Jesse Owens Overcame So Much to be the Best!

A really good look at the life and times of The Worlds Fastest Man, Jesse Owens, and some of the obstacles that he overcame in his growing up years and his triumphant performance at the Berlin Olympics, in front of Adolf Hitler none the less.

Jesse became a national hero, but still had to deal with a lot of the social issues and racial issues of the day.

Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 6 votes

Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7

Publisher's Summary:

Dear possible listener of this audio,

I want to be a writer, just like my Uncle Harold, who wrote a bunch of books about our friend Bunnicula. So I wrote It Came from Beneath the Bed!. Its about a wirehaired dachsund puppy named Howie who saves the world from a disgusting, evil menace named . . . oops, that would give away the story!

After I wrote my first book, my editor asked me to write another one. In Invasion of the Mind Swappers from Asteroid 6!, the lovable and smart (not to mention talented) Howie and his friend Delilah face their biggest challenge yet. Along the way Delilah gets turned into a squirrel and has to beg for acorns.

Then my editor asked me for a third bookand did I have trouble getting started! But faster than a writer can say What if? I came up with Howie Monroe and the Doghouse of Doom. When Howie is mysteriously invited to attend the Dogwiz Academy for Canine Conjurers, he and Delilah discover they must fight a sinister foe.

I wasnt sure Id be able to write a book again after Canine Quarterly said I would never win the Newbony Award! Luckily, Delilahs read a lot of Newbony books, and she helped me write Screaming Mummies of the Pharaohs Tomb II. Things get exciting when Howie and his best friend Delilah find a time machine and travel back to ancient Egypt where they uncover....the mystery of the Pharaohs tomb!

Uncle Harold says the books are exciting. Delilah says I have a lot to learn about writing girl characters. I have no idea what they are talking about. I just hope you like the stories.Your friend,

Howie

Love Fancy Nancy!!

The first book in the series of Fancy Nancy and they wont disappoint! Nancy loves to be fancy, anything that she does she adds an extra touch of glamour to it. Except that her family is not fancy at all and doesn't know how to be fancy. So, Nancy teaches them how to be fancy and they all go out to dinner dressed their fanciest. After a small spill at dinner Nancy learns that you don't always have to be fancy all the time.

This is a charming story and you can read it again and again. Nancy has so many fancy things on each and every page that every time we read it we see something that we haven't seen before. My little one loves this book and pulls it out frequently. This would be a great book for your little one.

Entertaining and educational

Love this Fancy Nancy series in a box, and my 4-year old granddaughter loves the stories and illustrations (which is Nancy's fancy word for drawings). Said granddaughter loves the box to keep the set of books in and has had me read the whole set several times. She likes learning the fancy words, and can even use the French ones correctly upon review.

Great price for 5 books

Great price for 5 books! We LOVE Fancy Nancy in this house. I love the introductions to big words and often find my 3 year old repeating them. We have slowly been purchasing all of the books by Jane O'Connor. I love that everything is so artistic on every page!!

We love Fancy Nancy

If I could give this series 10 stars I would. We love Fancy Nancy! We have almost every book and my daughter loves "Fancy Fancy"

She uses words like delectable and indelible because of Nancy and she is barely three years old! These books are so amazing! I can't wait for more!

I was so happy to receive our Fancy Nancy Order in the mail

I was so happy to receive our Fancy Nancy Order in the mail! I have a three-year-old daughter who loves reading Fancy Nancy books. I loved the case the books came in. The green handle is sturdy and easy to hold. The velcro piece stays together well. I loved that a variety of books came. My daughter has a variety to choose from. I think the product is priced very well and the quality is great!

What did you love best about Blueberries For Sal?

Love this book - it is so simple and yet speaks about how connected we are with nature

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration seemed sped up and the music is too loud, it matches the film version except for these two details which do take away form the reading

Title: Great Scientists and Their Discoveries

Author: David Angus

Narrator: Benjamin Soames, Clare Corbett

Format: Unabridged

Length: 2 hrs and 25 mins

Language: English

Release date: 11-01-11

Publisher: Naxos AudioBooks

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 22 votes

Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7

Publisher's Summary:

Nine remarkable men produced inventions that changed the world. The printing press, the telephone, powered flight, recording, and others have made the modern world what it is. But who were the men who had these ideas and made reality of them? As David Angus shows, they were very different - quiet, boisterous, confident, withdrawn - but all had a moment of vision allied to single-minded determination to battle through numerous prototypes and produced something that really worked. This is a fascinating account for younger listeners.

Members Reviews:

Brilliant!

Over the years my family purchased more than thirty of the Naxos Junior Classics. The discs were wonderful to listen to in the car on the way to school and other long rides. Both the kids and the adults in my family loved the Naxos stories and we learned so much over the years.

Great Scientists & Their Discoveries is one of the best Naxos titles. From Galileo to Michael Faraday, there are nine biographies of scientists, from ancient Greece to modern times. Their stories and discoveries are fascinating for kids and parents alike.

The text is narrated in part by Benjamin Soames, who reads quite a few of the Naxos titles and always does a fantastic job.

My family truly enjoyed the Naxos Junior Classics and I hope your family will, too!

Five Stars

Great production with engaging stories of important scientists.

Great for young scientists

Our 8 yr old loves listening to these stories.

Apology for previous review

I listened to the cd in it's entirety today and I realize that I was wrong in my previous review. Please dismiss it if possible. This was a very informative and well made cd. My six year old who loves science enjoyed it, and so did my husband and I.
