A must read!

Great book. It opened my mind and heart to allow me

to forgive myself for past indiscretions. It shows that we can overcome as long as we have God in our lives, and the will. Would highly recommend this. It's a great read.

A Beautiful Woman - A Beautiful Story

One sometimes wonders what it would be like to meet someone famous, someone who has accomplished something significant in life, someone who others admire, respect and want to emulate. Not only have I met Norma Dougherty through the pages of her book "Island Girl - A triumph of the Spirit," but I have met her, gotten to know her, and am impressed with the reality of her spiritual triumph over excessively difficult periods in her life. I found Norma's writing to be highly captivating as it relates her real world perspective on a fairy tale life with some profound insights which are highly thought provoking. Of course the book chronicles some of the excitement and thrill of being recognized on the world stage as a beauty queen, but Norma Dougherty also is candid about the pain, the problems, and the pressures of being Miss Dominion of Canada, and contestant in the Miss World, Miss Universe, Queen of the Pacific, and semi-finalist in Miss International. In all of the unexpected highs and unwelcomed lows in her life, Norma Dougherty beautifully relates how through it all she grew in her faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Just as her outer beauty is evident in the pictures included in "Island Girl," her inner beauty becomes increasingly obvious through her writing about her personal relationship with Jesus. "Island Girl" is a beautiful story, about a beautiful person, written in a beautiful manner. At a time and in a culture where women often struggle with issues of self-worth, I highly recommend reading and reflecting on the book, "Island Girl." Just as I got to know Norma Dougherty during the time that we served together on the National Board of Directors for Stonecroft Ministries, I would encourage others to get to know her through the pages of her book.

You won't be able to put it down!

I heard parts of Norma's amazing story years ago and knew about this book. I couldn't wait for it to be released and was spell-bound by the details of her story! As a rambunctious little girl dreaming about the airplanes that soared over her Prince Edward Island home, I related to her mischievous pranks and imaginative fun with her 9 brothers and sisters.

That Michael got some help.

What else would you have wanted to know about Iain Maitlands life?

Did he ever learn to express his love in the way the Michael needed? Are his jokes to cover his emotions ever funny? It seems he breezes right over Michael's life with so much non-emotion that it's hard to tell if he owns his part in Michael's pain. This book ended in sorrow for me in that I couldn't feel any loving bond between Michael and his Dad, and his Dad and his own issues.

Honest, raw, open and soul destroying!

A fabulous personal experience of a family's journey together battling mental illness.

Whilst there were points where I found myself screaming at Iain in the main I applauded his unfailing honesty.

The ending wasn't as I expected and that pleased me.

Thank you for sharing so openly. I have no doubt that in doing so you will be a great support to those on a similar journey.

Would you listen to Report to Briselda again? Why?

Yes... If I'm ever in "hot water" with my lover, I'd go back and reference some really "cool" things to say to make things better. This book is either written by the most prolific lover since Don Juan... or the ultimate "silver tongued" devil. A master of the spoken word...

What other book might you compare Report to Briselda to and why?

Cyrano DE Bergerac? Don Juan? Like I said... Totally smooth responses to an ultra suspicious woman's questions about the sincerity of her suitor.

Which scene was your favorite?

When she asks him about his infidelity to TWO of his former wives... She painted him into a corner... and he makes it out!... Unstained!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Throughout the book, there is a sense of intensity with which the principal pursues the "love of his life"... Briselda. His apparent undying love drives him to bare his not-so-lily-white soul in an effort to convince her that he is NOT the man he once was. That whole undercurrent was pretty moving...

Any additional comments?

A new "tone" for narrator Al Benelli. I've listened to many of his books and he generally sounds like a New York newscaster, but this time he sounded more like a southern preacher... almost like Morgan Freeman playing the role of a minister.

Hopeless and relentless romantic

Where does Report to Briselda rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

Report to Briselda ranks at the top of all of the audiobooks I've listened to so far. Don Peavy seems hopelessly determined to find love and marriage at his own peril!

What other book might you compare Report to Briselda to and why?

I wouldn't compare the plot to Romeo and Juliette, but I do see similar intensity to find and share love. Mr. Peavy is determined to be married at all costs, and it seems as though nothing or nobody will stand in his way to accomplish his goal.

What does A. T. Al Benelli bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

A. T. Al Benelli's voice inflections and expressions certainly added life and meaning to what this author must have been feeling. Mr. Benelli sounded like he was telling his own life story, as though he felt the pain and disappointment in each of Mr. Peavy's marriages.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The most touching moment in the book for me was when Mr. Peavy left and divorced PC to find that her terminal cancer had returned. That had to play heavily on his heart and mind for a long time, especially since she lived such a short time after he left her.

Any additional comments?

I commend Mr. Peavy on such a well-written and moving narrative, with all of the special effects of life, love, marriage and disappointments.

I find myself in awe of the courage and wisdom that Sophie Sabbage brings to her experience with cancer. I almost wrote âbattleâ with cancer, but Ms. Sabbage shows the transformational possibilities of taking a different stance toward life-threatening illness, one of inquiry. She offers the book as a compass, a means of charting your way forward when youâre lostâwhether from cancer, another health challenge, or the exigencies of life itself. Witty & Engaging

Once I started listening to "Perils of Cyber-Dating" I was hooked. The story is witty, engaging and the tone set by the author - who reads the book - is friendly and affable. It felt as if I was talking to my "girlfriends who lunch out"

Funny, informative and courageous!

I met Julie professionally circa 1980, so her story is uniquely.intertwined with my own memories of our evolving, decades long friendship. We work in the same industry, but hearing her courageous personal tale has given new respect for her wisdom, courage and wit. I thoroughly enjoyed this memoir and applaud Julie for successfully reinventing herself. I'm very proud to be in her circle of friends.
