In prehistoric ages, humans had to constantly come up with new ideas and methods to help them survive. The persistent need of improving whatever exists in order to survive in a better way led to innovation.
Innovation occurs on various levels in our daily lives. It could be the use of a new product which was innovated recently by manufacturers, or the use of a new method that makes it easier to live life. Today, industries, companies, and individuals innovate on various levels to succeed in their objectives. Different industries have different viewpoints regarding innovation. There are over 40 different definitions of innovation, and every definition describes it according to the perspective of the individual or group authoring the definition. But all of it grinds to the fact that innovation happens when something new comes into existence. It could be a thought, a process, a method, or a product. Innovation is limitless and does not restrict itself to certain aspects only.
Innovation has existed since the existence of humankind itself. Humans have introduced different products, ideas, and services ever since they existed as hunters and gatherers. Whether it was the invention of the first wheel, the ability to harvest grains and turn it into the food we eat, or the use of fire to cook, everything required humans to come up with new ideas that can improve their current standards of living. Now we are dealing with innovation on a more complex level since we have already reached a point where our basic needs are met very effectively. This is why innovation has become so central to businesses and customers.

Title: Tell Me How It Ends
Subtitle: An Essay in Forty Questions
    Author: Valeria Luiselli
    Narrator: Laurence Bouvard
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 32 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-05-17
    Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers Limited
    Genres: Nonfiction, Social Sciences
    Publisher's Summary:
A searing, enlightening polemic about the tens of thousands of unaccompanied Mexican and Central American children arriving in the US without papers.
'It is not even the American dream they pursue, but rather a more modest aspiration: to wake up from the nightmare into which they were born.'
Why did you come to the USA?
When a child migrant arrives in the US all alone, this is the first question he or she will be asked.
It's the beginning of an official interview of 40 questions used by the federal immigration court in New York City, where Valeria Luiselli works as a volunteer interpreter for the tens of thousands of children from Mexico and Central America being detained at the US border.
But nothing is ever that simple. The children's stories are always shuffled, stuttered, always shattered beyond the repair of a narrative order. The problem with trying to tell their story is that it has no beginning, no middle, and no end....
    Critic Reviews:
"A remarkable little work that says more than books ten times its size." (GQ)
"With anger and lucidity, Luiselli depicts the nightmares these children are forced to flee in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, as well as the destructive ignorance and bigotry that awaits them in America." (Chicago Tribune)
"Harrowing, intimate, quietly brilliant." (The New York Times)
    Members Reviews:
A human portrait of child migrants
With the world being shaped by migration, this essay comes at a timely fashion. Exploring the nuances of this reality, Valeria Luiselli, a skilful and gifted Mexican writer knows the migratory experience first-hand having travelled across the globe. This compassionate, short book finds her in a head-on confrontation with daily reality.
Based on her experiences working as an interpreter for dozens of Central American child migrants, she speaks to those who risked their lives crossing Mexico to escape their fraught existence back home. To stay in the US, each must be vetted by the Citizenship and Immigration Services, a vast, impersonal bureaucracy. It's her job to help these kids, but in order to do so, they must answer 40 questions that will determine their fate.
The truth about the crossing may be much more brutal in reality, with 80% of women and girls who cross from Mexico to the US being raped, hence some of the children appear evasive when answering questions. But this book is fueled, in no small part, by Luiselli's bottles up shame and rage. She's aghast at the gap between American ideals and the way they actually treat undocumented children, yet her writing is measured and fair-minded.
Luiselli takes us inside the grand dream of migration, offering the valuable reminder that exceedingly few immigrants abandon their past and brave death to come to America for dark or nasty reasons. Fantastic read.

Where does Three Philosophical Works rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Number one. In terms of range, clarity, erudition, insight---it has it going on.
What other book might you compare Three Philosophical Works to and why?
some other books by k, maybe something by freud or schopenhauer. there is a similarity of outlook. a kind of darkly analytical quality.

    Title: Brown
Subtitle: What Being Brown in the World Today Means (to Everyone)
    Author: Kamal Al-Solaylee
    Narrator: Fajer Al-Kaisi
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 42 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-22-17
    Publisher: Audible Studios
    Genres: Nonfiction, Social Sciences
    Publisher's Summary:
Winner of the Shaughnessy Cohen Prize for Political Writing
Finalist for the Governor General's Literary Award for Non-Fiction and the Trillium Book Award
A Globe and Mail, National Post, Toronto Life, Walrus, CBC Books, Chatelaine, Hill Times, 49th Shelf, and Writers' Trust Best Book of the Year
With the urgency and passion of Ta-Nehisi Coates (Between the World and Me), the seductive storytelling of JD Vance (Hillbilly Elegy) and the historical rigor of Carol Anderson (White Rage), Kamal Al-Solaylee explores the in-between space that brown people occupy in today's world: on the cusp of whiteness and the edge of blackness. Brown proposes a cohesive racial identity and politics for the millions of people from the Global South and provides a timely context for the frictions and anxieties around immigration and multiculturalism that have led to the rise of populist movements in Europe and the election of Donald Trump.
At once personal and global, Brown is packed with storytelling and on-the-street reporting conducted over two years in 10 countries on four continents that reveals a multitude of lives and stories from destinations as far apart as the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, the United States, Britain, Trinidad, France, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Qatar, and Canada. It features striking research about the emergence of brown as the color of cheap labor and the pursuit of a lighter skin tone as a global status symbol. As he studies the significance of brown skin for people from North Africa and the Middle East, Mexico and Central America, and South and East Asia, Al-Solaylee also reflects on his own identity and experiences as a brown-skinned person (in his case from Yemen) who grew up with images of whiteness as the only indicators of beauty and success.
This is a daring and politically resonant work that challenges our assumptions about race, immigration, and globalism and recounts the heartbreaking stories of the people caught in the middle.
    Members Reviews:
    Global look at immigrant/migrant labor
So often discussions of race only include black and white, while the world has actually been filling up with brown people. Al-Solaylee looks at how brown immigrant workers survive in host countries all over the world, including Asia, the Americas and the South Pacific. He discusses the universality of colorism and the global economy that requires people to leave their home country just to earn enough to keep their family fed and housed. His theory is chilling that for uneducated brown people, your skin color determines your economic mobility.
The author uses many personal stories to keep the analysis grounded in real experience and not too theoretical. He spent months (years?) interviewing workers all over the world. Although the material can be grim, Al-Solaylee's writing style is warm and occasionally humorous, indicating that a real person did this fieldwork, not some dry scientist. I recommend this book for a look at how brown people survive in host countries all over the world, and to see how Mexicans in the U.S. fit into this dynamic (as a Mexican-American, that's my particular interest).
    An eye opener book
I liked this well written book. I think that people who are interested in undestanding the world where we live in will like it too.

A dangerous person without a conscience rarely looks that way. They often seem like the most charming and attractive among us. It is only when we are used or targeted that we learn who we're really dealing with - and often much too late. A trained mental health professional shares candidly about his personal and professional experiences with sociopathic individuals. Some basic guidelines for understanding this infamous personality style.
    Members Reviews:
    Have you ever wondered...?
Is your drug dealer excessively friendly and eager? Does your therapist express an interest in you that has led to thoughts of deep friendship or intimacy? Do you and everyone else at work adore a co-worker that everybody loves to go drinking with, wants to bed, hang out with, and has indicated that he/she thinks you are exactly ______________, which is by the way, exactly what you have yearned to hear from someone so unofficially voted as most-popular-ever? Well then my friend, you might be about to become the hit and run victim of a SOCIOPATH!!!
Don't let this happen to you! This book delivers easy to understand examples from a trained mental health professional of how you too can identify and recognize sociopathic behaviors in order to avoid becoming his or her mark. Just read it already! You've surely got an hour somewhere to squeeze in this little audiobook, don't you? Listening to this is a lot like a life insurance policy. Jill didn't read it and now she is a happy brainless sex slave. Mack didn't read it and he's now a drooling vegetable. Henry didn't read it and he's a LAMP SHADE!!!!!
I was given this review copy of this book for free in the exchange for my unbiased review and the hope it will serve as an incentive to finally check myself in.
    Sex, Drugs, and Sociopaths
Through personal tales of sex, drugs and what seemed like friendships Jonathan Jaye tells of his personal experiences with sociopaths and what signs to look for to see through the web of deceit they leave in their wake.
The title of the book is slightly misleading. Jonathan Jaye does not exactly tell you how to tell if your friend is a sociopath but does go through how to see through the smoke of someone who is. While the personal tales were interesting to listen to I found the last chapter the only one that really had good takeaways. If you are looking for a quick read to learn about how to deal with sociopaths that may be in your life I would say this book is worth the cost. This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
    lessons we learn
The book had a few stories of the authors life with dealing with some questionable people. It was a fast listen, the narration was good, but i dont think i learned much on how to see if one of my friends was questionable. I wish it was more detailed about how a psychopath works, and more clues to find them.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher
    Some good information
This audio book had some good information in it. I agreed with some of the opinions, but not all. I will definitely apply this to my current friendships/relationships. I received this for free for an honest review.
    Memoir and observations
How to Tell If Your Friend Is a Sociopath is a very quick read ostensibly about what sociopaths are like and how to identify them.

Title: Haunted Prisons: Can You Hear the Screams?

    Author: Roger P. Mills
    Narrator: Lynn Roberts
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 44 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-14-17
    Publisher: Roger P. Mills
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Nonfiction, Social Sciences
    Publisher's Summary:
There are countless books, TV shows, and movies dedicated to showcasing life behind bars. They show us how both violent and petty criminals interact. But what happens when things spiral out of control? When inmates turn on the guards and riots break out? Or when guards become power hungry and torture inmates?
A prison can serve a variety of purposes. It can be a place of rehabilitation where the system tries to reform the inmate and make it easier for them to reintegrate into civilian life. It can be a place that prizes punishment as a means to stop illegal behavior. And, in the worst circumstances, it can be a place of state sponsored torture that doesn't care if an inmate is truly guilty.
Though many of the prisons in this book tried to change an inmate's behavior through non-violent means, their systems almost always devolved into one of corruption.
Abuse, rape, unhygienic living conditions, and even murder make up the stories of each of these prisons. Their histories are dark and not for the faint of heart. The inmates and guards who lived, suffered, and died in these prisons still fill their cold, abandoned corridors with malevolent energy.
Before listening, be forewarned that not everyone who enters these prisons will be let out.
    Members Reviews:
Excellent addtion to Roger P. Mills collection of spooky, well researched books!
Roger P. Mills brings us another detailed, well researched book that is also spooky, and in this book, downright scary. This book explores the haunted prisons of the US and world, finding little known prisons and previously unknown details about the more notorious prisons. His writing is tight, smooth flow with excellent grammar. This author has the unique ability to report the history and make it spooky and scary without any clichés or over dramatizations. Highly recommend this book! I did receive an ARC pdf of this book free in exchange for a fair review, but I added the Kindle version to my e-book collection upon release.
    Don't even consider
Worse book I've ever read and I've read a lot
    Awesome read
This was an awesome book I couldn't put it down. I loved it and recommend it to my friends .
I thought the whole book was about haunted prisons, i was let down when other book previews were part of the book, will not purchase another one. The haunted prison parts were great, it was the other ones i did not like. So this book was a bit of a let down, had i known what was going to happen i would not have purchased it
Big let down for me, was expecting a book about haunted prisons, but got stories I was not interested in
    Informative yet eery.
This was a very informative yet eery book. I was shocked to read what happened to some prisoners within their time there. Chapter 2 regarding the prisoners on Green Island was just so unsettling to read what the Chinese Government did to them. So interesting to read but certainly rattling and creepy.

    Genres: Nonfiction, Social Sciences
    Publisher's Summary:
Education, employment, and home ownership have long been considered stepping stones to the middle class. But in Abandoned Families, social policy expert Kristin Seefeldt shows how many working families have access only to a separate but unequal set of poor-quality jobs, low-performing schools, and declining housing markets, which offer few chances for upward mobility. Through in-depth interviews over a six-year period with women in Detroit, Seefeldt charts the increasing social isolation of many low-income workers, particularly African Americans, and analyzes how economic and residential segregation keep them from achieving the American dream of upward mobility. Seefeldt explores the economic and political obstacles that have altered the pathways for opportunity.
Abandoned Families is a timely, on-the-ground assessment of hardship in contemporary America. Seefeldt exposes the shortcomings of the institutions that once fostered upward mobility and shows how sweeping policy measures - including new labor protections, expansion of the social safety net, increased regulation of for-profit colleges, and reparations - could help lift up those who have fallen behind.

Mobile will change everything - again.
Our love affair with our cell phones will grow even stronger over the coming years.
A recent study from PEW University says over 44% of us have slept with our cell phones. Honestly, cell phones are changing the way we live, work, shop, receive news and other information. The majority of Americans under age 18 don't know what a landline is and have never lived in a home that had one.
It's all part of a trend created by the introduction of the first smartphones. We are shifting to a culture of Internet on the go. Users want to be able to access the Internet wherever they go - on the beach, at work, in planes, cars, and automobiles.
Cellular companies are responding by dishing up larger data packages at ever faster speeds. Within the next five years it is likely all carriers will offer unlimited high speed data. Municipalities will run fiber optic cable in most metropolitan areas, offering free WiFi hot spots in direct competition with cable companies and cellular providers, and home WiFi could easily become a thing of the past. The wired home is fast evolving into the wired planet.
