You have half our gifts, I have the other ...
When English girl Sky catches a glimpse of bad boy Zed in her new American high school, she can't get him out of her head. He talks to her with his thoughts. He reads her mind. He is the boy she will love for ever. Shadows stalk her past but a new evil threatens her future. She must face the dark even if it means losing her heart. Will Sky have the strength to embrace her power and be brave enough to control her own destiny, or will the demons of her past prevent her from realizing her true potential?
    What the Narrator Says
"I absolutely loved narrating this trilogy. YAF is a guilty pleasure of mine and I really fell for all of the Benedict brothers! I think my favourite is Stealing Phoenix - she's such a fab character, full of fire (to match Yves's) and really feisty. But the big question is - who's your favourite Benedict boy? I think mine is probably Zed for his dark moodiness although I really like Xavier's great sense of humour." Lucy Price-Lewis, narrator of Joss Stirling's Trilogy.
    Critic Reviews:
"An edge-of-your-seat paranormal romance for girls who want more than just a romance." (Lovereading4kids)
"Joss Stirling is such a talented writer with imaginative storylines, exciting and fast-paced plots which are thrilling and full of suspense." (Book Passion for Life Blogspot)

    Adored this charming paranormal
Where does Finding Sky rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Not sure about a ranking system, since I read a eclectic range of books. I thought Finding Sky was one of the better YA/NA books I have listened to, and it definitely worked well as an audio/audible book. The reader was perfect. She is one of my favorites.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I loved Sky. Her snarky British sense of humor is perfection, and she was a genuinely nice person, as well.
    Which scene was your favorite?
I loved any of the interactions between the hero and Sky, especially when they were bantering back and forth. There was a lot of charm, humor and tenderness between the two main characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I found this book difficult to put down, and I got a bit snarly when I was interrupted. I have purchased the next two in the series, and am happy that the same reader is doing both.
    Any additional comments?
This novel is the perfect combination of reader and content. Loved it, and I hope to see the reader do many more novels with British heroines. She is perfect.
I kind of regret using a credit on this one
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The first half - yes. The second have I found myself frustrated with the heroine's actions. Did she ever show her strengths?!?!?
    Any additional comments?
The narrator did an amazing job.
I think this book should have had a sequel about Sky. I think the heroine has a lot of growing (up) to do. It did not feel complete. The next book is about Phoenix and Yves.
I am not sure this book was worth an audible credit. I may listen to the next book in the series if the audio version goes on sale not more than $1.99. You can get the audio version for $4.49 if you buy the kindle version for $12.99.

    Betrayal not bad
It's started out weird like a Barbie girl thing but that's not at all what's it's like. I did enjoy the book after a few chapters.

    Disappointed
The audible story was actually interesting and fine to listen to and I even found myself rooting for the heroine. However the central character in this novel, Starling, is a coward who is gripped by fear. There are many opportunities in this story for her to get a grip on her life but she doesn't. She hurts a lot of people along the way, even leaving a close friend scared because of her incompetence. The book ends with her being exactly where she belongs! It's probably the only redeeming high point in this book!
    The Starling Saga
It was great and suspenseful. I love that the lead girl was not wishy washy on her choices and when it came down to being strong she was and loved Heather.
Can't wait for the next title in this series!
If you could sum up Starling in three words, what would they be?
    Complex and surprising.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Starling?
The scene where Fenn dicovers his armory and likens himself to a ninja:) After reading the previous series (Wonder Strange), I really love this new redeemed Fennrys.
Which character as performed by Lesley Livingston was your favorite?
Heather - because she seems to be one of the biggest surprises and there is serious potential in her character. Also really like how Lesley portrays her through the reading.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    yes!
    Any additional comments?
Can't wait till the next book in this series comes out. If Lesley will be reading that one too, I will be delighted to purchase that audiobook as well.

    Publisher's Summary:
Val Shapiro has a secret she's desperate to keep - she's lost her slayer powers.
As the new guardian of the Encyclopedia Magicka, Val expected the books to give her powers to replace those that disappeared after she lost her "V card" to Shade. But the encyclopedia exacts a price for every spell, making the job of guardian a tricky proposition.
When a rogue demon kidnaps Val's roommate, Gwen, and Micah, leader of the San Antonio Demon Underground, Val is plunged into the middle of a Solomon's Choice. The rogue wants the dangerously potent Encyclopedia Magicka in exchange for her friends' lives; the succubus leader of the Demon Underground in Austin is demanding the books be destroyed rather than let them fall into the wrong hands and wants Shade for herself, swearing to do everything she can to prevent Val's turning over the books.
The kidnapping isn't the only crisis Val faces. She's been betrayed by Fang. Demons and vampires are disappearing. The vamps of the New Blood Movement are forcing Val to keep the terms of her agreement to work for them to combat this new threat. The Demon Underground is challenging Micah's leadership, and everyone is depending on a now-powerless Val to set things right.
Val needs all the help she can get. Even if it means forgiving Fang and spending time with a dangerously sexy cowboy-vampire.

    GREAT SERIES!
I loved this book. The series gets better with each installment. Lots of different Fae characters each with different powers. Strong beautiful Vampires with plenty of Vampire politics. Plenty of action, a good mystery and a some nice romance. I highly recommend.
    enjoyable series, entertaining
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes I enjoyed listening bc I can did other things while I do.
Would you be willing to try another one of Mare Trevathans performances?
I have listened to the entire series. The worst part is the narration. The principal character is young but the narrator has a very odd voice not one of someone young. I almost did not purchase the first book in the series but the story seemed fun so I opted to give it a try. Each book is no easier to listen to her as the story teller.
Do you think Make Me needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes the story is clearly not compete.

    Publisher's Summary:
Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans, killing them to absorb their energy. But this summer the underwater clan targets Jason Hancock out of pure revenge. They blame Hancock for their mother's death and have been waiting a long time for him to return to his family's homestead on the lake. Hancock has a fear of water, so to lure him in, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter, Lily. Easy enough - especially as Calder has lots of practice using his irresistable good looks and charm on ususpecting girls. Only this time Calder screws everything up: he falls for Lily - just as Lily starts to suspect that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined. And just as his sisters are losing patience with him.
    Members Reviews:
    Lies and Love
Calder White has a score to settle. Though, his heart's not quite as into revenge as his marauding mermaid sisters' but a promise is a promise. And the only fair debt for a promise broken and the fate of their mother, is the death of Jason Hancock. If Calder plays his role right, a part he's confidently played many times before, he'll receive the freedom he desires. Unfortunately Lilly Hancock isn't like any prey he's lured before and Calder won't know what's got it's hooks in him until it's too late.
Lies beneath is not the typical mermaid fairytale. A lot of the choices Brown makes gives this book a refreshing facelift to the tried and used concepts surrounding the genre. My favorite part of Lies Beneath is the male perspective. I found Calder's voice interesting and different. It reminded me of a guy version of Cinderella with his evil stepsisters and good heart. Lilly was fun as well, not being the typical quirky artsy character, into fine arts or fiction but poetry. The only downside is the story line wasn't complex enough. You could very easily see where things were going. Yet the characters, romance, and Brown's unique take on the mythology keeps the reader's interest from focusing too much on any transparencies.
MacLeod Andrews has a great voice for YA, it's mature without being too old. I've gotten a few audiobooks featuring him and his reads are always a pleasure. Andrews voice is nice and deep, his acting is subtle with wonderful inflections that really guide a listener to a character's mood or intent. He also has a great range of voices. MacLeod Andrews is quickly becoming an impulse purchasing factor for me to buy now, find out what it's about later.
Anne Greenwood Brown's debut is a little something different with a lot of great things going for it. Lies Beneath is an entertaining read told by an unusual voice just in time for beach reading season.
    Nice story
Would you consider the audio edition of Lies Beneath to be better than the print version?
Yes, because MacLeod Andrews is a terrific narrator and brings a wonderful dimension to the story that you don't get with print.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Hm... I liked Calder, the narrator. He was interesting, a murderous merman who started out as a human boy. He's got a lot of depth to him. He's a killer but for some reason trying to avoid killing lately.

    A touch of John Wyndham
Henry is a hero in the making, though not in the conventional sense. The rebellious teenager is forced to join his Mother (widowed) as she seeks employment somewhere beyond the proverbial black stump.
Everything is perfect in Newton - not!
I'm not sure this book is for teenagers as it has its graphic moments - in gory detail - but this aging teenager thoroughly enjoyed the roller coaster that was Henry's ride to fame.
The writing style has a touch of John Wyndham about it (and that is a complement) with its skilful crafting of plot-twists and turns-yet not overly complicating things with too many characters and sub-plots.
This is my first Andrew Taylor ebook and it will not be my last. Not a formatting issue in site is a bonus. Peter Eerden
    A book for younger readers
Unfortunately, I thought I had found an Andrew Taylor novel that I had not read. Instead I found another Andrew Taylor who obviously writes for young teens. Even for those so young, it was a very simple read and predictable.

All Airel ever wanted was to be normal, to disappear into the crowd. But bloodlines can produce surprises, like an incredible ability to heal. Then there's Michael Alexander, the new guy in school, who is impossibly gorgeous... and captivated by her. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she can hear the sound of pages turning, and another, older story being written. It is the story of an ancient family, of great warriors, of the Sword of Light, and the struggle against an evil so terrible, so far-reaching, that it threatens everything. Airel knew change would be an inevitable part of life. But can she hold on when murder and darkness begin to close in and take away everything she loves? Will she have what it takes when the truth is finally revealed?

It could have been so good
The back story was awesome. The present story line was torturer. It would have need nice if Airel wasn't such a ding bat.
    worst book ever
struggled through the entire book. really boring, wish I could get my money back. if i want to read a book that was in B.C time.. I would have bought one.
    I love this book
when I started reading this book I had no idea the twist that came I loved it I read it again and order the next book to bad it's not in audio format yet I hope it comes soon and the others in the series.
    Better than expected
Would you listen to Airel again? Why?
Probably not, but I have so many books I haven't listened to yet it's vary unlikely I'd listen to vary many of my books more than once.
What other book might you compare Airel to and why?
    Twilight
    Which scene was your favorite?
    Sorry no spoilers here
    Any additional comments?
At first the book comes across as another teen girl angst book. I.E. Twilight. But it gets away from that to some degree and has some unique scenes. I was surprised that even though the book inched an excerpt from the next book it is the only one of the series on audible. Seeing as the book was released in 2012 I find it surprising the second book didn't get written or released if it was.
You have to get past the goofy beginning....
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I suppose. The story drew me in (after I got past the extreme eye-rolling during the first part of the book). The main character is so... pre-teen? in her behavior that I just couldn't relate at all. I don't remember ever behaving in such an immature matter toward boys. It's just not very believeable. But I suppose the author was attempting to point out (very quickly, I might add... another point to struggle with) that Airel had some growing up to do and she had to grow up quickly. If that wasn't the authors point, then I suppose he may not know much about young women (a very plausible possibility). Still, once I got past that part of the book, the overall story was good.
If youve listened to books by Aaron Patterson before, how does this one compare?
    never have in the past
What about Phil Gigantes performance did you like?
LOVE Phil Gigante... who has a wonderfully melodic voice. In fact, I found this book mainly because I was looking for books narrated by Phil Gigante :)
Could you see Airel being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Perhaps a Lifetime or Hallmark mini-series.

    Publisher's Summary:
Penelope (Lo) Marin has always loved to collect beautiful things. Her dad's consulting job means she's grown up moving from one rundown city to the next, and she's learned to cope by collecting (sometimes even stealing) quirky trinkets and souvenirs in each new place - possessions that allow her to feel at least some semblance of home. But in the year since her brother Oren's death, Lo's hoarding has blossomed into a full-blown, potentially dangerous obsession.
She discovers a beautiful, antique butterfly pendant during a routine scour at a weekend flea market and recognizes it as having been stolen from the home of a recently murdered girl known only as "Sapphire" - a girl just a few years older than Lo. As usual, when Lo begins to obsess over something, she can't get it out of her mind.
As she attempts to piece together the mysterious "butterfly clues", with the unlikely help of a street artist named Flynt, Lo quickly finds herself caught up in a seedy, violent underworld much closer to home than she ever imagined - a world, as she'll ultimately discover, that could hold the key to her brother's tragic death.
    Critic Reviews:
"A debut worth picking up. Stark and realistic." (RTBook Reviews)
"An engaging mystery starring a teen girl with obsessive-compulsive disorder. A pleasing mix of realism, tension, intrigue and romance." (Kirkus Reviews)
"In a strong, twisty thriller of a debut, Ellison builds tension effectively, creating credible portraits of both the decaying, violent streets of Neverland and the compulsions that make Lo such a complex and memorable heroine." (Publishers Weekly)

    Enjoyable
I enjoyed listening to this book. Slightly quirky, good plot. Well worth the time & money.
    Dull beginning, Predictable ending
I thought the story was never going to get started. I almost quit before the story started to finally began to unfold.. All I have to say is if you listen to this story you better be ready to tap, tap, tap, banana. Trust me don't waste your credit or time.
Review: "The Butterfly Clues" by Kate Ellison
I've never been one for murder mysteries and whodunnits. Well, except for Midsommer Murders, and I think my enjoyment of that is more associative as it reminds me of pleasant Sunday evenings with my parents. So it's fairly surprising that I should enjoy a book which is basically a light murder mystery for a YA audience.
Lo, the first person protagonist of The Butterfly Clues, really appealed to me. If you look at some of the reviews of this book around the internet, it seems like she's a character you either like or loathe. This is mostly because of her OCD. Lo has an obsession with the number 3 and its multiples. They are her "safe" numbers. Her illness has also resulted in her becoming a hoarder and a bit of a klepto to boot. Her illness also means she can never pass through any doorway without tapping three times and then saying "banana". She... has problems.
It seems like a lot of readers found her annoying because of her constant counting and her repetitive, obsessive-compulsive nature. A lot of readers seemed to miss the point that Lo felt the same way! It was meant to be irksome, almost an inconvenience to the reader, because that allows us to empathise with her.
