Aliza Foss versatile performance brilliantly captures the playful, buoyant spirit of Ellen Miles endearing childrens book about two big-hearted young boys, Charles and Sammy, who wont rest until they find the titular Patches, neglected by its owners and chained up in a garage, a suitable home.
Foss ability to convincingly portray the naiveté of Charles and Sammy, the brusqueness of Patches owner, Mr. Stephens, and the forlorn howl of the lonely pup will captivate childrens imagination in this cute, enjoyable listen.

We have read all of the calendar mysteries stories this year and love them.
I used this book as a read aloud for my first graders during the month of April. I do have a few students who would have been able to read it but the rest of them are not there yet so I read it aloud and we discussed each chapter. I would say the reading level is end of first grade- beginning of third grade (obviously depends on your child's reading ability). We have read all of the calendar mysteries stories this year and love them.
    Bedtime favorite
My husband and I read these stories to my daughter at bedtime. The kids solve mysteries and use critical thinking skills to solve problems.

    Weird Al Yankovich....
...all i can say about how well read, is it's done by Weird Al, that's enough said!
A wacky little story with TONS of energy
'Weird Al' Yankovic is an entertaining fellow, and his performance in reading his story is worth the price regardless of the content. The story itself is pretty good too, though not one I would have made much note of if it wasn't for the name on the cover. My 8-year-old thought it was hilarious. Probably a bit too rowdy for bedtime, however. :)
    Weird Al at His Best
What made the experience of listening to When I Grow Up the most enjoyable?
I loved listening to Weird Al read this story. The character came alive as Al acted out what he does with his voice. This is a great story to listen to and adds another talent that Al is great at.
What was one of the most memorable moments of When I Grow Up?
When the character goes lists how many jobs he wants to do.
What does Al Yankovic bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
He becomes the character. You can actually visualize what he is doing as he describes his many job asperations.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Definitely!
    Any additional comments?
I love this book. I want to get the book to go along with the audio recording. This is a great way to present books to non or struggling readers.

Entertained Two Kids On a Long Road Trip THANKS!!
I have to admit i enjoyed these stories as much as the kids. Zac is pretty cool and the Aussie narrator is perfect.Zac is a super spy kid who gets these James Bond style missions that he has to get done before dinner or chores at home. He uses gadgets and fights super villains, but its always appropriate for kids of all ages.Thank you Zac for a trouble free, easy road trip with two kids for four days. You legend!!
    Exciting spy story
My 7 year old boy loves these stories and listens to the over and over. The performance is excellent.
    Brief but fun
These little stories are very brief and pretty predictable but all in all, they were also fun and kept my 10 year old interested while we drove around town.
24 for kids - great support to the books
My 7 yr old has been reading the Zac Power books before bedtime, so I jumped on the chance to get the audiobooks as well. He was thrilled.
The narrator is Australian and reads the whole thing in a state of perpetual excitement.
Each case needs to be solved in 24 hrs - a fact that doesn't come through very strongly when you are reading the books. However, as an audio track, having the time read at you constantly does give a sense of urgency. It does appear that Zac doesn't need a great deal of sleep though .... or is that an adult just being a bit grumpy?
    We loved it!!
My 5 and 6 year old boys loved listening to each story before bedtime.

    My new annual Christmas Book
Would you listen to The Christmas Chronicles again? Why?
It's a little different from the traditional American Santa Clause stories. I really enjoyed the premise and the execution. It maintained a Christian connection without being evangelical. I think from now, every year when I'm decorating the outside of the house and buying for kids Christmas present charities, I'll be listening to the story. It will remind me of the rules regarding gift receiving once you've given gifts under Santa's name.
    Great story and recording
Would you listen to The Christmas Chronicles again? Why?
A very captivating story. Couldn't stop listening. Had to listen to the whole thing as I drove home from my daughter's after Christmas. Because I heard a few episodes on Utah Public Radio before Christmas, I bought Cd's for all four of my children and their families. They liked it, too. This is a first-rate story and first-rate recording. Love the voice of the narrator.
    I Believe!
If you could sum up The Christmas Chronicles in three words, what would they be?
    Made Me Believe
    Any additional comments?
This is one of the most charming stories about Christmas. So many of our questions have been answered. For someone who holds Christmas close to my heart, I expect to see the road at any time.

    Alphabe Aids That Encourage Readingt
My eight year old granddaughter had loved being read to at bedtime, and had become an excellent reader. However in the third grade she discovered electronic games on her mother's iPad. She no longer wanted to read stories, even Chaptr Books in her Advanced Reading class. This became a problem every evening when she didn't want to read 20 minutes as part of her homework. I decided to try combining reading with electronics. Many children's books from the 3rd grade AR List are listed in Amazon ebooks so I asked her to find one she would like to read and ordered it on my Kindle. She chose this book by Ron Roy and was soon walking around holding my Kindle, engrosed in reading it. She identified with the characters and their exciting adventurs. She now asks for more books in the A to Z Mystery series and I'm sure when I finish getting the rest in his series she will want books in other series by this author. Now, she has to be limired readind the Kindle so she can do her other homework.

    LOVE this series
LOVE this series! Appropriate for boys or girls (adults, too)! It has some great humor, so you WILL enjoy reading this with your kids!
    We love Roscoe
I bought several begining chapter books for my 6 year old, hoping a series would click with him and he want to read more. That's just what happened with Roscoe Riley. After book 1, he was hooked. They are really cute stories. Roscoe gets himself into trouble with his mischievousness, but he's a good kid. My sons laughs out loud when reading these books. And he loves that they always follow the same format, chapter one always starts out with Roscoe in time out. Definitley would recommend these books for a first or second grader.
    Great starter book
My son loves this series. It is a great for those beginning to read chapter books. Chapters are short and he enjoys the sense of accomplishment when he finishes. We have enjoyed reading several in the series and have begun to recognize the similar structure the author uses with each book which is helping my son develop his writing as well.
Storyline begins with Roscoe in time-out, and then the bulk of the story explaining how he got there.i like the hidden lesson within the story. My son enjoys reading them and I would recommend them.
Tap dancing is not just for girls.
My first Graders LOVE these books! We're ready for MORE!
Tap dancing is not just for girls! My kids in class mention these issues all that time! "That's for GIRLS" or "That's for BOYS!"
This was a fun way to touch on that with them.

    Publisher's Summary:
Pongo and Missis Pongo are a pair of Dalmatians who live with the newly married Mr. and Mrs. Dearly and their two nannies. Mr. Dearly is a "financial wizard" who has been granted life-long tax exemption and lent a house on the Outer Circle in Regent's Park in return for wiping out the government debt. The dogs consider the humans their pets, but allow the humans to think that they are the owners.
Missis gives birth to a litter of 15 puppies. Concerned that Missis will not be able to feed them all, Mrs. Dearly looks for a wet nurse, and finds an abandoned Dalmatian mother in the middle of the road in the pouring rain. She has the dog treated by a vet and names her Perdita.
Mr. and Mrs. Dearly attend a dinner party hosted by Cruella de Vil, an intimidating and very wealthy woman fixated with fur. The Dearlys are disconcerted by her belief that all animals are worthless and should be drowned. Shortly after the dinner party, the puppies disappear. The humans fail to trace them, but through the "Twilight Barking", a forum of communication in which dogs can relay messages to each other across the country, the dogs manage to track them down to "Hell Hall", the ancestral home of the de Vil family in Suffolk.
Pongo and Missis decide to run away from home and find them, leaving Perdita to look after the Dearlys. After a journey across the countryside, they learn that there are 97 puppies in Hell Hall, including their own 15.
Thus commences a determined attempt to rescue the Dalmatian puppies quickly before they end up as fur for one of Cruella de Vils famous black and white fur coats.

"Martin Jarvis continues to bring the classics of children's literatue to new audiences with a reading of Dodie Smith's dognapping adventure every bit as enjoyable as his Just William series" (The Daily Telegraph)
"Fun as the film was, it did not do justice to the cascade of wit and jokes that flows from Dodie Smith's pen in the novel....like Peter Pan, this is a book that will be as much enjoyed by parents as children." (The Independent)

OVER 60 MILES AS THE DOG BARKS
MOST USUAL DOGS ARE MORE UNUSUAL THAN UNUSUAL DOGS.
What a wonderful story. This is not a Disney Movie made into a book, but a 1956 book that was adapted into a movie in 1961. It is extremely well written and can be enjoyed by the whole family. At times it is laugh out loud funny. I found the General, to be extremely funny. Dog owners will love it the most.
THE SIZE OF ALL BREEDS SHOULD BE KEPT UP
Since it was written in 56 and even though it was written by a woman, there are some noticeable sexist remarks. The mother dog, is referred to as Mrs., while her husband has a name, Pongo. Mrs. can't tell her right from her left and the male dogs think, that is cute. The male pups struggle bravely, but the female pups, just can't go on. With that exception, I recommend this book, highly. It is entertaining, fun and intelligent.
    S.O.S, SAVE OUR SKINS
    Narrator does an excellent job
    A lot of fun
Don't let the fact that this is supposed to be a children's book stop you from listening to this entertaining and well written story.

    Members Reviews:
An original story, the like of which is both rare and much appreciated.
I would give it a solid 5 stars. Itâs not everyoneâs cup of tea, though the beautiful spell it weaves certainly captivated me. The book has some lovely turns of phrase, having been written at a different time, perhaps when folks took greater pride in their communicational style (or it could just be that I too am from a different time). The author gave a great deal of consideration toward imagining the world through the eyes of his subject and whilst it amounts to an impossible task, has done so in a believable, insightful and artfully though-provoking way. When I finish a book I often ask myself if I would enjoy reading it again, at some future point. In this case, the answer is definitely yes.
    A jewel
I first read this book as a kid in the 1950's. A neighbor loaned it to me. I was fascinated by it, the first time I had read a book devoted to one animal in a personified way. It still evokes exactly the same feelings now as it did then. While a pure scientist might object to how personified and dramatized it is, based on reading other books on bears and grizzlies in particular, it seems pretty fact-based to me. A reader might wonder where the book, essentially a chronology, is going, but it does build to the conclusion, which is not earth-shattering but as touching and emotional as it is simple. It really conveys many things that we humans can relate to and feel. I've given it to my oldest child to read, and will eventually give it to the others.
The book is an easy read, has a simple style, and really helps the reader picture how things look from the animals' perspective. Animals do have intelligence and emotions, recent learnings show that even sharks do, so this book is probably more relevant and true to life than when it was written.
I recommend it to readers from about age 10 to the oldest adult will all enjoy it and come away thinking and feeling in ways they didn't expect.
    The ring of Life
I haven't read it in decades. I'm buying a copy for my library - maybe I'll be able to read it to the grandkids - or vice versa :) A fairly short story about the life and death of a grizzly. What stands out in my mind after all these years is the way the aging process is made part of life. Probably best for the budding naturalist rather than those who think predation is a dirty word and all carnivores should be muzzled. A great philosophical work for those who want to teach some of Nature's ways to the young. Its a pretty transparent allegory of our lives. Deals (gently but clearly) with topics like death, fear, competition - winning and loosing. I'd say ages 8 to 13, best read together with your child. (At least the first time!) I also loved his Two Little Savages - about camping & the outdoors.
    If bears could only talk
I enjoyed the story about the bear, I found it to be an easy read and interesting also. I animals could tell their story as this one did there would be many good books on the shelves now.
