not her best by far

As a long time reader of Sheila O'Flanagan's books, this one I am afraid was probably the most uninteresting one I have read.

It seemed to drag on with nothing really concrete in its contents and at times was almost disjointed. I was terribly disappointed. That it not to say I would not read any future books Sheila may write as all her prior books have been great.

Charming and well written

An easy book to read filled with characters you can't help fall in love with. This book speaks to women in all types of lifestyle situations. I will definitely read more of Sheila's books!

As always for a Sheila O'Flanagan book it did not disappoint me. A lovely story well told with her usual flare.

Warm and wonderful

I have read every one of Sheila O'Flanagan's books and have enjoyed every single one of them. This seemed like a different type of book, and with a subject matter that many can empathise with. Deanna Ryan is a character that takes a while to connect with. After the initial first few chapters are read, you begin to get an idea of the bigger picture in the lives of the Ryan women. Lainey on the other hand is a wonderful character that you instantly love. She is the very successful weather presenter, as well as being a hopeless romantic. How the two women are mother and daughter is a mystery in the beginning of the book.

However, as you read on, you learn a little about Lainey's current life, the decisions she makes and the hopes that she has for herself. Alongside this element of the story, we see the build up and history of Deanna's life and the story that led to Lainey being brought up by her Grandmother Madeleine. The mixture of past and present was cleverly done and everything builds up to create the full picture.

The romantic element of the story is actually not that important in the grand scheme of things as the main focus is on the family element. Deanna was a hard character to get to know, she seemed intent on being only good at one thing and that was women's rights. As I read on I found myself disliking her even more, but thankfully as I neared the middle I started to see the reasoning behind her actions.

The book is featured in two main settings, one being Ireland where Lainey lives and works and the other being California, which is where Deanna lives. I loved the switch between the two places as it kept it interesting.

Barbara Morgenroth is a master of young adult fiction

If Wishes Were Horses is set vaguely in California's central coast region just north of Los Angeles. Caprice and her mother have moved west from Connecticut in the midst of divorce. Caprice's mother has purchased a small restaurant that will serve fresh, local food, and Caprice hates every bit of her situation. She misses Connecticut, she hates cheerful Californians, and she doesn't want to help out at the restaurant. The only good thing is that somehow, her mother has managed to bring Caprice's horse out west.

Caprice makes friends with a family that grows produce for her mother's restaurant, learns to play polo for her school, and finds herself making a place that fits her in California, even as she discovers how deeply and thoughtlessly her father has betrayed her.

I love the snappy dialog, the smart and well developed teen characters, and the way they react to life buffeting them around. Ms. Morgenroth writes realistic but satisfying endings ... perhaps of the "hero wins by losing" style, where the characters don't maybe get what they thought they wanted, but end up in a good place regardless.

There is no sexual content, just some mild romantic attraction.

My favorite Young Adult and Middle aged ladies writer.

I love the way Barbara writes. I have loved everything she has put her hand to. Even more than her horse books which are exceptional fun and entertaining, her series titled "Bad Apple" is delightfully involving and extremely refreshing in how it is written and presented. I loved the characters in it even more than the people involved in the Bittersweet Farm series which I feel a bit like are my extended family! ; < ) I highly recommend anything she has written and will continue to read anything that she puts out. I want all you horsey folks out there get on my bandwagon for this series.. 'cause I love it. I think you and your young teens will too!

Really Good

I thought this book was really good. I loved the romantic story in it, it was really cute and the characters seemed perfect for each other. This book also keeps you reading and you never want to put it down. I liked this book because it has good drama in it. I always like books with good drama and romance. I sometimes feel like I am living inside the book and that makes the book even more exciting.

Good book

If you liked the show you will like the book. It was easy to imagine the people as I read through it. Waiting for the next book installment is hard....kind of like having to wait for the following episode.

If you loved the series and love to read - you will certainly enjoy this. I read the entire thing in a little under 2 hours.

This particular story is pretty much the series finale with a little extra which is why I am giving it 4 stars.

Review of Norah Lofts' "Here Was a Man"

This book arrived on time in excellent condition. I am in the middle of it right time. It is Norah Lofts' novel regarding the substance of a man, Sir Walter Raleigh, who survived life under Queen Elizabeth 1 and King James 1. It is a worthwhile read of a man who may not have been the most prominent courtier-sailor of his time, but survived both as a favourite of Queen Elizabeth as well as a despised noble under James. I have not finished reading the book yet. However, I have a feeling it may not turn out well for our hero. Time will tell, but I will not; so that you who have not read the book, will not hear it from me. Any book by Lofts is exceptional. There is no better historical novelist than she. She devoted much time to researching her era and it's the particular knowledge that she supplies in each novel that intrigues the reader.

Love Lofts' other books..this one's a miss for me.

This one I couldn't finish. I don't know but everyone's dialogue seems particularly stilted in this one, and it reads like a "Love Boat" episode where Shakespeare and Marlowe show up as special guest stars. I really, really loved other NL books like "The Concubine" and "The Lute Player", but this one has been hanging around my Kindle carousel like a neglected guest at the party.

I couldn't even finish it

i dont know if it was just me but i could not even finish reading this book and a book unfinished to me is crime!!

Sublime Wordsmith

Nora Lofts is a matchless writer and my only complaint about this book is that it is too short. I could have read on endlessly simply to revel in her superior ability to use language. Lofts' works of historical fiction are mostly treatments of the lives of notables from England of the 1500s, and I have enjoyed her fictionalized biographies of Kathryn of Aragon, Anne Boleyn and now Sir Walter Raleigh. Raleigh is a fascinating character - part pirate, part warrior, part courtier, but at heart an adventurer and explorer, who was one of the first to venture into the wilds of the New World in attempts to bring back treasure for Queen Elizabeth I and win glory for himself through his exploits. All anyone these days seems to know about him is the apocryphal placing of his cloak over a puddle so as to prevent the queen from muddying her shoes. For a man so renowned in his own age, this is a sad remainder of his glorious career.

Great Christmas with Danny and Fay and Jilly Bond (my favorite)!! is as brilliant as ever bringing the characters to life loved it.

READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read the first Health and Happiness Society book. So it was quite exciting to see the next one. They are all standalone books, but they other characters from other books do make a small appearance. This is quite exciting because I love the focus of the book is more about health and happiness, then a little romance. Romance is not the primary focus. If you are looking for romance, then you might have to find another book. I do love reading romance but despite the little romance, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I honestly felt like anything that could go wrong did go through for Megan. Megan lost her boyfriend and her job. She ends up working for free as a chef for her twin brother's summer camp. She has a huge amount of credit card debt to pay off. When she gets to the summer camp, the kitchen is gross. The kitchen appliances don't necessarily work. She not used to cooking unhealthy foods. How is she going to last two and a half months there? This is definitely a coming-of-age book. I think everybody should give this a try. I do believe that health and happiness are vital aspects and I love how this is Megan's journey to that. Y'all need to read this book to see how her journey goes. Will she find her own health and happiness? I honestly love Megan as a character, sure there are moments where you want her to just tell everyone what is wrong. But ultimately I do think she is a strong, beautiful fighter. She is girl power.

Megan is Us

Megan is one of those characters that, to the people around her, seems like she has it all together. Nothing can phase her. She is girl power, hear her roar.

But the best part of Megan's story is that you get to know the girl behind the weight lifting, behind the professional nurse, and behind the smirk of confidence. Megan is real. She's vulnerable and facing the worst time in her life.

Honestly, this book was a bit of a trigger for me because I could relate to soooo many of the things Megan goes through, and it hit a whole bunch of buttons and feels that I didn't expect, but I wouldn't change that for the world.

Megan's story is finding strength in weakness and being okay with yourself, growing and adapting.

I'd recommend this to anyone - male or female - for a good women's fiction read.

Girl Power?!? More like getting Walked over power

Going to start with I loved Bon Bons to Yoga Pant. This book is well written. However my issue is this book is called Girl Power what I read is all about being walked all over by her family.
