    Short but extremely good
Normally I don't bother with books that are under 8 hours, but I have to confess this series is pretty awesome. The world of Warmachine has a depth and uniqueness all it's own. I don't play the table top game, but this book really made me fall in love with the world and I was very entertained.
    Marco
...Marco's voice is a little different from the first book... other than that I enjoyed it a lot :)
    great listen
so excellent! the narration so complimented the story. a most thrilling look into the iron kingdoms.
    Undeadlightfull
Good book with a very good plot line. A worthy second book and still as spot on as the last
    Great book
The book was well written. The story line kept you engaged. The characters made you have a connection to them.

We need the rest of this series
This is a great story with excellent narration. It has a great fast pace and you really feel the characters start to come to life, sadly though the rest of this series isn't available yet on audible. But this story does have a good enough ending to listen to as a stand alone book.
    Get The Next One Too
I've read this full series (6 books) through twice now, and picked the audiobook up for easy background noise.
My only complaint about the book, is that it barely scrapes the top of the vast world Mr. McCullough has developed, and leaves so many things hinted at, that I always find myself yearning for more. Luckily, Mr. McCullough has written five more books in the series, and none of them disappoint.
I have nothing but praises for Mr. McCullough's engrossing story telling, his great use of the English language, and a vast appreciation of the realms of mythology and history from which he draws inspiration.
    Happy reading!
    action/adventure
lots of action. little romance, some drama. some told through conversation, but most told through description.
    pop corn fun
This book reads/listens a lot like Brent Weeks The Way Of Shadows series of the same theme. I get the feeling this author was referencing The Way Of Shadows as he wrote. It is pretty good, but not original.
I will be following the series.

    The Ending I disliked
The Story it's self was Great but I think that the ending left a lot to be desired
    Where's Book 2?
I looked for book 2 immediately after listening to this one & couldn't find it on audio? Why disappoint me by not having it on audio?
This book enthralled me so much that I had to hear book 2....Still waiting. One of the best books that I've heard in awhile & I am an avid audiobook fan.
    Surprisingly Good
Would you listen to Birthright again? Why?
Yes I believe I would just to see if I missed anything, but especially if it takes a long time to get the next book in the series.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Birthright?
There were several memorable moments. The slaughter of innocents, the awakening of the valor, Jordan's memories and the destruction created because of them, the meeting with her grandfather, and that refrigerator.
What does Bodine Boling bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Boling has a good grasp of the story's flow and is able to bring bring all aspects of the characters to reality with her calm, deliberate voice.
    Any additional comments?
I received this audiobook as a promotional gift from the author and audible.com but at first was wary since I've received other audiobooks from promotions and was not impressed. When the story started out I was again feeling disappointed but kept listening. The first two chapters were very frustrating because the reader is thrown into the main character's life without any explanation which makes it tough to follow, but by chapter 5 things begin to make sense and I wanted to hear more. There were times in the story when I was wondering if it was just another Heroes, X-men, or Harry Potter but the story developed nicely into it's own enjoyable entity. Thank you for the audiobook.
    Very disjointed in the beginning
This book is really tough to get a handle on at first. It jumps all around and it is difficult to really get a read on what is happening.
The story takes it's time unfolding, slowly sharing it's secrets. I really liked Jordan and wanted to love her story. There are just so many things that were either unanswered or took too long to reveal.
The fact that most of the book is from her POV limits how much the reader knows. We only get things as she does, which isn't quick. The world building was much slower than I would have liked.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Bodine Boling, who is excellent. Her compelling narration keeps you listening, even when the book feels slow. She has a steady swift read that keeps things moving. I really enjoyed her voices and the distinctions between the charters. She has a soothing yet youthful tone.

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
I walk toward the sea. The endless surface of the water extends to the horizon, whichever way I look.
Our world is small. We are on our own, and we only have ourselves to depend on. We rely on the Force deep within us, as taught to us by our forefathers.
If I were to walk westward from here, I would come across a barrier - the Wall. Behind it, there are Fools. At least, thats what everyone says.
    I have never seen one.
Leia lives on the Island, a world in which children leave their parents to take care of themselves when they are ten years old. Across this Island runs a wall that no one has ever crossed. The Fools living behind it are not amenable to reason - they believe in illusions. Thats what The Book says, the only thing left to the Eastern Islanders by their ancestors. But when a strange man washes ashore and Leia meets a Fool face to face, her life will never be the same. Is what she and her friends believe about the Island really true?
Or is everyone in their world, in fact, a Fool?
    Members Reviews:
    Luc and Leia? Hmmmm
Luc and Leia are twins, who at ten are expected to leave home and live on the island together with all the other kids. I wasn't sure what to expect, I'm not usually a fan of Dystopian, and the character names threw me for a loop at first. I'm glad I hung in there though. On to book 2!
    Inventive dystopian world!
Who was your favorite character and why?
I definitely loved the main character, Leia. She's interesting and the author wasn't afraid of letting her make mistakes and feel uncomfortable things. She is a clear thinker and a strong person and I had fun listening to her tell her own story. The "faith crisis" element to the story is something I wasn't expecting from the book, and enjoyed. I'm excited for that to continue through the series!
What does Coco Bell bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Coco Bell had a calming, inviting storytelling voice that threaded emotion in at just the right places. I felt she understood Leia, and got in touch with the other characters too. She doesn't change voices completely for different characters, but she made it clear when others are talking through slight tone and rhythm alterations. Sometimes with dystopian YA series the narrators go a bit dark with the narration, but Bell kept Leia's tone positive and even while maintaining the seriousness of events taking place.
    Any additional comments?
I found the world building in this book to be super tantalizing. The slow release of information about the island and the religion and the past forces you to keep reading so you can find out more, like a good mystery novel would. I kept guessing at what the end would reveal, but when I finished the book it was still a huge surprise. I would also say, don't be turned off or weirded out when you find out what "the book" really is - by the end is makes SO MUCH SENSE and is just another brilliant part of the world building. If you love dystopian but don't want something that's a ripoff of Divergent or Hunger Games, READ THIS BOOK. It's so unique and the main character is clever. So... yeah I'm off to get Book 2 now!
    Great twist
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
    I really enjoyed this story.

    Publisher's Summary:
Artificer General Sebastian Nemo has faced myriad dangers while serving his king and kingdom, but none so fascinating and sinister as the Convergence of Cyriss.
In the wake of an unprovoked attack on the Cygnaran town of Calbeck, Nemo and his forces hasten to confront the strange clockwork soldiers and machinery led by a young warcaster prodigy named Aurora, Numen of Aerogenesis. Nemo soon learns of the Convergences plans to transform Caen and its people to suit their enigmatic goddess, who favors machines over the living.
Amid this clash Nemo must withstand the temptation of the Convergences message to those who, like himself, are fascinated by technology. Aurora proves to be a different sort of enemy than he has faced before - something of a kindred spirit, albeit one bent on destroying all he holds dear.

    Better than the Butcher
    Any additional comments?
Not a bad book, though far from great. It was an acceptable foray into the world of the Warmachine miniatures game/Iron Kingdoms role-playing game. It was certainly a far better story than the horrid "The Warcaster Chronicles: The Butcher of Khardov" book which was a mess (and I reviewed on Amazon.com). I really hadn't read much about either Cygnar and Nemo or the Convergence of Cyriss. It sounded like this took place after "The Devil's Pay: Dogs of War, Vol. One", which is also available from Audible.
Scott Baker's pronunciation of some words was odd, for example he would say "lonce" instead of "lance", but other than that his performance was good.
It would be nice if these shared-world novels, novellas, and short story collections were linked so one could see which ones were available. I do plan on picking up more of the Iron Kingdoms books in the future, probably beginning with "The Devil's Pay".
    Sorry
This story is like 20 saltines without the salt or any water. Maybe it's the faction. Really wished a more interesting story with Nemo.
    A great read.
I play Convergence so the book gave me a real insight into Aurora as well the whole faction.
The narrator did a good job and the story is solid.
you have to be a cygnar/cyriss fan
If you dont care about these characters before you get this book the writing wont help. highly recommend Into The Storm though. that one if simple fantastic.
    great story
one of the best ik stories yet. the glimpse into nemos back story and the development of the cyrisists is a great world building plot line.

Samantha "Sam" MacHorne and her Devil Dogs need a contract, and when one comes in that leads to the haunted Wythmoor Forest, the company moves out with warjacks and slug guns at the ready.... Sam and the Devil Dogs may be relaxing in Tarna, but its not by choice - theyd rather be employed than resting up. When a dangerous job offer comes from "the old man", Sam takes the Devil Dogs and their newest recruit, Dawson, on a perilous hunt to capture an unidentified warjack before their rival Steelheads or the horrific Cryx make a claim on the never-before-seen technology.
Whether their mission will be worth the risk remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Sam and the Devil Dogs will do whatever it takes to bring home The Devils Pay. A novella of the Iron Kingdoms.

Bark as big as their bite
If you could sum up The Devil's Pay in three words, what would they be?
    Funny. Enjoyable. A family.
What other book might you compare The Devil's Pay to and why?
Into the Storm. Because the Devil Dogs act just like the Malcentents... Just with a few more ladies.
Which character as performed by Steve Baker was your favorite?
Dawson was a good character to see the Dog's interaction with eachother, and he and Sam seemed to have sparks of chemistry. Sam is an interesting leader: one time being a caring older sister, the other being a no nonsense leader.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The Dogs of War will Howl.
    Any additional comments?
My only wish is that they continued to story in the next volume.
    Look for volume 2...
    Any additional comments?
The story in this book continues in "Dark Convergence" by the same author, though with different characters being focused on. I listened to them out of order and that was okay because of how the incidents are only tangentially related.
I enjoyed the book, though some of Steve Baker's pronunciations are odd. The story is reminiscent of reading a pulp story when considering the length and pace of the story. I'm looking forward to reading more of the books.
In the Iron Kingdoms, Small Stories Reign Supreme
What made the experience of listening to The Devil's Pay the most enjoyable?
I really enjoyed the narrator's pacing in this audio-book. There's a great sense of emphasis in the right places. There is some witty banter in this book and the narrator hits the timing really well.
What did you like best about this story?
There's a lot of Iron Kingdom's books out now. One thing I've learned: The smaller the story, the better the book. Correia's "Storm" books, about inconsequential grunts, tell compelling tales; while the books about more important characters, such as Caine and Butcher, feel often inclined to worry about the world and setting. Dave Gross gets some of the Iron Kingdom's B-listers (or C-listers) in Sam MacHorne and her Devil Dogs, a group of down on their luck mercenaries when a big contract comes in. We follow Dawson, a new recruit, learning the ropes. Luckily he's not altogether generic and his interests in the rest of the group allow secondary characters to really shine. Gross uses Dawson to explore Sam, the Dog's creation under her guidance, why they hate the Khadorans, and the role religion plays in some of the men.
There's no big overarching story here.

It's been several years since the Druid Prince, Ren of the Undivided, and his half-Faerie companion, Trása, stumbled into to the reality where the Faerie are all to be eradicated by the Matráchái. With the help of the Pete and Logan Doherty, the unsuspecting human twins stranded with them, Ren must find a way back to our reality to save his twin brother, Darragh, from a fate worse than death. Not even the additional help of a dispossessed Merlin, a loyal pixie or a ninja leprechaun is much use in a world without magic. Not when you're wanted by the police and helping your brother involves busting him out of the toughest prison in Europe. To make matters worse, the Matráchái have their own plans that threaten every magical race in existence.
Only the Undivided hold the key to stopping them, and even the Faerie Brethren have turned to Ren for help. Ren will have to risk accessing the memories of long dead, Matráchái, which might send him mad, long before he learns anything useful. And under no circumstances, can he allow Brydie, trapped by the Djinn in a stolen gem, to be released to fulfill the prophesy he has seen. But the cost may prove too high, because Ren's nightmares have returned and the closer he comes to saving Darragh and stopping the Matráchái, the more likely the nightmare, that has haunted him since childhood - the nightmare where he murders two innocent children - will come to pass.

Bits are interesting but the storyline drraagggsss
The story in itself is well thought out but I get the feeling the author was reaching fill in spots just to make the story line longer, add more pages to her book. Maybe she had a contract for so many pages in her novel, so many words, kinda like this review is doing!!!
    d
Loved these books. Captivating and fast moving. Going from one mystical world to the next kept you interested. I'm glad I took a chance on the first book which lead me to finish the other 2 in a day. I highly recommend this trilogy if you like mystics and magic, intrigue and plots, fairies and more.
    Satisfying finish
This was a satisfying finish to the series. All of the threads of the story line were neatly tied off, with just enough thread left showing to plant the seed for the next series. The Dark Divide was too much shuffling of chess pieces and not enough plot development, but Reunion was a definite improvement.
One of the features of JF's writing that I like is the occasional subtle hint of her likes and dislikes, such as fraudulent psychiatrists that fabricate trash to justify their own existence. She manages to do it with style without shoving her views down the reader's throat.
    couldn't put it down...
Well book three was a long time in the coming, but it was worth the wait...
I found this third book of a ? Book series enjoyable...
Just a quick note, a little more proof reading as there were a few spelling/grammatical errors throughout the book (5-6) but at no stage did these detract from the storyline...
Question now is... Will there be a book four???
    Great Wrap Up
You have to start with the first book in this series to appreciate how complex the entire set up is. I enjoyed reading these books and the cross over realities that are created by Ms. Fallon.

Daimbert had hoped - he thought - for a little more excitement and adventure, but at this rate the king won't have a kingdom to come home to.

Another fantastical tale of Royal Wizard Daimbert
Would you listen to The Wood Nymph and the Cranky Saint again? Why?
Absolutely!! This story and the world of Yurt is extremely imaginative and original. Eric Vincent's voice SELLS this story with his performance.
What did you like best about this story?
Daimbert and his personality. He is still a slightly incompetent wizard who tries his best, and is a flawed character. He really doesn't try to be more than he is, and admits to himself when he is over his head. His moral dilemmas are what makes him so endearing.
Which character as performed by Eric Vincent was your favorite?
This is a tough decision. Either Daimbert's 1st person narrative voice, or Daimbert's predecessor the 'old wizard'. Eric Vincent's portrayal if a grizzled old wizard is flawless and laugh out loud hilarious! If you could sum up A Bad Spell in Yurt in three words, what would they be?Imaginative, witty, fantasical.I have listened to hundreds upon hundreds of audio books. Eric Vincent is EASILY in the top 3 narrators I have EVER heard. His voice of Daimbert(and the other characters) is absolutely FLAWLESS. I found myself just snuggled up on my couch and following along with the audiobook to my paperback copy of the book. It is about time this ingenious series has been put to audio, and the narrator could not possibly be better!!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
We could only be so lucky if Hollywood actually made the Yurt books into big budget movies.
    Any additional comments?
The World of Yurt books by C. Dale Brittain, are by far one of the best series of fantasy I have ever read. I have read thousands of fantasy books. I would never get tired of the world of Yurt, and the character of Daimbert. I wish there were 50 of these books to the series. Sadly there are only 6...hopefully the series will always continue. This is light hearted fanatasy--it is very whimsical, witty, and colorful. With each page, you can FEEL the world that Brittain has created. You simply don't read these books--you SEE them. Each novel is FUN, and you are saddened when the story ends because you persistently want MORE.If you ever get tired of reading the darker gritty stuff(which I do), 'The World of Yurt' books are the PERFECT escapism. You will not regret it.
    Light and Enjoyable
Quite an enjoyable book; short with plenty of lighthearted humor and good characterization. I continue to enjoy this world where Christianity and magic coexist in a relatively peaceful way.

    Publisher's Summary:
In the three years since defeating the Tharyngians at Anvil Lake, The Crown Colonies of Mystria have prospered. Colonists, whether hunting for new land or the Promised Land of prophecy, have pushed beyond the bounds of charters granted by the Queen of Norisle. Some of these new communities have even had the temerity to tell the Crown they are no longer subject to its authorities. To survey the full extent of the western expansion, the Crown has sent Colonel Ian Rathfield to join Nathaniel Woods, Owen Strake, and Kamiskwa on an expedition into the Mystrian interior. They discover a land full of isolated and unique communities, each shaped in accord with the ideals of the founders. Conflicts abound among them, and old enemies show up at the least useful moments. Worse yet, lurking out there is a menace which the Twilight People only know from folklore as the Antedeluvians; and westward penetration stumbles into their lands and awakens them. Alerted to this threat by his men, Prince Vlad petitions the Crown to send troops and supplies to destroy this new and terrifying enemy. The Crown refuses, citing massive debts from the last war. They dismiss Vlad's claims as fantasy, and impose a series of taxes on Mystrian trade to finance their own recovery. Faced with fighting an inhuman foe in a land seething with resentment against the Crown, Vlad must unite the Colonies in a common cause, or preside over their complete destruction.
    Editorial Reviews:
The second installment of the Crown Colonies fantasy series, Of Limited Loyalty, narrated like a wise English grandfather by Peter Batchelor, picks up the action three years after the Crown Colonies of Mystria defeated the evil Tharyngians in an epic battle and have now created a new rule and political order with which to govern themselves.
However, the opposing wants and desires of the recently free can destroy long allegiances and even incite explosive violence from within. And the Colonies still have plenty of enemies to deal with "on the outside".
This story is very much inspired by the Pilgrims and the beginnings of colonial America - but with even more carnage.
    Members Reviews:

Possibly. It was a good story and there are moments that I would like to refresh my memory.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Mage Hawk. Liked his outlook and coolness on life. There is more to him than meets the eye.

Yes, the first book. He does very well in this role.
