Créateur d'une écriture nouvelle de la construction de l'espace, sa réflexion s'inscrit dans un début de XXe siècle riche en remise en cause des académismes artistiques hérités du passé.

Le Corbusier (1887-1965) se fait d'abord connaître des milieux artistiques de la capitale par sa peinture. Il affine sa vision du monde aux côtés de son camarade Amédée Ozenfant, avec qui il fonde le mouvement puriste et la revue L'Esprit nouveau lui permettant d'affirmer sa philosophie de l'art et du beau. Au-delà de son œuvre parfois controversée d'architecte, Le Corbusier est bel et bien un acteur incontournable de son temps et des libertés qui s'y sont inscrites.

Le présent audio propose des archives de l'Institut National de l'Audiovisuel. En premier lieu, un entretien de 1951 avec Robert Mallet (nous sommes alors peu avant l'inauguration de la Cité Radieuse de Marseille) ainsi qu'un entretien de 1962 avec Georges Charensol (soit l'époque du Musée national d'art Occidental de Tokyo). Ces deux enregistrements rares dépassent le rêve artistique de l'architecte pour atteindre ses préoccupations sociales, son pari sur le bonheur des autres, et nous révèle une face intime et incarnée d'un mythe français du XXe siècle.

The natural flow of his Cork brogue shines through in all his stories, as he tells about various band mates and their piccadillos, and some shady managers and agents (some decent and some not so decent.)

Cahal spins wonderful yarns about the band's travels through Ireland and Europe in a beat-up old van which carried through their equipment from one booking to the next, and about their adventures and misadventures en route.

Spoiler alert: there's a great tale of a Corkman's revenge on a reprehensible German club owner.

Anybody who has ever played in or danced to the beat of an Irish showband has to listen to this book. Apart from that, however, it is a great listen in its own right and should appeal to anyone who likes a story of a young man's musical dreams and struggles. It's a universal tale, beautifully chronicled.

We do a lot of indie promoting at work and honestly I knew nothing about it - couldn't even tell you what indie meant. This book was suggested to me and gave me a good amount of insight into the indie world. I'm not musical but it's given me a new respect for the artists we work with and how hard their job is. It seems like there are plenty of good tips in here and it gives clear objectives for anyone looking to get into this industry. It's pretty simply written so even I can understand the terms even though I previously knew pretty much nothing about music production.

Useful book! This guide gives a great overview of how to turn your spare room into a recording space to make music. It even has a very helpful chapter that deals with common mistakes when it comes to converting your room. I really liked the chapter about exactly how to set everything up. This has been very helpful as I decide which of my rooms will be best suited to convert into a full studio! Really worth recommending to all!

good story but boring style

Review A woman working at an influential level in the music business, Sun Records no less, and in the 50s! Just the seeing names of the stars was enough to attract me to this book. Sadly though, what could have been an exciting read turned out to be a tad disappointing.All the information I wanted is there, but it reads like a rather boring history, which is great if that's all you want. I didn't get any sense of the vibe of those times, I had wanted to live it through the authors retelling, but that just didn't happen for me.To summarise: Excellent source of historical detail but a very dry account of an interesting time in the popular music industry. Disappointing.NarratorLee Ann Howlett did a darned good job considering the somewhat emotionless and dry story she had to relate, I doubt anyone's ability to make this sound interesting. Good job Lee Ann!This audiobook was provided by the narrator. In return, this is my honest review

I'm from the south (North Carolina) and around the same age as the author, Barbara Barnes, and I loved her story. Hearing about the antics of these musicians that I listened to via their records made me feel like I was there. Jerry Lee Lewis was even crazier than I thought he was.

Loved this book, a great tribute to the original band.

Very well written acconunt of Lynyrd Skynyrd in the early years and up until the crash. Ron Eckerman is an incredibly interesting and brilliant man, his stories about life on the road were entertaining and gave a behind the scenes look for any Skynyrd fan.

Ron eckerman, really brings this book to life!

The way Ron told the story, I felt like I had known these guys..just down home people from the south like me. I remember hearing about the plane crash, I was getting up and ready for school that morning.. Wow how devastating the news was that dreadful day...

I would and will definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves the lynyrd skynyrd band! Or just fans of southern rock period!

The book is well written and Ron brings it to life with such detail of what it took to keep this band on the road....a great read!

Remember the Leonard Bernstein Young People's Concerts?

Rob Kapilow opens windows and ears to music - his `What Makes Music Great? Series on NPR is the modern day equivalent of the Bernstein Young People's Concerts, only better. Their mission is a shared one, Kapilow and Bernstein - they want to make classical music immediately accessible to a larger audience than that simply attends subscription concerts in orchestra and recital halls - an actually increase those potential audience members.

Thanks to the companion website courtesy of Roven Records this series of `lectures' offers aural demonstrations. In his inimitable fashion Rob warmly discusses what makes a masterpiece and what is good classical music, offering examples from Vivaldi, Handel, J.S. Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Chopin, Puccini, Wagner, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, and Debussy - explaining far more about the various schools of music and how they evolved and become incorporated in contemporary music than other so called music theory textbooks!
