I thought the storyline was esoteric and I didn't much care for it.

Thought provoking, well developed plot and characters. Commendable attention to details in settings and historical content. Interesting and unexpected twists of plot make this an enjoyable read.

Great book. Kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Very descriptive and full of plot twists. Incredibly well written novel.
    More than meets the eye
Great book that makes you reflect on yourself and history. An action novel that really is not but makes you look at your life.
    Too wordy
I listened to the unabridged CD's and found them a little tedious. I would have given up on reading the book after a couple of chapters. It's basically a good story, brilliant in places, but the whole thing needs serious editing. It's too full of under-graduate tittle tattle. The first 10 chapters could easily be compressed into 2 without loosing any of the essentials. I read a review comparing it to 'The da Vinci Code'. It bears no comparison. The 'da Vinci Code' is several magnitudes better. It's a more exiting story and infinitely better written.
Sorry about this. A noble effort but too much unnecessary detail.

    Another narrator distraction
I'm only a couple hours into the audiobook, and I'm thinking, "why didn't I listen to a sample before buying it?".
The story so far is quite well-written... but the narrator has a strong English accent and uses frequent English pronunciations. This isn't a problem -- aside from the oddity of much of the story being about the FBI and set in the USA -- until he attempts American accents; the results are distracting to say the least -- often becoming cartoonish. I keep visualizing Yosemite Sam when he voices one of the characters.
More straight reading and less acting would be appreciated.
I should add that there's a spoiler at the beginning of the audiobook; for some reason the outline of the story is read first -- needlessly revealing several plot points. I don't appreciate this in movie 'trailers'; I don't appreciate it here.
    Definition of Thriller
This book is exciting, pacy, driven and intensely thrilling. Its a genuinely good heist story with a crackling dynamic between dashing ex thief and vibrant FBI agent. I love the spark and tension between these two and all the other brillant myriad of characters. Its just plain fun to listen to when these days thriller writers tend to lose their way by being over complicated, over dramatic, patronizing, psychological cliche drivel which no one really enjoys. What people want is a good story and this is it!

This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Research the actual events before you listen to it.
What was most disappointing about Edna O'Briens story?
This book was a very detailed story that could have been much bettter if the author let you know right up front that it is based on a true story. More depth into the people would have helped.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
    Narration was fine
Not sure how I felt about this
I've read her work before, and this was good, but it was so closely based on a true story that I felt uncomfortable reading it as fiction.
    Comprehending Evil
I came upon this book quite innocently. I'd heard Stephen Rea reading a couple of poems on the radio and fell in love with his voice. I searched his name on Audible and ordered the title without even reading the synopsis. I hadn't read anything of Edna O'Brien's since the 60s when she was still writing lightsome romances about convent girls busting out into the naughty wide world.
It wasn't until I'd finished listening to the whole story that I realised it was closely based on a real-life multiple killing and then read of the controversy over her use of these appallingly tragic events as a basic for fiction.
In my view O'Brien has given us an extraordinary insight into the mind of her main character. I have read all of Dostoevsky and find this novel no less moving and profound an account of an injured and insulted human being than anything produced by the Russian master.
Stephen Rea captures every nuance of this anguished, often transcendently lyrical text in a reading which at times left me sobbing in my armchair.
    Blood-curdling Horror
One of the most horrifying tales I've ever come across.
'eyes like holes filled with vistas of nowhere...'
    Brilliantly read.

    Mediocre
After having tortured myself by sticking with this book to the inept end, I am writing to spare the unsuspecting. The premise sounded intriguing, but the actual plot, and I use the term very loosely here, was dull, had poor focus and little substance. The ending read like the author suddenly tired of writing the book and just abruptly finished it off. Instead of a mastermind, Mission impossible like plan that would actually be needed to take a major cruise liner, especially after the Achille Lauro, this book describes essentially a walk onto the ship that you'd have to be brain dead to believe. Fast paced? Unh,unh. Thriller? I don't think so. Put this on your 'avoid' list.
    Poorly formed
I found this book extremely difficult to get through. The characters were very poorly formed or developed and the plot was outlandsih.
    When's the movie?
First of all, the narration is excellent. I am looking forward to searching out other titles read by this actor. The plot is interesting, has a couple of good twists, but there's a little too much of it for a book of this length. The main characters are intriguing. Some of the secondary characters are two dimensional. I'm guessing this is an author who enjoys going to movies. I'd rather see this on the screen than save the book on my shelf.

    OBed! O Breakfast!
Having read several other books by Robert Dalby, I was anxious to read this one and was not disappointed. Being from the south, it is like reading about my own home town.
Don't judge this one by its cover.
Don't be fooled by the silly title or the droll cover of this book, for inside its pages is a real treat. There is a movie being made in the small town of Rosalie, MS and the owners of the three local bed and breakfasts are all vying to play host to the famous actress who will portray the starting role. As they each woo her in their own way over the course of one weekend, they are up agaist a band of conservative old bitties who form the "casserole patrol" to picket and protest against the film being made. In the end, each player gets their due and the Hollywood actress learns a thing a two about the way things really are in the South. This book pokes fun of the sterotypical Southern characters we often see and is all the more entertaining for it. I would recommend it as a quick and very light read to fans of Southern ficion.
    An insult to my intelligence
I picked this up to read before heading to a B&B on vacation.I don't know what possessed this author to write this particular story, but it certainly wasn't any knowledge of the movie or hospitality industries. The characters, who spout platitudes right and left, are barely 2-dimensional stereotypes. The title is cute, but don't be fooled.
    Hilarious Tale
If you are looking for a serious novel, this one is not for you. However, if you are looking for a well ploted story with great adult humor and full of fun, this is exactly what Robert Dalby delivers.

    So So
I usually like these sort of stories.. Kick butt female hero confronts the world. But I confess Rachel Blu left me cold. As a heroine I just had no empathy for her. I know she was raised to be an uber-thief, have no emotions, be self-sufficient etc. But somehow all this training left me with a heroine I just didn't care about. Likewise I'm not a big fan of stories involving thievery an occupation. Perhaps if Blu had been several years into her new career and developed some humanity I could be interested in her. But, her lack of emotional development, actual age, and inexperience in human relations made her sexual encounters uninteresting and virginal.
I do think Hauf's writing is technically quite good. She does a great job with description and plot... But her characters seem to be emotionless mannequins, of the James Bond variety.
    2 Stars.
    Too much action
I agree with the previous review where it says this is like a James Bond movie. It is a series of fight scenes joined together with a single plot. I like the way the character develops. I don't like that there is no relief from the battles. Every time Rachel Blu conquors an obstacle, a bigger one appears immediately. She gets no rest, yet keeps on fighting. It's just too much. The ending doesn't fit the rest of the story, either. It's like the author got tired and just wrapped it up.
    Mixed Feelings
Interesting premise but way too much angst from the heroine. At times seemed to drag because she just kept talking to herself, pumpinig herself up, etc. Romance is minimal, but action is good and realistic for the most part given the premise. I'd be willing to go with this author again but it wouldn't be my first choice.

    Insightful. Thoughtful. Chilling.
What other book might you compare Cause for Concern to, and why?
Ruth Rendell's 'Harm Done.' The characters are believable and the storyline easy to grasp and yet captivates and entertains. The observations of human emotions and especially power imbalances are insightful. Unashamedly goodreads without any pretentious flummery.

    Editorial Reviews:
Rife with nail-biting suspense and political intrigue, Sandy McCutcheon's gripping novel tells the story of Oscar Reilly, an agent manipulated into accepting safe haven by his government after some of his colleagues meet unexpected fates abroad.
Richard Bligh's emotive, robust baritone suits the urgency and assertiveness of McCutcheon's lean prose, and Bligh shows off impressive range in his convincing portrayal of the complex and often contentious relationship between Oscar and Anna, the woman he's forced to "wed" as part of his imposed cover.
