn to this book by its title and was not disappointed. I got into it and just wanted to keep reading. Very relatable for me on multiple levels.

I loved this book! If you are a fan of this series, it is a total must have!

The last 4 hours give a glimpse of all of the main characters in each of the other books and what's going on with them now. It is just beautiful and I loved that it brought back memories of each book and what I loved about each character.

Now I have to go back and listen to the whole series!

Sliders meets Cloud Atlas for Teens

What made the experience of listening to A Thousand Pieces of You the most enjoyable?

I used to love the show Sliders. Experiencing every possible new earth that could've been. Claudia Gray also gives a sort of Cloud Atlas some souls are meant to be together type of thing. Has some great twists. That's refreshing when it seems like so many books have become mind-numbingly predictable. While I would have preferred no hint another teen love triangle, this one doesn't seem so bad. But maybe I'm the only one who doesn't get a thrill from dangling two guys at once. It's so popular in YA, but I don't get it. Ok, I put my soapbox away. I gave it 5-stars all-around because it is well-written and so much FUN. Some really gorgeous sentences here. Glad to see this in YA! This my first experience of Gray's work and I can't wait to try her others.

What other book might you compare A Thousand Pieces of You to and why?

Timebound by Rysa Walker - similar rhythm but time travel. Full of heroic romance.

Every Day by David Levithan - Equally awesome. This person jumps into a different body everyday. It's thoughtful. No love triangle.

The Blood Vivicanti by Becket - Blood memories give Mary Paige the abilities of her victims, who don't die and experience euphoria when bitten. Full of adventure and gadgets.

A decent read

Everything. I love all her work; she's awesome!

No. And that's exactly why I didn't give it a perfect score. I enjoyed it and it kept me entertained, but it wasn't anything to rave about.

Any additional comments?

It was ok. I don't think there was anything wrong with the book, I liked the characters, the pacing was good, it didn't annoy me (not once, so that is saying a lot) and it kept me entertained. I just didn't LOVE any of it. Maybe I was just not really into the actual plot of the story, with the seasons and the rhythms and the conduits and all that jazz. In any case, I won't be jumping off the walls to read the second, but I most definitely plan on reading it.

Forced Love Triangle, Self-Absorbed Main Character

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really, I struggled the whole way through the book and dreaded listening to it on my daily commute. I was trying to give it a chance so I finished it, but I won't bother with the others in the series.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The premise is interesting, with the different seasons and magic. The forced love triangle was painful, but the worst was the main character's lack of growth. There were so many times that I just wanted to slap the girl for her selfishness and self-pity and yet there was no arc where she ever redeemed herself.

What about Kate Rudds performance did you like?

She captured the main character's personality fairly well, and some of the minor characters, though I think some work should be done to make sure the different voices stand out more from each other, especially with male characters which can be very difficult.

Was Snow Like Ashes worth the listening time?

No. Sadly, it was not.

I wanted to like this book, I really did, but the main character killed the whole premise for me.

Predictable but fun

I could see the final twist in the first quarter of the book, but it was a fun listen & I liked the performer. If you can suspend belief at the end, it won't bother you either. It's completely illogical but that's ok when your expectations are already that what will come will not be realistic.

The story's focus on 'teenage' love was too 'tween' for my taste. The main character focused so much on her 'first love' that it was too predictable that he was really the 'bad guy'. No depth....

Becca is my favorite author.

Becca is an amazing author. I can't wait to get to the next chapter, and yet disappointed when the book is over. The endings are WONDERFUL.

I have listened to the entire series, purchased the right title, right author. it's the wrong book when I listened to it
