An fast paced action Horror story.
Jake Bible, known for his various Zombie and Salvage Merc books, has something completely different here. On a ship in the Pacific, a defense contractor has a secret project under way, one that people are literally willing to kill to get their hands on. The fact that the secret project is alive and hungry should give you a clue this is not going to end well for some of the characters. When a double and then triple cross goes horrible awry, the project is released, and the other portion of the story, with Interpol agents, mobsters, card sharps and Deep cover spec ops comes together with the creature, creating some of the most creative and wild mayhem, chaos and carnage you are likely to read. Some really engaing characters help move the story along, as does the wild action.
Andrew Tell, who I was familiar with from his narration of books such as Nighblade and What Remains of Heroes, both epic fantasies, does an outstanding job with this contemporary horror story, doing a great job with reading pace, with the different characters and their various voices and accents. I will listen to any book he narrates, he's that good.
I recommend this for any fan of horror or darker sci fi. Any fans of Jake Bible's other books should really enjoy this one.
I was given a copy of this audiobook free of charge in return for an honest review from the Author, publisher or narrator through Audiobook Boom.
Fantastic! Genetic engineering horror at its best!
Truly great story. Start to finish it keeps you engaged. Characters with depth that you can connect to and
Love and hate as the story develops. A fascinating genetically engineered creature. Horror on the high seas. Gangsters, black ops, poker. Fabulous! Have enjoyed everything I've read from this author. I received this audiobook from the author narrator or publisher for free via audiobookboom in exchange for an unbiased review
A Deep Sea Terror Is On The Loose
Ben Clow, the stories protagonist is one of the unlikely heroes. He's been up against bad guys in his life as a Rounder. But he thought that he put that life behind him and now just blogs about poker. But, Ben is quickly thrown into the fire when their simple poker game on a ritzy boat (yacht) starts to go south.
Andrew Tell is quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators. His use of different voices for different people and the execution of this makes each and every story feel like it's own. But, Tell is also able to make each story flow with such ease.
This story is nuts! I wasn't sure exactly what was going to happen when I first started it, but Bible was able to write two stories that interconnected into one awesome story. I found myself sitting in my car numerous times when I was home trying to get further into the story.
The main antagonist of the story seems to be the sea creature that I will not write much about.

Island One, the U.S.'s first space colony and symbol of an American renaissance, is in trouble. Low morale, shoddy workmanship, unexplained malfunctions, and avoidable accidents have become a way of life, and nobody seems to know why. Is it the Russians? Home-grown anti-technologists? Arabs afraid of cheap solar power from space - or something even more sinister?
When the President ordered secret agent Peter Kapitz to find out what was going on, Peter's first discovery is that the Soviets are indeed involved. His second is that they are not alone. He will probably not live to make a third.

The only good book in the series
The only good book in The L5 Community Series is also obviously the one Mack Reynolds had the least to do with. Set before any of the other books in the story, it openly and frequently addresses the fact that there's just no economic justification for these kinds of space habitats. It has an actual story, and spends an entire chapter calling bull on one of Reynolds hobby horses, and his wonky, unrealistic world building. After the pie-in--the-sky Utopianism of the previous books, it's nice to read something without a missionary agenda. Something that actually has a story, and feels like a real book.
Like the word wizard the way they used it
The dialogue was not something I was used to. Like the word wizard the way they used it. The story line was good.

It was a quiet Seattle morning until the skies filled with fire: without warning, a catastrophic meteor shower caused buildings to crumble and the lights to go out. Out of the rubble, five ordinary people arose to find themselves manifesting undreamed-of abilities.
Will they be enough to do what the military cannot - stop a massive alien invasion before the entire West Coast is destroyed?

    Mixed feelings
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes, several of the characters were truly annoying (Brian, Laura the wife) and the story wold have been better without them. Also, the beginning of the book when characters are being introduced drags on a bit too long.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
It was a truly unique idea for an "alien invasion" story. Very fun! The least interesting would be some of the background on the characters. There was a lot of uninteresting stuff and some of them seemed so whiney and self pitying.
Have you listened to any of Todd Menessess other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't heard him before but I did enjoy his narration on this book. Though some of the voices were annoying, he could only voice them as they were written.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Absolutely! It was a great twist on alien invasion stories and as I was listening I was thinking what a great movie it would make. I love Super Hero movies and though the characters were not the usual type of Super Heroes it certainly was a fun alternative idea.
    Any additional comments?
I had a hard time giving this a rating. I did enjoy the story very much and liked some of the characters. However, the long introduction to the characters almost made me want to quit and do something else. I also found that much of the profanity was a bit over the top and unnecessary in some situations. The sex "scenes" were really irrelevant to the story line. There were some parts that were hard to follow like creating the "weapon" which didn't make much sense to me. I did end up enjoying it once the "action" started. Really liked the Sean character and also the individual powers that each person received.
invasion and being a Good Host
The beginning was hard to follow at first because the narrator talked very fast and seemed to never take a breathe. I liked all the characters and the fast paced story.
Earth invaded & has the most unlikely saviors
We're being invaded and have the most unlikely saviors
An alien invasion strike Seattle, while the attack is happening, five strangers will find themselves now flowing with very unlikely... powers. What can these unlikely heroes do to prevent this alien invasion?
Impact Earth: Symbiosis was narrated by Todd Menesses who does a wonderful job. It's always nice to hear a narration that I would consider a "full cast" ensemble with only one narrator. A lot of the accents were really well done and it really helped move the story along.
Another book that has superhero undertones to it. Looking at the cover of this you would have no idea (but I guess that's why you shouldn't always judge a book by its cover).
While I enjoy superheroes, especially those who basically came from nothing -- this isn't my go-to genre.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 54 mins
    Language: English

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 100 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
A gripping military science fiction adventure starring the hero of A Choice of Treasons.
As a lifer in the Imperial Navy fighting in a war that has lasted for generations, York Ballin's only hope for an honorable discharge is the grave. But what events led up to his reluctant enlistment? What spawned York's almost fanatic loyalty to his friends - and his doubts regarding the imperial uniform he once wore with such pride?
York rarely recalls his childhood, which began with a mystery and ended at age 11 when he was given a harsh choice: Join the navy or face certain death on a prison asteroid. The navy has its own code of justice, but a youngster with curiosity and grit is able to rise in the ranks...if he's given a fair shot.
A few rigorous years later, as a newly commissioned ensign, York is assigned to the hunter-killer ship The Fourth Horseman. But when an unexpected foe kills his superior officer and leaves the crew stranded in enemy territory, the young ensign must do whatever he can to save the ship - even if it means he'll be court-martialed for treason.
Of Treasons Born is a novel of the Treasons Cycle; the series was written so that it can be listened to in any order.

Excellent New Running Battle Space Combat Series
If you enjoyed the Lost Fleet military science fiction series written by John G. Hemry under the pen name Jack Campbell or Evan Currie's books or Horatio Hornblower -- you will like these. Two books in a new series: "Of Treasons Born" (prequel) and "Choice of Treasons". Embattled ship, a destination and mission, desperate, running space battles, a tough captain who came up the hard way -- the whole enchilada. The first book gives you all of the background -- then comes the 21-hour second book that is a continuous, destination-oriented space fight at its best. Enjoyed these very much. Also enjoyed the performance greatly !
This is an engaging sci fi - character profile.
    My Rating 4.5.
York Ballin was mostly raised on the streets. He was pressured by the wrong sort of friends and at age 11 he ended up with a conviction for murder. He is sentenced to a prison asteroid where he will no doubt be dead soon. He is surprised when he is confronted by naval officers who offer him a place in the space navy. It isnt really a choice.
York has to start at the bottom swabbing floors he learns they are called decks. He is smart and picks up quickly if only someone is willing to train him. He learns that there are bullies in the navy too and he ends up caught in a bad situation again. He takes the punishment and is sent to the Marines for further discipline. They figure he is a loser who will wash out but soon discover that he learns quickly and is willing to take risks for others. Bit by bit York makes friends and shows himself as more than a loser.
He is sent to Naval Academy where he bunks with three others of totally different backgrounds. One comes for power, one from money and one from influence. They realize that York is the one from experience. There are superiors who feel that street kids have no business in the Academy they arent smart enough to learn and not worthy of the training. These men make trouble for York but fortunately there are others who see the potential for leadership in York and want him to succeed.
I found this story very engaging.

It must have been around ten minutes after Vic died that he first heard the voices but he didn't know what they were. Not who they were, but what they were. It wouldn't be long before he remembered what voices were and what made them. He would know what everything was in fact, as his mind slowly built a picture of a universe he once existed in. In that universe were things, and one of those things had been Vic Jones. If he had been in possession of any conscious thought five minutes ago he would have been quite pleased with himself. The suicide had gone exactly as planned and he had no reason to believe everything else wouldn't. He had left clear instructions for his entire body to be placed in cryogenic suspension until such time as a cure existed for the cancer that was about to ravage his body. That is until he actually did have conscious thought.
One of his first conscious thoughts was "Something must have gone wrong, very wrong indeed."

    Excellent read
What did you love best about Life on Mars?
Not entirely what I expected from the title but totally what I expected from the author. Twists, turns & many interesting Bowie references? I was totally absorbed and Don Warrick's narration only serve to compliment this extremely clever story.
    Which scene was your favorite?
A scene near the end of which made me cry. Read it and see!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    I cried at the end....
    Any additional comments?
    A must read
    Lived up to the hype
Where does Life on Mars rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
By far the best, because its my second and it would be unfair to say what the first one was.
What other book might you compare Life on Mars to, and why?
Its definitely in the realm of the Arthur C Clarke and such like as a great science fiction tales. Its one of those stories thats based on true science which adds an extra element
What does Don Warrick bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
I have read the book and enjoyed it immensely but I agree Don Warwick was an excellent choice for narration. His tone and voice might not suit certain titles I'm sure but he did an excellent job of keeping me gripped, especially as I wasn't new to the story.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I love the tagline it has... Immortality or Humanity but I think mine would be.Looper meets Jonnie Darko
    Any additional comments?
I held off the book for a while after hearing so much about it on various blogs etc and finally gave in as I don't get much time to read on paper. The audible version is just perfect for me and I am really enjoying both the app and the book.As for the rumours going round about the books history I expect people just love a mystery but the connection is obvious. Take it for what it is, a great sci fi dystopian novel with a real positive feel.
Completely immersed from the first sentence.
What made the experience of listening to Life on Mars the most enjoyable?
I loved this book. I have it on paper and thoroughly enjoyed both. I was immersed in the world of 2515 and my only criticism is that for a sci-fi book it was relatively short unless it turns out to be book 1 of a series.
The ending is a real tearjerker but it's not a love story is it?. Looking forward to the stage show ,it sounds incredible.

    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Five years have passed, and the story begins in a dark period within the Star Watch saga. Captain Jason Reynolds, Omni of the US Space Fleet, along with his now 16-year-old daughter, Mollie, are en route to the Dacci System to attend the memorial service for none other than Boomer, his other daughter. Information on her death had been sketchy at best - an attack by the Sahhrain on Harpaign, during the Goldwon graduation trials. It had been a massacre. The Blues have since declared war on the Sahhrain, and there is a good chance the US Fleet and the Alliance will be dragged into the fray as well.
Once on the planet Harpaign, Jason conducts a preliminary investigation - one that soon reveals things are not what they seem. Information is being withheld and clues indicate there is a slim possibility that Boomer did not die on the sandy dunes battlefield of Capital City after all - setting in motion the most riveting, non-stop action Star Watch novel yet. So grab ahold of your multi-guns and affix your enhancement shields, because this is going to be one hell of a wild, rollercoaster ride!

Mark Wayne McGinnis had better type fast!
With the last word of Boomer echoing thru my headset, I was staring blankly at my iPad yelling"NO! It can't end yet!" I felt cheated. I was the victim of a well scripted, enthralling book that ended in one of the cleverest cliff hangers I've encountered in 65 years of reading! From the opening word I was bound by the excellent performance of L. J. Ganser but now I was definitely in a fine pique with McGinnis and demanding he compose quickly, type faster, please all his editors, and get the next book out yesterday! Absolutely one of the best books of the series!
    Whats Next
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Great books, not sure about the ending, will there be a book four. It would appear the Mark left himself open for either a sequel or one more book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Boomer?
When she finally shuts up and goes into action. Very wordy girl.
What does L.J. Ganser bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
He is a great narrator. you can easily identify who is talking by his superb accents .
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
After listening to the junkyard series and this one I find this one a bit monotonous. Kind of never ending to get to a strange end.
    Any additional comments?
Love the series, hoping for more of these same folks, great narrator . Very good author.

    Title: Disc
    Subtitle: Vaz Series #3
    Author: Laurence E. Dahners
    Narrator: Stephen R. Thorne
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 46 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-05-16
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 77 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Disc picks up right after Vaz and Tiona's invention of an apparently reactionless drive in Tiona. Tiona and her brother, Dante, want to license the rights to the new thrusters to big aircraft and car companies, using the money from the licenses to develop a private space industry. Vaz, their scientifically brilliant but socially inept father, has little interest in such a project but is happy to have them run with it. So they set out to convince doubtful major corporations that thrusters will change the world as we know it. Getting these companies to join the technological revolution requires everything from the massaging of egos to slapping the uncomprehending in the face with the new capabilities. At the same time, they are trying to develop their own space program in the face of some resistance from NASA.
Then, just when things seem to be going well, North Korea kidnaps Vaz and Tiona. They want to force them to develop the new technology for the People's Democratic Republic, so it can forge ahead of its enemies scientifically. By providing them with all the equipment they ask for and then threatening one member of this father-daughter scientific team if the other doesn't work, they assume they can force the Gettnors to redevelop the thruster technology for the benefit of the People's Democratic Republic. That assumption is a serious mistake, because Vaz is really good at turning equipment into weapons.

    Fun story
The whole Vaz story (three books so far) is very entertaining. Hope there is more coming.
Found it! A series worth your time.
    Any additional comments?
If you are like me and an avid consumer of SciFi, then you are always on the lookout for a great new read. My advice, pick up this series! It has, a quirky main character, visionary speculative science and tops it off with the bad guy getting it in the end. All of that is balanced with a great performance. When you finish off the series, you will want more from this author...
Great read and a good conclusion to the tale.
The trilogy is a fine story with action in each book. The characters are well rounded and interesting. The story takes you along in such a way that it is hard to stop. Disc can stand alone but is the culmination of fun read. Dr Dahners is not a electronics expert so forgive him his errors and enjoy the tale.

    Definitely Original!
I found the story fascinating, but not easy to read I really had to stretch my imagination in order to go along with a community of sentient dinosaurs.
I had trouble thinking about how their bodies worked, how their furniture was shaped, how their buildings looked, what their clothes covered but those difficulties aside, the story was great and Im in for more instalments!
    Science versus Religion anyone?
First - the narrator did a fantastic job with the multiple characters. Not much more to say, other than I did not spend one moment lamenting how awful the marrator was, which oftentimes takes away from the story. No worries here!
Second - the story ... well it is kind of like Aesop's Fables where we have animal characters painting a picture that should be so obvious, that sometimes we have to look at in a different context to appreciate or learn from it. Such as we have here with a young brilliant mind using facts to try and help save his people when religion is damning them not to move forward in science and as a species. Living on a planet doomed for destruction, our hero pays a heavy price to help save their world.
A great book with a great performance.
Would you consider the audio edition of Far-Seer to be better than the print version?
Well, it's unabridged, so I'd say "no". Just as good, mind you - just a different experience than reading it to one's self.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Far-Seer?
Afsan's commitment to rational scientific inquiry in the face of willful ignorance was quite compelling overall. I wish more humans held his principles!
Which character as performed by Oliver Wyman was your favorite?
Easily Afsan - he is the protagonist, after all; and gets most of the attention in the book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. This is one point where I might prefer the print edition, as I can read more quickly than I could listen to the audio version!
    Any additional comments?
Sawyer is a great author - seek out his other books! You won't be disappointed.
    Unexpectedly bad
    What disappointed you about Far-Seer?
I really like most of R.J Sawyer's work. This book is a teen lizard 'coming-of-age' story with the unlikely twist of the lizard developing a complete astrophysical model of his solar system from scratch. Confusing? - yes. Unbelievable? - Yes. Thought provoking? - nope.
Have you listened to any of Oliver Wymans other performances before? How does this one compare?
Really have to admire the narrator's handling of the unpronounceable names and customs of the race of lizard people. Glad I didn't have to read it.

why did you change the narrator????
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book as it is part 4 of a series, but the new narrator is horrible... there are huge pauses between the chapters, i swear i have heard him sigh several times between the chapters, he pronounced the letter "P" in Pterodactyl......
How could the performance have been better?
    better narrator.
Very entertaining story but terrible narration
What did you love best about Mercury Revolts?
The plot, quirky sense of humor and utterly entertaining characters made this a great listen.
Would you be willing to try another one of Joel Bezaires performances?
Absolutely not. Mr. Bezaire had best look up how to pronounce words before he attempts to narrate again. Within the first 30 minutes, I heard at least 4 mispronunciations, which pulled me out of the story and snapped me back to reality. This continued throughout the story, reminding me to write this review each time.
    Any additional comments?
Also truly annoying was the poor production. There were distractingly long gaps between chapters that, invariably, made me check to ensure my phone hadn't paused. Additionally, sometimes in those long pauses, I could hear the narrator sigh (in which case I didn't have to check if my phone was paused at least). Someone scrimped on production and narration in this audiobook.
I really want to like it
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator, there are times when he's not bad, but there are also times when I skipped whole chapters because I didn't want to hear the way he voiced certain characters.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Joel Bezaire?
Kevin Stillwell would be my first choice. Roger Wayne or Nick Podehl would also be good.
    Stories no longer interesting
Wish there was more then the same old sitcom style story. It has potential but is t completely there.

Tiona picks up six years after the end of Vaz.
Tiona, Vaz's daughter, is starting grad school in physics, has a "bad boy" musician boyfriend, and does her own strange variety of charity work at a homeless shelter. Her professor has her start work on a project to try to achieve high-temperature superconduction by doping the graphene membranes her lab partner has figured out how to precipitate. Oddly, her experiments are plagued by bizarre movements in the membranes when she applies current to them.
When she mentions the movements to Vaz, he soon determines that her "problem" represents a physics breakthrough that could result in the production of a reactionless drive capable of lifting a craft into space.

    Better and better
Liked Daz. Tiona is better. Wonderful depiction of a man on the spectrum and his family. Tiona character is sufficiently complex to hold your interest. overall good science... okay, maybe a little far out but it is science fiction isn't it? Also the plot is satisfying for those of us who like morality tales.
