Book 1 genesis, what an amazing read!

I really enjoyed reading this book from page 1 to the end. I actually didn't want the book to end. It was soo good! This is the best Zombie book I've read.

What made it so different and fun to read was the flowers... the Flower family , they were so much fun. And such a normal family, a little sibling rivalry and a bit tension between Liz and Bill. It was perfect. Mostly I just loved those kids. From Fritz and beauty to Earnst and his genius and Jack with Nips and Frances... they made an amazing Zombie fighting team..

If you love Zombies this is the series to try out. Don't miss out. It's soo good.

Wow! I loved it! Fantastic characters and plot. It is so well written I could picture everything happening in my head. And I love zombie books. I can't wait for the next one in the series. No graphic sex or much violence, so it's for all ages. I recommend this book and series for all those zombie lovers out there. Thank you Perrin for a fantastic story!

Strong Family

I really liked the story of the flowers family and their start in the world of zombies. What more could you want on your vacation.

The only thing is I wish the author would quite using he said she said so many times. I almost quite reading the books because it got so annoying.

I will continue to red the rest of the series because I came to like the Flowers story and want to see how they live through the Zombie world.

I enjoyed this book and i will be getting the rest of the series. I would suggest that you read the 2nd story in the book first. The way the book was put together, if you read the story "Wrecked" first it will start you off in the middle of the story. Then "Genesis" will take you back to the beginning. Mr. Briar understands how to use word imagery to pull you in and leave hungry for more when you realize you are at the last page.

~~Family teamwork~~

Family teamwork against the Lurchers pays off in this adventure story. The family has survived well on New Switzerland and the kids have a couple of tree houses, also. They have a monkey named Nip and an eagle named Beauty plus a donkey and a bull. And, yes, all of them play a role in fighting the Lurchers.

I like the fact that the Dad, Bill, gives credit to his children for their character traits.

Engrossing, Atmospheric, and Immersive

I'd read the physical release of this novel and it had thoroughly creeped me out. Though, I have to say, there was too much gore in that version for me. This corrects that. The audiobook version is almost a different book altogether. The basic setup is the same - two young friends who share a personal tragedy move into a "haunted" apartment building together - but the characters are deeper, the writing quicker and cleaner, and the scares really get to you. I had to turn on all the lights and double-check my locks while listening! The climax is strange and radically different from the physical version (which was gory where this is weird and trippy - I'm honestly not sure which one works better), but the last chapter doubles down on the creep factor and leaves you thinking about what happens to the characters long after the book ends.

The history of the building is laid out as a series of newspaper articles and journal entries. There's a hint of "House of Leaves" there, though peppered into a more standard narrative. This book does not hand you the answers, though. The mystery of Raynam Place is much larger and weirder than a simple "haunting" and the writer never comes out and tells you what it is, but provides all the clues you need to piece it together yourself. I find that much more satisfying than just being told what's really behind things, though it does make you work a little if you're the kind of person that needs concrete answers. That's definitely an improvement over the physical book, which (IIRC) just had characters tell you everything that was going on.

The narrator has a voice filled with gravitas, yet keeps the story moving at the same time. His voice really lends itself to the creepier scenes, where the atmosphere builds and you feel like something is watching you in the dark. It was like listening to a grand storyteller telling me a ghost story while sitting at a campfire. I'll definitely be listening to more that he's narrated.

a must read

Being an east Tennessee native this story sucked me in! I live in proximity to most places in this story, and the rich history of the region added so much to the story mixing folk lore and fact.

Brad C. Hodson is an excellent story teller, and at times the fear, and emotions are palpable..

OK, this time I gave it 4 stars, because finally I know what it was all about. How it started, why it started, when it started, as well as some of the story that followed, and especially the end.

This last "chapter" was very good. It answered most of the questions and it ended well in more ways than I had even hoped. So I was quite satisfied with that.

All in all it was pretty good, but I wish it had not been presented in the way that it was. I really think this would have worked much better as a single but bigger novel, but that's just my opinion, and I'm not and author of anything. So what do I know?

The Curse f th House on Cypress And : Bacalou's Revenge -Book 2

This book is a GREAT ENDING to a Great Supernatural Thriller. Telling of a curse put on an evil family by a Voodoo Queen who seeks to extract vengeance for the death of a loved one and herself. The Curse has gone on for hundreds of years. Vengeance IS a dish best served cold. I RECOMMEND..ENJOY!

Decent horror story but left bored.

Very well written but im wondering why it was broken up into 3 books? The first two were quick page turners but the last book was quite boring even though it served to tie up loose ends. Would have been better as a complete book rather than split apart as the last story is not viable as a standalone story.

Interesting

Captivating, addictive, dark and heartwarming. This book is fast paced and quite a good read. I still don't know why it couldn't have been written in one book though. It's not that long. But, after the first volume abruptly ended, leaving the reader clueless, I had to buy the next volume to s know what happened and how it ends. I do recommend both volumes.

YOGA PANTS

This is a great story as long as you know what you are getting into. It is not for everyone. I don't know if they still have penthouse forum, but if they did during a Zombie outbreak, this would be one of the letters submitted. Ladies, if you really love your husband, you would do this, especially if you look good in yoga pants and a sport bra. This is the Good Wife.

Narrator takes some getting used to. He talks like he has marbles in his mouth, but once you get used to it, he is okay.

I did remember that I enjoyed the first a lot

was asked to review this, and although it's been a while since I read the first, I did remember that I enjoyed the first a lot, so of course I jumped on it.

And while I may have missed a book in between, it quickly came back to me why I enjoyed it.

The series almost reminds me of the Dresden books by Butcher. The characterization is vivid and well-done; the people are varied as opposed to cookie-cutter. The main character is likeable, but not perfect, and with the right amount of snark/sarcasm that I don't feel the author is just gunning for jokes. You easily get caught up in these folks and their relationships. Also, there are clearly defined mechanisms for how magic works in this world; there are no sudden red herrings or last-minute cop-outs.

I only held off from 5 stars because of some editing gaffs, and because occasionally the magical explanations get a bit too in-depth for me, but overall, I truly enjoy this universe and its star Dorian Lake, and will certainly be up for reading more about him and his supporting cast.

Love the twists and turns

I've enjoyed all three books in the Dark Choir series. The author has created a wonderfully complex and deliciously flawed character in Dorian Lake. You can't help but enjoy being taken along on the rollercoaster ride which is Dorian's life as he tries to protect his friends and locate his soul before the Dark Choir possesses it. To complicate matters the Presidium, a powerful governing cabal of magical practitioners, is breathing down his neck as he attempts to discover who - or what - is creating chaotic jinxes in seemingly random and unrelated areas. As Dorian begins to unravel the clues he begins to understand just how deep and dangerous the mystery is, not just for himself, but for those he cares about.

A good read

A good solid book. Easily the best so far of the series. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of his work.

Great series! I love the main character Dorian Gray. He's kind of a wizard. This time he's been asked by City Hall to help with some sigils left at a library after it was vandalized. Also he's helping a colleague figure out who has cursed a day care in another town.

This was very good...Very surprising story..more than just a monster book..a lot more..I really enjoyed it

Unique Twist to the Yeti Legend!

I just finished Frostbite by Dave Jeffery and found it to be an immensely pleasurable read. Jefferyâs detailed prose painted images of the narrative in my mind, sucking me right into the conflict. Grant Hastings is a broken man with deep scars that remain from the war. But losing his wife and little girl from his life haunts him the most. Fate gives him a second chance to provide for his lost family as a search and rescue opportunity offers him and two others from his old team a large cash award.

A professor and his daughter accompany the team to the icy terrain of Nepal. There they hope to find the missing son of the professor, who was on an expedition to find the elusive Yeti. Once there, the situation morphs into something unexpected. There is a plot inside a plot inside a plot. And the appearance of Yeti monster only complicates matters further.

Frostbite is a fast moving page turner. I hate it when reviews state: âI could not put it down.â That said, Jeffery has a way of teasing you at the end of each chapter (or even at the end of a section in the chapter) where, gosh darn it, you really want to keep reading to find the answer to the clue! I finished the novel in two sessions because of this.

Without giving spoilers, there are many unique elements to Frostbite thatâs guaranteed not to read like any of the other typical âbigfootâ genre novels. This again sets the book apart from most, and should entertain anyone who is a fan of horror/science fiction with a little military icing to go on a great action/adventure story. 5 star fun!

A Compelling Speculative Fiction Tale

I picked up the audio-book version of this title. It was my beginning venture into audio-books and this one delivered in spades. Others have not measured up, even from some well-known authors. The writing here is descriptive but maintains a fast pace. The characters are developed as distinct individuals, and the book is plotted with action scenes that flow nicely. In fact, even the scenes that are not action-based are loaded with dialog and interactions that move along. Generally, a major point on reviewing a book for me is whether it keeps me turning pages (with an audio-book, you measure it by not reaching to "change the station"). This book kept me engaged from beginning to end.

Accounts of phenomena presented as fact

Truth or fiction? All of the stories here are supported with testimonies from parties incidentally involved. There is a good fright or two, as well. The narratives are short and for the most part strong in their effort to convince the reader of their integrity. But the ultimate verdict hinges on your willingness to accept the facts. Or dismiss them in favor of a compelling historic journey.

Nicely chilling!

I've always like Bierce. These aren't "bejeezuz almighty-make-you-scared-to-close-your-eyes" scary, but enough to give you a little "chilly-up-and-down-your-spine" kind of otherworld-ness. You know, the lasting feeling that makes you look at the world a little differently. I usually cannot go and watch horror movies. To me, there is absolutely nothing, I mean nothing, fun about being frightened enough to keep me awake for a week. I'm one of those scaredy-cat people who only need to HEAR the noises of horror movies to be petrified. So I liked these stories, and if you're ready for a teeny tiny bit of lasting spookiness, get this book and enjoy it. I bet you will!

Great!

Atmosphere provided, not really scary plots.

This free book presented 5 or 6 civil war era stories which, while not scary, had atmosphere. I was looking for a spooky story to tell my high school students but did not find it in these tales. I find, "Horseman in the Sky," found in other free anthologies, to be a much more eerie tale even though it has no ghosts!

Good old-fashioned ghost stories

I am grateful that the older books written by late authors are now available on eBooks. If today's readers don't have access to hardcopy editions, then we would have lost an opportunity to read these classics. These were good old-fashioned ghost stories and I appreciated the authenticity of the characterization and the language. Often current authors write historical stories, but they sound too modern to be authentic.

Militarily accurate werewolf romp.

It is very clear that Jonathan Brazee's military background came in handy in writing this story. The level of detail and, I assume (I am non-military) accuracy are fascinating and greatly enhance the narrative. At the same time, I am made to wonder if he has a similar amount of knowledge in all things Werewolf!

I really liked his description of the Werewolf culture and was amused by the way vampires were described. So, either Mr. Brazee has an excellent imagination or first hand knowledge on werewolf life. Which is it Jonathan?

In also a sucker for superhero stories. By taking a loser and turning him essentially into a fierce furred fighter, Brazee has combined two of my favorite things. And, he's a Marine! Doesn't get much better.

Light, fun read

A fun book to read, though the transformation of the sad sack loser into a clever, organized soldier after the change was a bit unbelievable. Definitely on the lighter side of reading and there's nothing wrong with that. Not sure if I'll get the rest of the series, though.

love the concept

Characters could be a little stronger, but I think you needed the "hero" to start out that unlivable to show the transformation I hope the author has in mind. A really solid page turner. Couldn't put it down and a little disappointed there aren't more to the series yet! If you dig military sci fi, you'll enjoy this.

Surprisingly good read!!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book the author managed to draw me in so well that I was surprised at the ending!! Not saying it was a cliffhanger but just that I was completely caught up in it . Great read you won't regret the purchase. Looking forward to the next book in the series

Super cool book

Super cool book! I bought it at first for the novelty. I mean, a book about a Werewolf Marine? Sounds so stupid, cheesy & corny. It was the best birthday gift for my husband, a Sergeant in the Marine Corps! He really liked that it was written by a fellow Marine & it is a great read. He actually finished it in 2 days! He wouldn't put it down! All novelty aside, I'm tempted to pick it up myself. My husband really related to the situations & terrain mentioned in the story, as he was deployed to those exact areas. Buy this book, it's a fun read! Great for your Marines.
