Damn overdone Accents again

Seriously, you dont need to force the accents. I am personally surprised that the multicultural extra earth colonies still have separate accents and with such a difference between each other instead of becoming an amalgamate or at least a new one with its own slang and more ... asteroid survival type language.

Worth the credit.

After buying several highly rated books and finding myself mind numbingly bored I was happy to have stumbled upon this on. I have sometimes mainstream and more often macabre or unusual tastes in books but I say give it a try. You may just find, like I did, that it was a good book

Exciting, thrilling, fast paced, great book!

Loved this book and can not wait to read more of this authors books! I really enjoyed the characters and discovering the story through the twists and turns of this page turner. I highly recommend this book. Listened to the audible version and was not disappointed by that either. Very well done.

This is a great book. The story is a bit hard to swallow in the beginning, but if you stick to it you will be pleasantly rewarded.

this was... not great. the story is rather clumsy. the characters arent to great and off kilter most the time.

evidently its possible to learn how to handle and shoot a weapon likr an expert just for holding it for a day, 6 limbs on a vertebrate is nothing special at all, and wont make biologists explode their own asses in shock and awe. the best thing to do in a survival situation full of unknown hostiles is to wander around blindly.

this book is a syfy channel b movie at best. if you have a spare credit and NOTHING looks better, or its on sale for the 5 dollar range, maybe give it a go..

The Invasive is a great read!

I loved this book. The writing was tight and the story was original. In an industry where you see so many regurgitated storylines,it's great to see that there are still some writers with fresh ideas.

If you like edge of your seat storytelling, a diverse assortment of vicious, predatory creatures, and a strong cast of characters you actually grow to care for, this book is for you. Enjoy!

Non stop excitement

Review of THE BLOOD LIVES

This initial installment of the paranormal/sci fi series IN THE BLOOD is an exciting, fast-paced, deeply emotional novella with an intriguing scientific premise. There really do exist monsters, âhaemogoblinsâ which consist of, quite literally, blood: sentient, active, almost uncontrollable blood entities. Certain individuals carry these, and when threatened or in danger, the blood monsters are aroused and injure, even kill, the threats. Of course, secretive governmental agencies are formed to study, analyse, and combat the entities. Carriers, when possible, are trained. One such is Ben, whose mother was killed by a âmonsterâ when he was very small.

The author generously provided a digital ARC, for review and book blog purpose. This review constitutes my honest opinion, voluntarily offered.

Blood everywhere...

And in spite of that, I didn't bond with Ben to my satisfaction. I found myself wanting more depth in him & the other characters. Perhaps the break-neck pace simply isn't my thing; I don't think so, but of course, it's possible. I was also distracted by typos, though they weren't heinous enough to stop me from reading. I LOVE the concept here but since I couldn't cozy up to Ben, I don't know if I'll continue the series. Curiosity may get the better of me & if it does that'll mean that Lee did his job, won't it?!?! Overall, I'd say read this & see if you think of blood in the same way. Ever. Again.

Wow. A totally different "Creature Feature." Engrossing. New heroes to protect and serve. Don't make them mad though. Consequences mean bloodshed.

Fast Paced Space War

Where does Empire in Crisis rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

I listened to the Synchronicity War, also by Dietmar Wehr, and decided to download this one as well. Luke Daniels, who also narrates the Synchronicity War, is superb as always. While Empire in Crisis is not my favorite book of all time, it is a very satisfying book. There is the potential for a lead-in to a second book, but as a stand-alone novel, I would be happy leaving it where it is. This ranks in the top 5 out of the last 30 books I've read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think my favorite character is Emperor DeChastelaine. Don't be fooled by the title of 'Emperor', DeChastelaine is not an evil tyrant, nor is he incompetent. As far as leaders go, I quite like him. What makes him very interesting to me is how he deals with incompetent space force admirals and political intrigue.

What about Luke Danielss performance did you like?

Luke Daniels is one of my favorite narrators. Period. His voices are very unique--even between different book series, a feat I find to be quite impressive.

Any additional comments?

If you're looking for a repeat of the Synchronicity War, you won't find its looping chronology here. Empire in Crisis is, in my opinion, a good space battle between humans and aliens. Plus, there is governmental intrigue and conspiracy that the humans have to overcome before winning a war. If you're not sure where to spend your next credit, this is a safe buy as it will not force to you to wait for another book, nor will it leave you bored.

A great new book and hopefully series!

The characters took a little while to flush out and the promotion from XO and Fleet Admiral a little unrealistic but overall this was a good book and an even better first in a new series!

Where does Empire in Crisis rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

I would have to say pretty high up. I am a fanboy of DAW and his other books so that makes me a little biased I suppose but this is a great story that I wish would continue.

The aliens and battles were great as usual. DAW does that really well.

Insanely imaginative!

What made the experience of listening to Ham Taylor the most enjoyable?

The narrator, the author I believe, really put his all into it. He also used sound effects which I am not usually a fan off, but they were subtle and helped compliment the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ham Taylor?

A gladiatorial battle set on an alien space ship between the hero and a sabre toothed tiger.

No. This is my first.

Where does Take the Star Road rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

Up there. I thought this was very easy to follow both on the writing and the narration side. Perfect for this format.

What other book might you compare Take the Star Road to and why?

Nathan Lowell's Quarter share as it's about someone getting their space legs and becoming a merchant. This has a bit more action, however.

Which character as performed by Bob Allen was your favorite?

Hard to say. I don't feel like the narrator really does a ton of differentiation with the character voices, but he does give a great feel for the perspective character. So probably the main character, Steve.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!

The audio version is not as good as the book, but still pretty good. The book was excellent and I still reread it every so often.

A dive into the shadows

What did you love best about The Seventh Age?

I loved that is is written for those of us who enjoy the supernatural creatures that are not fluffy and diluted for teenage consumption. That still have their dark and gritty sides.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I would give him a second chance his accents change for a few characters through out the book.

The end of the world - Gift Wrapped

The world ends and death reigns supreme. Or so things may seem. This is a dark romp through the secret societies of Chicago and the power they wield. However this isn't your Dan Brown novel. This feels like a love letter to Vampire the Masquerade. I always felt like the machinations of the world were ignoring Mike (The Protagonist) till it was too late. This is exactly what I would expect from elder powers that be. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of intrigue and action, with a healthy dollop of conspiracy.

Well, I normally am not a big audiobook fan. But, as strange as this sounds, hearing someone else, in this case James, read your own work... is a great way for an author to hear the story as if it WAS by someone else! One hell of an engaging ride.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Seventh Age?

Hands down, Mike Auburn's sarcasm. It comes across SO well in the audio format. While all these crazy things are happening all around... Mike's quips are even better in audio format than in my own brain.

What does James Patrick Cronin bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Pacing. Hands down. James brings an element of pacing to the novel that captures the mood and intent of the story and it enhances each chapter. If you were to just read each chapter, you might fly through them, or read slower than intended. James brings to life those tense moments.

Good story but the narrator was horrible

This was really good book but the guy narrating wasn't good.At times it sounded mechanical and took away from the greatness of the characters as well the story....Not sure if there's a book 2 but I won't be getting it if he's the narrator...

Quick, but good

The characters were so interesting, I almost forgot it was a monster book... that is until the end. Then it reminded me of the kind of monster I wanted to see the whole time. Guess I'll need to buy the second book.

The narration blemished the story.

As someone who is just beginning a voiceover career myself, particularly with the intention of narrating audiobooks, I am hesitant to be harsh in my criticism of others. However, in this case it cannot be helped. This performance was not good. Perhaps the most damning, though completely honest and accurate, statement I can make is that the reading stole my enjoyment of the book. Imagine watching Forrest Gump, but with Jean Claude Van Damm cast as Forrest. Yeah, it was THAT bad!

Jake Bible's Z-Burbia series is a hilarious, yet intense, read. Andrew B. Wehrlen did a fabulous job narrating those books. Between the writing and the reading I LOVE those books! Sadly, this book didn't have a chance to make that same connection for me. That said, the fault is not solely the narrator's.

This story took a little long to really develop. There was so much innuendo and deception that I couldn't invest myself in any of the characters, for fear that they would soon be removed. Also, some of the characters who stuck around were a bit annoying early on. Even with that, once the plot got moving I definitely enjoyed it. I am just certain that I would have enjoyed it more, and much earlier, if it had a better narrator.

I am hoping the next book will have a different narrator, as I will not purchase it, or anything else, read by DeMaster. Sorry, but I am just being honest.

excellent story, but terrible narration

if you like kaiju, the story is a great setup to a good kaiju story. unfortunately, it's pretty difficult to enjoy Bible's writing at times with a narrator that doesn't understand basic inflection.

Amazing story, beautifully read.

If you haven't experienced an Emma Newman book, you're missing amazingness. Get Planetfall before this one but then definitely get this one. Gut-wrenching and gorgeous and written with real talent and hunanity. Don't miss it.

Sci-fi noir sequel

Great performance of a really captivating side sequel of an unusual first novel. Personally glad we moved away from the gelatinous God and back to earth where a great story of origins unwinds within a murder mystery. The main character is complex and the plot twists all work for me. Bravo.

Absolutely no character development. Only listened to find out what happened next in the story, nothing engaging about the characters at all...

Marvelous political/qar Sci-fi

If you enjoyed Ian Douglas' Star Carrier -series, but thought it contained a little too much war and military side of things, this is your book. Focusing more on exploration of the universe, political side of space warfare, and of course aliens with their advanced technologies, Altered Starscape: Andromedan Dark offers the best story and rich universe since the Hyperion Cantos, my favourite book series. Nick Sullivan does an amazing job bringing life to many fascinating characters, and is a joy to listen to. This is a must-listen to the friends of space sci-fi!
