On the brink of a disaster that could end all human life on Earth, tech genius Robert Eisenbraun joins a team of scientists in Antarctica on a mission to Jupiter's moon Europa to mine a rare ore that can provide for Earth's long-term energy needs. But as he and the rest of the team train under the ice shelf in preparation for the long journey, trouble erupts. Before they embark, Eisenbraun finds himself the odd man out, and is put into cold sleep against his will.
When he wakes, Eisenbraun finds the ship deserted and no longer functional. He escapes to the surface of an Earth terribly changed. The plan has gone horribly wrong, but as he adapts to a hostile environment, he realizes that there is still a way to accomplish what the mission had set out to achieve. But he also discovers that he faces a new adversary of the most unlikely sort. Now his own survival, and that of the woman whose love has sustained him in his darkest hours, depends on the defeat of a technological colossus partly of his own making.
Confronting a foe that knows him almost as well as he knows himself, Eisenbraun faces the prospect of depending on resources he has reason to believe will be available on one particular night of a full moon - a night foretold by a mysterious, unseen ally to be a pivotal moment for the fate of the planet. The game has changed, and Earth's future depends on him and him alone.
The Omega Project is yet another edge-of-your-seat thriller by best-selling author Steve Alten and is sure to leave listeners looking for more.

THIS PLACE EATS SCHOOL GIRLS LIKE YOU
    FOR BREAKFAST
This is a heavy tech book, especially in the first hour. The book includes biological machines, Nazis, trans humans, genetic human experiments, solar power, two apocalypses, vanilla sway, moon mining, moon colony, Europa, killer asteroid, A.I., Antarctica and more. I really loved the first half of the book. The second half was good, but veered into psychology and the meaning of life. For the entire second half, you don't know if the main character is actually experiencing what we read or if he is just having a cryo-genic induced dream.
The main character is a boy genius and his girlfriend walked off the canvass of a Luis Royo painting (nothing wrong with that). I am not a fan of dream stuff and that with the several last minute rescues, after deciding several times to kill himself, got tiring. Some may have a problem with the politics. Religion gets blamed for all wars.
    Axtell
The narrator is something special. Between the writing and his narrating, I felt in the book and forgot I was listening. I don't know of a better compliment for a narrator.
This is not science fiction but political fiction
Worst audio book I have ever attempt to listen to. I wish I could get my money or credit back!
Inception meets The Matrix and Island of Dr Moreau
Wow, not in a good or bad sense, partly also glad that the book is over. I would best classify it as a mesh of various movies. Certainly changing direction numerous times always keeping you guessing as to where the story is headed. Some good, some bad and others just way out there.
I had the hardest time with the designated time frame that was unveiled and I also felt there was too much description of the environment.

    Title: Dead Energy
Subtitle: The Alex Cave Series, Book 1
    Author: James M Corkill
    Narrator: Paul J McSorley
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 2 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-11-16
    Publisher: James M. Corkill
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 16 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Alex Cave is leisurely cruising his sailboat in Puget Sound when a hysterical voice on an oil tanker begs for help on the radio! He sees the behemoth ship through his binoculars an instant before it is engulfed in a brilliant flash of white light, and when he responds to the mayday and arrives before the Coast Guard, he discovers the crew and 80,000 tons of crude oil have mysteriously vanished without a trace!
Alex Cave is just a geophysics teacher for a university in the town of Bozeman, Montana, USA, but he is also ex-CIA. The Director of National Security, Martin Donner, is his friend, and asks him to help the Coast Guard in solving what starts out as a small problem of stolen crude oil.
Initial thoughts are of a major oil leak, but none is found. When the bodies of the crew are found frozen to death on a mountaintop 150 miles away, Alex realizes there is more going on than just stealing oil.
Things go from bad to worse as more tankers are attacked and their crews killed. The few witnesses all claim to see a bright light and a rainbow effect surrounding the tankers, but how did it happen? The Alaska pipeline and west coast refineries are suddenly empty! Transportation of basic necessities cannot reach the cities!
Alex teams up with the supervisor for the All Alaska oil Company in Valdez Alaska, a man affectionately known as Bull by his crew, and Christa Avery, a physicist working with oil samples from the Alaska pipeline. Together they try to discover why all the oil is disappearing, and the mastermind behind the theft and murders. The only clue the trio has is a strange crystal that was found in the hold of one of the empty oil tankers. Under closer inspection, it seems the crystal is alive.
Meanwhile, people in the northwestern states are trying to survive, which has now become the one rule. The AOS, Army of Survival, initially recruits people who wish to learn the skill of survival. Now that skill is becoming a fact of life, and the army starts keeping people against their wills, and training them to become soldiers. John Everex, the new leader, is a man on a mission. He rules without compassion and kills without mercy. As one would expect, Everex and Alex's paths cross, with dire consequences for one of them.
Harold Woolley is a meek man, with a demanding wife and two teen age children. He becomes caught up in the struggle to survive, and mistakenly ends up at the AOS camp. When his lack of courage threatens his family, he tries to become the brave man needed to get them out of their desperate situation, but after being a coward his entire life, he doesn't think he can change.
Dead Energy has many different characters, and many different parts of the basic story, which all come together in the conclusion.
Each episode has one common thread tying each story into a series, but each episode is a new story, and can stand alone.

    Nothing short of phenomenal
Another young adult fiction work to join the likes of Cassandra Clare, Veronica Roth, or Suzanne Collins where the main character is a reluctant heroine. A story of a teenage girl dealing with extraordinary circumstances and the ordinary struggles of awkward teenage scenarios.
The story is very good if it were written by an experienced writer with numerous published works. But the fact that this is the very first published work of an actual teenage girl, is nothing short of phenomenal. This young author is gifted, and inspirational to other young people in their goals of becoming a writer.
After seeing the expose` on the Today Show a few months back, I was disappointed to find that, not only did my local library not have the book, but that no online nor brick n mortar book store had it for sale. I was pleased to find it on amazon, but still needed to wait for weeks for it to arrive from England.
Having read it from cover to cover, and read additional interviews from the BBC, I am very happy to have had the chance to encounter this book. If you enjoyed reading the Hunger Games series or the Divergent series, you should read this, and join the select few who have the pleasure of this story. I look forward to the sequel, which I understand is already in the works.
So much promise, so little return
    Actual rating 2.5 stars.
I was in cover envy when I first glimpsed this cover in a book haul from Benjaminoftomes, and after he rated it highly, I felt like it was a must have! But it did not live up to the hype for me. The introduction into the new world of âThe Catalystâ was abrupt. I do like how there no lengthy explanation, but it left me wanting a bit more on the mythology of this world.
The concept of twin souls is a fantastic one, but its execution left me fuddled. Maybe there should be some awareness and tension between two beings in one body? (Besides the glaringly obvious plight of Rose herself)
Rose was definitely an interesting character and a shining light in this dark novel. The duality of her condition had me eager to read on page after page. Again, if the mythology had been explored further, I may have enjoyed it even more.

    Exceptional narrator
What really brings this trilogy to life is the narration. Your never aware of a narrator trying to voice the opposite sex. Your instantly aware of which character is talking by the distinct voice the narrator uses. And some of the characters are priceless.

    Kept Me Guessing and Intrigued
The story starts out a little flat and it's hard to like the immature and often stupid main character. That doesn't last long and the story develops fully and takes surprising twists. The main character is more than redeemed. There is a lot of action, humor and an upbeat ending. Five stars.
    I'm torn over this review.
So this story is cool. I liked it a lot. I like Lex, I enjoyed the characters and I love the world that has been built.
I hate the audiobook narrator. He's actually awful. There are so many mistakes. So many odd pauses. So many awkward phrasing of simple sentences. And his droning voice does nothing to impart the high stakes in a lot of the story.
I'm loathe to buy any more in the series, which sucks because I really want to know where it goes.
    Great Book

    Great series
It's nice to see a series of novels based on the movies for Marvel, considering that they had quit releasing them when the movies come out. That was always one of the things I enjoyed. The fact that these are written for young adults means they are an easy read.

    just a darned entertaining listen
I put allot of miles on my car in a year. Sirius XM has a good variety but nothing beats a great story told well. Hours of enjoyable sci fi for the junky in me and a series that actually has winning heroes and real life drama in a world wrapped up in the multi layered anti hero that is hapless and just never seems to catch a break
#4 is another of Mr. McGinnis's winners.
I will advise starting at the series beginning. The story stands alone well, but listening I was often at a loss where participants fit in the story. If I had recently listened to how the many relationships had been formed I could have kept up with who was whom to who.
Again, begin at the beginning in the junk yard discovery.

Since Newton witnessed a bubble rising from his bathtub, mankind has sought the stars. When William III of England commissioned Capt. William Kidd to command the first expedition to Mars in the late 1600s, he proved that space travel was both possible and profitable.
Now, one century later, a plantation in a flourishing British colony on Mars is home to Arabella Ashby, a young woman who is perfectly content growing up in the untamed frontier. But days spent working on complex automata with her father or stalking her brother, Michael, with her Martian nanny is not the proper behavior of an English lady. That is something her mother plans to remedy with a move to an exotic world Arabella has never seen: London, England.
However, when events transpire that threaten her home on Mars, Arabella decides that sometimes doing the right thing is far more important than behaving as expected. She disguises herself as a boy and joins the crew of the Diana, a ship serving the Mars Trading Company, where she meets a mysterious captain who is intrigued by her knack with clockwork creations.
Now Arabella just has to weather the naval war currently raging between Britain and France, learn how to sail, and deal with a mutinous crew if she hopes to save her family remaining on Mars.
Arabella of Mars, the debut by Hugo-winning author David D. Levine, offers adventure, romance, political intrigue, and Napoleon in space!

    Been done before, predictable
Story didn't pull my interest at all. As I said in the headline, it's all been done before. Don't waste a credit. Very disappointing because I love steampunk and strong female characters. This tried to include it all and missed the mark completely.
    Delightful!
Airships, Privateers, Martians, and proper English manners... whats not to love? A friend recommended this book to me, and now I'm wholeheartedly recommending it to you!
Weakest most ridiculous story I have ever read
This would have been better as a porno novel.
The lead character is not a heroine she's a twit, and not a very smart one. She basically fails at everything she tries to do,including her main objective. The only reason the ending isn't tragic is because of fate. This was just awful. If your going to write a book about a heroine, you don't make her seem like a big crybaby, and you have to let her win every once in a while.

Now the dazzling Supernova heightens the thrills and deepens the haunting exploration of technology and humanity - and the consequences that await when the two intersect.
Once Ananke was an experimental military spacecraft. But a rogue computer virus transformed it - her - into something much more: a fully sentient artificial intelligence, with all the power of a god - and all the unstable emotions of a teenager.
Althea, the ship's engineer and the last living human aboard, nearly gave her life to save Ananke from dangerous saboteurs, forging a bond as powerful as that between mother and daughter. Now she devotes herself completely to Ananke's care. But teaching a thinking, feeling machine - perhaps the most dangerous force in the galaxy - to be human proves a monumental challenge. When Ananke decides to seek out Matthew Gale, the terrorist she regards as her father, Althea learns that some bonds are stronger than mortal minds can understand - or control.
Drawn back toward Earth by the quest, Althea and Ananke will find themselves in the thick of a violent revolution led by Matthew's sister, the charismatic leader Constance, who will stop at nothing to bring down a tyrannical surveillance state. As the currents of past decisions and present desires come into stark collision, a new and fiery future is about to be born.

Can't wait for the third book!
As with the first book, excellent character development and interpersonal portrayal. Highly recommended if you enjoyed the first book.
One criticism: This doesn't undermine the heart of the drama, which is interpersonal, but it did pull me out of the story a few times. The logistics of intelligence gathering in war aren't directly addressed. There are several references to "They say..." or "I've heard..." where the enemy is, which gives me the impression that the fleet is relying on rumor, rather than reconnaissance. Later, there's statements like, "We have reports...", but it's not clear what that means in practical terms. No explicit mention of reconnaissance or scouts for determining enemy movement.
    Lots of emotional dialog
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes and No, the last third of the story is an emotional and sometimes irrational dialog such as the main characters destruction of all the video screens in the ship because they once showed the image of someone she knew. A major part of the story is a rolling emotional dialog taking place inside the characters head, with actions based on emotional reasons rather than the more logical.

    Loved it!
I am so happy the author decided to expand on this series! The first series "After" was great! This picks up 5 years after the events of the first series. The zaps continue to evolve. They're getting smarter and more dangerous! I'm very happy to see the new series continue with Kevin Clay narrating. He does an excellent job!
    After the world of "After"
This is a fast-paced follow-up novel that takes place after Nicholson's "After" series. He always manages to bring something new to the story to keep the reader engaged. I love the characters of Rachel and DeVontay, and I'm looking forward to seeing what becomes of the relationship between the two teens. I especially want to see more of Franklin Wheeler. He fascinates me. If you end up choosing to start this book, I would recommend the "After" series first. Though I don't think its necessary in order to enjoy this series, its just neat seeing how the world is after all that happened in the prior series. I listened to the Audible audio version of the book, and I enjoyed the narration by Kevin Clay. He has a pleasant voice and good character differentiation. Overall, if you enjoy zombie books but want a twist, give this book a try.
    What's a Zaphead?
An interesting take-off on the zombie genre. Here we have intelligent mutants, which almost remind me of aliens of some sort. One of the main characters and a baby are half-mutants due to the fact that they were injured by an infected animal then treated by the mutants or Zapheads as they are called. I hate that term Zapheads, sounds so silly and juvenile. The major portion of this book involves understanding the Zapheads, where they came from, and why they are here or at least what they are up to. It appears the Zapheads manufacture a drone in the form of large birds which they control mentally and use as weapons against humans. There also exists mutant animal species resulting from the radioactive discharge due to the nuclear power stations melting down. So our survivors are looking for safe locations while avoiding or fighting Zapheads, drone-birds, and other mutant species. An interesting story although a bit long-winded at times. I already have the second book of the series, so well see how this goes. Three.point.five for the opener.
