    Critic Reviews:
"The furies are reinvented in eerie modern form, wreaking havoc in the lives of a group of teens in a fictional Maine town in this spine-prickling debut, first in a planned trilogy." (Kirkus Reviews)
    Members Reviews:
    Dark Dismal and Depressing
The most dynamic thing about this book is the cover. The Furies are more like modern day mythological mean girls who have nothing better to do than to dole out retributions of a hundred fold felony from a misdemeanor crime.
Em has an eye for her best friend's boyfriend, Chase is all about image and pride. They both will pay the price for their petty mistakes in the furies twisted view of fair. I found most of the characters unlikable shallow superficial teenagers, who even as the story progressed and they grew had no real chance of redemption. The plot was based on typical contemporary teenage behavior of boyfriend stealing, cyber bulling, and upper clickisms. Though current issues, they are also a bit cliched and not very inventive. The juvenile intent and inexperience in consequences add to the naive nature of the crimes committed by the chosen ones but the level of maturity of the characters makes the harness of their punishments unbelievable. This concept would have worked better in a different genre or age group.
Fury is a bad dark teen drama with some crones thrown in to make it different. It needed a stronger concept and a little camp thrown in to lighten up the way too serious feel of the book. I found it a dismal depressing drag.
    It was okay
This one could have been better but it just took so long to get to where it was going I had to turn it off. I only listen to the rest because I need something to listen to. The end made it better but it was like pulling teeth to get there.
    Great book
Emma Glavin's voice will make any book captivating . Great book though. This isn't my normal genre but I enjoyed the listen.

    Language: English
    Release date: 09-30-10
    Publisher: Simon & Schuster UK

    Publisher's Summary:
A sacred oath, a fallen angel, a forbidden love...
This darkly romantic story features our heroine, Nora Grey, a seemingly normal teenage girl with her own shadowy connection to the Nephilim, and a super-alluring bad boy, Patch, now her deskmate in biology class.
Together they find themselves at the centre of a centuries-old feud between a fallen angel and a Nephilim. Forced to sit next to Patch in science class, Nora attempts to resist his flirting, though she gradually falls for him against her better judgment.
Meanwhile creepy things are going on with a mysterious stalker following her car, breaking into her house, and attacking her best friend, Vi. Nora suspects Patch, but there are other suspects too - not least a new boy who has transferred from a different college after being wrongly accused of murdering his girlfriend. And he seems to have taken a shine to Nora....
Love certainly is dangerous. And someone is going to have to make the ultimate sacrifice for it.
    Members Reviews:
Really enjoyed this book! I'm a big series fan.
Overall the story is great! It keep me wanting more. I was finished with the book in three days. It had a lot of mystery and suspense to it other than just your typical love story. The only thing that bothered me was the main character seemed to be very naïve about things and put herself in situations most people wouldn't, which bothered me a little. On the other hand because she was so naïve and put herself in those situations it made the story more dangerous and suspenseful. So overall the story was really good and definitely made you want to keep reading!
Great Plot, Writing Not So Much ...
What did you like best about Hush, Hush? What did you like least?
I liked Patch's character (silly name, though) and I have no affection for the main character, Whatshername - maybe I no longer understand teenagers, but I remember being much more interesting at that age.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I would have upped the pace of the story quite a bit, as well as created a more engaging ecosystem - the town where story is set, surrounding geography, community colour - for the characters to live in. Coming off of the Shiver series, this aspect of the book was lacking.
What didnt you like about Caitlin Greers performance?
    Forgettable.
Was Hush, Hush worth the listening time?
The jury's still out. Given the reviews I'll give the series one more book before deciding if I'll warm to it.
    Room for improvement
I have to say that I was a little disappointed with this one. After reading Cassandra Clares books, I was hoping for something of a similar theme when I read mentions of the Nephlym. Although you get the teenage lust, girl attracted to the bad boy, and all that stuff, I found the book jumpy, not very well thought out and a bit rushed in some places, where Becca could have had a bit of fun with the characters, and gone into a bit more detail in the scenes. To me, it felt like it was written by a teenager or young person - someone who hasn't had a lot of life experience and lacks the knowledge to create a story that will really capture the reader's imagination. Overall, 3 stars. Hopefully Becca's writing will only get better.
    Tolerably entertaining
This is very much a YA book.

    Publisher's Summary:
Doug Lee is undead quite by accident... attacked by a desperate vampire, he finds himself cursed with being fat and 15 forever. When he has no luck finding some goth chick with a vampire fetish, he resorts to sucking the blood of cows under cover of the night. But it's just not the same.
Then he meets the new Indian exchange student and falls for her - hard. Yeah, he wants to bite her, but he also wants to prove himself to her. But like the laws of life, love, and high school, the laws of vampire existence are complicated - it's not as easy as studying Dracula. Especially when the star of Vampire Hunters is hot on your trail in an attempt to boost ratings.
Searing, hilarious, and always unexpected, Fat Vampire is a satirical tour de force from one of the most original writers of fiction today.
    Critic Reviews:
"The multi-talented author Adam Rex uses offbeat humor and outrageous scenarios to position this underdog for paranormal greatness." (Amazon.com review)
    Members Reviews:
    I had to give up...
I like coming of age stories. I also happen to like teenage vampires trying to live with their condition. This...was terrible. The reader sounded like he didn't want to be there, and, after listening to the story, yeah, I can totally understand why. Typically, I give a book halfway through it before I give up on it, but, man, this was a struggle.
The story is one of those were nothing really happens. While I enjoy Slice-of-life stores this is more of a slice-of-death, and not in the entertaining way either.
Take my advice, instead of getting this Try something like the Reformed Vampires' Support Group. At least things HAPPEN while they're busy being miserable.

    Publisher's Summary:
A magical romance blossoms in the follow-up to WINGS, the bestselling novel described by Stephenie Meyer as "a remarkable debut".
"I can't just storm in and proclaim my intentions. I can't 'steal' you away. I just have to wait, and hope that someday you'll ask," Tamani said. "And if I don't?" Laurel asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "Then I guess I'll be waiting forever."
It's been almost a year since Laurel discovered that she is a faerie, placed with human parents as an infant to help protect the gateway to the faerie realm of Avalon. Although she's come to accept her true identity, Laurel refuses to turn her back on her human life-and especially her boyfriend, David-to return to the faerie world. But when she is summoned to Avalon to relearn her long-forgotten faerie magic, Laurel must depend on the charismatic faerie sentry Tamani.
Her feelings for him are undeniable, and she is forced to make a choice-a choice that could break her heart. When a deadly enemy resurfaces and puts both Laurel's life and Avalon in danger, Laurel must draw on all her human strength as well as her faerie skills to save both of her worlds and all of those she holds dear.
    Critic Reviews:
Mixing a little bit of Harry Potter and a lot of Twilight, Pike has hit on a winning combination. Yet it is her own graceful take on life inside Avalon that adds a shimmering patina sure to enthrall readers. (Booklist)
    Members Reviews:
    A Spellbinder.
This book continues the story of Laurel, who suddenly grew a huge blue flower out of her back, just one of the things which told her she was a fairy.
Not the kind of stuff for a fortyish woman to read, right? wrong! This is not a book for babies, but either for the young or the young at heart. In short, for anyone fascinated with the Faye, and who always wanted to be one, and wondered what it would be like. wonder no more.
I liked this book better than its predecessor, as we saw the inside of the realm of Avalon, and Laurel's poignant struggle to reconcile her two worlds, and the two rather hot guys tugging at her heart. Personally, I think she chose the wrong one, but, there you go!
All in all, with the well told, quick moving story, and the beautiful naration, I found this a lovely read, and can't wait for book three.

    a warm bubble bath
I don't know why Eva Ibbotson is under the category of "younger readers" in book shops- her stories just a lovely bit of escapism without any gratuitous sex or bad language or violence, which adults can enjoy every bit as much as younger readers and are as soothing to the soul as a warm bubble bath! just wish it wasn't abridged, so 1 less star because it just wasn't long enough!

    Perfect for my students
I teach incarcerated juveniles and this was the perfect book to read with them. It is full of true to life experiences that my students can relate to and learn from. The author definitely knows the ups and downs of students who experience issues that can have lifelong consequences. I also appreciated the author's study guide that goes with this. I used parts of it--journals are a great way to get kids thinking.
    Love it
This was a great book. The locations they talk about are real. Other than Truth or Consequences, they do not mention other cities he lived in. I know they are real though cuz I lived there. Those places really exist. His story is not unique to many Latino youth, which is unfortunate. This book is a window into a world most gringitos never know.
Muchacho is reaching our at-risk Latino students
We continue to get great response from our eleventh grade reading lab students to Muchacho; I wish we'd taken before and after pictures of them when they were working on their state tests - I have NEVER seen such a dramatic attitude change in students. Several mentioned, in interviews two weeks ago, that they had finally put the reading pieces together while reading this book...it was wonderful to hear.
Teachers didn't understand, at first, how the book would reach students, because most of us don't come from the same place as our students, but now that they've heard the rich discussion, and have seen the students' level of engagement, teachers are reading the book differently, as well.
    book
great book for my Latino students and other ESL students. Good subject matter. good for high school library to have.
    life changing book
This book is great I loved it so much
I'm only 15 and in highschool and the same thing happened I was a juvenile in training and I fall in love with this girl who changes my thoughts about everything

    Pleasantly Surprised
Because this book is priced so low and lacked any reviews, I was reluctant to spend the money. But I am so glad I did. This is a really good YA zombie book. It has a good plot, is interesting, and funny. I don't know if the author plans on writing a sequel/series based on this character, because she easily could, but if not the story ends in a good place and left me satisfied (I plan on purchasing more books written by this author in the future).
About the narrator: I think they got the right narrator for the book. She's got the right voice for a teenage girl and the performance is golden.
Overall, this audiobook is well worth the cost.
    Jay Stacey, NOT Stacey Jay
Got this book despite the plot sounding less than ideal for my tastes because I've enjoyed Stacey Jay books. Don't get mixed up like I did - this is Jay Stacey! Silly mistake.
This book was entertaining for a YA book, but sooooo annoying when the main character constantly makes the same mistakes over and over again (eg "Im the only one in the world that can solve this problem and I shouldn't discuss it with anyone else first"). I could hardly stand to finish it.
    Cute Story!
This book definitely captured the tumultuous feelings of adolescence. I did not expect much from this book, but I was definitely surprised. I fell into the drama surrounding Megan's crush, and was brought back to my own high school experience. I'm giving this book 4 stars because there was excessive character descriptions that seemed unnecessary and only functioned as filler. All in all, this is a great listen for readers of any age.
    Fun and Easy
This is a fun zombie gore fest/ queen-bee mean girl coming of age story. Its also funny and heartwarming . . . somehow. . .
    great amusing read
loved the book - amusing - narrator suited the character wonderfully. Although I don't think I would want my teen to read this book - more of an adult book

    Sweet, very special book!
It's a very sweet touching book. It's a shame is abridged. I am
a hopeless romantic and really enjoyed it! Eva Ibbotson's writing is really magical!
    Curate's egg
I love all the Eva Ibbotson books and can read them on a loop. Unfortunately I had to go for the abridged versions on Audible because the Kate Lock unabridged ones are impossible to listen to. (I returned mine - which means you can't review them...but other reviewers have said exactly what I think anyway.) This one is better; at least the voice is quite pleasant and the reading sympathetic. However, all the foreign phrases are so mispronounced as to be unintelligible (and she does absolutely the worst Geordie accent I've ever heard). A cringe. Don't the actors think to research this first? And isn't there an editor at Audible who can help when they mess up? Does nobody check? I don't think that is asking too much.
