I'll Be Seeing You

I once had the book when it come out when I was a teen. I long ago got rid of it. Seems there a book or two from the past I want on Kindle now that it had the opinion.

I have read a few of Lurlene's books when I was teen, even though I can't remember them now, I'll Be Seeing You seems to be my favorite and the one I remember the most. Even though there are some 90s references at least by some of the things the characters used, is noticeable, But to me I think that, that's what makes this book timeless, and to fair, most of Lurlene's books are like that.

I have to say I may have thought of book a little differently now that I'm older and not a teenager like the ones in the book. I may have thought that Carley being a little selfish in not telling Kyle the truth about her face. I mean I know teens can be cruel. But I find that - personally - had she told Kyle the truth Carley should trusted he wouldn't have just walked away from her. Mostly because - if she had told him when he was blind even after getting to know him after a few days that yes she could get hurt, but she would be leaving (that is if she waited till she was discharged to tell him) or she could at least hope as she seemly hope that he would stay blind and sight or no sight, he wouldn't look for her.

I think Carley knew that Kyle was different from other guys, which I could see, like he said he was shy around girls (though to Carley she thought he was good-looking) And he was a science lover, so he wasn't quite your avenge guy who's type-casted as a nerd or jock. Well, I guess in a sense Kyle is a a bit of a nerd but... he still is adorkable.

As for the end, as much as I thought it was bittersweet, first how Kyle found out the truth about Carley and the fight because of her not being honest and Carley assuming Kyle would think her a 'freak' because of her face. I did think the end rushed way too fast to make it a 'happy ending'. And as much as I love the ending, I would have loved to see another chapter or at least an epilogue, maybe of the two of them going to Kyle's school dance (at least reader hopes they did) - or at least Carley's calling Kyle after his 'Be Mine' message.

Even though I'm older, I would re-read this story again. I find this is one of Lurlene's better books.

Nostalgia Read

I purchased this in a moment of nostalgia. It had been a favorite of mine as a kid but upon rereading it just didn't come across as well as it did then.

Losing Faith...

My last little review for 2010...

Losing Faith could probably be best described as Realistic YA 'Fiction. It is the sad story of a young girl who gets caught up in a supposedly harmless youth group at her church. This involvement gets extreme and deadly. The heart of the story is this young girl's sister...Brie. She is determined to find out what really happened to her sister. She is facing this and the sadness and despair of her parents while trying to deal with her feelings about the loss of her sister. Brie is steadfast and determined to understand what happened to her sister and is relentless in her quest for the truth.

Brie is not the best and kindest person before she loses her sister. As she works through the tumultuous aftermath of this tragedy everything in her life is forever changed. She loses old friends and gains a new friend in someone she would never have bothered with before. The book is not at all preachy but is just an awesome accounting of one of life's tragedies and how one young girl deals with it.

It has lots and lots of teen angst, some dark gothic characters, young love...and a bit of a surprise ending...all in all a yummy little book. I sped through it sort of nonstop!!!

Mysterious and Edgy

This book was extremely well written and has an intriguing mystery that left me wondering what really happened until the final reveal. Brie is your typical self-involved teen until the night her super religious sister falls off a cliff. Others want to deem it a suicide, but Brie just can't believe that her sister would do that. She starts digging into her sisters last days and everything just becomes more and more confusing. Things also become more and more dangerous for Brie.

As for characters, Brie was self-involved at the beginning, but while mourning her sister, and trying to get to the bottom of what really happened, she changes into a much more likable character. Faith and her friend Candace were the goody-goody, sweet religious type, but just good people that you just can't help but like. Amy and Dustin were the type of "friends" that make you think of the saying "with friends like these who needs enemies". Snotty and popular and the exact opposite of loyal. My favorite character, Tessa, who is the scary goth girl that everyone steers clear of unexpectedly becomes Brie's new best friend. She's tough as nails, but also loyal and has a really good heart. She cracked me up several times through the book. And last but not least Alis, he ends up being a great romantic interest for our MC. He's a home schooled boy whose a little quirky but so sweet and cute.

I recommend this one to YA and adult fans alike.

Great combination of tech and teen romance

You dont often get to listen to a teen coming of age novel that has tech in it. I was curious about this title so I listened to it on a lark. I have to admit it was very good, I like the way Sise puts the story together. She did a good job connecting you to the characters and each of the characters have decent depth. Another good story device is making you wait to pick up the backstory of the characters as the story progresses. Delisle narrates the story briskly and her voice is easy to listen to. This is a definite listen, a little sugar sweet, but thumbs up nonetheless.

Not as enjoyable as I expected

I was really intrigued by the concept of this book since I love nerdy protagonists, but this one was too over the top for my taste..

so we get introduced to Audrey who is a computer genius, and she have a crush on her class mate Aiden who is also a computer nerd, and then they enter this competition to invent an app to win a college tuition, so Audrey invents the Boyfriend App which matches you with your soulmate, I was hooked in this idea but after that problems occur and nothing is making sense anymore .. not Audrey or any one else .. even the plots goes over the top just so it get solved in two lines !!

I wanted to enjoy this book more than this

The Narration was nice but it wasn't the best I heard, but it did bring some life to the book specially with Aiden :)

Hackers meets Mean Girls meets Love Potion No. 9

This book was fantastically written and has a great plot, but please see below for why it gets a 2 star rating from me. Spoilers. Spoilers everywhere.

Arielle DeLisle is a FANTASTIC narrator, and I will be looking for other books read by her.

Couldn't stop listening

First solo adventure to another country some becomes more as Our heroine follows her heart instead of her instincts into the world of faerie. Can't wait to start book 2. Perfect read for the entire family...

I enjoyed reading this book. This is my first book by this author and also my first Fae book. I have heard other talk about Fae books, so I am happy to finally read one. This book is perfect for the entire family. It is a clean read too, so nothing embarrassing if neighbors hear it playing.

This is a story about a girl turning 18 and gets to travel. She meets some Fae fairies both light and dark. This story has danger, adventure and paranormal happenings in it. I found this book to be entertaining and light hearted. I look forward to the next book in this series.

The author, Anna Kyss did a great job writing this story. The plot is great and I find her imagination intriguing. The narrator, Meghan Lewis did a good job on the delivery with multiple voices and accents. All in all this is an very interesting book and a new genre for me. Good job!

The heroine killed this book

One of my problems with this book is that the heroine was never made real to me. The author only gave her as much development as you would give a passing secondary character. At the beginning, I honestly thought the heroine was a secondary character who was about to be killed or something before we met the actual heroine, because I was never given any reason to sympathize with her or to care what happened to her.

Not only was she not very well developed, but she was stupid. She never acted with any sense and she just kept going along with what the guys wanted while her only worry seemed too shallow to fit with the plot in the story.

And the one "guy" she is pining for is really kind of a jerk and has no redeeming qualities. He is too busy feeling sorry for himself and throwing tantrums to make himself likable.

And what qualities does this heroine have that makes all the guys want her except that she is pretty and will follow them dumbly wherever they lead? I wouldn't recommend this book to any Young Adult girls because I would frankly demand that they have more common sense than this.

I was surprised by the elaborated developement of the characters.

Also the fantasy story was profound with twists and turns. i really enjoyed the book.

Pleasantly Surprised

I thought the 21 year old author did an awesome job thinking this world up with Vampires and Werewolfs that are used so often in books, and It didnt make me think of Twilight through the entire 2 books, maybe at the beginning cause I think any Vampire book written after Twilight is automatically going to be compared to by Twilight lovers from now on.. She had great characters, with lots of issues that young adults really deal with like friendships, sex, drugs, peer pressure, partying, clubing, drinking too much and dealing with the Crazy ex's, but with the added killer Vampires and falling in love with Werewolfs.. I loved how the Werewolfs are the Immortal keepers of the humans from the Vampires, and are all around the world in packs to keep us safe by finding Vampire lairs.. Im excited for the 3rd book..

Not quite there

I'm not really sure how I feel about Sacrifice. Was it a good book? Yes. Was it engaging? Yes. But things were missing, and I didn't find myself enjoying Sacrifice as much as I had hoped.

First, the romance. In the previous two books, I felt it. I was swooning as much as Alera was. In Sacrifice, I didn't feel it. Sure, Kluver told me about how amazing Narian was and how sweet, but she didn't show me like she did in the previous books. I feel like there needs to be more than kissing to make me fall in love, and that's really all I got from Alera and Narian's romance. There was some swooning in this book, but it didn't last as long as I wished it would.

I could have handled a flat romance, if the rest of the story was spectacular. Unfortunately, it felt like there was a lot of build up to something that wasn't fully explained. I wanted to know more about that last battle. I wanted to know how things went down. I felt like 85% of the book was leading up to this epic battle, and then nothing. There was summary, but nothing of the actual action.

I guess that's how I feel about the entire novel, though. Legend and Allegiance were fantastic build up to Sacrifice, while fell short of what I was expecting. It felt like more of a middle novel, lots of little things happened, and one or two large things happened, but it didn't feel like its own novel. Plus, the ending wrapped up a little too fast. I would have loved having the last 10% of the novel expanded.

Sacrifice wasn't a bad book, but it didn't live up to the caliber the first two novels had set. It's a fine novel, but I wanted something more and it just wasn't there.

Hurray! Love how it all ends!

Cover love! This is the most PERFECT cover! This girl actually looks like my Alera ( you know the one I picture in my head) Love the dress. Can't wait for the book to be in my greedy little hands and devouring it's pages.:D

Alera, Narian, Steldor, London, Cannon and Shaselle, Yay they are all in the final book to this amazing series. I was so glad to see Narian back in full force commanding Hytanican with Alera by his side. Narian is just so wise and smart beyond his years. Steldor is back in all of his awe inspiring glory and chilvary, he is so easy on my reading eyes, lol. My heart still goes out to the man, he is perfect! London we all love him don't we. He is so brave, and loves his country and fellow country man, and is always willing to go to great lengths for them to keep them a sovereign country. Shaselle is always finding trouble she is a great character.

Disappointing, plot sometimes lacks direction

I really enjoy the growth of relationship between Claudia and Michael. I also love the growing friendship between Claudia and the rest of the alkins. For me, these are the best things about this story.

Overall though, I am a little disappointed in this book. I just do not find the rest of the story very exciting. There are plot points that I find contradictory and character decisions that make very little sense. Much of the story lacks real direction, and the ending feels completely unnecessary other than to create plenty of angst for the next book.

I will continue to finish the series though to see where Ting takes it.

She won't see her guardians as often. At least until she is once again in trouble which seems to happen to her a lot. There is a new threat that will force two groups to work together who don't play well with others. The whole group is back and determined to keep Claudia safe as her power grows, but will it be enough?

Claudia is coming into her own and I love that. The author did a good job surprising me on several occasions through this story. We met some new characters, some I loved, and some I despised. Michael is still more determined than ever to keep Claudia safe. Davin is back and better than ever, along with the rest of the crew. I absolutely hated/loved the ending of this book.

A 5/5 and I cannot wait to continue the series!

I really wanted to like it....

I like the concept behind this saga.It's just not going anywhere. It's alot of the same stuff over and over. No really good plot twists. I decided to stop after this book. I gave it a chance with the first two books, but I'm not going any further. It's a shame, because I really wanted to like them. The concept caught me, but the storyline couldn't keep me. Also, these books must be published by a small house because the editing is horrible. My fingers were itching to reach for my red pen the whole time I was reading. Just a small pet peeve of mine.
