Not run over the path the characters follow to get to the sex scenes. The path IS the enjoyable part for the readers.

I loved Susan Donovan in her earlier books but this was pretty boring. I felt obligated to finish it but couldn't wait to get it over with. Just kind of boring. Not much fun.

The story has potential, the narrator does not...

This story was good. Considering how short it, the romance was well developed. The title is perfect because it sums up almost the whole story. If you're in the mood for a short, sexy romance, then this is the book for you.

Narrator: Zoe Hunter should go to narrator school. This book (specially the love scenes) were read like an instruction manual. Not good. A narrator like Susan Bennett would have made that snow melt in an instant!

Disappointing

I liked the author's initial description of the main character, Laura. She seemed interesting and down to earth. I wanted to know more about her. However, when I began to read about Laura's experiences with Claudio, I lost the ability to identify with the characters. Laura is described as a professional publicist, but it's clear that she has been hired to be Claudio's personal servant. Instead of finding this situation a little annoying or even humorous, she feels like a "child who has been asked to do a task that is too difficult for her." She immediately transforms from a professional young woman into "little Laura," a gushing adolescent with a twisted desire to be dominated. Not the book I was expecting. I found it a little weird how much emphasis was placed on the fact that Laura is not that attractive while Claudio is overwhelmingly gorgeous and loved by all women. He is tall, while she is short. He is adored by millions, while she constantly compares herself unfavorably to her prettier older sister. He has a rare talent, while she constantly emphasizes how ordinary she is. She worships him from the moment she sees him, while he treats people with a roguish disdain. And, of course, he is not only an insensitive womanizer, but also suffering from being secretly sensitive, emotionally vulnerable, and wounded. A bit of a stereotype without much character development.

If you are a fan of authors who say things like "the air smelled of dreams and fairy tales" (actual quote) then maybe you will enjoy this book. I was hoping for something different.

Not bad, but not great. Kind of Unbelievable.

This book is divided into 3 parts. The first part is written, first person, from he perspective of the heroine. I found it to be overly descriptive and flowery. I skimmed a lot of it. In this part, she meets the famed opera singer and falls in love at first sight. I was not crazy about the demeaning relationship they had with each other.

Great One Nalini

I really enjoyed this one from Nalini Singh. While it is not in her normal writing style, she does a great job with it. An interesting begining and while most romance readers can guess the ending, it's the trip you take to get there that makes it worth listening to.

Strangely intriguing...

I am not sure if I hate this book or I like it-- maybe it needs a second read. Its obviously an early work by Singh, as her style is much more immature and does not have as much depth of character as her Psy/changling books. But the overall plot and characters somehow still fascinated me-- i am not sure why! The hurried chapter 1 "wham bam" arranged marriage was weird, and kinda creepy, but after that it was like they were dating! They interacted like they just met-- although they supposedly had been close years before. I have listened to much worse and this never made me want to chuck my iphone across the room, so i am giving it 3 stars-- that three is probably on the low end of 3.

Wonderful Audible Read!

The story itself is not as great as other audible books I love. But the bit of music and the fabulous narration by Layla Ives made it come to life! Layla's use of accents and inflections were wonderful and made the story rush by with the excitement of sitting in a movie theater.Really Great.

Jasmine. Her growth throughout the story and her strength.

Again, I loved the job Layla Ives did. Her use of accents in acting out the book kept me glued to it. In some audible books it takes a second to figure out who is saying what because narrator is simple reading it in a monotone voice.But I was always certain of plot and who was speaking by Layla's beautiful and varied accents. I actually looked for her name as narrator with any other books to buy because this was so delightful.My enjoyment of this book was mostly due to the excellent narration! I loved it.

I have read and enjoyed Singh's Psy-Changling series. Desert Worrior is a complete dud, however.

Good Writing, Stupid Hero

While Susan Andersen's seems to be a talented writer, I did not enjoy Bending the Rules because I found the main male character Jason to be oboxious.

As a sexy, hard-working, dedicated copy, Jason (30+) had potential to be interesting. Unfortunately he whined relentlessly about being a victim of "his criminal gene pool" because most of the males in his family were convicted criminals. Yes, he had a difficult childhood but get therapy & get over it already.

Poppy was an endearing character, an artist who wanted to help underprivilegded teens. She was smart, spunky and relentless in her professional life, but was hopelessly immature in her romantic dreams of the ideal man. Poppy allowed Jason to be controlling, dominating, and selfish - not my idea of a romantic hero.

The best part of Bending the Rules there the troubled teen characters, who seemed more loyal and mature than Jason. Poppy had several close friends who were never really introduced or explained, as if this was the 2nd or 3rd book of a series.

Marisala is a great heroine

Where does Freedom's Price rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

It was a good, solid story. In the beginning. Liam's agreement to be the guardian of a 22 year old raised my feminist hackles, but I was also skeptical of Marisala, who seemed to speak & jump in with both feet before thinking. It was very hard to picture her carefully planning the attacks by the rebels she supposedly led. Her inviting a homeless couple to Liam's home shocked me. But Marisala's stock rose & rose as the book went on - she originally knew what she wanted and how to get it and expressed her emotions; I saw Liam more and more as bottled up and dysfunctional, and, really, not good enough for Marisala. The twist came when she tried to pretend & hide her feelings as Liam did as a way of life. It was a good resolution.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked how my perception of Marisala changed. It wasn't that her character developed - it was that I did!

What does Eve Bianco bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

VERY VERY VERY good reader. Thoroughly enjoyable. The voice of Marisala rang totally true.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Oh, there were many. Three in particular were: 1) The story of the pregnant woman in the cell next to Liam's. 2) The story of how they broke him in the prison. 3) Liam's column in the newspaper.

Any additional comments?

When she decided to play a role, never leading but always following, because that's what she thought Liam wanted, I was very disappointed with her for mistakenly believing she should pretend this way, hiding her real self. But I recalled being in my 20s & trying to be perfect in appearance, and I could see how this could happen - because she thought being somebody else was the only way to be with Liam. It was a bit frustrating that she packed up rather than communicating with Liam - on every other issue she was all but psychic but on this one issue she was totally off the mark. Liam became less of a prize as the book wore on. He really needed help. Have to trust he'll continue to progress with Marisala in his life.

I was disappointed with the story and not impressed with Savannah Richard's narration. Definitely not one of my favorites.
