Title: When the Moon Was Ours
    Author: Anna-Marie McLemore
    Narrator: Raviv Ullman, Bailey Carr
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 18 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-04-16
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 288 votes
    Genres: Teens, Romance & Friendship
    Publisher's Summary:
Longlisted for the 2016 National Book Award for Young People's Literature.
Anna-Marie McLemore's debut novel, The Weight of Feathers, was greeted with rave reviews, a YALSA Morris Award nomination, and spots on multiple "best YA novels" lists. Now McLemore delivers a second stunning and utterly romantic novel, again tinged with magic.
To everyone who knows them, best friends Miel and Sam are as strange as they are inseparable. Roses grow out of Miel's wrist, and rumors say that she spilled out of a water tower when she was five. Sam is known for the moons he paints and hangs in the trees and for how little anyone knows about his life before he and his mother moved to town.
But as odd as everyone considers Miel and Sam, even they stay away from the Bonner girls, four beautiful sisters rumored to be witches. Now they want the roses that grow from Miel's skin, convinced that their scent can make anyone fall in love. And they're willing to use every secret Miel has fought to protect to make sure she gives them up.
Atmospheric, dynamic, and packed with gorgeous prose, When the Moon Was Ours is another winner from this talented author.

    Very satisfying.
This is one of those YA novels that transcends its genre. Magical Realism with sympathetic characters and a bit of mystery. Tones of Virgin Suicides. Don't hesitate to read this lovely story!
    Difficult to Decide...
McLemore's prose is brilliant, and it's just the kind of abstract writing that I absolutely love to read. That being said, in my opinion she manages to take her talent for poetic wordplay and pile it on so thick and so often, it becomes redundant and weighs down the story. It's like a 3-tiered chocolate cake with chocolate filling and chocolate icing and sprinkles on top -- heavenly for the first bite but quickly overwhelming. I love her writing, but I just got so bored listening to paragraph after paragraph describing the redness of the Bonner girls' hair that I found myself desperate for something tangible to happen.
In the end, I couldn't wait to be finished with it. It has a lovely cadence, though, and I like to put it on when I'm having trouble falling asleep.
    Lovely
A beautiful story, reflective of the authors' life experience and that of her husband. Surreal and poetic.
I loved When the Moon Was Ours because it was both complex and simplistic. It had elements of magic and mystery, while still feeling down to earth and homey. I felt like I was at home, in the kitchen, listening to my grandmother tell a story passed down from generation to generation.
I did not understand when I started this book that two of the central characters were transgender. Following their storylines, and listening to their emotions and struggles and fears; it was just a beautiful story.
The cultural influences of both Latinx and Middle Eastern cultures was interesting and creative. To have the legends of La llorona and the cultural concept of Bacha Posh woven into the story just made it all the better.
Raviv Ullman and Bailey Carr were both phenomonal narrators. They elements they added to the surrealism of the book were beautiful. I loved it.
    I loved this story!
What great imagery and characters. I loved having an inside view of Miele and Samir as they grew into who they were.

    Critic Reviews:
"With rich romance and twisty political intrigue, The Affiliate is a breakneck fantasy ride that's perfect for fans of The Selection or Throne of Glass." (Susan Dennard, NYT bestselling author of Truthwitch)
    Members Reviews:
    Not a fan of Narrator
The story it's self was good, however the narrator kind of got on my nerves. I thought she tried to be "too breathy" all the time and she put inflection in weird spots that took away from what she was reading instead of enhancing it. It wasn't enough of an annoyance that I couldn't listen, but I found myself rolling my eyes numerous times because of the way she read parts.
    Disappointed
I had high hopes for this book, but it did not take too long before I began to be disappointed. The overall storyline was interesting, but it could have been so, so much better with deeper character development. I never grew even remotely attached to any of the characters and I only hung onto the story until the end because I was curious about the murders. There were so many things in the story that the author could have expanded on to engage the reader and bring more depth to the story, but instead she just stated things as fact and moved on. Returned both the book and the audible recording after finishing as well as the second one I had already purchased because I had no interest in continuing.
    Boring
Honestly this book was just so boring. It has great reviews so even though it started slowly I figured I would be patient and give it a chance. Ended up stopping in the middle of the "climax" and returning it because I just could not bring myself to care how it ended.
The main character obviously has some sort of special destiny/power/thing happening with her, but rather than focusing on that, she spends the whole book torn between two guys - one who tries to date rape her upon first meeting and his brother who is also only interested in getting to sleep with her. I'm all for a good love triangle but the author gives exactly one reason for the main character to be interested in both of them - they're hot. I need at least one redeeming quality to understand her interest in either of them.
I was also not a fan of the narrator as she made the female characters sound excessively whiny.
    blah
Would you try another book from K.A. Linde and/or Erin Mallon?
    I probably would not
What was most disappointing about K.A. Lindes story?
the character did some very stupid things.. The chick was very basic.

    Title: Holding Up the Universe
    Author: Jennifer Niven

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 3 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-04-16
    Publisher: Listening Library
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 313 votes
    Genres: Teens, Romance & Friendship
    Publisher's Summary:
From the author of the New York Times best-seller All the Bright Places comes a heart-wrenching story about what it means to see someone - and love someone - for who they truly are.
Everyone thinks they know Libby Strout, the girl once dubbed "America's Fattest Teen". But no one's taken the time to look past her weight to get to know who she really is. Following her mom's death, she's been picking up the pieces in the privacy of her home, dealing with her heartbroken father and her own grief. Now Libby's ready: for high school, for new friends, for love, and for every possibility life has to offer. In that moment I know the part I want to play here at MVB High. I want to be the girl who can do anything.
Everyone thinks they know Jack Masselin, too. Yes, he's got swagger, but he's also mastered the impossible art of giving people what they want, of fitting in. What no one knows is that Jack has a newly acquired secret: He can't recognize faces. Even his own brothers are strangers to him. He's the guy who can reengineer and rebuild anything in new and badass ways, but he can't understand what's going on with the inner workings of his brain. So he tells himself to play it cool: Be charming. Be hilarious. Don't get too close to anyone.
Until he meets Libby. When the two get tangled up in a cruel high school game - which lands them in group counseling and community service - Libby and Jack are both pissed, and then surprised. Because the more time they spend together, the less alone they feel. Because sometimes when you meet someone, it changes the world, theirs and yours.
Jennifer Niven delivers another poignant, exhilarating love story about finding that person who sees you for who you are - and seeing them right back.
    Critic Reviews:
"[Niven] creates two indelible characters and a heart-stopping romance." (Publishers Weekly)
"Written in short chapters of alternating perspectives, this is a thoughtful exploration of identity and self-acceptance, with commentary on overcoming adversities that will hit close to home." (School Library Journal)
    Members Reviews:
    We Need Diverse Books
Niven follows the movement and offers an obese heroine and a hero with prosopagnosia. In the world of YA, her writing style is engaging as was this book. Her first, All the Bright Places, was amazing. This one is interesting, but lacks the connection between the two main characters. They just started liking each other after a rather traumatizing beginning and I never understood why. Seemed a little forced.
    Decent Story
It wasn't horrible, certainly, but I guess I was just expecting more. I knew the ending before the halfway point and the closer it got to the ending the more I felt the author just rushed to finish. The relationship between the main characters felt inauthentic at times, and it took some time to warm up to Jorjeana Marie's (voice of Libby) speech style and cadence. All in all it's a decent read if you're used to Jennifer's writing style and want a simple teen "love story".

"There's much to like about this sweet love story. West allows the sworn enemies to reexamine themselves in a believable way; Lily considers that the person she becomes around her nemesis Cade is not her best self - and that the same could possibly be true for Cade." (School Library Journal)

This story was swoon worthy. Perfect high school love story. I want more! Kasie West has become my staple!
    Great romance story
Great book; One of my favorites. But narration of male voices is meh and the lyrics which are supposed to be sung never sound right in any audible I've read lol.

    Publisher's Summary:
From number-one New York Times best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes a riveting new story about friendship, survival, and finding your voice.
For some people, silence is a weapon. For Mallory "Mouse" Dodge, it's a shield. Growing up, she learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it's been four years since her nightmare ended, she's beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime.
Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone - spending her senior year at a public high school. But of all the terrifying and exhilarating scenarios she's imagined, there's one she never dreamed of - that she'd run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn't seen since childhood, on her very first day.
It doesn't take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she's not the only one grappling with lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider's life spiral out of control, Mallory must make a choice between staying silent and speaking out - for the people she loves, the life she wants, and the truths that need to be heard.
    Members Reviews:
    My only regret...
The story was pretty good. I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator, but the story was sweet.
My only regret is that I didn't count how many times Mallory mentioned Rider's dimple. Seriously. She talked about that dimple A LOT.
    It Was Ok
Very predictable but an easy listen. Not one of her stronger stories. If you're looking for romance, I say skip. It is a coming of age story and that's it.
    Great, compelling novel.
Many life lessons wrapped into the story.
I would recommend this book to my mother and my daughter, there's so much depth.
    One of my favorites!
I have liked all the books I've read by Jennifer Armentrout. She is an amazing author.
This book was wonderful. I fell in love with the characters. My heart hurt for them at times. I laughed with them at other times. This was a great story in more than one way. It can teach you a lot about loving yourself and not letting your past destroy you.
The story was really good. The narrator was off.
The Problem with Forever is a YA contemporary about self discovery with romance. Others would probably disagree with the order in which I labeled it. It is from the POV of Mallory Mouse Dodge. I would put this as young as 12-13 years old because it is very tame romantically but does bring up abuse and death. I think is a great book for a girl who might doubt herself when it comes to interacting with others or public speaking.
I have always like/loved JLAs books. I had preordered the book way back when preorder came out. I really wanted to read this book but I had no time to sit and read, so I got the Audible upgrade to listen while getting things done. Ill be honest. I did not care for the narrator in this book. She felt flat and it was missing so much. Her male voices were laughable. Lets just say I only listened to an hour of this before I switched solely to reading. Yes I did listen to the audio clip prior to getting the Audible but that small selection of the book was probably the best the narrator read.
Overall, I felt the story was about Mallory discovery of her as a 17 year old girl.

    Publisher's Summary:
Teen and adult fans of All the Bright Places, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, and Everything, Everything will adore this quirky story of coming of age, coming out, friendship, love...and agoraphobia.
Sixteen-year-old Solomon is agoraphobic. He hasn't left the house in three years, which is fine by him. Ambitious Lisa desperately wants to get into the second-best psychology program for college (she's being realistic). But how can she prove she deserves a spot there? Solomon is the answer.
Determined to "fix" Sol, Lisa thrusts herself into his life, introducing him to her charming boyfriend, Clark, and confiding her fears in him. Soon all three teens are far closer than they thought they'd be, and when their facades fall down, their friendships threaten to collapse as well.
A hilarious and heartwarming coming-of-age perfect for fans of Matthew Quick and Rainbow Rowell, Highly Illogical Behavior showcases the different ways in which we hide ourselves from the world - and the ways in which love, tragedy, and the need for connection may be the only things to bring us back into the light.
    Members Reviews:
It's illogical not to give this a try
I adore John Corey Whaley, so listened to this one right away. His writing is funny, at times, self-deprecating, and non-verbose. He's not a wordy writer, everything is precise.
Solomon is a high functioning boy, suffering from agoraphobia with two loving parents and a grandmother. The panic attack involving a fountain a few years prior pushed him to stay at home and Lisa, the girl who was closest to the scene hasn't forgotten him since. She enters his life with slightly dubious motives; using him as a project for her admission essay while helping him in the process. You can guess what happens next, but Whaley takes the story from predictable plot to a step above infused with his humor. By the end of the book, I loved all the characters and bought into the story.
If you've read his other novel, "Where Things Come Back," this is a true departure as the other was extremely and wonderfully odd with a few twists and parallel stories. This book is more straight-forward and down-to-earth. Both are from the mind of a talented young writer.
    Worth the Listen
What other book might you compare Highly Illogical Behavior to and why?
I am a fan of All the Bright Places and almost all of Rainbow Rowell's books. With that being said, I liked how Highly Illogical Behavior wasn't too much of a predictable ya novel. As a grad student in psychology, I found it cute and endearing, because Lisa reminds me of my younger, striving self.
    Amazing
This book was fantastic. I couldn't stop listening until it was finished. I even teared up when it ended. Highly recommend!
    6/5 stars
I loved the book it was the best book I have ever read. Its pretty relatable to an adolescents point of view.
    4 stars
I enjoyed this and I'm giving a 4 star rating from a teen librarian's perspective. I think it illustrates teenage life and pretty accurately, and I think a lot of teenagers could relate to at least one of the main characters.

Loved this book. Loved the performance. Loved it all. Must have more! I hope the 2nd story holds up to the 1st.
    awesome!
I loved this book. I wanted to finish it in one listen. Had me hooked to the end
    Good listen
I liked this book but the lack of a backstory really left me not knowing who I should root for. Besides that the story was good and I plan to continue the series on audio. The narration really kept me engaged in the story also. Overall 3.5 stars
    Ruined
I did not like this book !! It was too violent!! I do not recommend it!!
    Great writing style, bad story.
Em is shown as a badass in the first chapter, then never becomes that character again. Cass her love interest is seen as defiant to his father the king and never becomes that character much at all. this is a four kingdom fight told through the tiny pinhole of Em and Cass arguing for several chapters. The war in this book is 3 out 37 chapters. They argue about stuff you don't get to see. The book is called Ruined, but you never see the kingdom of Ruina or see many of there powers. She makes it sound like stuff just fly around or happens without provocation. Only 3 ruineds are in this book and 1 has no magic. What the he'll is that magic you ask. Well ghost like pushing or people just fly back or die with no explanation how. It just happens. Weird. The ruined are seen as powerful yet they are almost extinct, so powerful at all. Their weakness is a blind fold. What? I can't hurt what I can't see? Oh and a flower called...what for it...Weakling. GTFOH

If I Was Your Girl is a universal story about feeling different - and a love story that everyone will root for.
    Critic Reviews:
"[Narrator Samia] Mounts eloquently depicts the changes that take place after Andrews surgery - when he becomes Amanda.... Mounts expresses the delight Amanda feels as girlfriends accept her and gentle, thoughtful Grant falls in love with her. Mounts provides a bittersweet tone as Amanda blossoms with the tender feelings of first love even as she fears revealing her secret. Her feelings are juxtaposed with her fathers fear for her safety amid the narrow-mindedness of the small Southern town where they live, which Mounts suggests through the judicious use of regional accents." Great Book!
It help me deal with my prejudices through a really engaging story, read by a terrific narrator. This is a book that lots of young people should read and a lot of educators as well. I was forced to grapple with, and I am still grappling with what I would have done if I were any of the characters: amazingly complicated.
    Absolutely Amazing
Coming from a transgender girl of 23, this book just captures the feelings and emotions I feel and have felt for so many years, so perfectly. It doesn't fit every trans persons story exactly, but I do think many people can still really connect to it. For me, having transitioned and had surgery, and living "stealth", it literally felt like Amanda could have been me had I come out a few years earlier than I did. This was one of the first times I've actually felt like the author was speaking to me. The audio performance was amazing. Samia captured who Amanda was, and throughout many parts you can feel her emotion come through as she sat behind that microphone narrating the book. Absolutely an incredible story and listen, I highly recommend. And I just want to say thank you to the author Meredith Russo for writing this. It really means a lot. Thank you.
    If I Was Your Girl
This was a really good audiobook! I felt that I could really understand the emotional struggle the main character went through. I felt that I could understand her pain, her fear, and her desire to be loved and accepted for who she is. I also felt that I could understand her growth and strength in accepting who she is and how the support and love her parents helped as well.

From the New York Times best-selling author of Reconstructing Amelia comes a fast-paced teen series where one girl learns that in a world of intrigue, betrayal, and deeply buried secrets, it is vital to trust your instincts.
It all starts with a text: Please, Wylie, I need your help. Wylie hasn't heard from Cassie in over a week, not since their last fight. But that doesn't matter. Cassie's in trouble, so Wylie decides to do what she has done so many times before: save her best friend from herself.
This time it's different, though. Instead of telling Wylie where she is, Cassie sends cryptic clues. And instead of having Wylie come by herself, Jasper shows up saying Cassie sent him to help. Trusting the guy who sent Cassie off the rails doesn't feel right, but Wylie has no choice but to ignore her gut instinct and go with him.
But figuring out where Cassie is goes from difficult to dangerous - fast. As Wylie and Jasper head farther and farther north into the dense woods of Maine, Wylie struggles to control her growing sense that something is really wrong. What isn't Cassie telling them? And could finding her be only the beginning?

    Don't give up.
This story is certainly not what I expected from the previews and blurb, but I did enjoy it. I have to admit that the second quarter bored me a little and I considered giving up. But I'm certainly glad I continued on and finished the story. Now I'm curious as to when a sequel will release, as I'm that intrigued. The narrator was fabulous, and I think she's what kept me listening.
Started off ok, but then just painful
The beginning of this book started off ok - lots of suspense. But, as soon as what an outlier is was revealed, it just got super painful and repetitive. I would not recommend this book if you prefer books that are well-written (i.e. not trite, not tell-y vs. show-y).
    Confused!?
The main character did not address a lot of her own questions leaving the reader frustrated and confused.
    Poorly written, not for adults
Poorly written suspense novel that is reflective of the over inflated "self" among Millenials. The protagonist exhibits a number of unattractive qualities that all justified in the end because she finds out that she is different. The characters react in dramatic and over confidant manners that are typical of over entitled teenagers.
Story does pick two third way through in terms of the suspense and pace, but ending doesn't fail to disappoint again as unbelievable.
    Confusion at its best
I kept listening to this book in hopes that SOMETHING would make sense. Even until the very last word... I'm still confused!
