    thumbs up!
This book was full of suspense at various points. I didn't want to put it down!
This book gets a thumbs up from me
I will recommend others read/ listen to it.
    Stunning and intense
This book is amazing, couldn't stop listening I was hooked from the beginning, recommended to everyone with a heart full of love. Love is a amazing thing.
    Brilliant Romance and Thriller
This book was surprisingly goodgood, really good. It starts off with a somewhat predictable romance storyline but because it factors in real life issues faced by immigrants, ADHD sufferers, females in the work place all struggling to fit in and get ahead in life. It then doubles into a dramatic edgey thriller that's full of unpredictable twists with the potential to destroy families, friendships, careers and. the rare opportunities at love. The book is well written and engaging throughout. The narrator also delivers superbly in most instances except with respect to the southern belle accent of Lilly. All in all, I found myself using every opportunity to listen to the book and felt that it was worth the credit and time!!
    Aweful
Truest dreadful, I advise you to not waist your money pick something else. The story was dull and I found it a chore to get into and gave up half way.
    on audio.....not the best
story was ok. but the voice of the narrator was not to my liking. spoilt the story for me.

Title: A Few of the Girls

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 12 hrs and 33 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-24-15
    Publisher: Orion Publishing Group
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 5 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Chick Lit
    Publisher's Summary:
Maeve Binchy's best-selling novels not only tell wonderful stories, they also give an insight into how Ireland has changed over the decades but how people remain the same: they still fall in love, sometimes unsuitably; they still have hopes and dreams; they have deep, long-tanding friendships and some that fall apart.
From her earliest writing to her most recent, Maeve's work has included wonderfully nostalgic pieces and also sharp, often witty writing which is insightful and topical. But at the heart of all Maeve's fiction are the people and their relationships with each other.
A Few of the Girls is a glorious collection of the very best of her writing, full of the warmth, charm and humour that has always been an essential part of all of Maeve's writing.
Read by Kate Binchy with an introduction read by Gordon Snell.
    Members Reviews:
    Lovely, heartbreaking stories
What made the experience of listening to A Few of the Girls the most enjoyable?
Knowing something about the context she is writing about...the echoes of Edna O'Brian and other good Irish writers
What other book might you compare A Few of the Girls to, and why?
Edna O'Brian - not as complex obviously but just as nuanced in parts.
What about Kate Binchy and Gordon Snell s performance did you like?
    The dialogue, real and rich.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    The introduction by her husband.
    Any additional comments?
I'm glad I tried this, enjoyed it very much.
    very enjoyable
loved the sequence of characters, very thoughtful provoking. loved the short stories captured my imagination
    brilliant
easy listening, also lovely mini stories that I think could have been extended however I realise it's better left to your own imagination . very enjoyable
    Disappointing
In the past have read Maeve Binchy novels and enjoyed them. This was not the case here. One story much the same as the next. Narration very poor too. I returned the book.
    Soothing
Took me a while to get into because of the short stories and I was waiting for a linking theme but after a few I found it lovely I have enjoyed MB's long novels more than short stories and feel sad that there will be no more
    RIP lovely lady

    Publisher's Summary:
All it takes is one word - yes or no - to decide Molly's future. As the clock counts down to midnight and the ball slowly begins to drop, Molly's picture-perfect boyfriend gets down on one knee and asks her to marry him. She knows she should say yes, especially considering the baby-sized surprise she just discovered she's carrying. But something in her heart is telling her to say no.... Now, Molly's future can follow two very different paths: one where she stays with her baby's father despite her misgivings and his family's unreasonable expectations and one where she ventures out on her own as a single mother, embracing all the hardships that come with it.
    Critic Reviews:
"Ferguson offers women's fiction a fresh new voice with her first novel...." (RT Book Review)
    Members Reviews:
A fresh literary voice with a charismatic story
"All the Difference" is a very cleverly written, thoughtful and emotional book that was a fun and dynamic read. The narration flows effortlessly and the reader gets completely caught up in the monthly paralleling stories of Molly's choice. It was a page turner, showing each chapter as almost a juxtaposition to each other and I found myself having a dichotomy of emotions for our protagonist. Without spoiling the story, in one thread you are grateful and annoyed for the circumstances, in the other you are comforted but worried about the circumstances, and on a human level, it is hard to decide and differentiate which fate is better. As the story progresses the dynamics intensify, evolve, show the complexities of life, and then reveals the innate knowledge of the human condition upon one woman's journey of a year and the changes that can happen in herself and in life. I am curious what the author writes next, as this style was not only unique but compelling.
***Note: to the credit of Ferguson, this genre is not my typical reading, yet I found myself flying through the pages with a curiosity and need to know how this story would conclude.
    Great Read!!
"All the Difference" tricks you -- at first, you think it's probably just an easy beach read with nothing to it, but it's surprising in its deliberateness and depth. Leah Ferguson does a wonderful job of keeping you interested in what's going to happen to the main character, Molly, and in a fresh way, too - it would have been so easy to write half the book, and then stop and say, "Well, here's what also could have happened." Alternating the 'yes' and 'no' scenarios was clever, and the writing is masterful because Molly's character and personality stays the same throughout, which I imagine is a really difficult thing to create and sustain.
As a second-time mom to a newborn, I can attest that Ferguson also aptly captures the reality of pregnancy and life with a newborn, with all of the emotions that come with it.

    Disappointed
I don't often give bad reviews but the I had really high hopes for this book. The premise of a mystery stemming from someone's dying words made my mind up to give Paige Toon a go. I can't comment on her other books but for me this one just meandered. I kept expecting some big reveal that never came. Even the possibility of an earth shattering confrontation was avoided at the end, a real shame because this book needed some grit. If you're after a 'nice' easy story this is for you. If you want something with a bit of intrigue and interest, avoid.
    Very Addictive
loved it, I just HAD to listen until the end. shame I have finished it
    AMAZING! As expected!!
I LOVE Paige Toon... listening to her books while I drive is the best ever invention and this one was just as good as the ones I've read myself ... hope she gets more in audio book version ASAP!!!

Detective Sergeant Megan Taylor once lost her heart to a man who was too charming, and she isnt about to make the same mistake again - especially not with sexy defence lawyer Scott Armstrong.
But when Scott wants something, he goes for it. And he wants Megan. One day shell see him not as a lawyer but as a man...and thats when shell fall for him. Isnt a man innocent until proven guilty?
    Critic Reviews:
"A fun debut." (The Bookseller on Do Opposites Attract?)
    Members Reviews:
Good romance with a little bit of mystery
Megan's got a problem, she is needed to appear in court, but her parents are not available to babysit. So against her better judgement she agrees to let attorney Scott watch her. She has a thing against him because he is a defended attorney who helps get criminals off. But perhaps she is prejudging the man a little bit as there is a valid reason that he is a defended attorney. To keep the truly innocent out of jail and then other more personal reasons. He quickly charms her daughter, but is that enough? Because of the end of her marriage, she doesn't entirely ready to trust a man. Can he possibly do something to change her mind? And is one of his current clients really innocent as he claims. This was a great contemporary romance.
A fun, thoughtful read - a real page turner
I enjoyed this story very much. Defense lawyer Scott is a charming man and that's his main drawback where Megan is concerned. The British police detective has been burnt before by a smooth talking man and she's not about to jump back in the fire. The fact Scott defends the people she's trying to get off the streets is merely another nail in his coffin where she's concerned. Scott's determined to change her perception of him but when a case comes up which involves him personally things fall apart.Their relationship goes through so many twists and turns it keeps you wondering until the last pages and makes you think about how important first impressions are and equally important to sometimes let them go.
    Good but not great
So... I'm baffled at why everyone praised this book so much... I won't say I didn't like it. It's enjoyable, sure, entertaining but is not the fabulous work of chick lit the reviews I read portrayed.
I didn't much like the main characters, couldn't warm up to either of them... All in all not a book I'd be recommending... I'm torn about giving her other novel a try, but not sure I will
I loved it. I read romantic fiction avidly and this ...
A real page turner. I loved it.
I read romantic fiction avidly and this is, by far the best book I have read for many a year.
Kathryn Freeman is a real talent.
    Disappointed
I can only comment about this story in contradictions.
It's well written - but boring. It's just a so-so Mills and Boon style plot and the characters leave me unengaged. Megan is a pain - though I understand where she's coming from - and Scott is a nice guy but still too cocky to actually be likeable.
The story has all the right things - characters with issues, sweet little girl whom Scott genuinely likes - but they are all clichés, and a collection of points ticked off a checklist of Things That Should Be In A Sweet Romance. Boring.

For readers who love to step into another life, time and place.
I absolutely loved this novel by Carol Drinkwater, author of the non-fiction seriesThe Olive Farm: A Memoir of Life, Love, and Olive Oil in the South of France. Her first (that I know of) hand at writing fiction inThe Girl in Room Fourteen (Kindle Single)is mesmerizing from page one. We meet Cecile, the most accomplished, successful lemon grower in the area. While we know this much about her, just as with anyone we think we know, we find there is so much more to her. She has an entire love story that has touched her entire life, in every way.
While I don't want to give anything away, I will tell you, this is a perfect book for readers who love a well-written story. You are taken to a time, a place, so well-told that you feel you are a part of everything. You will smell the incredible lemons, right down to her lemon cheesecake. You will feel her love story, her torment, everything.
I give this my highest praise. It would make a PERFECT gift for just about any adult reader. It's lovely and fine. It's also a story that you and your friends can discuss after reading, sharing it as a fine wine.
Highest praise and I can't wait for the next novel by Carol.
    The girl in room 14
Bittersweet!!!! As sweet as a lemon coins the phrase. Enjoyable, quick and easy to read, no- demands to lift up nor put down to read this quirky love story with an inevitable happy go lucky ending. Almost predictable, it's free flowing once-off read is enjoyable and pleasant.
The Girl in Room Fourteen: A Glorious Work
The plot of this short novel is fairly simple. It is the story of a young Frenchwoman who has an affair with a dashing, older Italian man. He arranges for her to take title to a large lemon farm in southern France, which becomes quite successful. They have a beautiful teenaged daughter. But they never live together due to his commitments to his family in Italy, and the woman rarely receives any messages from him. Finally, she learns from his nephew that he had died two years previously.
The glory of this work is Ms. Drinkwater's writing. Her literary style soars with her descriptions of the southern French locale, the love affair, and much else. She is more of a painter than a writer - regaling us with a pallet of vivid colors and hues. She is a grand chef whose menu varieties never seem to end.
If you want to read an English novel written at its highest level, you should read "The Girl in Room Fourteen". It is a verbal feast!
    Great holiday read
This was a truly enjoyable holiday read. Romantic,a little sad, but positive.
A perfect kindle read, for snuggling up in bed on a cold winter's night,or lying on the beach on a summer holiday.
    Roll on the next one!
    Never give up
I thought the book was very interesting and a good read.

    Very touching and Suspenseful
Ooh what a great read!! Full of suspense and character; compassion and treachery; love and contempt and rewarding kindness.
This book speaks to the realities of the difficulties in marriage, the grieving process, the effects of past trauma on our characters, the influences of society and friends; the traps and temptations of keeping up appearances; and, abusive or toxic relationships. It's a book that reminds us of the importance of kindness and its rewards can be both direct and indirect, immediate or long term. It's a really good book and I can understand why it's a bestseller!
    Wonderful
Wonderful story of family love and strife
Realisation of own expectations and others
Wish to know more of the story
    Average light reading
I liked the book overall but found the performance a bit difficult as Libby sounded so whiny. Perhaps that was the intention but I found it a shame.
I can never stop a book without knowing the ending but wish I had been able to do this with this one as I found it average and the simple plot a bit too drawn out.
    Easy Read
What did you like most about One Small Act of Kindness?
This was a lovely book that you expect to have a happy ending, but lots of twists and turns on the way and funny as well.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
    The opening one
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    laughed in places
Twee and irritating from the get go
The woman is introduced as a nervous, tweely plucky, incompetent fool. I prefer stories where the main protagonists are savvy and confident.

    A nurse's view of WWI
This book describes the differences in classes in England at the time of the first world war as well as the role of women during this time period. It depicts the horror of war instead of skipping over the unpleasant parts. The characters were well defined, displaying their faults as well as their virtues. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about English history.
    A Truly Worthwhile Read
Such an easy book to read. The detailed history of English life during the First World War unfolds so easily throughout. It was fascinating to learn just what was endured by so many brave men and women but the beautifully entwined story keeps the reader wanting to turn the pages. Really brilliantly written and a wonderful account of English society and attitudes of the time.
    Good Historical Story
I havent read a historical novel in a while and enjoyed this for the characters, the background and the references to the war. It was such an era that I only know of from TV and reading and I cant imagine how it would be like to be frontline nurse with frontline soldiers. I'm sure this happened alot in those days. A good little read.
    The Silver Locket
I had to force myself through the first five chapters....but once I got into it, it wasn't so bad. The story line is hard to follow at first if you aren't a history buff. Not sure I would take as many ridiculous risks as Rose did, to be with Alex, but in the end I suppose it all worked out.
A very well written historical novel
Most historical novels are long on love stories and short on history. M James has done the genre proud with this book. She has ably weaved a love story into the horror of World war ONE - so the reader has a chance to learn a lot about that tumultuous era. I highly recommend this book.

    Critic Reviews:
"[A] compelling, fast-paced read with a plot that builds inexorably" (Irish Independent on Beneath an Irish Sky)
    Members Reviews:
DON'T STOP Reading until the very end!
Where does An Irish Promise rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
An Irish Promise is absolutely one of the best romance/mystery books I have ever read. Isabella Connor is such a talented author. There were the BEST surprises though out the story. Characters are developed well and the story flows, even with flashbacks. Her use of a diary to take the listener back in time to events is very helpful. I am now a FAN of Ms. Connor and can't wait to read another one of her novels.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It is a toss-up between Finn and Rachel as to who is my favorite character. Finn has already completed his transformation by the time the story begins, but the story has more to do with Rachel's vengeance and her growth as her actions reap fruit that she had not planned on. Eventually her willingness to forgive has the most impact in the story.
Which character as performed by Noreen Leighton was your favorite?
Noreen Leighton is an excellent performer of Audible books. She pauses at the onset of scene changes and chapters, uses inflection well, and pronounces word correctly. Her use of an Irish dialect is very appropriate for this book. Her reading added to the enjoyment of this book, not distracted from it.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The moment that Rachel discovered who Finn actually was and when Rachel forgave her first bully rank equally as moments that I will remember from An Irish Promise.
    Any additional comments?
    A MUST read!
    Brilliant !
Captivating story, with a wonderful set of characters. Enthralling, I feel as if I got to know each one, with all the dilemmas , heart searching and revenge. Twists and turns all the way.
    Saved at the End
    Any additional comments?
The first half of this book is really a slog. It was hard to empathise with the heroine and her tragic life. The book was somewhat redeemed in the second half when the author pulled a few surprises out of her hat. The epilogue made me gag. You can only take so much happiness.
