Stories with a moral

While this book is the second one in the Grandma's Attic bunch, it's not necessary to read In Grandma's Attic first. The book is a collection of 8-10 page chapters, each with it's own story from Grandma's youth. The stories can be read independently, apart from each other.

In these stories, Grandma, or Mabel, is approximately 6 years old. She's a girl that means well in general, but is rather foolish and rushes into things without thinking, and the consequences are sure to follow. In fact, she's a bit foolish for my tastes, and sometimes my thought was that she needed a good spanking and maybe she'd think through things a bit more. But, still each of the stories has a short moral to it, and there are consequences for Mabel's impetuousness. These are Christian stories; the occasional Bible verse or prayer is mentioned.

All in all, they're clean good stories. I wouldn't hand them to a child prone to getting him/herself into trouble easily, as they might be inclined to get ideas from Mabel. But otherwise, it's acceptable enjoyable reading with a moral to the story. My two older children, ages 8 and 6, enjoyed listening to me read them.

Perfect for our kids!

My kids LOVE these stories! We read chapter books to them at night in bed. I love that each chapter is stand alone so that you are not hanging on edge overnight waiting for the next part of the story. My kids are 5, 4, 2 and they all ask for this book! And what great morals they teach in such practical ways!

Good read

My granddaughter had requested these book and was very happy that Santa came through for her. Good reading for a 3rd or 4th grader.

Love LOVE these Grandma's Attic books!

These nostalgic volumes are wonderful! My 7 year old son simply loves all of the Grandma's Attic books and asks for "just one more story" every time we read them. I was glad to get this volume electronically so we will have it when we travel without having to carry along any more books!

Meaningful stories...

Such sweet stories with a Little House on the Prairie feel. I have read through a bit of the book and I love it. I can't wait to start reading this to my 8 yr. old. She loves The Little House series so, I'm sure she will love this too. And it gently teaches lessons as well. I received this as a free download and I'm so glad I did because otherwise, I may have overlooked it all together.

Four Precious Stories About the Birth of Jesus

"A Christmas Surprise" was such a wonderful audiobook. I loved it myself and can't wait until my grandchildren get to listen to it. Four different perspectives on the birth of baby Jesus. They were all so precious. I think I liked the donkey's story the best but they were all so neat. I myself will listen to this again because it made me feel good. This is what Christmas is all about to me. I love how it began. Just close your eyes and listen. Great writing by Jennifer Carter and the narration...

Jeffrey W. Goodrich did an outstanding job reading these stories. He has a delightful, pleasant voice that goes perfectly with the book. Through these two amazing artists, this is an excellent way to teach children about Jesus.

The donkey and the Beatnik Shepherds were fun. I think it is a thoughtfully written story from a great perspective for kids.

I believe he brought the characters to life in a fun way and was not over the top. Nice warm approach.

Centered in spiritual truth with a refreshing variety in practical approaches!

What I love most about Prayer: In Practice is the rich variety of strategies or ways into prayer Gerhardt offers. I recommend reading the whole book, trying out as many of the prayer practices as you can, then choosing a few to purposefully incorporate into your own life, keeping an open mind and remaining willing to change your approach as needed. I found using the Lord's Prayer as an outline for my personal prayer to be powerful and helpful for a season. Then I tried setting up a cute prayer board, but I didn't get any further than a few squares of cork board and a couple index cards. I love the idea, and it works great for many people; it just isn't working well in the day-to-day flow of my life right now. But right now I am finding GREAT richness in using different sections of Scripture as frames for personal prayer - which I typically write out in a journal. Buy a Prayer: In Practice for yourself, and buy a copy for a friend so you can exchange ideas and share the journey into prayer! This book will bring great blessings!

The prompts and application techniques were helpful and just the right amount of challenging. I enjoyed it so much that I have started giving it away to friends who have had surgery, to shut ins, or anyone that might need some encouragement. It's a great tool for reaching out to others because, really, who doesn't want to improve their prayer life?

A breath of fresh air...

I just read You Did It For Me and found it to be a lovely, charming little book with an enormous message. Written in the setting of a school, the book captures a day in the life of 5 young classmates.

As each character suffers their particular dilemma (everything from forgotten lunches to homework problems to playground situations) another classmate (our hero) offers a solution to their predicament by means of sharing, compassion, and empathy.

What a beautiful way to teach children to love your neighbor delivered to them in a concrete fashion that they can grasp and remember. I love how Mr. Hug took such profound truth, simplified it and brought it to life. He demonstrated how every act of love is meaningful and necessary.

In the last vignette, it is our hero himself who lands in a predicament that allows his classmates the chance to reciprocate the kindness he has shown them. Mr. Hug ends the story with a "quote" from Jesus. The formatting was so sweet and simple as if He (Jesus) left us a little love note in our lunch box....

You Did It For Me appeals to all ages. It is easy to read and will delight the toddler with its colorful illustrations as well as challenge the new reader with lots of new words. The book also offers many opportunities for questions and discussion between reader and their audience. I have purchased several copies to keep for my future grandchildren as well given some as gifts for nieces, nephews, and other dear ones. I look forward for more inspiring children's books from Mr. Hug who has written directly from his heart to the heart of all God's children (big & small).

A Wonderful Book With A Powerful Message

"You Did It For Me," by Robert Hug is a small, adorable little book with a powerful message. The message the book teaches is that we should do good to others when it is within our power to do so.

The book is set in the environment of an elementary school, and shows how the friendship and kindness of a young boy toward his classmates is returned to him when he is in need. The book beautifully teaches sharing and compassion toward others. In addition, the artwork is both colorful and beautiful. The book also includes a link to an audio book download. You can download an audio version of the book to your computer. You can then burn it to a CD or save it to your portable music device, such as an ipod. This alone is worth the small price of the book.

The book will appeal to a broad range of ages. Those who can read will enjoy its charming message over and over again. The book can also be read to those too young to read to impress upon them a powerful lesson to last them a lifetime.

The book's message demonstrates that small things can make a big difference in the lives of others. It is a wonderful book I highly recommend to all parents of young children. I also loved the author's name was "Hug," how appropriate.

a yin/yang response

I purchased for a grandson who just turned 3. He recently began waking up at night and I thought the story of his guardian angel would be of some comfort. He would have related better if the child in the book was also a little boy; however he loves the story. It is well written and illustrated and appropriate for young ages. It is a very small soft covered book - I thought it was larger and hard covered - my mistake.

The actual content inside the book is very nice, especially for a little one who asks a lot of questions... this may help. However as a consumer I'm not happy with the actual product, the book is very very tiny and looks like something cheap you'd get from the Dollar Store. I just felt taken advantage of when I received this in the mail.

Very Sweet & Comforting

Purchased for my five-year old daughter to read at bedtime. Lovely Christian message explaining that God sends each child a guardian angel, and even as we grow, angels are among us. This is a very comforting message for children and adults alike. I highly recommend.

Less is More

Chip Ingram writes with clarity and is thought proviking. .He shares that doing "a lot"--being very busy-- doesn't show love. He walks the reader through steps in leading a more simple life, but a more meaningful life. At the end of each chapter he has a list of questions which can be used in a small group setting or for personal growth

Love it!

I am a huge fan of Chip Ingram. He explains spiritual simplicity in such a way that makes living it out seem painless. The message is delivered in a way that displays love and encouragement.
