Title: Whitney Houston: An Unauthorized Biography
    Author: Belmont and Belcourt Biographies
    Narrator: Deborah White
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 1 min
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-06-14
    Publisher: Price World Publishing
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
"She still wondered, 'Am I good enough? Am I pretty enough? Will they like me?' It was the burden that made her great and the part that caused her to stumble in the end. If you could hear me, no I would tell you, you weren't just good enough, you were great." (Kevin Costner)
We all heard the same stories and found ourselves believing the rumors. The stories of drug use and drunken nights out, her problems with money and marriage, and even those about how much Kevin Costner despised working with her on the film The Bodyguard, because of her diva-like ways. But quotes like the one above, along with everything else Kevin Costner shared about his friendship with Whitney Houston, can't help but make you wonder just how misunderstood she really was.
This audiobook takes you full circle through Whitney Houston's life, starting with her first solo in her mother's choir at the New Hope Baptist Church in New Jersey to her funeral in that very same church. Every page will give you more and more insight into the tragic superstar, leaving you with an understanding of just how incredible she was, even when the tabloids were declaring otherwise.

    Language: English

    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable, audiobook edition of Walking Home, by Clare Balding.
In Clare Balding's family, walking just took too long - she galloped through the countryside and she galloped through life. Then, in 1999, Clare took a call from a BBC producer looking for a presenter for a new radio series. "Do you walk?" she asked. "Well, I walk the dog...."
That series, Ramblings, is still going strong - and Clare's caught the walking bug. Now she wants her family to share some of that pleasure. Her and her brother Andrew are determined to conquer the Wayfarer's Walk, a 71-mile route. What could possibly go wrong?

I felt like I knew Clare as a friend
What did you like most about Walking Home?
I just love Clare Balding's style of writing and the fact that she narrated it just enhanced the listening experience. I was surprised by the chapters which did not relate directly to walking, for example about the Olympics, and thoroughly enjoyed listening to all her anecdotes.
What other book might you compare Walking Home to, and why?
I read My animals and other family and so there is an obvious comparison to this book.
Which character as performed by Clare Balding was your favourite?
I enjoyed the variety of characters, none more than the others.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I particularly liked hearing about the famous interview with Chad Le Clos' father at the swimming event at 2012.
    Any additional comments?
As a direct result of listening to this book I have discovered Podcasts of Ramblings with Clare Balding which are a good listen on my dog walks.
Worth a read on several levels
Where does Walking Home rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It is hard to compare this with many of the other books I have read. It is part biography and part a practical and philosophical tract on walking (while being light and wryly humorous). Most importantly it opens up the subject of walking in Britain by connecting the reader to a range of other reading on the subject.
What other book might you compare Walking Home to, and why?
In many ways it is superior to Simon Armitage's book ... of the same name! Clare Balding's narration is much better and her story held my interest much more than that of Armitage.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The book further energised my interest in walking, and particularly walking in Britain.
    Made me cry!
Where does Walking Home rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This ranks very highly amongst my audible reads. I didn't even know I liked Clare Balding.

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 67 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
Since his arrival at The Daily Show in 1999, Jon Stewart has become one of the major players in comedy as well as one of the most significant liberal voices in the media and on television today. In Angry Optimist, Lisa Rogak charts his unlikely rise to political stardom, from his early stand-up days to the short-lived but acclaimed Jon Stewart Show.
Drawing on interviews with current and former colleagues, she reveals how things work behind the scenes at The Daily Show. With speculation simmering about Stewart's possible retirement from The Daily Show and a contentious midterm election in 2014, this biography may come to serve as a capstone for a comedian who has wielded incredible power in American politics.
    Members Reviews:
Narration was a poor choice. The read was forced and distracting
The narrator had the wrong tone for Jon Stewart and accent(s), especially when she does John Oliver. It's not a gender issue, but she infused a persona that made Stewart offputting, I'm a fan. I do not recommend.
    Too many jumps
I kept loosing track of years. The constant back and forth was too much and I almost gave up. also the narrator's tone is dull.
Jon Stewart is right-his life is boring!
Would you try another book from Lisa Rogak and/or Cassandra Campbell?
    I am not sure.
Would you be willing to try another book from Lisa Rogak? Why or why not?
It was an OK book but she did not seem to have a lot to say about Stewart. She quotes him in the book saying that he and his life are "boring" and he's right. This actually is a bright spot in our celebrity-obsessed world. He does not seek fame and tries to live a normal life with his family.
What didnt you like about Cassandra Campbells performance?
She was OK but a bad choice for this book. There are a lot of quote's from Stewart and she tried to put on a male voice for the quote--very annoying. They should have had a male performer for this book.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Probably not. Not a good movie topic.
    Any additional comments?
I love Jon Stewart and watch his show, so my review is not a reflection on how I feel about him.
Great learning about Jon Stewart's life and journey
My first audio book. Really enjoyed spending time with Jon Stewart who I miss so much. Readers voice was annoying. I wish he had read it himself, or someone with a voice like his. Would have liked more in depth discussion of process from news to air about specific stories. But overall very interesting for any Daily Show follower

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 24 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-19-14
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 16 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
He made only three movies - East of Eden, Rebel without a Cause, and Giant - and became an international icon after his tragic death at the age of 24. He was James Dean, and no one has told the real story of the man, the actor, or the myth as fully, as powerfully, and as intimately as the authors of James Dean: Little Boy Lost . This is the book drawn from extensive interviews with Dean's friends and colleagues, many of whom speak out for the first time. It is the book written by one of Dean's confidants: noted celebrity biographer Joe Hyams.
This book follows its fascinating subject from the Indiana farm where he spent an active but troubled boyhood to the crucial, early training ground of the New York theater world to his meteoric rise to international stardom in the movies. It shows how postwar Hollywood was still a charmed, leisurely community, yet one ripe for the explosive ascension of a dynamic new presence like James Dean. It reveals details of the making of his three landmark films and candidly explores Dean's many love affairs, discussing with great insight the surprising truth about Dean's much-talked-about bisexuality. It exposes, as only an insider's book can, the true story of Dean and actress Pier Angeli - his one real love - and the shocking outcome of their liaison. James Dean: Little Boy Lost is the definitive story of a stunning young talent who lived too fast and died far too soon but whose memory will live on as long as the youth of the world dare to hope, love, and dream.

This intimate and inspiring book tells the full story of Sir Edmund Hillary's extraordinary life, from his expeditions to remote corners of the world to his humanitarian activities serving the Sherpa people.
    Members Reviews:
    Five Stars
    informative and insightful
A titanic figure. Humble, generous, driven - a man who lived for 55 years in Everest's shadow.
Sir Edmund Hillary was an extraordinary man, who grew up in the most humble surroundings and driven, ultimately by his lifelong sense of being inadequate: of not measuring up. He suffered this at the hands of a cold father, and at a prestigious school that offered discouragement to young Edmund - labelling him as as an awkward misfit.
Solitary by nature, he found in New Zealand a love for the outdoors and a passion for the mountains. Of course by 1953 his fitness, and drive, took him to the top of Mt Everest, alongside Tenzing Norgay, and for the next 55 years Hillary lived in the shadow of that mountain.
By his choice he spent most of these incredible years giving himself to the people of Nepal - helping build schools, hospitals and airstrips not only through fund raising, but through hard physical work. In a sense he found a place where he really belonged and where he was loved.
Ed Hillary's own books suffer somewhat because his story has been too often repeated. How many times has he been asked to describe the feat of scaling Everest? Over the years the story has been worn through familiarity and its power eroded - and his own writing has shown not only this natural erosion, but has also revealed his own taciturn unwillingness to discuss himself in depth.
In this volume however, Johnston performs a wonderful job in capturing the heart of the man, and the glory of his personal journey. His commitment to the people of Nepal is an inspiration that has helped fire many others including fellow mountaieer Greg MortensonThree Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time.
Many of our world heroes, I'm thinking of Gagarin, or of Neil Armstrong, largely withdrew from public life. Hillary, perhaps because of his personal self-doubt kept trying to conquer his own sense of inadequacy, and as a result became an accessible soul who will continue to inspire.
This book is, in my view, the best of the Hillary books available.
    Inspiring Book
I found this book to be inspiring, informative, comprehensive and very readable. After reading it I felt compelled to sign up for a 16 day trekking trip in Nepal. The only thing missing was information on Hillary's death since it was published earlier than that. I got the updated info on that from Wikipedia and taped it in the back.
    Decent, but not great
A decent biography of the person who conquered the Everest. The subject is fascinating and easily could have been a great read. Yet it was hard for me to relate to the journalistic writing style. An Extraordinary Life is a good introduction to Hillary's life, but unfortunately not a thrilling one.

    Title: Fireball
Subtitle: Carole Lombard and the Mystery of Flight 3

    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 59 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
This fresh look at Hollywood's "Queen of Screwball", Carole Lombard, presents a first-ever examination of the events that led to the shocking flight mishap that took her life on the side of a Nevada mountain in 1942. It also provides a day-by-day account of the struggles of Lombard's husband, Clark Gable, and other family, friends, and fans to cope with the tragedy. In effect, having just completed the first sale of war bonds and stamps in the nation following its entry into World War II, Lombard became the first Hollywood star to sacrifice her life in the war.
The War Department offered Gable a funeral service with full military honors, but he refused it, knowing his wife would not approve of such spectacle. Based on extensive research rather than gossip, this investigation further explores the lives of the 21 others on the plane, including 15 members of the US Army Air Corps, and addresses one of the most enduring mysteries of World War II. On a clear night full of stars, with TWA's most experienced pilot at the controls of a 10-month-old aircraft under the power of two fully functioning engines, why did the flight crash into that Nevada mountainside?
This gripping page-turner presents the story of the people on the plane, the friends and families left behind, and the heroic first responders who struggled up a mountain hoping to perform a miracle rescue. It is a story of accomplishment, bravery, sacrifice, and loss.
    Critic Reviews:
"Devoured Fireball in a single day while recuperating from the Toronto International Film Festival. Fantastic job of research, served up as a real page-turner. It would make a great movie." (Lou Lumenick, chief film critic, New York Post)

    Carole, Reanimated
If you could sum up Fireball in three words, what would they be?
    Researched; Personal; Gripping
What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
    Ms.Gilbert does read with enthusiasm.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I appreciated that Mr. Matzen fleshed out some peripheral players in the lives of Lombard and also Gable.
    Any additional comments?
I've always felt I knew Carole; now I feel I know her better.
    Haunting
Hard to believe so long has passed and how touching this story. I really would have loved to get to know the"fireball" Carol Lombard. She really packed a lot of living into a short time!
    Great book awful narration
This is such a great and important book. However it is read by a woman with an awful breathy voice that is very distracting.
    Heartbreaking story with obnoxious narrator
This was probably the most beautifully written tragic story I've ever read. I think it would have fared even better with a better Narrator. Tavia what's her face is no Grace Conlin and her over the top dramatic recitation bordered on obnoxious "oooh no! Dear! sweet! Carole is... G-g-g-ONE!!" (Rolls eyes) the story was tragic enough and did not need Tavia's over the top Mary Pickford style of acting.
Anyway I wish I had read the book on my own because I don't think I will be able to revisit this title. It was just too heartbreaking, those people did not deserve to die in such a tragic way.

Cameron Diaz shares her formula for becoming happier, healthier, and stronger in this positive, essential guide that is grounded in science and inspired by personal experience.
Cameron Diaz has been a role model for millions of women all over the world throughout her career. But, as she'd be the first to admit, she hasn't always been as health-conscious as she is now. As a young woman, Cameron didn't always think about how the decisions she was making about her diet and lifestyle would impact her health for years to come. But over the past 15 years, she has discovered that what she eats is inseparably linked to how she feels and looks. In The Body Book, Cameron shares what she's learned and offers a comprehensive guide for women to look and feel their best. Cameron doesn't offer a one-size-fits-all program or set goals to reach in seven days or 30 days or a year; instead, The Body Book offers a long-term approach to a long, strong, healthy life.

This book will help you know, love and appreciate your body
I've never read the book and I didn't know what to expect. Cameron Diaz has always struck me as a fun loving woman, one who's comfortable in her skin and loves it and it reflects in this book! Even better she has me learning things about my body that I didn't even know about.
Like she said, this is not a diet book or a book on exercise. This is a book about nutrition, about embracing hunger and giving our bodies the wholesome foods it needs. This is about moving our bodies, not to fit better in jeans (although that's a benefit) but to help our bones, our muscles, our heart, our brains and to increase our life's span. This is about the discipline of consistently taking care of our health for the rest of our lives.
This is about our bodies and how amazing, strong, powerful and unique they each are and it is a masterpiece (referring to our bodies and the book :) )
Good for basic knowledge and motivation.
Good for basic knowledge and motivation. If you are procrastinating your health and fitness activities then this will book will give you a kick. if you are already a health enthusiast you would probably already have most of the knowledge and be following most of the motivation tips offered by this book.
    Life Changing
What did you like most about The Body Book?
This book is the best personal development book that I've read so far. The way the book is written and narrated was way beyond my expectations. It is like a conversation with one of your best friends. So many personal and practical tips, so inspiring and so worth listening again.... Can't recommend it highly enough!
    Very informative
