What A Letdown

This is the second of the author's books I've tried and unless changes a great deal there won't be a third. There were far too many scenarios occurring that didn't manage to move the narrative forward at all. Then there is the matter of Connor one of the book's two lead characters who for some reason the author portrayed as the consummate bitch. It's good that the author made no attempt to portray the lead characters as too good to be true, but neither is it realistic to have the one lead character presented that way, while the other has seemingly fallen for a woman who does nothing but insult her. I made it to about the halfway point before I threw in the towel; even if Connor managed to change her behavior the fact that Logan had put up with all her rude, anti-social behavior, mixed in with multiple put-downs and insults was enough for me. Verbal abuse and bullying are ugly whether they are perpetrated by a man or a woman.

I wanted to like it, I really did....

Based on the premise of the book, and the jobs of the characters, I really wanted to like this book. The story line had such potential, however the complete lack of redeeming qualities of Connor had me struggling to even finish listening.

Connor is portrait in the book and by previous reviewers as a jerk/bitch who is always in the wrong. I disagree, life makes a person and stereotypical behavior is not always something to aim for. Connor has reasons and people keeps pushing her against her will.

I would also be annoying with a bite if I was

partnered with Jake and his jackass attitude. He keeps pushing Connor around and for some reasons everything is her fault. That's what's making me somewhat mad. His banter and matchmaking is never at fault apparently.

cute story

This book was an easy book to get into. the drama was real enough that the reader can get involved and truely care about the cast of characters, and their lives.

there was a time where I felt Hoss was being a bit hypocritical, being mad at Logan for seeing other people when she was having her own one night stands so to speak.

If you could sum up Finding Love in three words, what would they be?

That was unexpected!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ty was my favorite character because the story was told from his point of view. You see him as not just a "rent boy" but a real person who finds love when he least expects it.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Andy tops Ty for the first time because I believe that is when he realizes that his feelings for Andy are changing.

Who was the most memorable character of Finding Love and why?

The old lady at the senior center who recognized him as a porn star and told Ty his videos were "hot"!

What made the experience of listening to Finding Love the most enjoyable?

I think with a story line and finding a narrator that is perfect for a story is essential. I think Sean Crisden always on point with his stories and he makes him part of the story. It doesn't sound like he is reading it but actually living the story.

Have you listened to any of Sean Crisdens other performances before? How does this one compare?

I think this is as good as Acrobat.....

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted to but couldn't. Family expected me to actually feed them....

great fast read!

I took off a star on the story only because i wish this was longer, it was that good of a listen. the twists that this took in such a short time were unexpected and yet fit perfectly with the flow. i can only imagine what she coukd come up with if she had more time to play around with the story line. i will have my eye out for more stories by Lily.

Short and sweet

A cute story about a slow growing romance between a rent boy and a college boy. The narration was great, as I have come to expect from Mr. Crisden. I will look for more from Ms. Blunt.

Sweet and sexy

I tend to avoid sex worker stories because so many of them involve people who turn to the work out of desperation, and not 100% freewill. That feels icky to me. I was happy to find this is not the case with Ty. He comes off as a guy who likes sex and is perfectly happy to turn it into a business. In fact, I had to chuckle a bit at him updating his advertising.

Andy is a shy guy who hires Ty so he can learn what to do before he asks his crush out. Ty takes things slow, and as a result, he finds himself thinking of Andy as a friend. And eventually more than a friend. It actually was a very sweet story. For such a short book, there was a lovely slow-built to the romance.

The narration was good, but then Sean Crisden always is.

Braver Than You Believe!!

I was given this book for an honest review. Amera was one of the eight caught in the lightning strike, however, one the other found they mates they became something totally different. No More Running

Chuck, a fugitive from a physically abusive relationship, runs away but meets up with a wonderful surpise when he finds himself in Portland, Oregon.

In Portland, Chuck finds friends, people who really care and want to help. He also meets his Mr. Right, in an adorable and sexy geek named Trey.

Sometimes when you run from a bad situation you run smack into something good. Aria Grace has done it again. Her characters are well developed and I don't necessarily mean physically either. Her books all have excellent plots and scenarios, not to mention the steamy love scenes.

Love on the Run

The story of Trey and Chuck is so sweet.

Chuck is on the run from a psycho ex determined to see him dead and Trey is a geeky forensic scientist with serious relationship issues.

Trey appears in several of the other books but in this one we finally get a chance to know him. He is a bit jaded, callous almost but determined and committed to creating a good life for himself. He has no time for love and romance and having been on the receiving end of rejection has built up walls of protection that make him appear douchey at times.

But when he meets Chuck he tries and after a few mistakes that will have you screaming he finally manages to get it right and the feels you get by the end are worth the sometimes bumpy ride.

The narration is great and I go back and forth about which of the narrators of this series I like best but I guess that's a good problem to have.

Story was ok and of course I'm head over heels in love with Michael Ferraiuolo performance.

good story, it just ended too soon, and the antagonist is dealt with so quickly I almost missed it, I had the same complaint with another book in this series "my name is luka" if the book would have been maybe another 2 hours long I could have had a more satisfying wrap up, but they deal with it like it's nothing, and the bad guys in the book are doing some serious stuff too, I don't know if I want to continue the series because of that even though the narrators are great the stories are great but it reminds me of a Disney special where they have a bad guy, but because the good guys team up and let's say dump a bucket of water on their head then we never hear or see from them again.

What the ever loving hotness did I just listen to? I just. I feel like. I loved it when.

Omg. This one had a lot of excitement and action than the others, which I enjoyed. I love how Aria can create such an intense connection from me to the characters in no time at all. By the end of a 3 hr narration, I care more about the characters than other books 3x as long.

Confusing

This story should have been emotional powerful and moving. But all the parts that should have been emotional or dramatic were filled with whiplashing emotional and moral stances that just left me wondering what any of them were really feeling. Honestly it felt like it should have been a love story between Chloe and the brother with Olivia as the complicated emotional issue that kept them apart. Chloe even says, He made me strong and stand up for myself while your kindness and control made me weaker everyday I was with you.

The big confrontations throughout the end were also bizarrely carried out. apart from the above statement Chloe basically said that Olivia never really loved her and just transfered her pity into love. And yet her love is real? She entered that confrontation like someone trying to make a stand and cut ties not someone trying to explain a difficult and hurtful time to someone she loved and was supposedly trying to win back. At every turn it was made to be Olivia's fault, everything was her fault and everyone else was just paying for her failures.

And Melanie was a character that confused me as well she kept giving wildly differing advice and attitudes towards love, bisexuality, commitment, and herself.

So just confused and a bit frustrated at the end of this one.

don't waste a credit plz trust me

the narrator is bad along w the audio quality to much background noise. you can even hear her phone vibrate n receive email. then there are massive blank audio spaces it's not the narrator taking a pause the audio just stops for long long pauses in the middle of the story with out even an announcement of a new chapter so your left wondering what's going on n wondering if you missed something. the actual story isn't good either way to much detail in some spots n not enough in others. I'm confused about all the rakey treatment talk to seems more like an advertisement than moving the story forward. I've listened to over a 100+ audio books some horrible some great but this is the first one I haven't been able to finish I finally gave up on chapter 15. plz don't waste ur time or money

Yes. I would definitely recommend this book, the story is a nice one. I really liked the characters and was pulling for them from the beginning.

Story Review:

Wow, I have said this before and I will say this again, Ms. Lain continues to surprise me. Just when I think I have a handle on her writing style she throws me another character and storyline that seems to come out of the blue and rides that line of over the top and unbelievable, yet it still works and leaves me feeling fulfilled.

Raven and Dennis came from two very different backgrounds and yet they were both struggling with the same basic issue, pleasing their parents. However, the spin on this was totally different for both men. Raven had expectations to live up to in terms of honor and upholding Native American traditions. His family pressure was in the form of guilt in order to bring wealth and notoriety to the family and tribe. Raven was expected to ignore his own desires for the sake of others. It was not easy to see him suffer but at the same time, he had so many people in his corner. There was always a ray of hope lurking beneath his misery.

On the other hand, Dennis was caught in a very horrible situation. Pleasing his parents was on a whole different level than Raven. There was no hope in sight and I honestly didnt know how poor Dennis survived. His parents were atrocious and just really horrible people. And other than a few people who could see his pain, Dennis had no one in his corner. This was not the storyline I ever anticipated for Dennis, but it was well done and kept me on the edge of my seat needing to know how things turned out.

These men were fascinating and while their individual stories were painful to listen to at times, their romance was relatively low angst and uplifting. It was a bit hard to believe, since I truly think Dennis was not in a place for love yet, but then again, maybe he needed that love to pull him out from under his evil parents. I liked that this story took me by surprise and how well integrated all parts of the story were. The Native American culture and history, the football, the filmmaking, and Denniss struggles all worked together to give me a very entertaining listening experience.

I loved the Native American History that was interspersed into this story.

Great performance and really good story

I really enjoyed this listen. The contrast between Michael and Gabriel really worked for me. I loved the way Michael loved Gabriel. And Gabriel was just what Michael needed to start to address his brutal childhood trauma. Gabriel's character was over the top flamboyant, light drag, with a great supportive family. And Michael was super dark, alpha, attorney, introvert with PSTD. The author made them make total sense as a couple. The narrator's performance was stellar and he really brought the story and characters to life. I look forward to the next book.

FELL FLAT

This book had lots of potential, but because of the mediocre and sometimes juvenile dialogue it completely turned me off. first off the characters say certain things way way too much like " oh I'm such a beast" or "look at my fabulous self" the conflict in the book was a good idea but it was very superficial for me I think we spent too much time with the MC self loathing and the opportunity to make a strong solid healing book was missed, and in some parts of the dialogue I questioned if a high schooler wrote it. this book left me wanting, very shallow.

The narrator did a below average job, some parts sounded like he recorded in a studio and others sound like it was in a bathroom, one point I heard something drop in the background and it scared the crap out of me because I was listening at night and I thought someone was in my house.

I would say save your money on this book however, I have high hopes for the brother in the next book, maybe it will deal with a lighter subject that the author can handle.

Not bad just one thing..

I did enjoy this book, and i Think it is a classical HEA story. One ting irritated me and that was the fact tha the abused MC refer to himself as a beast and tha is why noone Wants him.

Lovely, Diverse Collection of Stories

Of Donoghue's short story collections to date, I think this is the best. "Touchy Subjects" offers 19 takes on contemporary topics from babies and family life to art, writing, brief encounters - sexual and non-sexual - and death. Some stories are poignant, some are laugh-out-loud funny, one is deliciously erotic, all are thoughtful and entertaining. The diversity of topics and moods is what made this one so satisfying for me.

Among my favorite stories: the title story "Touchy Subjects" involves a male-female rendezvous in a hotel with a surprising twist; "Pluck" reveals how one man reacts to something really annoying about his lover; "The Sanctuary of Hands," is about a lonely tourist finding unexpected companionship in the caves of southern France; and "Speaking in Tongues" is a hot story about a one night stand told cleverly from the alternating viewpoints of two people in the grips of desire.

"Touchy Subjects" is a great intro to Donoghue in terms of her style and range. Like all her work, it exhibits real depth and understanding of people at the same time that it thoroughly entertains. The writing is simple and clear and should be accessible to all readers. I highly recommend it. Also, it's a great gift for a loved one's birthday or the holidays.

Irish born, Canadian Emma Donoghue is simply put, fabulous!! For me she is up there with or above the word smiths like Thomas Sanchez that are not widely known. READ THIS AUTHOR!! TOUCHY SUBJECTS is a collection of short stories, amazing little tales about life and discovery. Start here then maybe HOOD or SLAMMERKIN ( a classic already), or THE ROOM all wonderful books. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Emma Donoghue's latest collection of short stories is extraordinary. Each story is a perfectly polished gem, with the depth of characterization and emotion that you would expect from a great novel. And she's funny, too.
