Great, but Writing Could Be Better

A great into to the history of the Nubian kingdom that the Egyptians knew as Kush. There are not many resources out there for someone interested in Kush, or African civilizations/history in general. Certainly not in audio format. Most of what you do find will offer history only as "context" and instead focus on anthropological, archeological, or sociological perspectives. It's also hard to find a good balance between the afro-centric views on one extreme side of the spectrum and the Egypto-centrists on the other extreme side.

I was overall happy with this as an overview. It's fairly short, lacks detail, and is obviously written for a high school level audience, but it has a good scope and packs a lot of good information in.

The biggest flaw is the writing. As I mentioned, it sounds like it was written for a younger audience. Highschool... maybe earlier, going by some of the vocab choices and the style of prose. For example, instead of the word "allies", the word "friends" is used throughout the book. Sentences are short and simple to the point of coming off as unsophisticated. It's fine; I just assume the book was written to be more accessible to lower grade levels.

Would love to see some higher level, more detailed works on African history (Kush and Axum in particular, but also Mali and Songhai and others) on Audible. Africa's place in ancient history is important, widely underrepresented, and poorly understood by the general population.

What did you like best about this story?

This audiobook was a pleasant to listen to.. I would recommend this audiobook for families looking for a family-friendly fairytale to add to their reading list. Recommended young children

great story, my boys loved it

What made the experience of listening to The Land of Flames the most enjoyable?

My boys laughed several times at the characters and their witty/funny charms.

Have you listened to any of TK Kellmans other performances before? How does this one compare?

I loved the narrator voice. It reminded me at times of Morgan Freeman. The only thing I didn't care for was the way he did Karini (the main fairy)'s voice. It was such a high falsetto, it sounded like he was attempting to be funny, even in parts when the storyline wasn't comical. But for my boys, it just added to the joy of listening to it. I also thought some of the special sound effects were very well done.

Any additional comments?

This was our second fantasy by Cynthia P Willow. I listened to the audio version in the car with my boys. The characters were very memorable, and my children laughed just about every time we had it on. They also have gotten into imaginative play based on the characters of the story. They are already begging for the sequel.

As a mom, I loved how excited my kids were about this story. Way to go, Cynthia P. Willow. Thanks for giving my kids something to spark their imaginations!

Land of Amazement

What made the experience of listening to The Land of Flames the most enjoyable?

TK Kellman has an army of mythical characters in his head. He is a master at keeping them straight.

What did you like best about this story?

I really enjoyed the way that the story flowed. I was engaged every step of the way. The ending provided me with a cliff hanger that makes me want to listen to book two right now.

What does TK Kellman bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

I think that he his a fine actor. I am like the way that he act out each character.

LOVE Dr. Proctor!

My 3 children (ages 6, 9 and 12) love all of the Doctor Proctor books. We read all the books first, then we got this audiobook for a road trip. The reader is fantastic. He captures Nesbo's sense of humor quite well in his reading.

An Amazing Book

This story is so amazing. I found it really fun to read. I'm going to read the book again. I didn't buy the book on the Kindle store, my best friend bought this book for me, she said it is really funny and it has some Norwegian words. I always wanted to learn Norwegian words and my best friend is teaching me now how to pronounce the words. The main characters were Nilly, Lisa and Dr. Proctor. The three friends has to solve who stole all of the BANK OF NORWAY. Can the three friends solve the mystery?

Faery story that boys will love

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Another brilliant book from Stefan Bachmann.

This kid is a fabulous writer with an educated imagination and a great sense of humor.

What did you like best about this story?

The references to Dickens and the witty jokes, had us laughing, while the dark sinster plots had the kids on the edge of their seats.
