Don't mock. Famlies rock.

Good plot: Who knows our failings better than other family members? Perhaps no one. Who can hurt us more than anyone else? Probably our families. Some folks go through life hurting and being hurt by those closest to them, but how much better it is to get it all out, and then forgive and forget. The problem with this book along that plot line is that the author writes like a ten year old, i.e. without warmth or understanding. Ms Graham also throws in profanity seemingly just to have it there. It was one of those books I deleted from my kindle which means I would not want to re-read it when, Lord willing, I get old.

I'll give the author a free writing lesson here by suggesting she read any, or all, of the first 22 books written by Belva Plain. Mrs. Plain's last book might have been written in a hurry shortly before her death because is is not up to her usual standard. I would have preferred a different outcome with some of her first 22 books, but she gives an interesting and through word picture of each character and how they fit into their families.

CHALLENGING READ! Nicely written, anguished story premise, complex characters, great supporting cast, and the author deals sensitively with family dynamics in the face of serious illness and unforgivable life changing mistakes. HOWEVER, the discord between family members is unpleasant, many characters are NOT all that likable; specifically the heroine's self-indulgent brother who needs a swift kick in the pants AND the heroine who abandoned her family years earlier because of her inability to excuse human failure and to tolerate anyone who did not agree with her. These issues make the book painful to get through.

THIS STORY reunites former high school lovers, financial manager, Alexandra Peterson, and antiquities museum curator, Chase Carrolton, in an effort to help Alex's seriously ill brother, Robert Peterson. Absolutely Awesome!!!!

I am so glad someone before me took the time to write a review and suggest this book. It is absolutely adorable.

It's about a girl trying to recover from her divorce and finding love in her hometown. Not a new idea but presented in the freshest of ways. Full of wit and humor.

Molly Cannon is one of the most creative writers I have heard in a long time. Reminds me a bit of Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I laughed the entire way through this endearing story and hated when it was over.

Susan Bennett did such an amazing job in capturing the hometown flare. I can't say enough good things about this book without giving all the best parts away but I highly recommend it. I can't wait for Cannon's second book to be available at audible. One of my top 10 for sure!!!!

Laugh Out Loud - Funny, Adorable, Ms. Cannon

"Ain't Misbehaving" by Molly Cannon is a fun listen, especially as narrated by Susan Bennett. Set in the Great State of Texas, "Ain't Misbehaving" is an adorable tale about a recently divorced, Marly Jean Bandy, and her somewhat "lumpy" journey back into the dating world...Her newlywed, and over-protective older Brother, Lincoln...and his best friend, Jake, whose secret attraction for Marla Jean drives him crazy, and curls her toes.

This is Molly Cannon's only book on audible, and while I believe she is new to the industry, I truly hope to see many more books by her on audible, and I hope that she has Susan Bennett as her narrator.

Definitely Credit Worthy!

A Funny and Well Written Debut

This book was fun to read. It wasn't deep, serious or thought-provoking, although the main characters were both very sympathetic. It was a great weekend read. I laughed out loud several times and thought the narrator captured the characters very well. You felt sorry for the heroine but the author never let it sink to pity. Instead you had to admire her tenacity and her ability to rise above an embarrassing situation, all the while cracking jokes. The secondary story lines and characters were all well written and there are several I would like to learn more about. The older woman with a bookmobile angle was definitely unique and Marla Jean's ex was appropriately tacky.

The narrator was great and the writing was as well. I am looking forward to her next book.

Heartwarming Sweet Romance

Excellent story; lovely narration!

Donna Fasano is great at creating characters that seem real -- with the mixture of strengths and weaknesses that real people have. Best of all, she's at the top of the game in writing a sweet romance filled with emotion and characters who end up yearning for each other -- like Chelsea and Ben in this story. For comic relief, there's Ben's Aunt May.

Narrator Mary Lynn Bowen is skillful and brings this romance to life. She superb in voicing the different characters, but in Chelsea's voice, she really shines.

HIS WIFE FOR A WHILE has depth. You'll root for Chelsea. She learns, with the help of others, to overcome the tragedy of her own past, and that is what really helps her to embrace her future. She earns her happy ending.

This is a wonderful short and sweet romance

Nerdy girl meets playboy.

For a freebie not a bad book. This book describes parts of the seeder side of New Orleans concerning drugs, vamp cults and the homeless. But just in case you were wondering it isn't actually about vampires, no paranormal involved. Narrator was slightly annoying sounding, but I was able to tune her out and go with the story. Thanks Audible for the book, although I see at regular price it is only 3.46 and it would be worth that.

Another fun read.

I actually thought this story was pretty good. It kept moving and although the plot is nothing too new it didn't keep beating the same thought over and over again. Towards the end I couldn't stop listening.

I thought Gia St. Clair did a pretty good job but in all honesty she lacks with the male voices, in particular the main character, Ryan. Actually, most the male voices and the secondary female voices all sounded the same. A little boyish sounding for the females and pretty dweebish for the males. Do the narrators ever get to hear a playback before they hit send? I just don't get it. Thankfully, most the book was in her own voice or in Kayla's. Even so it was still a pretty good listen.

Listened nonstop and loved every minute

I usually listen to regency romances but picked this on a whim (the cover was pretty - that's my entire rationale).

It was surprisingly enjoyable! Both the main characters are down to earth and lovable, the plots are easy to follow, and the narration was terrific. The surrounding characters of their friends and family provide a nice backdrop as Kayla and Sean become friends and then fall in love on the set of their daytime soap. Sounds corny but it's really well done.

I definitely recommend this one as a highly enjoyable holiday read!

Very Enjoyable Romance

I was in the mood for a sweet, contemporary romance and I am so happy I picked Love in the Afternoon to listen to. It just fit the bill perfectly! It has everything you would want in a good romance story - two compelling characters, an interesting plot with a bit of mystery and some pretty good sex scenes thrown in.

Sean Barrett is an actor on one of the top rated Soaps on TV. He has been on the show for ten years despite his father's disapproval. His best friend is a famous baseball player and has issues that are affecting his game. Now Sean is paired up with a new actress and is worried that she was hired just for her pretty face.

Kayla Maxwell's mother is so excited her daughter is an actress on A New Dawn. Kayla is excited to work opposite of Sean, who she has had a crush on since she was younger. Now she has to prove herself as an actress all the while dealing with a cruel stalker who has been leaving her threatening messages.

Love in the Afternoon is a classic kind of contemporary romance that will never go out of style.

Terrific Romantic Suspense Debut

One of my favorite things to do as a reader is to read the first book by an author--or the first book in a new line/genre for that author. That was the case when I ordered RUNNING FOR HER LIFE by Beverly Long. This is her debut title for Intrigue, and I loved it! Ms. Long's book was fast-paced and fraught with plenty of action and tension. And while I guessed the culprit, I didn't mind in the least because the book was well-written and the plot was filled with plenty of danger and mystery. I especially liked the supporting characters--many of them were as well-developed as the main players. I felt like the fictional small Minnesota town in this story was a real place.

My main reason for not giving the book 5 stars (this is where I'd love a 4 1/2 option!) is because I felt the suspense element of the plot overshadowed the romance a bit. Don't get me wrong, the romance was there, but every now and then it felt forced to me. I felt more palpable tension between the hero and heroine in the scenes where the focus was on the suspense rather than the developing relationship. If you like suspense, you'll love this book. And I'm looking forward to Beverly Long's next Intrigue, DEADLY FORCE, which features the brother of RUNNING FOR HER LIFE's hero.

Easy read

Read this book in an afternoon. As a suspense story however, I felt there wasn't really anything that kept me on the edge of my seat. I would have loved if the main female character would have had a bigger impact with the outcome of the story instead of the Sherriff. The author tried to build her up all book and I really felt let down with the ending it had.

Great Action book with a dose of romance

Here is a sample of the book - (Tara couldn't stop the tears. fourteen months of pretending that she wasn't scared anymore, fourteen months of thinking that she's left it all behind, fourteen months of lying to herself. Oh, God. Her stomach hurt, her chest ached, and she couldn't get enough air. She gulped for breath, trying to hang on. )

I loved this short story. The story was intense, and made me so mad at the person that stalked, and hurt Tara. Tara was slow to trust anyone. Her life depended upon it. I'm glad one person weaved his way into Tara's heart! I love action books with a good dose of romance. I hope you like this book as much as I did!

Another 5 star win for the FAST TRACK series

I just finished the fourth installment of the fast track series. I can not put these books down. I loved- like l-o-v-e - Evan and Kendall's story. Unputdownable. I read this in about 3 hours.

Kendall always wanted to be a stock car driver. Her parents thought it was just dream and when she finally made it --- they still couldn't believe it. Evan was the boy she fell in love w at 18 and when she thought he felt the same way--- she had t realized it was there exact opposite. Until 10 years later when she's confronted with her past. He's older hotter and sexier and she couldn't believe he believed in her all along.

Evan is a man scorned. The girl he loved and planned to marry dumped him and he had no idea why. He made sure he wouldn't get hurt again- never had a steady girlfriend- vowed to never be married.

Until Kendall shows up on the race track. When he learns the reason he was dumped- he takes it like a grain of salt. He's never stopped loving her and believed in her dream and fall head over a$$ in love. Harder and deeper than when he was 19. Nothing could take away that. Their obstacles are not easy but together...they knew their love could withstand anything.

The love scenes are sexy and hot. The friendship and camaraderie of all characters in this series is awesome. The ribbing-- the girl time. It's what any reader would love to read. Can't wait for the next.

Enjoyed

So far this series isn't too bad. I've enjoyed it so far, and I enjoyed this one as well.

Enjoyable

This is the second book I've read in the Fast Track series and I enjoyed it very much. This is the story of female racecar driver Kendall Holbrook and Evan Monroe of the Monroe racing dynasty.

Kendall and Evan dated once long ago when they were 18 and broke up. Years later, they get back together and the rest is history. Kendall and Evan had great chemistry and I cared about whether or not they got together. I liked that they actually talked and had a functional relationship.

My problem with this book was that it left a lot of things hanging at the end. The conflict between Kendall and her parents was unnecessary and never resolved. It made me feel like Kendall, who for the most part seemed mature and handled things like an adult, was a surly teen.

I also didn't like that it never resolved Evan's paternity issue. That was actually mentioned in the next book, "Slow Ride," but if I were someone who didn't want to continue reading the series, I would never know the outcome.

Fun, Hot, Good Story

The entire series is great. I am on the last book now.

I love this book by Jane porter. Love the plot.

so hotly contenous!!

Vittorio Marcello d'Severano was a force of nature, a human being that inspired awe or fear in virtually everyone and jillian was not a shrinking violet either. stormy from start to finish...strong characters and good read.

Decent Story

The story was mildly entertaining. I think the author could have gone a little deeper with the plot and character development. However over all I finished the book and enjoyed it. Not one to put on the shelf to read again one day, but good enough to deserve a read once.

phoarrr! this is a powerful, tighly constructed story.

Read this only when you have plenty of time to absorb the full flavors of both characters and can roll with the emotional punches this dramatic romance pulls. Developing both the characters viewpoint worked really well and it's possible to feel the emotional issues that both H and h have with each other as well as with their family past. Jillian is desperate and will do anything to stay in baby's life and whilst Vitt wants to hate her for keeping their son from him, he hates himself for the desperation and despair that Jillian radiates in his hardhearted bargaining.

They are both proud, stubborn and unmalleable. Neither can one-upmanship the other. And neither will relent. A fully high octane, mesmerising ride - who will win the battle of wills?

It was good..SPOILERS

It was good but they spent a lot of the time being stubborn and battling one another. She did hurtful things and he said hurtful things. They do seem to be able to work when they calm done but they really only did that after the first half of the book. He wanted her to admit who she was and she was fighting it tooth and nail. That was what the book was about in general. I did feel the love but it was a withdrawn version of it because both seemed hesitant to give it up fully to the other for fear of being hurt. A previous reviewer was wrong. The hero's family was part of the mob and the hero's dad got shot getting out when the hero was 17 years old. The hero himself was never in it but he grew up with the lifestyle. It seemed that the reviewer was adamant about him having nothing to do with that life and that the heroine's fears were unfounded but they were not. She had legitimate fears and I feel awful about her sister. I wish that could have not happened because no one deserves that and I would hate her parents too if I was her...especially her dad!! I mean to go from being daddy's little girl to knowing he caused your favored sister to die because he is a selfish coward is just terrible.

A moving,engaging and well- told story

Would you consider the audio edition of The Face to be better than the print version?

I liked the character of Sarah and the way she helped me think about what life is like for people with serious disabilities.

Yes.

What does Holly Adams bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

The character of Sarah and her relationship with her aunt provide the author with a vehicle for addressing some interesting issues "faced" by many people in our world today. Sarah is easy to relate to, so the issues do not come out in a heavy handed way.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I find this question hard to answer because I truly admire Holly Adams' work. I find her interesting to listen to and particularly enjoy the way she creates diverse characters through the way she uses her voice. I do not think I would have enjoyed this story so much if she had not been reading it.

This is worth listening to. The quality of the performance and the nature of the subject matter make it well worth your time.

Face it!

There were some pretty far fetched moments in the book, but overall, quite engaging. The book certainly held my attention, and I thought the narration was very well done. It was the kind of book that had me looking forward to being in the car to listen to the next installment. I'm afraid I thought the weakest segment of the book was the ending, but I won't reveal it.

I kept thinking I could tell where the book was going, but it would veer off somewhere else. I like that about a book.

strongly suggest you read

this is a book you can barely put down. excellent book. I read it years ago and just reread which I don't often do.

Unusual suspenseful gem

I like most of Angela Hunts books (a few exceptions) This is a really good ,well researched novel about a girl born with Treacher-collins syndrome. (terrible facial malformations)

It sensitively deals with the struggle of a brilliant young girl ,isolated from the world for her entire life dealing with her handicap in a positive way. Suspense is provided by the fact that she works for the CIA as a computer analyst and gets caught up in international intrigue.

Great narration makes this book a winner.
