I love Jude Deveraux books. I've read them all. Her Montgomery family books were great.

I enjoyed this audio book.

The narrator did a wonderful job changing voices , moods and roles. The book itself was good too, I enjoyed the subject matter and the portrail of small town life.

Solid Romance

Okay, I didn't notice the "Don Quicks-Oat" mispronunciation. I did notice a fun story.

Most of the book is completely unbelievable, but I'm fine with suspending belief for 10 hours.

I have not read any of Rohan series so I can't really compare it to the other books. I did think Shameless was fine as a stand-alone novel.

I will warn you that the sex scenes are explicit. The heroine is totally sexually repressed and learners the ways of love through the hero. It's pretty much a sexin 101 class, but with the occult. Good times!

Strong entry in this series

I really like this series. The characters aren't perfect and I prefer them that way. There are some laugh out loud moments, especially with Richmond (the butler?). There are enough teasers throughtout the book to indicate the next book in the series will be about Brandon (Benedick's brother) and Emma - two very flawed and interesting characters. I can't wait for that one.

I love Anne Stuart's Rohan books. I didn't like the third book as much as the first two, but this one was very good. (Ruthless and Reckless are two of my favorite audiobooks.)

I'm responding here to Susan who complained that the narration was unbearable. Susan Ericksen is one of the most well loved and well respected narrators in Audio Books. She is flawless in every book that she reads. And if she doesn't say Don Quixote quite the same as you do, consider that you are from Georgia.

Ericksen began her auidio career in west Michigan when Brilliance Audio was a start-up company. The amount of work she does to get her characters voice and accents right is amazing. Check out her biography from Audiophile Magazine. She also works hand in hand with BBC productions for their recordings and is renown for her study of accents and ability to do various English accents, depending on the character's location and background.

She has received so many awards it's hard to count.

I write this knowing it may not be read. But I listen to so many audiobooks, that I am shocked when someone goes off on one of the absolute finest female Narrators on audible. Only Rosalyn Landors as widely respected.

Love this family.

What made the experience of listening to Shameless the most enjoyable?

I enjoy the Rohan family stories. The Rohan's (both husbands/wives/heroine's) are fabulously fun personalities.

Suzanne Enoch writes a good story and creatures believable characters. This is a very good book and the series is the best. The narrator is fabulous and brings the characters to life! ENJOY!

Self-absorption with a soup??on of spoiled

This is coming up as one of those with an absolutely self-absorbed spoiled brat of a girl and a gentleman who is trying to do right by his dependent family. Has nothing good to portray about females and the 'lesson in love' for this one is probably 'live in separate housing'. Granted, I did not finish it so if there is a saving grace trope planted near the finish, I just could not stick it out long enough to find it.

Fantastic Story and Narration. Loved it!!

What a great book. Fantastic characters, dialogue, and story. I listened/read this book in one sitting. I enjoyed every single second of it. The narration made a great story even better. Strong funny, witty characters, wonderful dialogue, hot and steamy sex. I really like this author she is a wonderful writer. If you are a Historical Romance fan you will love this book!

I absolutely love Tavia Gilbert she is my all time favorite narrator. 10 stars for the narration.

Story was great, narrator was awful.

I find it a little irritating when a series uses a different narrator for each book in the series, thereby changing how the characters voices, and tones, are expressed. The narrator in the first book (The Truth About Lord Stoneville) was great; loved how he portrayed the voices. The narrator of the second book (A Hellion in Her Bed) was okay, but again, the tone he used for the characters was different. (For example, using a snide tone for a character that was portrayed as insolent, but laid back in the first book.) The narrator in this book was just awful. She couldn't hold the accent and in parts the characters sounded Irish, not English. And, again, the tone wasn't right, especially for Oliver's character.

Some consistency would be nice. Do the narrators ever do their research before recording a book to see how the previous characters have been portrayed (e.g. sarcastic intsead of angry)? That would be helpful.

meh

I was just looking for a quick little romance novel... and I know and expect the 'romance' formula so that wasn't what bothered me. For starters, the characters were irritating, especially the female heroine... She just couldn't shut up about her 'books' - which became annoying after awhile, especially since it was promised to her that she could keep writing them.... For another, the first time they experience a little passion, it went too far too fast without any buildup...and then the next time it happened at the pond it lacked any kind of heat ... Next, they get married and she hires someone at her wedding to spy on her husband? Kind of ridiculous, she doesn't even give him a chance to be a husband before she's spying on him... The beginning had promise but it became more annoying as it went along. Not worth a credit in my opinion

Didn't like Narrator

The book is not bad. However, the narrator gets on your nerves. The book is set in London. The narrator is from Northern England (Yorkshire most likely.) It started grating on my nerves from the second sentence she spoke.

For an american comparison... It would be like having a story set in New York City and having someone from the South (with a heavy southern accent) narrating the story and thus turning all the characters in NYC into Southerners with Southern accents.

I enjoyed the book. The hero was exceptionally charming. Sabrina is a good historic author. Justine is one of the good historic narrators.

Love the teacher and the rake. I believe it was perfectly made plenty of cliffhangers and hot love. Very humorous also well worth credit I gave it 5 1/2 stars.

Great Story..splurge on the unabridged version

I really LOVE Garwood novels and bought this abridged version because it was cheaper and thought that I would enjoy the faster read. I was very dissapointed with how rushed everything was . The unabridged version of this novel is much BETTER!!!

Rebellious book

This book started out good, but then jumped too fast to come close to being realistic. Also, the book is not narrated by Anne Flosnik. The book is narrated by Elizabeth Swain. Had Anne Flosnik narrated the book I think I would have liked the book better. The narrator could not do male voices. I did not enjoy listening to the book by this narrator.

Read the book instead.

I've discovered that these types of books just don't translate well when narrated. The female attempts to capture a man's voice (especially with a British accent) make the men sound like either pompous asses, or very effeminate. Some parts of the narrations were just embarrassing and very silly to listen to. I guess if you're going to read a romance novel (which can be pretty silly and juvenile anyway), it's better to just read it, and not listen audibly.

This is the second time I've read this book. I read it years ago. It continues to be one of my favorites.

Where does The Devils Heiress rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

This is one of my favorites. The hero and heroine are well written. He has just returned to England after Waterloo and trying to adjust to civilian life. She is trying to recover from an abusive relationship involving her family's' trying to force her to marry a truly evil man who mysteriously turned up dead. Did she kill him for his money? He was not the type of man to leave his wealth to a fiancée and yet his will seems to indicate he did that. The skills Hawk learned trying to gather intelligence during the Napoleonic War are put to use trying to determine whether she is as innocent as she first appears.

Simon Prebble doesn't just narrate the story, his wonderful voice creates the atmosphere and pulls the listener into the story. This story is perfect for his talent.

Who was your favorite character and why?

George "Hawk" Hawkinville. He is brilliant, thoughtful, a true and loyal friend and a dangerous enemy.

Have you listened to any of Simon Prebbles other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never been disappointed with any of the audible books I've heard him narrate. Even when some of the storylines were not as strong as others, he has the ability to bridge the areas of weakness and keep my interest.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely. It is hours long but it is a page turner.

OK Story - Narration Terrible

This narrator does an OK job with the women's voices but should not do men. Her interpretation of the main male character was so grating, I considered quitting part way through the story. I won't download any other books narrated by Anne Flosnik.

To Desire a Devil. Don't we all at times!

I totally loved the end of this series and unlike some was not disappointed. For someone who was held a prisoner for so long and for woman handling her own and almost on the self these two people would know what they want. Not surprised that they were attracted to each other. She fellow in love with the young man in the portait. So when the men appears its hard to separate. I like the narrator it was one of the reasons I started this series in the first place for I own other audio books narrated by her. To each his own try the sample you won't be disappointed with the ending. I was just sorry the series ended.

An engaging listen

Ann Flosnik remains one of the best narrators of the Romance audio genre. The story was refreshing and different. I couldn't wait to listen on my way to and from work. One morning I actually drove past my job. I can not wait for the next ttle in this series.

Hoyt is a super star! Im in tears finishing this.

This was a great book. It wasnt as beloved ny others, but I believe the buildup of the 4 stories and the 4 men and return of the earl of Blanchard was unbelievably heart wrenching and so damned endearing. I love Reynaud, I love Beatrice. My only wish was more time for them after he realized his feelings were so strong. I'm sad this is over. What an outstanding series. I sick I've read all of Hoyt's books. Can't wait for more.

And I'm going to speak to Anne Flosnick haters: anyone who can't appreciate her after these last three books has no taste. My god, she reads a love scene better than ANYONE one audible. I hope she reads every Hoyt with perfection. I ask that listeners go back and listen to her love scenes in To Seduce a Sinner (book 2). Those are some of Hoyt's hottest written scenes and Flosnick reads with a fevered pace that got me blaming, giggling and mesmerized.

I ask that everyone hating Flosnick to put aside their first opinion. I, too, was not comfortable after Susan Deurdan and Rosalyn Landors, for this type of voice. But she has been the reader for many GREAT writers, and for their entire series. Once I got used to her, I realized that she wrings every emotion, every feeling from the words of the author.

A comfortable story

This book is a very comfortable tale of Britain between WWI and WWII. The narrator does an excellent job supplying a variety of voices to add depth to the characters. I enjoyed hearing about daily life in the 1930s. That said--this is a continuation of an earlier DE Stevenson book --Miss Buncle's Book. The reader needs to be aware that it picks up where that book ends. However, they are very different books. I found the first book to be very funny. The exchanges between the characters and their reactions to life in the village of Silverstream were at times laugh out loud hysterical. In this book the character development and exploration were more superficial and spotty. For me the humor missed the mark. It was, as I have said before, a comfortable story but a bit plodding. Less quirky and in the end less entertaining. I had expected and looked forward to a continuation of the story telling style of the first book, it just never happened. Still--all in all --a pleasant listen.

Charming, funny, gentle yet witty story

This charming English village story is only a very little less witty than the first book of the series, Miss Buncle's Book, which sets the bar almost unfairly high for this genre. Elegantly crafted, delightful and amusing story chronicles Miss Buncle's happy marriage to her publisher from the previous book, a village romance, and the interactions of various quirky folks in Miss B's circle. It is a "nice" story but NOT insipid! If you like Jane Austen and Mrs. Gaskell you will enjoy this well-narrated tale.

Even better

I very much enjoyed the audiobook version of Miss Buncle's Book, so was delighted to find Patricia Gallimore's reading of the sequel, Miss Buncle Married. I was delighted to discover that she did an even better job reading this book than the first in the series! The characters come to life, and take the listener to the English Village of Wandlebury, where we and Miss Buncle, now Mrs Abbott, get to meet her new neighbors and experience village life to the full.

I love Miss Buncle!

This is just a great fun story! THere is a little romance and just good clean english fun. Life in a small village. Ms. Stevenson really does a great job with character development. I found that once I start listening I don't want the story to end. I think Miss Buncle is someone that most of us can sort of identify with. This is a book that the children and I can comfortably listen to while working together on some kitchen project or riding along in the car.
