    Critic Reviews:
"Regency romance with secrets, hidden rooms, and of course, romance.... Julie Klassen has hit this one out of the ballpark." (RT Book Reviews)

If you like marriage of convenience stories...
If you like marriage of convenice stories, you will enjoy this one. Sophie desperately needed help and Stephen was there to provide it, even though they were only strangers. Both of them had baggage from the past so you really want their relationship to succeed. I liked how their relationship slowly developed. They had a lot of misconceptions about each other that they had to overcome. I only wanted them to be together a little longer before Stephen had to go off to war. I'm glad that Sophie remained honorable even when Wesley made if hard for her. I'm glad the author told the story from Sophie's, Stephen's and even Wesley's points of view. I thought I would be torn between the brothers if I knew how Wesley was thinking but no...I still couldn't root for him. I had to keep reading to see how this couple could ever get their happy ever after and I was not disappointed. I enjoyed the romance, spiritual content, character development, and even the war scenes. I recommend this to readers who enjoy marriage of convenience stories set during the Regency period.
    Good Regency!
The Painter's Daughter had a good, strong storyline. The characters were quite human as evidenced by the mistakes they made. I loved the setting, Ms. Klassen paints beautiful pictures with her words! I think most of all I enjoyed the way Sophie and the Captain grew in their faith.
    From Amazon:
Julie Klassen Is the Gold Standard for Inspirational Regency Fiction
Sophie Dupont, daughter of a portrait painter, assists her father in his studio, keeping her own artwork out of sight. She often walks the cliffside path along the north Devon coast, popular with artists and poets. It's where she met the handsome Wesley Overtree, the first man to tell her she's beautiful.
Captain Stephen Overtree is accustomed to taking on his brother's neglected duties. Home on leave, he's sent to find Wesley. Knowing his brother rented a cottage from a fellow painter, he travels to Devonshire and meets Miss Dupont, the painter's daughter. He's startled to recognize her from a miniature portrait he carries with him--one of Wesley's discarded works. But his happiness plummets when he realizes Wesley has left her with child and sailed away to Italy in search of a new muse.
Wanting to do something worthwhile with his life, Stephen proposes to Sophie. He does not offer love, or even a future together, but he can save her from scandal.

    a very good read
I was thoroughly immersed in this wonderful novel set in remote parts of NSW, Australia. The story of people caught up in a pseudo religious cult was told with great insight and sensitivity. The difficulties face by the police in such a remote and sparsely resourced region, the role of the media and the personal needs and aspirations of the various characters were handled very well. Highly recommended.

When Ralf is killed, Heulwen's father considers a new marriage for her with his neighbour's son, Warrin de Mortimer. Sequel to The Wild Hunt is Good but not Great
The Running Vixen is the second novel by English author Elizabeth Chadwick and the second in her Welsh or Ravenstow trilogy (The Wild Hunt is the first; The Leopard Unleashed is the third). She went on to write many acclaimed historical novels most of which are not romances and not all of which are available in the US. The novels in the Ravenstow trilogy are romances but not typical of the genre. Be prepared for a different pace and different story elements as you'll see from my review.
Like The Wild Hunt, this sequel takes place in the Welsh Marches (in England on the border of Wales) and in London. The story begins about 24 years after The Wild Hunt, in 1126. It tells the story of Heulwen, Guyon's daughter by Rhosyn, his Welsh mistress who was killed in The Wild Hunt, and Adam de Lacey, who is Guyon's ward. It was Adam's father who was responsible for Heulwen's mother's death and after he is killed, Guyon takes the young child into his home. Adam and Heulwen are raised together like brother and sister but when Heulwen turns 15, Adam realizes he loves her as a woman. By that time, however, Heulwen has fallen for and married Ralf le Chevalier, who turns out to be a charming cad who is unfaithful to her. When he is killed by the Welsh in a raid, Heulwen comes home to live with her father. But she and Judith do not get along and Guyon is anxious to see her wed soon. Adam, who has been away on King Henry's business for several years comes back to find a now single Heulwen and the chemistry between them is evident. But Heulwen does't want another passionate disappointment so when her father wants her to wed Warrin de Mortimer, an enemy of Adam's, though she does not love him, she consents to a betrothal. The whole family travels to London at King Henry's command and the betrothal is to take place there assuming the King's approval for the match. That is how the story begins.
Chadwick does a great job of integrating history into the story so that you get a real feel for the time period. Once again she does a great job with the hero...Adam was a man to love. But like her stepmother before her (Judith, Guyon's wife) I found Heulwen irritating at times. By the way, Judith remained irritating in this sequel, still a shrew. The pace of this novel is measured and it won't keep you up at night as some romances will (I like being kept up late reading one I can't put down). What really disappointed me in this otherwise great tale was the last part of the book.

    Publisher's Summary:
The one you really want could be closer than you think....
The One You Really Want is a sweet, funny, romantic novel from best-selling author Jill Mansell. Not to be missed by listeners of Marian Keyes and Cathy Kelly.
It all starts with a shiny, red sit-on lawn mower.
When Nancy spies her Christmas present from her husband sitting on the lawn, she realises the jewellery she thought was for her must be on someone else. Her best friend, Carmen, isn't surprised (she never liked Jonathan) and persuades Nancy to leave Edinburgh and come and stay in her luxury London flat - far too vast for Carmen since her husband, millionaire rock star Spike Todd, died.
Soon Nancy's met gorgeous Connor O'Shea, who lives next door, and his daughter, Mia, is matchmaking - not least because she'd like to see the back of Connor's current pushy girlfriend. Meanwhile Carmen, who's always been certain she doesn't want another man in her life, feels a spark when a handsome charity worker called Joe calls round. But Joe's not quite all he seems....

    Lovely
A lovely story. Read very well. An easy and relaxing listen. I would recommend to my girl friends.
    Good book awful narration
I liked the book but found the awful Irish accents really off putting. Surely in 2016 you can get someone better than the leprechaun from the lucky charms ad to narrate, really spoiled the book for me
Great book... shame about the narrator!
This is a great Jill Mansell story, however the narrators accents are so awful it's off putting.
    Most horrendous narrator ever!!!
This book was entirely ruined by the awful narrator, the accents were terrible and completely inconsistent which was a total distraction from an otherwise nice story.
    Horrendous
Dont waste your money, poor plot, terrible accents , very badly read with low imagination characters.

    Great Read!
I hesitated ordering this book due to the reviews but it was the last one to the series so I ordered it and I loved it. Although Ree Lord Godwin was not the best of men, his character is explained but not excused. Each character has some fault as to why things are as they are due to certain circumstances in their lives but at the end the couples (Lina-mistress and Tom-vicar-brother to Ree) fall in love and Lord Godwin and Helene finally admit they have always loved each other and knowledge there have been misunderstandings between them that have kept them apart. I normally give my review on how well the story is written and expressed. I found it very well written and the characters well developed. The story had intrigue, forgiveness, acceptance, confessions, surprises, betrayal, love, and two happily ever after. The author as always allowed the reader to feel her characters feelings throughout the story. It was hard to put down the book and I am happy for all the characters in this series.
    Very good!
I loved both leads, each both genuine and quirky. There is a side story I wasn't so sure about at first...but as it evolved it almost became my favorite part. I recommend this book.
    A very unique story
From beginning to end, this story took you in a very unique direction. I found all the characters interesting and the hero and heroine fascinating. Not the usual road to a happily ever after but I couldn't put it down.
    Musical romance
Love the premise here of two star crossed lovers that have to offer overcome youthful foolishness to rediscover their love and music. One of the better books in this series.
    What fun....a great read
A wonderful comedy....I have previously compared Eloisa James writing to Mozart operas, and here is another . As a musician myself, I identified with many of the musical scenes, and laughed at the farcical plot. I have at least one friend who fell in love with a fabulous sound, and married the man who came with it!! The exaggeration of characteristics is something all fine musicians do. Ms James does it to perfection.... In fact I believe this novel is more a theatrical production, than a book....with the bonus of some great one-liners tossed in. Enjoy!

    My favourite Eloisa novel ever.
Several character arcs interweave skilfully in this delightful narrative. Justine Eyre has the perfect delivery and the characters are wonderfully flawed, which makes them effortlessly believable.
