This book is itself a break from mediocrity

Being familiar with previous writings of the author, I was looking forward to this new novel; and I must say that I'm not disappointed.

As might be expected from the book title, St Sukie's writing style is anything but mediocre. To describe it as imaginative would be a grave disservice. A fantastical melange of the bizarre, the exotic, and the taboo is more like it. Some might even describe it as weird or insane, but I suspect he might perceive such terms as compliments.

If so inclined, one could easily find something to be offended by--be it an irreverent stance towards religion, bawdy language, or ribald descriptions of sexual encounters. Yet in relatively short order, the characters (including minor ones) are sufficiently developed and the evolving story line so titillating that I felt compelled to read the book in one sitting to see how the loose ends were tied up. They were but, perhaps not unsurprisingly, not necessarily in neat and tidy ways that more traditional storytellers might choose.

To be sure, this book wouldn't appeal to everyone. Those who thrive on linear, logical, analytical mental processing wouldn't "get" this book. However, those willing to transgress the mundane; and to entertain alternative realities and perspectives would likely enjoy it.

Are you mediocre? How does one exit a mediocre life? Well the Clam sisters found a way out if mediocrity when one of them buys the Blue Spong at her favorite pet store. And then the fun begins with the reading of this book by St, Sukie de la Croix. Strange episodes take place and people begin to change whenever the Blue Spong stretches its blue lights outward. The characters are bizarre and fun; the plot is developed in a fantasy type world which changes one's perception of fantasy. This reader who has dealt with literature all of his life can say nothing but positive things about this work, It is fascinating to follow the line of thought the author puts into crafting this work. It is well written, something expected but not always found incurrent works. Sukie is to be congratulated in the development he has put into this. If one wants to lose themselves in a time away from mediocrity, this is the book to read.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A better storyline and a more coherent narration.

What could J.S. Cook have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Maybe actually reading this book might have been better. I was very confused, more than once, who's pov I was in. The majority of the book, which is a novella already, the two MC's were with other people. When they did finally get together I wasn't even sure why and then the book was over.

Would you be willing to try another one of K.C. Kellys performances?

The backdrop of the book was Mississippi and I've lived in Mississippi, they do NOT sound like whatever dialogue Kelly was using that sounded more like an audition to read the credits for the movie Deliverance!

Yeah, sorry, I tried I promise. I listened to the entire book thinking "Okay, next chapter they'll get together and the story will iron itself out." Nope. I don't like having to hunt down my characters and that's how I felt this story was conveyed.

i was left underwhelmed by this one.

This is the story of police chief Eli Gallagher and his deputy Stan Leach. As a violent crime rocks their little town their personal lives are unraveling.

This story was super short, too short to wrap up all the plot points that would make it a complete story. At the beginning of the story the author spent a lot of time developing the relationships of Gallagher and Leach with other men. This was more than half of the story, and at this point I assumed there wouldn't be a relationship between the main characters. Both of those relationships ended abruptly and we moved into the mystery part of the story.

The mystery ended up not being so mysterious because we knew who the culprit was from the get go, but because of the stress of it Eli and Stan hop in bed together. Next thing you know the book is ending and the epilogue has the couple making serious relationship steps without any relationship growth throughout the book.

For me, the plot was really choppy and didn't flow well. With some polishing and added detail it could make a good full length novel, but it definitely needs more detail about the budding relationship between the main characters.

I grew up in Mississippi and I was hoping the narrator would have an authentic Mississippi accent. I was hoping it would take me back in time and add another dimension to the story, but speaking slowly isn't a substitute for an accent.

I am becoming obsessed with this series! I was extremely fortunate to be provided a complimentary audio copy of Book 1 Hidden Identity, and it was really, really good! Book 1 wasn't a romance; it focused on the mystery aspect but there was romance (sex) in it. Crime Wave, which is book 2, hints that Jimmy McSwain and "sexy NYPD Captain Francis X. Frisano" have a romance. They certainly have a spark of something. But Jimmy has sworn to never fall for a cop, and Frank can't be a publically out gay man and still fulfill his cop career dreams.

I have to say that Joel Leslie's narration was PERFECT!! He is able to give the characters their own voice [I will admit that some of the characters sounded alike but that was ok (hide spoiler)] and I knew when it was Jimmy speaking, when it was Frank speaking, or when it was "Terry Cloth" speaking. ;) I particularly thought Joel's ability to express the characters emotions - be those anger, fear or lust - was simply amazing. I am still new to the audio world and I've not come across any other narrators who put so much emotion into the written word.

I felt these characters come alive, and when Jimmy becomes involved in yet another murder, I was rooting for him to solve it and to also find love.

Crime Wave is very different from Hidden Identity. I will admit that I had figured out who the killer was, but I had the motive and everything else related to the murder case completely wrong. I was surprised, which is always cool in a mystery. This one has a twist I really didn't see coming.

Jimmy is begged by his sister to spy on her boyfriend, Rocky, because she thinks he's cheating on her. He is, Jimmy finds this out, but it's not with a woman; he's with a man - and is in fact in love with this other man. But as Jimmy is working his case, Rocky's lover is killed and Rocky arrested for it. Jimmy knows Rocky didn't kill his lover and is determined to prove it.

Sublime in every way

I spent and enthralling several hours caught up in Rowan and Vince's conflicted Newcastle world. This is one of my favorite books by Harper Fox. It's a lovely combination of sensuousness, grit, heartbreak, and determination - full of tense action, and much love. The audio performance by Tim Gilbert is nothing short of brilliant. Gripping, raw, and profoundly nuanced. Tim voiced both Vince and Rowan to perfection. I couldn't have given them better intonations in my head. He takes a gorgeously written story to new heights. It makes for an unforgettable experience -yet one I want to experience all over again.

My goodness what a treat! This book just hit all the sweet spots, law enforcement, hurt/comfort, wonderful writing and a hard fought HEA. Harper Fox is just a master writer. If you don't mind her use of the slang of Northern England, which can be a little hard to decipher for an American listener, her stories are magnificent. Tim Gilbert is a perfect narrator for this love story, and it is definitely a love story. The MCs are very complex and finding and loving each other is a struggle due to their own internal demons, as well as some external ones. Tackling something like addiction is always a tricky subject, but I think she does it beautifully and honestly. And again, Mr. Gilbert puts in a truly magnificent performance. Highly recommend!

If you have a free credit..get this...it's ok...

you have to get past the coldness of the narrator, and his British accent which does not add to the story at all, but if you have a credit to use, I liked this one once I got into it.

I don't know what happened to the second book in the series but I had to return it. Could not get half way thru, didn't care if I finished it, and goodness knows I tried...I tried for hours of repeat...what a disappointment.

listen to in a day

not only did it have a great story line to it, and get me listening to book 2 in the series as soon as book one finished ( which I listen to in a day while I worked).

but the narrator is one of the best I've listened to, to date! he is excellent at individual accents and can switch between the characters so fluidly that is almost like having a narrator and cast. certainly going to be hunting out other books he's the narrator of.

I really love it when a book I've read and enjoyed comes out in audio and is even better. It helps when it's a well written story and a well versed narrator. Russo took these characters as written and made them three dimensional, gave them a life above and beyond the Cole and Owen that I fell in love with on paper. Perfect tones and inflections, subtle nuances that he could create with voice that were lost in the written version of the story.

When Cole is left standing at the airport, holding the bag, watching his boyfriend be whisked off into the sunset by another man... well he's about done with Christmas. Stumbling into a local bar, getting punched and catching the eye of the sex on wheels bartender was just a happy circumstance.

When Owen, said bartender, offers Cole an option to either of them spending their Holiday's alone, Cole refuses at first. There is something so open, honest and alluring about the bartender with his scruffy beard and bedroom eyes that has caught Cole's attention though, and he is intrigued. But when Christmas comes, the distraction goes, and Cole will lose another man, or will he?

If you are looking for a Holiday story without all the eggnog, parties and fluffy happy ever after, then this just might be the book for you. Cole and Owen are anything but traditional. While they are both family men, they are both perfectly flawed, and therefore utterly irresistible. It was refreshing to read a story where both male leads struggled with their circumstance. There was just a little bit of angst and indecision, but it fit perfectly with the storyline and the characters.

Several years later on an annual Holiday trip to their family cabin, Nate finally gets what he has wanted for so long. But he is left stunned, confused and broken hearted when he wakes up the next morning to find Quinn gone.

Two years later Quinn is back to beg for forgiveness and to finally explain to Nate why he snuck out of the bed theyd just shared, like a thief in the night. Quinn is back to lay claim to Nate, but what he finds is not the energetic, full of life young man that Quinn fell in love with. Nate is pissed off, defiant and wants nothing to do with Quinn. Will an unplanned trip to the cabin and a couple of days alone be the answer to Quinns prayers?

Short, Sexy and wait for it Steamy! Kostova has delivered yet another fantastic Holiday story full of meat for us to sink our teeth into. (pun intended) Seriously, there was a lot of content in so few pages and I was drawn into the story from the start. My heart broke for young Nate, to have the one thing he has always dreamed of, then to have it snatched away while he lay dreaming. It really hits Nate hard and just by the dialogue in the story between Quinn and Bran, Nates brother, you know how hard the years have been on both men. I knew though, I just knew there had to be a reason. Ill say no more, youll have to read for yourself.

Definitely the perfect little short story for this time of year; Snowed In is intense, passionate and intriguing. I devoured it in a little over an hour, just could not put it down once I started.

Stupid story

The central element of the story - what kept these two apart for so long - is stupid. It makes no sense at all. If that had been thought through and a more reasonable explanation provided perhaps I would not have viewed the rest of the story through a lens of 'Are you kidding?'

The narration was confusing because all characters sounded the same.

In the middle, It was very good, memorable enough. Perhaps not the best, but it's also very far for being the worst. I had a good time with it

Yes. I had a good time woth it, The story is sort of sad, but the narrator did a great job transmitting the emotions.

Yes, a great job in the protray of emotion. Very appropiate and I enjoyed how nice his diction was. I have hard time with some audiobooks trying to keep track of the story becoause english is not my main lenguaje, but I didn't had any problem with his narration.

I really can't answer that question.Mostly for lack if imagination :(

About the narration, it was very good. It had a nice pace and one of the things I appreciate the most is a good diction that make it easy to understand. I dont generally listen to audiobooks because I get lost in the translation sometimes, most of audiobooks are narrated in English and I speak Spanish, it always requires extra attention for me to keep track on the story, but this time it was easy enough.

Nice Book.

Best audio book....

This was a lovely good book and it held my interest. When I got it I didn't understand it was a romance story, which I don't mind for.As the headline says, Lesbian Romance this novel is touching lesbian love with several turns.

What made the experience of listening to Motives the most enjoyable?

I really enjoyed a lot, it is beautiful story between the hero and heroin was superb.

What did you like best about this story?

Claudia had gained! She had worked to attract Phillips and keep him away from Sofia. She had trained to get him to move his family and now her goal was to remove out every money she probably could from his holes. After the passion and the heartbreak that began with missing the enjoyment of her life to Claudia, Sofia became cold.

Which scene was your favorite?

I like all the scenes of Sofia.

If you could take any character from Motives out to dinner, who would it be and why?

My favorite character from Motives is Sofia, really amazing.

I truly liked this book. What I liked most is from the start you know something is running on and you're on the side of your chair needing to know what it is. A different element that I got important for the story was the romance being told from various angles liked appearing all the parts and like the way each was told to give insight into the novel. Well, there is more to happen!

Unmet potential

This story has potential to be interesting because of the plot & characters aside from the romance. Unfortunately the romance itself was predictable and boring.

The narration is pretty good. It's rare that an American narrator can get so close to getting British accents right.

If this were my first book from these authors there wouldn't be a second.

Simple story

Loved the story. Set in a small village, Love story between a business man and a man of the clothe. Simple and fun.
