Oh, what a tangled web....
Kelsey Cameron has spent the past four years thinking about a man she saw for only a minute. But it was a good minute. Huck Beck is getting a second chance at fulfilling a dream. And he won't do anything to mess that up. Even if every time he looks at Kelsey he desperately wants to do just that. Forced to pretend to be a married couple, Kelsey and Huck have to lie to Huck's family and friends. But in the end, are they really just lying to themselves?
Is the possibility of finding love...worth the lies?
This book contains a few fairly graphic love scenes, and the F-bomb is detonated. If it was a movie, it would be rated R.
Members Reviews:
Huck and Kelsey for the WIN
Just perfect.
Two people with something to prove to themselves more so than the agencies and family in which they work for and hold dear.
1. Mission
2. Cover
3. Catch
Yes Huck and Kelsey was in a web of lies to catch a small supplier from Canada in the U.
P.. What they got was closure from years past regrets and life lessons. Also, a partner that would be willing to build a forever with.
No more, Bad News Becks, that curse is extinguished. They are now the Crazy In Love Becks that are here for a lifetime. In Hucks case, a white lie or basket of them turned into a lifetime of truths with a tall, smart, conservative, sexy, possessiv, FBI analyst. Sorry ONS, Huck is off the market.
Mara, does the people and characters of Cooper County well. Always anew adventure and a little history of the sub-characters if you are not familiar. I truly am a fan of this series.
Not Worth Your Time
I do NOT recommend this book. While there is a plot, it is thin. The Heroine doesn't ring true to me and the entire book seems like an attempt to stay in a "Upper Peninsula is wonderful" mode. SPOILER ALERT: balance of this review will be specific.
First off, the Heroine is a "career woman", except, NO she isn't. She works for the FBI, which is portrayed as not wanting women in their work force. I have no idea if that is true, but the Heroine's response is to try to become a male-looking female. This is largely not a good idea. Having worked in a male-dominated career, the best way to do this is to BE YOURSELF, just neutralize your gender. For example, DON'T dress suggestively, act flirtatious or in any other way portray a stereotypical female. But if you are with a company where you will never advance, as this Heroine is, you LEAVE the company. Heroine refused an offer from CIA, which a career woman would have accepted.
Second, the Hero was raised by his brothers and mother because his "father" abandoned the family when he was 7 years old. As an adult, the Hero learns his mother's husband is not his biological father. From there, his part of the story diverges from the realistic. The Hero flips out and ruins his perfectly good career path. To which I say, "WHY?" Why on earth would this man care about a drunken man who abandoned him at a young age NOT being his father? It should have come as a TOTAL relief. Furthermore, apparently the idea that this man laughed because his biological father was dead ALSO devastated the Hero. Why? I'm a girl and I wouldn't even be devastated by this. Knowing that he wasn't destined by his genes to be a drunken deadbeat apparently devastated him.
