The adventure continues

In book 3, Joy faces some intriguing challenges, including finding a forgotten door to a world that's been hidden away, as well as figuring out how she has changed herself by taking on her fae nature. This was an excellent book, with continued character development, excellent twists, and good plot development. I can't wait to read book 4 and would recommend the entire series to anyone who enjoys fantasy books.

A welcome return to dearly beloved characters.

Dawn Metcalf returns us to a world that both provokes our imaginations and is entirely believable. It is aware author that can write a book that captivates both young adult and mature audiences; this is just such a trilogy!

Intrigue Abounds in the Wildly Beautiful Twixt

Magic and mayhem! Intrigue abounds! A huge mystery, political maneuvering, the joys and sorrows of becoming one of the Twixt, AND a cliffhanger ending! This book was a wild, wild adventure, and I loved every single moment.

Amazing book

I absolutely love this book. Dawn has such a vivid story and I loved every second of reading it.

Sixteen year old Luke Manchett is a popular kid at school. He plays rugby, hangs out with all the right people, and as a bonus the most popular girl in the school likes him. When his father, the well known Dr. Horatio Manchett dies and leaves Luke everything, Luke discovers that all is not as it seems. he gets dragged into a world of ghosts and necromancy and someone is always watching, waiting for his next move, counting on his mistakes.

I enjoyed reading this book, and the idea is great. However, I didn't find many things that made 13 Days of Midnight stand out from other wonderful books. I rarely read books written by male authors (although I'd love to, there just don't seem to be as many!) and this one was a refreshing read.

In the end I liked the ghosts more than the main characters. (I mean, what!) I understand that Luke is a typical teenager, obsessed with fitting in, but his trust in Elza seems sudden and poorly constructed on the writer's part. The ghosts get a much better development. The Vassal is seemingly trustworthy, but soon his betrayal is discovered. The Judge appears to only speak the truth, but his words carry more weight.

Elza is intriguing. I'd like to know more about her, motives, interests, etc. I think her original distrust of Luke also faded too quickly with very little explanation. I liked the plot a lot more than the characters, the storyline was complex and not always predictable. Perhaps the second book will act on the promise of this series.

Good YA horror tale

13 Days of Midnight falls more on the horror end of the YA paranormal spectrum. Itâs not the type of book I read very often, but I found myself enjoying it a lot.

Luke Manchett has been estranged from his father for years, so he is surprised to learn that his father has died and left him a large inheritance. All he has to do to receive the money is sign a rather vague contract with his fatherâs lawyer. Luke hesitates, but with millions at stake, he agrees to sign. Then Luke finds out that his father was a necromancer, and that he has agreed to take on his fatherâs Host of eight spirits. These spirits go beyond creepy; some of them are furious with their imprisonment, and when they realize Luke has no idea what heâs doing, they determine to murder him and free themselves. With Halloween fast approaching, Luke only has days to figure out how to save himself, his invalid mother, and everyone in his town from these vengeful spirits.

ok story, great performance

I love Jason and will listen to anything he reads. That guy could make an IKEA instruction book sound sexy. He did struggle a little finding a good accent for Shin (I would have just stuck with a straight American accent) but it didn't deminish the performance too much.

The story is OK as long as you can get past the lack of research on behalf of the author in to Japanese culture. A lot of the book relies on tropes. My biggest issue is the names. Quan isn't a Japanese name. It grated all the way through. Otherwise I liked the general journey of the story.

I really enjoyed how the characters met and their interaction. The secondary characters were strong too. This was well plotted and shaped. I thought it was a very cute YA story.

Have you listened to any of Jason Fraziers other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first book by Jason Frazier I have listened to and I was astounded. I have never heard a narrator do "other" voices so well. Yes, I knew which one was Kevin, but then the accents for the other characters like Shin, and the female characters, blew me away because they were so distinct. He is definitely an actor I would like to listen to again.

An Eerie Wintry Tale

This book is not what I expected, but Im starting to get used to that having read other books by this author. Winnie, a feisty girl who lives on the streets is brought to a large house in the country by Thaddeus Blake as his housekeeper. She suspects that something about the situation is very wrong but never in her wildest dreams did she imagine the terrors that found her.

In this twisted tale of love, revenge and fear, the author keeps us guessing until the very last page. Winnie isnt completely naïve but innocent and as a reader you root for her to find the truth, find a way to survive. This is a very eerie and wintry tale, and I thoroughly recommend the audio version.

The Sweet Start Of Love & Adventure

I have never listened to anything by Tim O'Rourke before but thought I would give it a try! I am soooo glad that I did ... I enjoyed every second from the strange beginning verging on stalking and desperation to the happy friendship that steadily develops and has you wondering what will happen next! What a well written story with unusual qualities and themes ... A must read!

As for the narration by Anna Parker-Naples; when I first started listening I found her voice a bit dull .... However as the story continued I actually enjoyed the way she changed voices and expressed panic, worry, fear, longing and many other emotions by adjusting her tone and speed at just the right moment. I would quite happily read another story that was written or narrated by them!

A good elaboration for "If I stay".

The start was surprising for where it was left previously. But,the end was kinda obvious.

What happened after she stayed?

Wow! From start to finish, totally drawn in and wow. Not only is the narration perfect but the story too. Intense, emotional and somehow riverting with beautiful simplicity. In the way this sequel is written, you experience everything from being in a new york diner to adams greif. I finished if i stay with all these unanswered questions and now have closure and can let it go. A must read sequel.

Even better than the first book!

If you've read "If I Stay" then you will absolutely love "Where She Went". It's so interesting seeing the progression with these characters and my main criticism (only criticism) is that I feel some parts of the book were a little rushed. This one could have been a bit longer and I feel it would have improved it's flow. But believe me, this is just an amazing book from start to finish in which Gayle Forman continues to be as poetically poignant as ever!

rarely does a sequel overcome the original but I think it's one of these cases! the book is very sweet and from a very different prospective. it's what you expect but it's not and it's still surprising and sweet! definitely worth a read!

The writing and performance were awesome but I couldn't finish it because it was too sad. I can't say for sure that there isn't a HEA but I can guesstimate with certainty that there isn't. I just couldn't deal. I'm returning this one.

Reoccurring Nightmare!

I've listened to almost every audio that Anya Monroe has available on Audible. I have come to enjoy Anya's stories and I look forward to listening to more stories author Anya Monroe writes. I must say that because I don't care for reading that I guess I'll have to wait for her to add more of her stories to Audible. I had problems with the lead character Penny as a started the story but as I continued to listen to the story I realized why she acted the way she did. I really liked her best friend Oliver, who happened to be gay but he was a very dedicated friend to Penny. This story was intriguing, unique, I felt it was mysterious, and filled with some twists and turns.

Miranda Stewart had a smooth and soothing voice although I didn't care for the voice that the narrator used when Penny was thinking to herself. I haven't heard this particular narrator before and her voice was a somewhat a bit monotone at times but with some more work Miranda Stewart could be a great narrator. I give the author Anya a perfect 5 stars but I have to give the narrator 4 stars for the way she worked her equipment and how it sounded fake at times. I still highly recommend that you should give this story a listen, you won't regret it.

Unsuspecting Story

Would you listen to The Dream Catcher again? Why?

Maybe, I don't generally re-read, listen, or watch something more than once. If, I didn't have anything else to occupy my mind I would probably listen again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Penny/Penelope, Her character takes you from a selfish teen only thinking of herself to experiencing trauma, to discovering her self and growing from it.

What does Miranda Stewart bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Her tone is like in a scary movie or dramatic movie where the music keys you in that something is about to happen so pay attention.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, the ending was so unexpected and heartbreaking that put me in a state of shock.
