The five most popular students at Noble High have secrets to hide; secrets they wrote down in their journals. Now one of their own exposes the private entries...
I am leaking these because I'm tired and I know you are too. The success bar is too high and pretending has become the only way to reach it. Instagrams are filtered, Facebook profiles are embellished, photos are shopped, reality TV is scripted, body parts get upgraded like software, and even professional athletes are cheating. The things we believe in aren't real.
    We are pretenders.

I was very excited about the premise of the book. As I started reading, I became less excited. The book is hard to follow on the kindle because it jumps from one person to another (journal writing). I would probably recommend the actual book version so you can follow the annotations as well. Finally, the author left the ending open as in the book did not have an ending at all. Only read this book if you are planning on buying the second book or you will be just as disappointed as I was at the end. Perhaps I will feel differently by the time I read the 2nd book, but this book cannot stand alone. The author should sell both books in a set to get a more favorable review.

    A slice of reality
I really enjoyed this book and was able to relate to it. All the character had their own personalities and it was easy to follow. The only problem with this book is ends right in the middle of everything although I guess that's why there's going to be a sequel.
    Iffy
it was pretty good but maybe a "little more I have to lay awake thinking what happens next!

    Great series
Four book series amazing. Read first book and was pulled into the series. Excellently written, author keeps your interest till the very last word. Story line a could possibly have happened over the years to some small kids. Worth the read.
    Great series!
This series has me buying the next one each time I get to the end. Great series!
    The best of the four!
As the librarian in a small private school, I am amazed when older children/middle school students choose to read books in a series out of order. However, the Janie series is not episodic, but a time-line continuum and must be read in order:
The Face on the Milk Carton
    Whatever Happened to Janie?
    The Voice on the Radio.
"What Janie Found" is the last in the series and, in my estimation, the best. Caroline Cooney uses multiple viewpoints in telling "what Janie found" and concludes most satisfactorily. Just as in real life, all ends are not tied up, not everything is discovered, but that's all right. Janie reaches peace concerning her kidnapping. That's as much as I will say about book four.
In last words I leave this:
*"She was last seen flying west."
Stephen is going to college in Colorado.
Brian and Brendan untwin with Brian becoming a major player in Book Four.
Reeve is a fine example of the kind of boy girls should seek.
The air in Colorado is just right.
Janie finally chooses to be a "good guy."
    Friendship matters.
    Family matters.
    Absolutely love it
I recommend this book to anyone, it has adventure and love of family.
Best read I've had in a long time.
    Keep on reading!
Purchased as a gift for my daughter. Not sure if she has started to read this yet but I do know she loved the first book of the series and loved it, therefore I'm sure she'll be happy with this one as well

    Publisher's Summary:
What if your whole world was a lie? What if a single revelation - like a single choice - changed everything? What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?
The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered - fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she's known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

Told from a riveting dual perspective, Allegiant, by #1 New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth, brings the Divergent series to a powerful conclusion while revealing the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.

    Members Reviews:
    Absolutely fantastic.
A truly great story with a wonderfully sad bitter twist at the end. An absolute shame it's the end of this unique series.
    All things considered, wow...
Would you consider the audio edition of Allegiant (Divergent, Book 3) to be better than the print version?
Did not read the print version.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The obvious choice would be Tris but in all honesty in this book it was Tobias (Four). I like the fact that his character was explored in this book and, myself a man, I can identify with some of his internal struggles.
What about Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanfords performance did you like?
The contrasting voices telling the 2 different characters' stories were very nicely done and adds a great dimension.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There is so much happening in the book! Particular points for me were when Tris & Tobias finally reach a point where it seems like they may have a future together, Tris & her brother finally making peace and the whole last bit from when "it" happens to the end.
    Any additional comments?
I know there are a lot of different views on the ending of the book. For me the "it" that happens makes the story great and very unique and very memorable, the "thereafter" is the really depressing part as it does not provide proper closure and does not really turn into a good enough positive to dampen the sadness. But that being said, still a great book and great series.
    Unexpected Ending
I loved this story! The whole trilogy. Worth the listen and the read. Did not end how I expected it to but closed off nicely.
    Disappointed and Confused
I wasn't expecting something amazing. These types of books are my guilty pleasures.

In 1918, the world seems on the verge of apocalypse. Americans roam the streets in gauze masks to ward off the deadly Spanish influenza, and the government ships young men to the front lines of a brutal war, creating an atmosphere of fear and confusion. Sixteen-year-old Mary Shelley Black watches as desperate mourners flock to séance and spirit photographers for comfort, but she herself has never believed in ghosts. During her bleakest moment, however, she's forced to rethink her entire way of looking at life and death, for her first love - a boy who died in battle - returns in spirit form. But what does he want from her? This is a tense, romantic story set in a past that is eerily like our own time.

    Meh
I enjoyed the historical bits but the story was a bit far fetched. I wasn't expecting human possession. Odd.
Transported me to a different time and place!
    Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this book! I'm definitely an "old soul" that loves learning about the early 1900s-1940s so I was intrigued by this book when I found out the story took place around my favorite decade (the 1920s). I knew there had been an influenza that had hit our country at one time but I had no idea that it had happened around the 20s. Cat Winters did a great job of transporting the reader to that time of struggle when so many were fighting for their lives in battle during WWI and with the Spanish Influenza! The narrator was amazing at becoming Mary Shelley Black and her voice was very pleasant to listen to because she really drew me more into the story. The book covers a year (1918) when spiritualism and seances are a big deal and there is also a loved story involved as well. Happy reading!
I was so captivated by the story cat winters favor
favorite cat winters other book is also a good listen. I will be buying more.

    Poorly done, all around.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This could never have been a 4 or 5 star experience.
What do you think your next listen will be?
    Don't know
What didnt you like about Christopher Boyles performance?
Many things. Worst of all were the cheesy effects. Especially notable was a couple rounds of gunfire, which was just some guy saying, "Pa-kow! Pa-kow!" Might've been written like that.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Cannibal Fat Camp?
Most of the psychological profile came across as tedious and unnecessary, at least on audio.
    Any additional comments?
Was often reviewed as "horror/comedy" on Goodreads. And got high marks. "Bad horror" is more like it. Maybe it just didn't translate well to audio. Or suffered from poor narration performance. Or maybe the people who reviewed it at Goodreads have low standards; they talked about the "surprise ending" which I could see coming a mile away. There were comic moments, but it often seemed to be either gratuitous or tedious, giving me information I didn't want or need. Some literary devices - such as letters and recipes - kept it from being as bad as it could've been, so I gave it a two star rating. It was like a schlocky cannibal film from the 1970's, so if that's what you're looking for, okay. I was expecting more of a crafty blend of comedy and horror, like the magnificent "Spider Baby" or "Carry on Screaming" movies from the 1960's.

(with 3 !s)
Jessica Darling is back[... kind of]!
Thank you Megan McCafferty for reminding me who I am as a reader. I have spent the last year wrapped up in this romance with books full of all kinds of drama and debauchery. I think I kind of forgot the girl who fell in love with reading.
Don't take this as an insult to all the amazing books I've read lately. This book just reminded me of my roots in reading, and really had me thinking about the way I've been choosing books. I forgot how much I loved books that got into my heart and not my panties.
Junior High Jessica was just as funny and witty as High School/College Jessica. It was exactly like the Jessica I know and love, just a little younger.
I haven't read a middle grade book in almost ten years so I was uneasy about the middle grade label, but I had no need to be. The fact that the book was about Jessica Darling probably gave it the edge. I don't expect to be running off to the middle grade section, but I will definitely be throwing in a few MG books now and then.
It was great getting to know pre-Clueless Crew Jessica. We get more insight into how distance grew between Jessica and Bridget. We also get to meet a young Hope, though she didn't play a huge part in the book. But, most importantly, we get to meet young Marcus. Here's one thing you should know about me, Marcus Flutie is my #1 BBF forever. He was my first, and will never be able to be replaced.
The one thing that bugged me, and it didn't even really bug me, was the small exchanges between Marcus and Jessica. How could Jessica not remember these exchanges she had with Marcus? It kind of doesn't fit, but MM did a really great job with the way she had them interact. I actually went back[er... forward?] and read Sloppy Firsts, Second Helpings, and Charmed Thirds and it made me a little more open minded about the situation.
Those of us who are already well acquainted with Jessica will probably read this book waiting for certain people to show up, and by certain people I mean Marcus, but there is so much more to this book. I'm envious of all the young girls who will get a chance to grow up with Jessica from the beginning, but I hope they fall in love with the series the way I did.

    Publisher's Summary:
A stunning reimagining of Homers Odyssey set in post-Apocalyptic Los Angeles, written by a master storyteller.
Her life by the sea in ruins, Pen has lost everything in the Earth Shaker that all but destroyed the city of Los Angeles. She sets out into the wasteland to search for her family, her journey guided by a tattered copy of Homers Odyssey. Soon she begins to realize her own abilities and strength as she faces false promises of safety, the cloned giants who feast on humans, and a madman who wishes her dead. On her voyage, Pen learns to tell stories that reflect her strange visions, while she and her fellow survivors navigate the dangers that lie in wait. In her signature style, Francesca Lia Block has created a world that is beautiful in its destruction and as frightening as it is lovely. At the helm is Pen, a strong heroine who holds hope and love in her hands and refuses to be defeated.

    A Homeric Dystoperiffic Dreamland
Oh, Francesca Lia Block, never change.
To be completely honest, I didn't even read the description for this book, so I had no idea what it was actually about until I started listening.
She wonderfully infuses grim dystopia with fairy dust. Love In The Time of Global Warming is a pretty straightforward retelling of the Odyssey, with (as usual, for her) a cast of teenagers, and mad scientists for villains.
It's lush, there's no better word to describe the writing. Smearing fairy dust under your eyes. Richly detailed.
I was never scared - I know the story of the Odyssey, but I loved the diversity of the cast, though at times it was a little too perfect. Block always makes sure to include the weird kids and the queer kids, and this book has them all in spades. I love that she breaks from heteronormativity and writes as if it matters without queerness being the focal point of the story. The journey about love is the story, about remembering your family, and how to get home.
Julia Whalen was a wonderful choice to narrate this dreamland. She gets the dreamy parts, and the exciting parts just right. She never breaks from Pen's truth.
Great Book for the Fantasy Addict
I really love Francesca Lia Block, I read several of her books years ago and she still has that great way of bringing the fantastical to life. This is not a book for people that are looking for a Dystopian Novel or Contemporary Fantasy. Block's books are one of a kind, filled with mythology, high fantasy and other worldly in the midst of a ruined contemporary world.
I personally really liked the book but my reading tastes have changed into liking longer novels instead of fast-paced shorter stories. But for anyone that needs a dose of other worldly fantasy this is an incredible book.
    loved it!
love!! this book was so sweet and engaging. LGBTQ dystopia love story what more could you want?
    Read This!
This should be your next read. It is as creative as it is refreshing.

Love the audio. 3 different voices for 3 different main characters was really nice. Also, getting 3 different perspectives. Very well written.
Holy Shit! Was not expecting that ending!
This book was everything that a good sequel should be. In this book the series goes from a 'quirky teen novel to a tense and crazy paranormal adventure. This book ties up loose ends from the first one while at the same time introducing new questions to keep you guessing and leave you ready to get your hands on the last book in the triology.
